Hi all!
I would like to know if anyone has interest in developing a camera app for the Defy that works with the volume keys.
The purpose of this is that we can take pictures underwater
There seems to be an app on the market, but i've tried it and it doesnt work (it does not save pictures)
Waiting for a reply...Greets!
As the Defy would take damage, if you are going too deep(I thing 1-2meters are the maximum) this would'nt be very usable.

Actually it would, for a phone that can shoot underwater that is. I made over 40 videos already with me and my friends at my local swimming pool, and some pictures wouldn't have hurt. You know, for the fun of it (the only purpuse i see in this phone).
There is an app for us. Just go to android market and search Defy Photo Lite
Or you can just use button remapper, you can use the volume up key for camera. Works on my Defy with 2.3.4
If u are on cm7 or anyother custom rom(not all)
U have a option to use search key to use as cam button...
Its in cm donno abt other roms...

Touchscreen won't work underwater.
yup, cm7 has options for using vol up, vol down and even power (tho wen i use that i always turn off lolz) for capturing photos
Before I got my arc, I had an LG Optimus Seven and with it it was possible to take photos, when the device was locked (screen off).
It was easier to take pictures when I had dirty hands or wearing bandages...
I find it ugly to unlock the device to take photos...!
Hope someone can help or write an tool for this...
Thanks in advance!

hello--i made the exact same move (from optimus 7).
i think the locked mode to camera is a wp7 feature and not available to andriod w/o hacks.
I'd love to be able to take pics, without unlocking the phone. Maybe someone can make an app that opens the camera when long-pressing the camera button and then when you push the back button or turn off the phone, it would go back to being locked. Hope this is possible.

Widgetlocker lockscreen. It allows you to make a second lock to whatever you want (so photo if you want )

The button is so small and hard to press, I do not think anyone can experience this...
On my old phone it did not happen either.
The button has also 2 pressure points, to take first the focus and than the picture.
Custom Rom developers grant me this wish!

No clues here brought me to change the arc with the galaxy2.
When I have an phone with a shutter, which is only useful, when in the camera apply and unlocked, I don't really need this anymore.
Sony, you had your chance after the first xperia and you miss it!
The G2 has a lot more power, a Frontcam, much internal storage (apps2sd and then the sd is broken?!) And so on...
With the G2 its possible to activate the camera with the homebutton long pressed and than take photos with the power button.
I thought someone can program this too for the arc, but nobody here seems to be interested in using that small 2 presszones shutterbutton wisely...
That was the reason for me to buy the arc...
All new androids had no camerabuttons!
What was yours?

Or do they trick and blend you like me?

I have searched.
Anyway, I am just looking for a camera app that has touch to focus. I can't seem to find one on the market. Anything will work really, as long as it doesn't require root or anything in that matter. Is there one?
look on the market for xperia play camera mod, lets you use the L button for focus and R button for taking a picture.
I have that, not exactly what I'm looking for. I want to be able to touch the area I want to be focused. Thanks though

I'd love that option too. My dad's xperia neo can do that, why the hell the play wont?
It's such a nice option and gives a lot more flexibility to compose better pictures.
I know right?
I'll have to keep looking around..
Anyone else?
Please post when/if you find one. I've not encountered one yet and i've tried quite a few camera apps from Market.
Regards Dousan...
Try fast burst camera. There's an icon in app where you have to tap and do manual focusing first before shooting.. Good for sports shots too, this is what i'm using to capture some skateboard tricks of my friends..
I haven't given up yet...still looking.
EDIT: I found one! It's called Camera360 Ultimate(I think the free version will work too).
To enable the Touch to Focus:
Press the settings(the gear) in the upper right hand corner>Favorite Settings Tab>In the first drop down box, select "Press to focus, and click shooting button..."

Just want to make sure, it will focus where you touch right? Because otherwise it'll just be like the [amazing] app that focus with L and shoots with R, which is easier to handle.

So, now that the WildChild Sense is 99.9% finished (look for it soon) I promise to give this some attention.
Off the top of my head, it seems trivial to remap the VolUp key to be a global Camera Shutter key (if anyone's desperate for this, I can release it in about 5 mins!) but I have the feeling that we all want the VolUp key to release the shutter only from within the Camera app itself. That will require some fancy footwork. I've yet to see it done for a Sense 2.1 ROM so... no promises, but I will take a look at it shortly.
Thank you, all, for voicing your request.
Enjoy the weekend,

Hi, I can give U a temporary solution.
Download this software
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7x58xb2orf1n1s/BR0.2.4.1.apk
Install it.
Remap the keys as you like (you can only remap volume up and volume down shown as Media next and media previous in the soft).
U just need to know what state means. 3 states are there, Wake, Wake_dropped & none. For camera button I'd prescribe U should select NONE.
Wake = Means they will work even when screenlock is on
Wake Dropped = Means will work only when screenlock is off
You can alternatively do the same by editing /system/usr/keylayout/marvel-keypad.kl
Same process but in that case u have to do it manually. Just a little more time consuming. And revert back is a click away in that software(check >Menu>Settings). or in the second process delete marvel-keypad.kl and rename marvel-keypad.kl.bak as marvel-keypad.kl!!!

I didn't download the s/w, but if it behaves the way you say, then that won't quite work. For starters, I need to map volume to more than just WAKE or MEDIA (it has to be CAMERA). If your s/w can't do that, then I can just do it by hand (very easy). The problem, as I described earlier, is that it will be a GLOBAL change. Nobody wants that. The goal is to get Vol+Up to Shutter only from within the camera apk.
Second, your description of WAKE vs. WAKE_DROPPED isn't entirely accurate. It has nothing to do with screen on/off. It has to do with whether or not the h/w button function will be passed along to the app after the WAKE call. (WAKE sends the h/w call to the app, but WAKE_DROP does not).
Anyway, gimme another couple of days and I'll start working on this. Sorry about the delay.
Just a little teaser...
I'm able to get the HTC camera app to take a picture with the Volume rocker... but I don't like it.
I must have broken something else in the process because I (sometimes) get visual artefacts on the bottom of the picture (green bars). Also, the layout looks a bit wonky but still functional.
And finally, it's unpredictable when the camera will zoom and when it will actually take a snapshot when the vol keys are pressed. It seems like a long press will zoom and a short press will release the shutter (which is what i wanted) but it doesn't always work that way.
Now here's the real issue. I always thought that a h/w shutter button would be better than tapping the screen. But, after hacking around with it, it turns out that tapping the screen generated less shake for me! Try it yourself. If you hold your phone steady and press the Vol Up button, for me, there is a very slight movement on the camera. But if I'm holding the phone the same way (by all 4 corners) and then use the tip of my index finger to tap the shutter icon, I get practically no motion == clearer shot. (Maybe that's just me!)
In any case, I'm quite happy with the touchscreen shutter (and I'm busy as hell) so I'm not really driven to complete this project. That being said, I will glady spend a few more days on it and then release whatever I have for some other keener, smarter folks to complete.
Thanks dude..
We'll appreciate what ever release you'll give us..
A small motivation..
I was trying to take a pic of me and my gf yesterday..
It just impossible with the touch shutter..
But in the other hand.. Why ruin the view with my ugly face
It'll be fine if you simply disable the volume zoom function. Its digital zoom anyways, so we can always crop the pic later. So you can maybe map volume down to re-focus & volume up to click!

Hi all
Tigger U r the boss and I m just a noob. I hardly know anything about android.
Anyways, here is another temporary solution... Hope U like it or hope U not But i'm using it currently so ill just post that, glad if it help anyone.
Download camera360 and this S/W
The camera is better than stock I think. Use the longpress camera key shortcut as any volume control software (I use hide it pro). And long press search key as the Aneq Equalizer free so that U can switch equalizer when u listening to music. I use vol up as next track and vol down as camera. works pretty well for me. Vol up press after remap is also used to change radio stations.. I m having good fun.:good:
Just got this Galaxy, amazing phone and whatnot, and installed wicked rom.
Tried all three camera's (GE, stock, moto) and none seem to auto focus right before a snapshot. It only auto focuses while the camera is active not right before taking it its own and this causes me to take blurry pictures (I have horrible steady hands). Basically it focuses only before I click the snap button I want it to do it automatically after I click it.
My old E4GT however does it and it is one thing I loved about it. It would take a second to capture the picture but it would take it in perfect focus because it would automatically detect it right before the shot after I click the snap button.
Any ideas on how I can add that feature to this phone?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Mine auto focus after I hit the "snap" button. I'm on Infamous S4 V4 ROM so I can't speak for Wicked. It shouldn't be any different IMO. Maybe play around with the settings.
I just hold on to the snap button for about a second and that focuses it really good, and that takes really good quality picture.
The camera on the s4 is not as quick to take sharp pictures as my note 2 other s3. I've just learned to tap the screen to focus first before taking a pic. Or I just tap n hold on the screen for a few seconds and once I let go it takes a pic automatically

I'll try that ROM because this is really irritating how my S2 takes better pictures than my S4.
And even stock rom auto focus before you hit the snap not after which is really weird.

I believe I've noticed that if you hold the camera directed towards the focus of your shot for say, 5 to 7 seconds, although delayed, it will adjust by auto-focusing SLIGHTLY. Not as good as just tap on the area of the screen that you want focused.

He is saying he wants it to re-focus AFTER the shutter button is pressed before it actually captures the photo. So the process would go like this:
1. Camera opens
2. Point at subject
3. Auto focus on subject to frame the shot
4. Press shutter button
5. Re-focus
6. Capture image
Plenty of cameras out there do this, and as pointed out, ours do it when the flash is on. They will vary the amount of light from the flash and lens focus simultaneously to capture the best picture quality.
I don't see why it doesn't do this either, my old HTC did the re-focus after the shutter button thing and you get much more clear photos. I sometimes have to try a couple times doing close up shots of things like text on identification tags (so I don't have to write numbers down) with my phone myself, and I have "normal" steadiness hands.

Okay, you want it to focus once, then after its already focused, focus again? Really? Thats kind of defeating the point. You already have focus on the subject why would you need focus on it again? That makes taking pictures much longer a process. However, if it doesn't have focus already, and you press the shutter button, then it takes focus again. But i have no issues taking crystal clear pics unless i accidentally move while its snapping the pic. But the way it focuses now is normal and how it should be. Focusing twice is really pointless..
The OP was asking, not me, and he said he has shaky hands which is why he misses this feature. It only takes a fraction of a second for the camera to do anyway. A lot of phone cameras do this already and you don't notice it. Heck, most hand held digital cameras focus before capturing the image AFTER you press the shutter button.

Lol i wasn't trying to point fingers or anything lol. I am just extremely confused, if my phone doesn't have focus and i press the shutter button, it focuses then takes the pic. but if it does auto focus before i press the shutter button, and i move then immediately press the shutter button, it will refocus.. so i am extremely confused as to what the OP wants..
isn't this marketed as a "feature" called zero shutter lag? I use procapture the majority of the time and it focuses after clicking the shutter.
