I have a sprint epic that is on a different service. My problem is its running 2.1. I would like to get it up to 2.2 if possible. or is it safe to one click root?
I do not wanna screw up my service.
(Not sure if i can mention the service its on because some forums don't allow it)
Roms generally don't affect service, unless you flash the wrong modem. 2 things: look at syndicate rom frozen 1.1.0 in the development section and learn how odin works then you will be a much happier epic user. Whatever you do GET OFF 2.1 !!!!

so i can pretty much do the one click root and just dont mess with the modem by flashing anything different and it should be safe to flash those rom?
Mines on boost... you can change the modem np.. and the rom, they don't affect most service settings except mms settings. For tha I recommend apn back up and restore from the market

Mine is on Boost.
I've flashed from GB to ICS and every ROM in between.
You're good. The Boost settings stick between ROMs.

When you do flash just make sure that your MMS settings are unchanged. I have found that when flashing GB and ICS roms that MMS settings change back to default - at least for me it did.
Thank you all very much

Im on boost as well. Much cheaper
Sent from my "Other Phone" using Tapatalk Premium Application.
You should be fine flashing between ROMS.
Worse case, you will loose MMS, but thats a simple fix.
Download "MSL Reader" in the playstore
Dial the usual ##DATA#, select edit and enter your MSL, and tap Advanced, then scroll down to "MMSC URL" and tap it.
Enter:http:// followed by mm.myboostmobile.com, click OK and your MMS is done.
If you happen to wipe out your network settings, just do a profile update, and you should be good to go.
And always remember to do a backup before changing anything.

You can port it over before leaving sprint. But if you cut off your sprint account prior to porting the number its almost impossible to get it again.... Just sign up a phone on Boost and tell Boost that you want to port your existing number and they will know exactly what you mean. Then cutoff your Sprint account...
And yes, there is a guide in this section on how to flash your phone over to Boost mobile. You will need to purchase a "donor" phone to do it. Read the thread for more details.

So boost picked up the e4gt? Will there be some kinda flashable zip? Or do we have to go through that cdma software. Copy this, push that
I switched from Sprint to Boost. Bought my donor phone off ebay but really didn't need to since the local store I went to when I flashed had plenty of donor's. Once your e4gt is flashed you can load any rom and your settings will stick, except mms as noted in posts above. As always, be careful of what and how you wipe to avoid emmc brick. You can find a modded no data wipe that will preserve your data when moving from rom to rom. Right now I'm rocking the ICS build FG31 from manu. Solid everything and made for Boost. The great thing is you can play around and see which one fits your tastes. Enjoy!

So I'm gonna have to cancel my sprint account an go to boost. I seen a tutorial on how to flash the epic to boost and I guess if I follow the steps ill figure my way thru, but I have just one question. If I flashed to boost mobile will I still be able to flash any rom I want? I understand I may not be able to switch modems, but at least will I still be able to use any ROM and kernel?

Yes you will be able to flash any ROM/kernel that works with the Epic. You should be able to use the NS4G modem as well. You will NOT get 4G service unless you use a 4G capable "donor" and move the WiMax info over as well.
The only "catch" is that it's always best to start with a stock ROM, make sure everything is working properly (calls, text, data, etc) and then root the phone for modding.

I bought my phone already flashed to Verizon prepaid. It is currently on ICS 4.0.4 rooted stock build FH13. The guy who flashed it sold it to me and told me to never update it cuz it could destroy the flash. Is this true? Also, hot spot is working and i wouldn't want to lose that if i were to update. So should i just disable OTA update notifications with FOTAkill.apk and stay on 4.0.4?
When you update just change the APN for MMS. The flash should stay regardless of the ROM on the phone. Be sure to do a nandroid first. Also someone who has done a flash to another carrier can please chime in

DO NOT UPGRADE! If you're on PagePlus, the system WILL NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR PHONE. The place you bought it will charge you to re-flash it back to 4.0.4.
Just curious but how will flashing a new ROM in Odin or cwm make the system not recognize the phone? From what I can tell the "flash" was using the numbers from a donor phone. All the info used in the flash except the APN would all still be there after a new ROM flash. Can you not factory reset the phone after a flash to page plus as well? I would like to know what your info is. Because this is the first I have heard it.

Ok it looks like someone is saying it will be safe to update and someone else is saying that it is NOT safe to update. I cannot afford to lose the flash as I do not have access to a computer so I can't take the chance unless someone can absolutely positively for sure tell me that I will not lose my Verizon Prepaid flash.
If the Epic 4g Touch was made for Verizon I wouldnt be worried but being that its originally a Sprint phone I am having doubts. Isn't the OTA update designed for the Sprint Epic 4g Touch? If I do end up letting the OTA update install what version will I end up being on?

Well the update depends on which brand epic touch your on. (Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Boost) it will update you too jellybean either way just your modem will be different. I have a sprint brand.
Ya it is a pain to get MMS to work threw touchwiz without a 3rd party app of some sorts. I find it pretty easy on CM builds. I normally just ditch MMS and send the pic threw gmail cuz its less of a headache. But sure you can send me a screenshot of the settings. I'm willing to help as much as I can.

But i might if someone were to guarantee i wont lose root or flash AND i will still have wifi tethering capability. Im gonna do some research on the cm10.1 rom. Yea id appreciate it if you could help me out tomorrow. Thanks again man. Btw, does you're phone go into airplane mode every now n then? Mine does for about ten seconds then comes back on. It'll happen like maybe five times a day. Was wondering if that's normal. If not, is it something cm10.1 could fix?
Its not normal. There was a bunch of bugs in the ROM you are on. Being on that build though because its rooted you can use mobile Odin. To get the modem you would need to flash that in cwm though.

Yup patroa is correct. ICS builds for the epic touch were horrible. (In My Opinion) I wish I could give you a 100% guarantee that nothing could go wrong but there is always a small slight chance.
No its not normal for airplane mode to pop on from time to time.
I rooted and used mobile Odin to install a cwm and flashed a cm10.1 build all without a volume down button (can't easily get into download mode or at all) I was able to do it from a ICS build. The same build you are on.

Just follow directions to the letter. Almost all if not all issues in flashing ROMs are from not following directions close enough. You are already rooted so get mobile Odin from play store or here on xda download el26 or el29 kernel from the kernel repository DL the tar file flash in mobile Odin boot into recovery make backup wipe and flash the ROM of your choosing. There is a ton of awesome ones out there

Flashing Instructions:
This will NOT flash a modem. If you are coming from stock MD7, you will keep MD7. Same goes for whatever baseband you have right now!
1. Download zip to your sdcard
2. Reboot into CWM, TWRP, or other compatible recovery(I used CWM 6.0.3.1 Touch)
3. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot
6. Profit

I do not claim to be the expert on anything, especially development issues. If you notice issues, please let me know. And if you have a solution to one of the issues I've found, please, by all means, post it and you'll get the credit. Enjoy
Note: It seems when rebuilding this to fix the issues above, I've lost the "rising orange Bs" boot animation. There's still boot-up sound, and the blue Samsung animation, but no Boost-specific. If you want it, you can get it from the previous build If I get time, I'll add it back in manually, but frankly, I like not having it there, it seems to boot a little faster

Actually, it'll work just fine. It'll just have Boost signature and mmsc url. Just like Boost and VM users have to change mmsc url, you would have to as well, I think. I say that, because if you check mmsc urlv on this rom, it actually reads "not set." I would be interested to see if mms would send and receive on other carriers with it saying "not set."
