Hi guys, I've got a few questions regarding flashing a radio which I could not seem to find answers about in the forum. I've noticed quite a drastic drop in signal strength in my phone after the latest cyanogenmod 7 update and my GPS stopped working too. So here I go
1) Does my country and carrier affect the effects of flashing a new radio? (I'm from singapore and using Singtel BTW)
2) Will doing a nandroid backup and restoring undo the flashing of radio in case something goes wrong?
3) Does the radio also affect Wifi-tether? Cos it stopped working too (It keeps saying error), so if it I flash a new radio will it be fixed? if not can anyone tell me a solution to this tether problem?
Thanks for reading
1) As long as you are using an HTC Wildfire A3333 GSM device, you should be good to go. You can check your existing radio version under Settings > About Phone > Baseband Version, and compare it to the one's available, just to cross check.
2) No. Nandroid's do not touch the radio
3) It may, although I am not too sure of this. It may be something else that is causing the issue, but, your GPS issue will definitely be fixed after reflashing the radio.

Another radio question, I'm also trying to download the latest radio from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Wildfire:_Support_Downloads to solve GPS issues using CWM recovery 5.0.2.0 and the error is
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the CWM 3.0 GB-based recovery.

Flash this attachment in CWM5.0.2.0, it will give you temporary CWM 2.5.0.7, then flash the radio as normal.

Thanks so much! The CWM should reset to 5.x after the radio flash right?
Yes, once you reboot, you will regain 5.0.2.0. The 2.5.0.7 version in this case is temporary, and is called "Fake Flash"
How do i confirm that my wildfire is "HTC Wildfire A3333 GSM device" or this is the model everyone gets?
Check under the battery where the device IMEI and serial are printed. The model is printed on the first line there.

Thanks for the help, got into CWM 2.5 and flashed the ZIP, it said install successful reboot to complete, so I did, but checking "about phone" shows the basband as 3.35.20.10 still, instead of the 3.35.15.31 which I tried to flash...any ideas?
Ok, I've flashed a new radio and the GPS is working now (but I doubt it was even spoilt in the first place since the icon only showed up when I'm at the Maps app) but the Wifi tether isn't, is there any fix for this or should I start a new thread cos I couldn't find a solution to this on the forum too

So I'm currently running Senseless revolution 2.0 ROM on my incredible. I'm looking to try out the CM7 nightlies and I looked in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916881 and it says "Third, make sure you have updated HBOOT (.92), radio images (2.15 series). The newer seem to be working much better." Are both of those necessary to use CM7? How would I go about doing this with my current rom installed? Would I simply put everything on the root of my SD card, boot into CWM, backup my current ROM, install HBOOT, the radio and then the ROM all at once? What would be the correct way of doing this exactly.... Thanks!

cm7 has worked for some without upgrading hboot or radio......but.......if you have any issues with things not working, the first thing that will be suggested is updating hboot and radio. you can flash the rom and see if works for you or not, then decide if you need to update hboot / radio. the links to get the latest of both hboot and radio are in the cm7 thread in the dev section. you need to to one at a time.....I would do hboot first......reboot and then update the radio, if needed.

ok so hboot and the raido update will install from boot loader and not recovery. if you are running revolution 2.0 Im pretty sure you have the updated radio. but to check go to settings -> about phone -> and it should tell you under " Baseband version"
for hboot. you will need to download it from here http://dougpiston.com/?p=44 then check the M5D sum because if this is corrupt then your phone will be toast.

Same way you would hBOOT. Download the radio zip. Place it on the root of your SD card. Check the m5d sum. Astro file manager can do this for you. Then turn off the phone turn it on while holding volume down. And it should pick it up and ask you to update. But please make sure you check m5d. If the file is corrupt in any way and you try and flash it will brick the phone. And nandroid will not help.

since i am having some wifi connection issues i was thinking of flashing the latest which is 5.17.05.23 at adams thread.
my qn is can i just flash the zip file over it and become 32.44.00.32U_5.17.05.23? i see some having 32.54 etc..
pls advice.
Thanks
If you are not s-off or flashed custom hboot, go to recovery, wipe dalvik cache + cache, flash as zip and reboot.
DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE WHILE FLASHING RADIO!!! If there something goes wrong, your phone will be bricked.

If you flash latest version and works correctly, you will have 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23.
And use the thanks button, do not say it.
Also have a look at your router and maybe consider changing the channel?
I have read several posts advising channel 11 or above

It's only recommend to do this and as far as i know only for aosp roms. For sense roms you do not need to flash any ril after flashing radio.
After searching the threads on the forum a lot refer to this post here on how to flash a new radio. However, I'm sure I read somewhere that this method might now be outdated and a new radio can be simply flashed direct from the SD Card on the phone. Is this correct? If so, is it flashed in the same way as a new ROM?
Yes you can just install the zip like a rom. Please don't touch,move,... the device while the rom is installed. Let it on the table,... until it's rebootet. Otherwise it could be that something works not like it should be.
you can flash a new radio from the SC card just like a ROM but ONLY if you have an HBOOT with a /cache of more than 30MB. If it's smaller than that, attempting it this way will brick your phone. If you've never modified your HBOOT, which I'm guessing you haven't, then you will be fine flashing from the SD card.
If your HBOOT had been changed and the /cache is too small, like on the Oxygen or CM7 ones, then you must do it through fastboot.

How do I check my HBOOT Cache?
EDIT: My HBOOT version is 0.93.0001
If you've s-off'd your Desire using the alpharav.nl software and then flashed a new partition table, that's how you alter the /cache size. It doesn't sound like you've done that yet so you're stock /cache will be fine to flash from the SD card.
If you've s-off'd your can use AndroidFlasher to flash new radio at any time.
10 seconds and you have new radio!

You won't brick your phone, it just won't install. I had the CM7 HBOOT and tried flashign radio through recovery and it was just a failed installation (so i S-OFF'd).
Ok, so now I've S-Off'd my Desire the process appears to have changed the HBoot version to a much later number than before. It now shows HBOOT 6.93.1002 where before it was 0.75.0000. Will this have changed my cache? I'm worried now about flashing the new radio in case the cache size has changed. Where can I check the cache size?
EDIT: No need for me to check the cache size because I successfully flashed the latest radio now. I used AndroidFlasher, which was very simple to use. Thanks for all the advice
If I want to revert back to my previous radio (basically if I see no difference or worse performance with the latest radio) is the process as simple as just reflashing or is there something else I would have to do to "downgrade" the radio?
Should be the same as upgrading to new one.

it will be the same as upgrading it.. after all all you're doing is flashing some software on the phone, but there would be no point in going back to the older version once you've upgraded...

Did you check the md5 checksum before flashing? If the md5 matches then use the method bortak mentions above or I used Android Flasher. Try it again but ensure you follow the instructions given earlier to the letter.

i used radio version 3.35.20.10 ... don't know if the older version work or not..
what kind of errors you are facing ?? i hope its about script .. if so .. then you must download "Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10" from the wildfire index page (this package is by default amend scripted) . i hope you are using clockworkmod 3.xx or later which doesn't support "amend scripting" that why you have to use CWM 2.xx .. for that purpose you must have "ROM Manager" installed. comes with CM7 By Default ..
so from ROM manager.... flash the old version 2.xx ( will be temporary).. choose the "rebooot into recovery" option .. when in recovery (with green menu text) .. choose the zip to install .. and here you go ... a working GPS ..
Ok!!!I firstly flashed the update1.zip,CWM temporary changed and then i flashed regularly like i was flashing a ROM.I flashed them successfully to 3.35.19.25 because i already had the 3.35.20.10.The installation went perfect and now i have my GPS running and some GSM improvements!!!Thanks to all Guys!
Hello,
sry for this noob question but I have searched this problem on the forum and it seems like that nobody else is having ´the same problem.
Since I've rooted I have been wanting to flash a custom rom on my phone. For my particular ROM the developer suggests to flash the latest Radio. I've tried to install it through the recovery ("install zip from sdcard") but my recovery just won't install it.
rooted using revolutionary. Of course s-offed. My Phone is the PVT4 SLCD with erase size of 20000
My Recovery is ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (That from rom manager)
Thanks

You wrote everything except the most important part - bootloader information.
But I reckon what you'll write so probably the /cache is to small to flash radio using a .zip leaving you only with fastboot flash method.
Hi, I don't know which hboot you are using. But I think you have got one with small cache partition (5M size). If it's true, you should flash radio by fastboot.
Actually I have the stock hboot. I think the recovery is the problem. So CWM says the installation aborted. Amend scripting is no longer supported. I should switch to edify scripting. How can I do that?
for what its worth, my advice if you have a recent radio (one where second string of numbers starts with _5) then leave it and try it with the rom. If you do need to change it I'd recommend learning to use fastboot to flash as it takes other software layers out the equation.
Also, get rid of Rom Manager - you don't need it and it causes problems with Desire - and since you're s-off install 4Ext Recovery.

I had the same problem with stock hboot. I only have a Mac and Ubuntu machines, and I haven't found an easy step by step tutorial to use fastboot (only for Windows) so I'd rather do it with just the phone itself. So is it still possible to flash radio without using a computer?
On the other hand I used to have the latest radio before unrooting my phone for warranty reasons, and I can't see any difference in performance...
Here is a German Tutorial (sorry for that):
http://www.brutzelstube.de/2012/edify-scriptfehler-flashen-eines-radio-images-mittels-adb/
I had the same issue, did it with this tutorial and it worked good for me!
Short translation:
#1: Boot in the Fastboot menu (start with power+ volume down then fastboot)
#2: Install ADB http://www.brutzelstube.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/adb-tools.zip
#2: Extract the "radio.img" from the Radio .zip file and copy it to the ADB folder
#3: Connect your mobilphone with the Computer, wait a few seconds then navigate with cmd to the ADB folder and put the following line in: "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
#4: restart your phone
It worked for me!!!
Easier way would be Android Flasher:

Can you or any one else provide me the link to download Clockworkmod 2.5.X.X. I cant find it anywhere.
I have 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 baseband version and Stock hboot.
Do i need to upgrade it to install sense 3.5 roms? Are there any risk in flashing radio? As every sense 3.5 rom freezes occasionally on my desire.
Thanks
any 3.5 sense rom is too heavy for desire, you can speed it up if you use cm7r2 hboot... flashing radio is risky operation if radio flash will fail it is not recoverable in most cases, htc will replace motherboard if you can provide proper reason under warranty... you don't need to update radio to flash rom but battery life can be affected by radio...
to flash radio without ruu you must be s-off
