and it's good to have it, or keep it if you already have one
it will come in handy for flashing and resetting stuff, and rescue recovery operations for those Oooops! times
The jig puts the phone into download mode but it does not reset the custom binary counter. Unless this was discovered.
Where is the best place to buy one or if any one has a extra one PM me and im assuming they mean a soft brick correct?

So you have personal experience with it and you're saying when you tried it, it did not work to reset the binary counter?
That's the whole point of the jig, otherwise you can just put it in download mode by holding the buttons, so that's to say the jig doesn't work with T989?
Yes, the jig does not reset the custom binary counter, but does put it into download mode. samsung has patched their bootloader and unless someone finds a way around it wont work with our galaxy s ii
Have you ttied it? I did some research and found this http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/ this article states and has pictures of a custom jig resetting the custom binary/rom counter

i didnt see it either... daddymatt said it worked for his phone and his signature said he posted from a SGH-t989 xda app. so i wonder where he got his from.
I haven't tried it and know it doesn't state our model, but if the sprint and att version are all made by Samsung, shouldn't it theoretically work on ours.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
ours is different then both of those due to processor and other things so im thinking it wouldnt but im not sure???
the sprint and att version both come with 2.3.4 correct? and ours came with 2.3.5? maybe there was a patch for the jig in the update?
Sorry guys, didn't realize there was a question. I ordered mine from Amazon about 6 months ago... looks like any other I have seen with no distinguishing marks just a tiny black box the same size as the microusb male end... hum, ill see if I can track down the vendor I purchased it from.

You need an attitude check. This was posted in Q&A, he had a question and needs help. If this was posted in the wrong forum, I could MAYBE see this kind of attitude but not here. You were helpful in giving him a link to get his device repaired, but the rest of it was just uncalled for.

I did research and no one gave a straight answer anywhere. i googled countless places. a lot of them said to do these button combinations and none worked. some say the only way to do it is through a jig. as you say Jtag. i do everything the way i usually do it by reading the posts before flashing.. idk what went wrong here.

As far as I know, he is right about JTAG being your only repair option. This may sound like an obvious question, but I have seen this happen before. Are you sure you were downloading from the right forum? (i.e. not accidentally downloading a ROM meant for another carrier.)
I'm kind of curious how this happens. Never heard of bricking from simply flashing a rom.

If rom is for another carrier or the international version of the S3 (i believe the I9300) then it'll brick it quick.
I thought the i9300 is the sprint version. i had looked it up... but oh well. I did more research i missed one step which may have caused it, or my download corrupted. But my next option is to find someone with a Jtag in my area.

Yup you flashed the wrong ROM. I had this happen on my Evo 3D, I don't remember which ROM it was but someone had linked to it from the CDMA forum and I took their word for it being a CDMA ROM. It was GSM. Fortunately I was still able to load hboot and loaded clockwork mod via fast boot. I'm sure you've tried going into download mode or recovery a hundred times by now, but one hundred and one wouldn't hurt. Make sure you are pressing the right buttons in the right combination and letting go at the right time. Honestly I think the SIII is a pain to get into D/L or recovery mode. It always takes me a few tries. If you can do that, you won't need to JTAG it. Good luck!

No one should be vilified for asking a question, in the proper place, after researching - and no one should be made to feel worse than they already do when they've got an expensive paperweight they're trying to resurrect. I do not think I did it with wrong files. I made a tar from the img file I got from clockworkmod.com so I am sure it was clean. I am wondering if perhaps it screwed up because I had changed build.prop to say the device was "Galaxy Nexus" for Wallet to work properly. And maybe that mod I made confused it and somehow flashed something for a Nexus instead and that is why it wont function. If I had it to do again, I would have changed the build.prop back for few moments while I changed the recovery image. All of this was simply to update CWM to newest 6.0.2.8 since ROM Manager told me there was new one. I wish I had ignored it and just said no. Is there no way to hard reset this thing somehow with ODIN or a key combination that say a Samsung employee tool may "flash factory" to it? Seems odd I cannot fix this on my own. No tool nothing?
I've heard the wallet needs to be reset and all that before anything new is flashed.
I haven't flashed anything since the wallet, so I haven't looked into it yet.

Look for JTAG repair. If you can't even get it to turn on, that's what needs to be done.
It's not a home job - to tools cost several times more than the service and require more specialised knowledge.
If you can get it to turn on, look into making or buying a micro-usb jig - cheap and might work if you have time to mess around.

I am certain that is the reason I have hard brick. If I had changed build.prop....changed the recovery with mobile odin....then gone and changed it back afterwards...I am sure it would not have broken the phone. At any rate, I just will have to await warranty replacement since I get mixed readings about this MTV solution that costs almost 100 bucks.
No need to change it back. Once wallet is set up and your card activated, you can set your build.prop back to t999 and Wallet will still work perfectly, it only needs to say Nexus for the install/activation.

Again, if you simply change your build.prop back to the correct values for the T999 afyer you activate Google Wallet, the entire issue would be avoided and Mobile Odin should be safe to use. I know its too late for that for the OP, but hopefully someone somewhere can learn from this.

I already tried taking the battery out and waiting 30 to 60 secs, hitting the power bottom without the battery then putting the battery right in and trying to get into recovery mode.
Everytime i plug the phone into the computer via USB, the computer makes a noise like it recognized the device but then asks me for the "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" drivers. I think i found those, not sure yet... Please help... I can't sent the phone to customer service since i rooted the phone my warranty is void.

The issue was that he installed the wrong rom on his device. Happens all the time with the t989. He probably flashed a rom for an i9100. Both devices are marketed as the samsung galaxy s2, which confuses new users.

Picture worked. As far as the flash counter, I don't know first-hand; but I do believe with the new Knox bootloader it will trip a counter that can't be reset as of right now.
If you are in some way testing this phone for Samsung and they find out you leaked information without permission there may be consequences. Not sure what but if you under a tester agreement stride soft on the ice you are walking on.

Ya dood.... dump it!!
Hmm, wonder how long till Sammobile gets an odin file up, maybe i might stay up all night and write you a C# program that will dump the ROM for you. You shouldn't need to root to dump the ROM. A simple "adb pull /system C:\ROM_DUMP" should do the trick. Then again, the kernel won't be included. that might need root for.
