Hello,
I have tried new cables, installing Samsung usb drivers, Google drivers and somehow the driver installation fails every time. I am using Windows7 X64.
Under disk Drives there is two instances of "Android UMS Composite USB Device" with a cannot start code10 fault.
Any help would be appreciated much !!
Pete
Try turning on usb debugging in the development section of applications.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Enable "USB Debugging" then mount to USB.
Settings, Applications, Development, enable USB debugging.
I tried check marking USB Debugging and then using USB Mass Storage but still a no go...
Still two Items in device manager with Code10 Faults
Pete
Is there some info i can provide that will help me resolve this issue ?
Pete
Are you getting an error on the windows side or android side?
Like other's have posted, you first have to go to settings->applications->development and enable USB debugging.
Then once you've plugged the phone into your computer, pull down the notifications on the phone and press the 'USB Connected', then click the 'Connect USB Storage'
Edit: nvm,i see you've tried this already
This is what i see in device manager, despite even uninstalling them several times.
I have even tried several cables..

I think I am unable to get my phone into USB debugging mode.
First off, I believe I have downloaded all the correct drives via links from this forum. I have enabled USB debugging mode by going from Home > Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging checked.
However, when I connect my phone, in the status bar it reads, "USB connected" should it say something with regards to USB debugging? My HTC phone specifically would say USB debugging when connected. Please forgive my noobness, this is my first Samsung phone.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thank in advance!
I, too, came from a long line of HTCs. There is no notification for USB debugging for this phone. If you want to make sure it is working, root it!
Good luck and enjoy your new phone!
Type
adb devices
If you see your phone, usb debugging is working
I know there are many of us that use programs like Airdroid to get files into our phones but transferring large files can be time consuming if. Im not sure if i am the only one but CM9 nighties for the nitro has no USB MASS storage. I was able to mix a couple of things to get it working on the Nitro.
First Head to this thread to download the flash-able zip file or you can follow the given instructions. It is a script that can be flashed with Recovery on our phones that will enable usb mass storage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23880938&postcount=35
once you have that flashed, I cleared my cache and dalvik cache to be safe and flashed it again (you may not need to). When that is ready and your phones has booted, plug the phone to your computer via USB. All of the drivers should install except 1 which should be called MTP USB Device. It will try to install but at the end it will fail.
At this point, go to device manager and look for the MTP USB Device
Note: it should have a yellow triangle next to the icon.
You will then Right click and choose select update driver. Select 'browse my computer for drivers' and then choose "Let me pick drivers to install". You will get two options select the USB Mass storage and click OK.
Note: The new driver will be called Linux file CD Gadget
Unplug your phone from the computer and then back it. When the USB mass storage pops up in your phone, click connect and the media card should appear in the pc like a regular usb card.
Thanks to VAXXi for creating the sript and desean for compiling it into a flashable zip (both at the Samsung Galaxy S II forums in XDA) and thanks to sameer.verma at the androidcommunity forums for the explanation on how to update the MTP driver.
Disclaimer: I have only tried this on Windows 7 (Home Premium) 64-bit computer and on a USB 2.0 Port (will not work on USB 3.0). I am also not responsible for any damages to your phone. DO A NANDROID BACKUP TO BE SAFE! I also do not guaranteeing that it will work for you.
*Sigh* You wasted a lot of work. All you have to do is install the LG drivers on your computer and go into USB settings on your phone and change the mode from MTP to USB mass storage.

I've never been able to get USB mass storage to work in CM9 myself. I have LG drivers installed, and even though I have it set to USB mass storage, it still keeps looking for a MTP driver.
Got a link for the lg USB drivers?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
Ohhh, I forgot, you have to go into device manager and manually update the device driver to use the USB mass storage driver. Once you do it once, though, your device will always be recognized by your PC as a mass storage.

I never knew that this was possible from the beginning. But hey now its out here for others to see.' it didn't take me long. Only like 10 minutes max. I only use this to transfer large files (movies or a large amount of music), everything else I do on airdroid
it took me a long time to figure out where the **** the damn usb settings are,
it's
system settings>>storage>>click the search button bottom left to open usb computer connection settings window, click enable mass storage.
damn thing is buried deep!
Yeah it is. It took me a while to figure it out too. My default from the beginning was actually mass storage mode. I had to find it to figure out what people were talking about in regards to MTP. While we're on the subject, MTP also works with the LG drivers, but I find that switching between the two can be a pain in the ass and sometimes requires removing devices from device manager to make device manager select the correct driver.
.....
At this point, go to device manager and look for the MTP USB Device
I could not find MTP USB Device! there is none!!
I am on Win7 ultimate 32 bits + LG drivers installed + [ROM] HO!NO! CM9 "Full Throttle"

Go to Settings > Storage > press Menu button > USB computer connection > select Mass Storage.
Then connect USB cable and wait until Windows fails to find the driver for MTP USB Device. Then it will show up in Device Manager under the "Portable devices" category.
Thanx it worked now
The damn hidden Menu button
I had to use the method in the original post to get it to work. I tried the other methods mentioned here, but the only one that worked was that of the original post. Thanks!
Resurrecting a fairly old thread, but I have tried, without success, to enable USB Mass Storage on CM10. Is it even available in CM10 yet? The menu/search hardware key does nothing but click when tapping while in Settings>Storage. No luck in Device Manager/Updating Driver either. Drivers are installed on my machine. Anybody else attempted this yet?
EDIT: Disregard, solved, credit to this post---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29425905&postcount=212
Nice.

Good work!!!
will this method work on cm9 final 4 by altius cooper for galaxy ace
I just got my Nexus 7(2013) device.
I used to transfer files between my computer and my Nexus 4.
When I plugged in my N4, my computer recognizes my N4 and device manager showed there is a portable devices "Nexus 4"
However when I plugged in my new N7, my computer cannot detect it and device manager showed "Android Device" with "Android Composite ADB Interface" under it.
I cannot find any new drive in My Computer although the device is charging through USB.
I have tried to disable/enable USB Debugging, using different USB cables, switching USB option between MTP and PTP and reinstalling Nexus usb driver from google and all of them do not work.
May I ask for any solution?
Thanks:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Uninstall/remove the drivers
reboot
then reinstall using these drivers
http://dl-ssl.google.com//android/repository/latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
Even if you did it before, try again, with the removal of drivers and the reboot.
Also you may want to try different ports, cables, computers

I've tried that before
I may now try a few times more
By the way, I realized that I can use Wugfresh toolkit and completed the full driver test to bootloader mode. However, I cant even detect the hard drive.
I finally enabled to use PTP to access the photos.
However I am still unable to use MTP to transfer other types of files..
Any help?:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Please perform the following even if you have done it before.
In this current state, turn on MTP. Then turn off USB debugging. See if MTP shows up. If so, use this fix to get MTP working with USB debugging.
[FIX] MTP with USB debugging / ADB within Recovery (windows/nexus7)

I am sorry that I cannot understand it completely.
May I ask
1. Should I uninstall just the entry with Nexus 7 as description in Nirsoft USBDeview and then reboot?
2. You mentioned that "When you turn on USB debugging and windows asks for an MTP driver, just provide mtp_driver.zip". How can I use the zip file? After rebooting and enabling USB debugging, my toolbar on bottom-right has a icon showing I have a MTP and I can choose to "remove MTP safely" just like plugging in a USB flash drive. However, there is not a hard drive in My Computer. Maybe is it the difference between Windows XP and WIndows 7? Or did I misunderstand your instruction?
Thanks for helping! :good:
I finally did it with USB debugging and MTP on.
I occasionally update the Android ADB Interface driver and install Composite USB Device from the list and my computer detects my hard drive!!
Is it possible to get my MTP working without enabling USB Debugging or is it normal to detect mtp with USB Debugging on? :good:

One of the drivers you installed previously which was modified to get MTP working. was implemented too aggressively and is now blocking your ability to use MTP with USB debugging turned off.
For normal systems with no drivers loaded, they have the opposite problem, in that they can get MTP working when USB debugging is disabled, but lose MTP when USB debugging is enabled.
When USB debugging is disabled and MTP is enabled, the USB port advertises that it is compatible with standard MTP drivers, so windows automatically installs. However if you have a custom driver installed, it can block that automatic process.
With USB debugging turned on, the USB port no longer advertises MTP compatibility, so windows is normally confused and doesn't know what driver to use. That you were able to get it working with USB debugging enabled proves to me that you have a custom driver installed that was modified to get MTP working.
The way I wrote my changes to the MTP driver was to leave the standard MTP alone and only intercept the MTP when USB debugging is enabled. Thus my changes don't block normal MTP operation when USB debugging is disabled.

Yes, but you are going to need to figure out which driver you installed is causing the issue and remove it so it doesn't get in the way.
Alternatively, try a different PC that has never had drivers installed and use just the one I pointed you at earlier.
You don't use the zip file directly, you unzip the contents and will have a .inf file.
When windows asks for a driver (USB debugging turned on and MTP turned on) you point the install at the .inf provided. It will do the rest automatically.

I have been using the same computer to root Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 and I remembered I have been using some tool similar to the one you provided.
Maybe it makes my computer cannot recognize the MTP
Anyway, Thanks
Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, rooted with 1-Click Root method, stock everything else, nothing touched, Developer Mode and USB Debugging on.
Here's what it shows when the device is plugged in. I have Intel Android USB Drivers installed. I have tried uninstalling the drivers through Device Manager, but the same driver keeps getting reinstalled.
MTP Mode is selected under USB Settings/Storage whatever it's called, so it should show up in My Computer but it doesn't.
Thanks!
EDIT: I think I solved it, just have to disable USB Development, unplug then replug with MTP or PTP enabled.
Can someone explain why connection of the P2XL to Windows 10 via USB is so troublesome?
At a minimum, each time I connect I have to:
1. Update the device driver via Windows Device Manager from "MTP Device" to "MTP USB Device" (there are two of these)
2. Tap on the P2XL notification "USB for Charging" to change it to "USB for File Transfer"
I have set "Select USB Configuration" in Developer Options to MTP, but this doesn't help.
How can I configure my phone to connect for MTP each time I connect it via USB?
Thanks

Are you using the USB adapter that came with the device, or a standard 2.0 USB A-C cable?
Using the white USB cables that came with the P2XL.
Try just using the charging cable connected to the PC, it's all I use to connect to my Win 10 PC, and the only thing I have to do is make sure the device is set to MTP, I never have to mess with drivers on the PC.
Are your drivers up to date? Are you saving any changes on the PC after making them? Not sure why you're getting the MTP Usb / MTP Device option unless it's related to using the dongle (which I never have)...
It's not Win10 dude, I connect a few times a week for Andromeda purposes, plug and go.

In my case it WAS Win 10. None of my phones would connect for MTP. I frequently use ADB and windows was trying to use those drivers by default. After messing around in device manager I finally was able to select the windows MTP drivers. After that all my phones were able to connect with windows via MTP.

Wtherrell how did you do that? my phone won't even show up on device manager
I I R C I had to delete all the old ones and start fresh. Some of the old ones were not obvious but somewhere on line or in the forums I found some clues about what to look for and delete. I wish I could remember exactly where but I can't at the moment.
