[Q] PC10IMG Errors - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm on the g2 hboot on gingerbread but rooted. I'm trying to install the PC10IMG via bootloader and it keeps saying wrong image and some other stuff. It will not install for the life of me. I'm trying to install the stock froyo rom so I can install the ota update along with s-on for a warranty exchange. Please help!!

Do I need to do the steps for gaining temp root? Because I am already perm rooted.

Sorry misread your original post, you have followed the Unrooting and Returning to Stock section in the wiki? What is the exact error message you are getting?

How do I return Desire Z under warranty?

I have done S-OFF, PermRoot and currently overlocking on my unbranded European Desire Z, but I need to send it back to HTC to repair my phone with some hardware issue under warranty.
What do I need to do? I have seen some guides here but they are all for the T-Mobile G2, and am worried if I follow it it will brick my unbranded European Desire Z.
Just unroot and use an official image! Then everything should be fine.

BAD. NO. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
Flash a stock rooted rom first, THEN follow unrooting steps. There's a thread around here somewhere.

It's only bad if you have S-OFF only via the eng hboot (not gfree), and if you are trying to downgrade your ROM.
If you have S-OFF via gfree then you're fine, just flash the stock ROM back on. Then undo gfree via its options to set S-ON (see the Wiki).
Unfortunately my phone used the S-Off and Root using the old 'hBoot' method I followed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9143423&postcount=3
So what should I do?

What ROM are you running exactly ? If you are still on the stock ROM, and you flash the exact same version back, it will be ok.
I've made no mods prior to this. It was a brand new Desire Z so it was all stock.
Then I did the following:
Rooted and s-off via engineering hboot
Installed Visionary and applied Permroot
Installed ROM Manager for Clockworkmod
Flashed gtrab's godspeed 1.4ghz module via Clockworkmod
How should i go about this now?
Thanks.

You sure about that, Sherlock?
I'm not trying to hijack your thread so please know that but I want to make sure. I thought I could just use the unroot thread to unroot (thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971) should I need to but it seems as if I need to flash a rom now looking in this thread so just to make sure:
1) I rooted my phone via this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965
2) I installed clockwordmod and made a backup.
That's it! I'm going to freeze some apps in a min using Titanium but not uninstall them.
SO... question is, should I need to send my G2 back, what unrooting steps should I take exactly? thanks!
*edit* Ummm MORON* (me) this thread is for the Desire Z NOT G2 which is the phone I am talking about. Sorry, smh! *

Cannot get past the HTC loading screen??

First I used this method to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837315
After trying it out i must of missed a step or something cause it would not go past the HTC screen.. at that point i went into HBoot and saw that I did have root but no image on the phone
The phone wouldn't allow me to install a recovery manually..I tried this methods
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834731 I couldn't connect to computer with usb drivers..i installed pdanet and still wouldn't connect so I tried manually and the phone wouldn't allow me to install it.
I then used the same manual method and was able to install the default recovery that comes with the phone. I can't find the link at the moment to that recovery.
I attempted to install the rom before OTA and the rom after OTA..and neither would install using the update.zip method or the hboot pc10img.zip method
I then followed this method suggested

After using that method I lost root as it no longer said S-OFF it now says S-ON
I posted some pics to help see what I see and to show what happens when I go into the recovery

Just tried it and it tells me that "file is wrong image" after I press bootloader from hboot
I basically need a rom that i can rename to update.zip and have it installed through the phone's original recovery..I have tried an old rom before OTA I found and wouldn't allow me to update that cause its too old..i also tried installing a custom ROM with no luck..

You didn't rename the file you downloaded did you? It must be named PC10IMG.zip for it to work. Alternatively, you can try flashing back the originally shipping rom located in the dev section (since the one from that linked thread was modified to remove the radio and such).
Edit: Link for original shipping ROM (assuming you have a G2).

Strange with S-off you should be able to flash the customized PC10IMG that hot_hands made, may be you had a bad download try to redownload it and flash it again. If not I copied it the day hot_hands made it and have a drop box link for it.

What did you get the original recovery to do exactly?
Anyway,.... if you have the eng-hboot you will be able to use the fastboot commands posted in the other thread to flash the custom recovery.
If no eng-hboot then you will need to use the pc10img method. Have you applied any ota updates? Do you know what ROM was on there before you tried all this? 1St try pc10img method with the rom version prior to 1.72 (1.19 maybe?), if fail again due to older version then use 1.72. Infact as all are now rootable it shouldn't make a difference now.

The 1.72 rom was for the Desire Z not the Tmobile G2, so do not use 1.72 rom on the Tmobile G2.
Heres a link for the shipped rom's from Tmobile its only the top 2 on the list the other 2 are for the Desire Z:
Edit this is for the rom 1.12

[Q] help unrooting evo4g

I am trying to unroot evo 4g for a friend someone else rooted it and installed cm7. He wants to return the phone to sprint. I have read the stickies and searched for others having the same issues. But still no luck do I need to flash a none asop rom or am i missing something else. I am not real familiar with h boot and s-on / s-off. It was rooted with unrevoked so i followed the steps in the stickie and keep getting an error when i try pc36img. Also is pc36img the stock rom files. Any help would be apperciated. Thanks in advanced for your time and help.

.exe are RUUs.
You plug the device into a computer and run the .exe and it will return it to stock.
.zip go on the SDCARD.
You boot into the bootloader and it will auto run and return to stock.

[HBOOT] HBOOT update for EU users who's having problem with RUU

Well as you can see I updated my wildfire S 2 or 3 days ago with OTA, so now when ever I try to flash the RUU from htcdev.com it fails be because "I Have a newer ROM version [ERROR 191]"
so I extracted the Zip file from the RUU and flashed from SDcard and it worked !
WARNING THIS IS ONLY FOR EU UNLOCKED FOLLOW THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWEN RESPONSIBILITY
1- Moderator Edit link removed Multiupload is not supported as a file host site on XDA
2-Copy it to your Sdcard
3-Shutdown the phone
4-Start into Bootloader (Volume down + power)
5-Wait for it to Load the Zip file
6-chose yes (volume up)
And your done
now reboot and Delete the Zip file from Sdcard
I have an EU WFS, but getting the 171 error, will this help?
Two questions for you

1. Do you mean that you upgraded to 2.3.5 a couple days ago and that's why it won't flash the RUU? I was assuming I got ERROR 191 because I hadn't upgraded to 2.3.5 yet.
2. Were you getting the exact same message with the error code?
ERROR [191] ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED
Your ROM Version is not currently supported, but there will be an update soon that will be supported. You will receive a notification to update your phone to the latest ROM code.
After you have updated, please run the RUU again to upgrade your HBOOT to unlock your phone. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Incidentally, the part number for my phone is the same as the generic EU phone: PG76100 so your method of installing the ROM should work the same.
Update:
I got through the HBOOT update using the tip posted in this thread. It worked like a charm, so apparently my 2.3.3 Asia ROM wasn't the problem.
So I want to say thanks for the trick also! Tomorrow I'll finish the unlock process tomorrow as it's already after 10:30 PM here.
So unlocked in this case means that only will work with a phone which is S-OFF?

No. It's for S-ON and does not provide S-OFF. Just unlocks HBOOT so you can flash custom recovery, root and flash new rom.

If you look carefully, when choosing WFS, it has a * on the side saying that you have to update your HBOOT.
Anyway...it is not working for me. I put the file on my memory card and boot into the bootloader. it seems to load but I just don't get an option to update.
Thanks a lot! It says HBOOT 1.08.0099 with a LOCKED (OOW) above it.
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: LOVE YA MATE! IT WORKED! I NOW HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! DDDD
tried this on mine and it says "Can not rollback HBOOT" then it bypasses the hboot update. It updates the radio just fine though.

I already clicked thanks but I want to SAY thanks anyway.
I had my phone with the latest European RUU 2.3.5 but as stated on the HTCDEV.com site I needed the HBOOT update.
I tried to update with the RUU download from HTCDEV.com but I had a crazy error, not like any seen around here.
It wasn't 171 or 191, it just seemed trash.
I'm almost certain that the RUU's that HTC makes aren't prepared for Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 users.
Back then when I updated to 2.3.5 (by football) I had to unzip the RUU and replace some ADB files with newer ones.
With the file extracted and updated it worked. I even posted an updated version here on XDA for people that were having problems like me.
So now that my bootloader is unlocked I will proceed with the next steps.
Still have a long way to go.
Thanks again for your file. It worked like a charm.
thanks now get the missus phone unlocked thanks

So then I follow rest of steps? Do I use unrevoked to unroot too?

well since you want to go back to 2.3.3 you'll have to use revolutionary.io to achieve s-off. Its the same steps except your substituting the froyo ruu with the gingerbread one and you root with revolutionary instead of unrevoked

No, you won't need to do anything after flashing the ROM. You'll be unrooted and S-ON.
You would only need unrevoked (or Revolutionary, in this case) if you were trying to unlock your NAND (S-OFF).
So all I need to do is flash and there will be no traces of root?

After updating the misc partition you can downgrade to a version rootable through unrevoked. You go to step 11 and flash the PC36IMG.zip it will downgrade you to froyo 2.2. But if you want to downgrade to 2.3 flash a gingerbread RUU(posted one in first page of thread) instead of a froyo one
