What apps can and can't be moved to SD by Titanium? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Titanium backup has the capability to move apps to the SD card that normally won't go. I wanted to check everyone's success or failure on moving these stubborn or poorly written apps. Apps appear to move to sd card but do not work properly and others go just fine. Can we start a list? I will try to maintain it here. Thanks.

Thanks to lilajrestnom and TexasEpic4G for their contributions.

This is a great idea. This is most helpful. It would also be good to know what applications can be restored without causing a bunch of FCs. This is the reason I don't like saving applications to my SD card.

I have not had much luck with moving apps in Titanium. I usually use app2sd.

Apps2sd only moves the apps that r able to b moved on the sd card but titanium moves any app u choose..
I haven't ever tried it tho too scared to lol

I move most of my games to sd card using titanium the main ones I don't put are widgets, launcher, lock screen apps, handcent and text message apps, mainly system type apps I don't move but all others go over and work fine

Kenny, you're not getting any examples. I'll try some of mine and let you know. One question; where in Titanium is the option to move apks to the SD card? I have the paid version and don't see it.

You can either go to batch and there will b a "move/integrate" section that allows u to choose what files to move on sd card
Or jut go to the normal "backup/restore" hold an app until the big menu pops up and near the bottom it says "move to sd"

Just a qestion... what does it really help with to move the apps to sd card? Just memory?

The phone has very limited storage...just 512MB and OS takes up almost 300MB of that. For people that are appaholics they need to store them on the SD card.

Ya I knew it was basically for memory and that helps the phone process better.. correct..?
Ill try and move some apps now and see what I can and still works

So I found out that some apps will not allow you to move them to the sd card or convert them to user app
But the xda app moved to sd card well and its working normally
I don't really use millions of apps so I don't have many to choose to move lol most of my apps r already made to be allowed to be saved on sd card but if I try more ill let you know
And I'm guessing apps like set cpu and screen filter will not work if there on the sd card..?

Just tried HBO GO, it moved successfully and works.
And Groupon, Iheart Radio and Qik work as well.

OP edited with more apps able to be moved.

CLZ Comics worked !

So I just moved all my apps to the sd card (30 apps) and all of them seem to still b working perfectly except any widgets
From the 30 there is setcpu, voodoo sound, screen filter, youtube, dolphin browser hd (and the blue addon theme), poweramp, xda, titanium, root explorer, handcent sms (and the darkness theme), androzip, andy86, dual file manager, cpu spy, and tubemate.
I hope this helps.

[Q] What Apps do you think should never be put on the SD Card?

I am rooted and using The EVO Classic Sense Redefined by tommytomatoe. I have moved a lot of my apps to the SD card but have kept those that have widgets that I use or apps like Superuser, BusyBox or others that I fell are essential phone apps in the internal memory (voice-mail).
Are there certain apps that should always be kept in internal memory or am I being over cautious?
BTW, I use Move2SD Enabler to allow more apps the option of being transferred.
Thanks for your comments
Doc
The classic has a2sd built in and if you're partitioned will automatically move the appropriate apps for you
We are legion, for we are many
any app that you use a widget for shouldn't be on the SD card or else the Widgets won't work..

I heard you aren't supposed to move any rooted apps (titanium backup, cachemate, etc) onto the SD card nor any Widgets. Ruins functionality for the app

Some handle it just fine.
I have run Mybackup Pro (with root) from the SDcard.
Just depends on the dev. I have seen several apps that claimed they could be moved, but ran horrible if I did. If I remember right Astro file manager didn't like it, then again, it stayed in memory, so that could have been part of it. I dumped it after seeing that anyhow.
Anything like launchers, alarms, stuff that runs at boot (or on a schedule), and of course widgets I would keep on internal. But I keep everything on internal, with plenty of room to spare. I don't run a ton of apps though, I just keep them backed up and restore if needed. If I don't use them for a week then I uninstall. I can always restore them if I need to.

I never move any widgets to SD. Also ran into perf issues when I moved nav. Pretty much everything else is fine when moved.

Moving apps to sd card

How would you guys do this? Manually I think its failing me and other apps like tibu don't work :/

This always happens to me before, like all my apps on SD card randomly uninstall themselves, if I reboot, another one will be uninstalled while the previous is okay.
Usually, I go to settings > Storage > Unmount SDcard > then Mount SDcard afterwards.
This pissed me off so I moved all my apps to the 2gb partition... good thing I cleaned some of it so it occupies about 800mb...
Hm strange titanium backup still won't move but I'll try that app... Thanks
Edit: all app 2 sd does is make me go to the manual screen...

Is there a way to set default media storage to ExtSdCard for all downloads?

Hi
I'm sorry if someone already asked this (tried searching but didn't find the exact same question).
Is it possible to set a default storage location for all apps downliads/pictures? I know how to do it in camera and some apps have a setting option for this. But I've uninstalled many apps (wallpapers etc) simply because I'm too frustrated with transferring files manually.
For example, my instagram saves pictures to device memory and it really bothers me...
Thanks a lot!

Thanks so much for the link. However, I'm not trying to move apps to sd card because I don't have that many apps. And I don't really want to root my device.
I want to set all app downloads to sd card. Some apps have a setting for that but some don't.
Thanks anyway!

You can use directory bind, but sorry still you needs root to use it.

[Q] sd card help please

I rooted my s4 but I have no clue how to move anything to the micro sd card its 32 gigs class 4 I bought music from the playstore and some apps and just want to move it to the sd. This is my first android I had ipod/iphones before this
Welcome to Android
First off, congrats on the switch to Android. I personally believe you won't want to go back to iPhone. With that said, I don't have my S4 yet, but if it's anything like other Androids, you can use a file app (I use Astro) and move any files back and forward as you see fit. You can also mount the phone to a PC and move it that way or put the SD card itself in the PC. If your filling up the whole 32GB or a lot of data, the fastest would probly be mounting the SD card itself into the PC.
Hope this helps, but then again.... I'm still waiting for the S4 to release in my area.
I found a way to move the music to sd card just not apps I think they made it harder to move because no apps I download do it but ill try astro. Ipod/iphone jailbreaking is simpler lol.

I have a 32gb iPhone 5 and have at least 17gbs in games alone.
I'm also looking for a way to install apps on the SD card.
I haven't open my GS4 yet so I can return it incase we can't.
600+ for a 9GB is a not good.
@@@use " link2sd " application...download from play store...its not only let u too move apps to sd...and u can also uninstall unwanted system apps if u [email protected]@@

Anyone figure out how to move apps to SD card?

I would really like to free up some space on my internal SD. I bought a 64GB SD card , and am using FolderMount to try and move the apps, but to no avail. Anyone figure this out yet? I am rooted running Infamous S4, and have removed all of the bloatware possible. Still really low an memory.
I use the stock file manager to move apps, i had this same problem with storage. Do you have more than one backup saved on your internal sd?

Like I stated in the original post, I am using FolderMount. The problem is the folders where the games should be are empty when I look for them. That is the ones I can find. Its like they don't really exist. I went into my data folder, did find one game, Zynga Poker, and tried to move it, pinned it, and it did absolutely nothing.
Your not moving the whole folder then. Your doing something wrong. Watch a couple YouTube videos on how to. Navigate to SD card, android, data or obb and select one of your games inside either of those two folders
