[Q] Weird issue after root, media scan doesnt work. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

After i rooted my rom the media scanner tries to work but locked the phone up for 3 seconds and then goes away, but my pictures, videos, music will not show up on either phone storage or SD card.
any tips i should use to get it working? i was from starburst, viper, and now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323763
Is it the root method that could have done this? a better method i should use, or a mod/hotfix i could use?

I have even tried re rooting with other methods. Nothing is working. Plz help.
my guess is no one knows. because i cant find this issue anywhere.

[Q] INCREDIBLE deletes apps after reboots

I have the Incredible. A while ago I used Z4root to use the temporary root option. Not sure what I've done but, ever since I screwed something up every time I reboot the phone every app that I have installed is gone and I have to re-enter my gmail info. I have to re-enter my sync options as well. I've tried everything from doing a complete wipe, reformatted my mem card, tried every root method I could fined to even making a gold card and trying to downgrade. Back when the OTA update came out I updated it not knowing at the time. I've got 2.2 Baseband 2.15.00.07.28, Kernal 2.6.32.17, and Software 3.26.605.1. Anyone have any suggestions or fixes for this issue would be greatly appreciated. It's driving me crazy.
Is z4 a permanent root? Doesn't sound like it. Recommend unrEVOked as a means of permanent root.

I've tried every Unrevoked and every method. I've searched XDA and I must be dumb. I can't get it to work?
Are you loading the apps into phone memory, or SD - and if SD, is there ample room on the card? Is it formatted FAT32? Is the write protect engaged on the SD card?
Perhaps verify whether you are S-OFF - look @ the top line of wording in the HBOOT screen (white background w/ multicolored wording).
With device off, hold volume DOWN and power button to boot into HBOOT.
Recovery screen, black w/ orange or green lettering doesn't give this information.
Are you flashing a different ROM and this still happens, or just with the rooted stock setup?
I have looked at all of that. I'm positive that it is not Rooted at this time. The problem is even after a complete reload of the original rom, and after complete system wipe etc. Every time it reboots it has uninstalled every app that I have installed. It has also deleted my gmail account. Most other settings are present. So every time I have a reboot and sometimes it does it on its own. I have to redo my back up, re load all contacts, etc. Even market place updates have to be re installed. There is something going on that has flashed I assume that has created a problem.

[Q] MY SD CARD WONT MOUNT after data2ext installation!!!

Ok i posted this in q&a forums but imma put this on here too. ok so i wanted to install data2ext after having to re flash CM7 on my phone. so after i installed it at first it was working fine, but when i rebooted my phone, and tried to play music, install apps to my SD, etc, my phone wouldnt let me, i tried goin to storage, and my phone didnt show up! i tried hitting the format button on that page and that didnt work either, i have googled like a mad man for the last 3 days and nothing has worked
! please tell me someone has the answer to my horrible problem, i have a lot of vital things on there that i could never get back so pleaseeee!!!!! help me!
I know this isn't an answer (and it looked like you were getting some help in another thread), but rule #1 when doing anything with an sd card: Back it up first!
Have you tried removing the sd card and putting it into a card reader to see if that gives access to it?
Did you ever figure out a work around this, ogimnella? I've come into a similar problem.
@mojoffdawal no, unfortunately (and fortunately) i had to use a backup memory card, it is another data2ext guide that works (cuz i installed it on the backup) i will edit the guide soon as my pc fixes!

[Q] Rooted Unlocked = Broken Camera

Hey guys. I finally unlocked and rooted my phone but somehow broke my camera. It loads up and takes a picture but it never saves. I thought I had read about this issue a while back but my searches have come up empty. I did download another camera app called fxcamera and it seems to work just fine. I liked the original app and would like to get it working again if possible. Oh yeah I'm still using the stock rom. Any ideas?
I don't really know where to begin with this issue. It seems so minor and appears to be the only thing not working at this time. It weird because nothing changed. Its only been rooted and unlocked. I tried to clear data. That didn't help. I'm thinking I just need to flash a new rom. I just haven't decided which one yet. I don't have time to play with a few so whatever I pick needs to my daily driver for awhile. Maybe I need to reset to factory again? Again any ideas?
I've too seen others with this issue...
Not sure what they did to fix it...
But I also remember one user flashing multiple roms in the attempt to fix and didn't fix it.
Sorry I'm not of further help at the moment, I'll do a quick search as well.
Edit:
Might be a permissions error.
Try deleting the dcim folder from your SD card first...
And then check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473629&highlight=camera+not+saving
The code user #2 gives can be imputed through "Terminal Emulator" found in the market.
Type "su" and hit enter.
App will ask for superuser permission...accept, obviously.
Then input his code.
Thank you for trying but Im still stuck. I tried deleting the DCIM folder but it wont let me. Just says folder cannot be deleted. I then tried to run that command in terminal emulator but it says it cant find busybox. I really dont know what im doing here but its my guess it cant find busybox because its not installed where its expecting it to be. And I cant install it where it expects it to be. Would it make sense to wipe everything out and install a new ROM?
Just reboot the phone. If that fails, clear data and reboot.

Still no go. In the meantime I was able to get my camera working again by renaming the DCIM folder To DCIM1 and creating a new Folder called DCIM with two subfolders 100ANDRO and Camera. Not sure if the subfolders were needed but it worked. The old folders with my backed up content still sit there now useless and still cant delete. Cant I just wipe everything and start from scratch. I really just want a clean install. I dont need to backup anything. I didnt need to backup anything after rooting and unlocking but I figured why not.
You can reformat your internal SD card via CWM. If it still doesn't work I'd put it back to stock and take it back to the store and complain it doesn't work properly. Assuming the camera doesn't work as desired once back to stock.

+1 If you have problems with any part of the phone just unroot and take it back. if that fixes the camera. then you know it was the method you used to root and I would try another method.
Fix it from recovery
I had a similar problem because I copied files to my sdcard folder while in recovery, which uses root ownership but when the system is booted, sdcard is mounted under a different userid which does not have permission to modify root owned files.
1. boot to recovery
2. use adb shell to cleanup or chown root-owned files to 1023:1023 so they can be modified after rebooting
If you are still having problems you can always just use the ToolKit to unlock and flash a google stock rom which will wipe everything including virtual sd card and should fix any problems.
Mark.

Thanks Mark your right seeing as though I just want a clean install at this point anyways. I remember looking at that in the tookit but it was late and I think I dismissed it because I believed at the time it would also lock or unroot it or both. Im guessing since you recommended this option that is not the case.
Thanks everyone for their input. I appreciate it.

Flashing the Google Stock Image will not relock the bootloader but you will lose root. You can easily use the ToolKit after you flash the Rom to root the phone again if you wish.

Return to stock help

Went on a long road trip and I think the phone sitting on the dash during the day fried something. I keep getting extended messages that say media scanner is running when trying to use camera app after reboot, stops after about 15 minutes and I can take pics. I have tried several rooms, reformatted sd cards, used apps to scan the cards and nothing works. I need to return to sprint for repair/replacement. I have a Mac so Odin is out. Can I flash stock rom/kernel via recovery or mobile Odin? Help is appreciated..

I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?3balae
For Mac, you would use heimdale I think its spelt. I don't know anything about the layout but I'd assume it basically does the same thing. So if you can, go to sfhubs el29 stock rooted thread and flash it through heimdale like that then you can use the auto root program to unroot it.

[Q] Help! Messed up Rom!

Okay so I'm kind of freaking out but not really because I'm sure I can get a good answer fairly soon. I was on the Whompasaurus Rom and had the beats audio installer app and opened the app. I was coming from stock lk8 which had the beats so it showed up as that i had it installed when in fact it didn't. I had the acid mod that came with the whompasuarus rom. Anyways, as many of us do when our fingers are near are root app, they started getting root happy and decided to click the uninstall beats audio button when i had no beats on it. So, my phone immediately rebooted and then showed up on the homescreen for a few seconds before continuing to reboot. So at this point the phone cannnot be accessed. Now, I have all my backups safely on my computer that can be transferred via usb. However...I CANNOT MOUNT MY PHONE ONTO THE COMPUTER SINCE I HAVE NO AVAILABLE ROM. I have custom recovery and everything but I'm kind of scared I might have messed up my phone since this has never happened. Hopefully someone can enlighten me on a way to simply mount my phone so I can put my rom onto the phone and install it. Thanks to anyone who can answer my question regarding what to do now. I have tried mounting my phone via recovery and it's not showing up as an accessible data that can be altered.

I also have the galaxy note 2 toolkit if that helps
Happened to me.
Put the ROM or any file you want or need on a Micro SD card from your PC.
Place card into phone
Recovery will find it with guidance from you.
*If you switched your internal / external memory, pull the battery first to avoid errors.
Have you tried putting it into download mode, then reinstalling stock firmware? When I got stuck in boot loop it helped. Then you could re-root, go into twrp, reinstall backups.

Before I went to bed last night it hit me that I could use the extension sd to put on the rom.
I got one of my family's phones, transferred the rom onto his extension sd card and then put his sd onto my phone. It worked fine. Xda was down earlier so I couldn't view any responses but now that Google finished installing all my apps I see someone had the same sort of idea I did. I was actually looking for the micro sd adapter and couldn't find it so I pursued the above action.
Although...I did kind of get nervous because at the very beginning when I was re setting up the rom it said system ui has stopped unexpectedly. I have expected to see the rom restart but it didn't. I had weird force closes of apps I never heard of that made my phone restart so you can guess what I was probably thinking. Anyways thanks for the quick responses.
