I rooted my Evo for the first time today using the Revolutionary method. Everything went smoothly following the instructions. I downloaded and flashed the latest Evo Classic ROM and I was loving it. It seems to be an awesome ROM. I have 200 MB free space instead of 46MB with all of my apps installed. Everything was great until I went to go to bed. I put the phone on the stock HTC charger and climbed in bed. Less than a minute later it rebooted. The phone has always done that at random times so I didn't think anything of it. Shortly after it booted it rebooted again. It just keeps rebooting over and over as long as it's on the charger! Now it even reboots when it's not charging but the interval is as long as 10 minutes instead of 1.
Has anyone else had this issue? I spent HOURS getting everything just right and customizing settings after flashing this ROM and I really don't want to have to do it all over again. I followed the instructions for flashing the ROM. I cleared the cache and wiped all data. I backed up my apps with Titanium Backup and restored a select number of them. My phone is my alarm clock. Now I can't trust it to wake me up in the morning to go to work!
EDIT: I just restored from my stock NAND backup and it is working fine for tonight. I'm guessing I need to just start from scratch and reflash Evo Classic? I can't seem to find anyone else that had this problem so I assume it was something with my flash or an app I had installed?
I flashed a fresh Evo Classic ROM and started over. Everything was great. I got it all setup and restore my apps. No rebooting problems. Put it on the charger. Worked fine. As a troubleshooting step I opened Sleep, my alarm clock app, and within 30 seconds it rebooted. Obviously something with that app triggered it. I uninstalled it. About a minute later it started a reboot loop in one minute intervals.
Apparently no one has any ideas or I am invisible. I can't post in the Evo Classic thread because I don't have enough posts to earn me the privilege.
Did you wipe dalvik? And what recovery are you using?
I am using Revolutionary recovery (I think?). It is the one that was installed when I rooted following the directions.
I only see two options:
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Clear Cache Partition
I have done both of these each time I flashed. I just flashed again and installed only the Sleep As An Droid app fresh from the market. I opened it and within one minute it rebooted. Obviously this app doesn't agree with this ROM or something isn't going right during the wipe and/or flash.
Any other suggestions for a stable ROM that has the new Sense notification bar with quick settings?
EDIT: I found the Dalvik Cache wipe option under advanced. Doing it now and will reflash and try again.
EDIT 2: Well that failed. I wiped data, cache partition, and dalvik and flashed the ROM. I logged into my Google account, downloaded the app from the market, put the phone on the charger, opened the app, and it rebooted.
Is it rebooting if you don't use that particular app at all?

That recovery is called clockwork. You might think about changing your recovery to amon ra since some people have issues with clockwork because it doesn't properly wipe cache and dalvik
Hey there! Sorry about your issues. I don't always check the q&a, so you are usually better off posting on my thread or pm. I just happened to peep on here today
First. Use this. It's the second step on my instructions to flash Classic. Not necessary, but recommended. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Second, don't use titanium backup. Instead, use mybackup root (free in market and included with my Rom). Not to bash tb, but mybackuproot has never given me issues while I've heard stories about tb.
Third, once you get amon ra installed, boot into recovery and wipe everything but your sdcard.
Fourth, download a fresh copy of classic from a reliable network, like home computer. Downloading from a phone is bad news (just a tip since you're newly rooted )
Fifth, flash and enjoy!
Please let me know how it goes for you.
Truly,
Tommy

Thank you very much for the reply! I will try your suggestions some time this weekend. I need my phone to work 100% as I am traveling so maybe Sunday I will try again.
I followed all of your suggestions and redownloaded the ROM, installed RA Recovery, cleared all data, cache, and dalvik several times, and reflashed the ROM.
I restored my apps and data using MyBackup Root and it took over 2 hours! I opened my alarm app and... reboot. Back to the same old reboot over and over.
I think I'll just go back to the stock ROM and remove the bloatware and call it good.
Theirs one obvious thing nobody mentioned. Google how to check a md5 sum do that with every rom you download and if it does not say its right don't flash, redownload and check again. Also restore as little as possible through mybackup and if you are restoring things like your alarms or any system settings don't.
As for good roms with quick settings like r2r going green lightning fast, or unleashed r6.
Ps I would suggest useing r2r superwipe before whatever you may flash n wipe both caches a few times first it might help

Also id recommend copying all contents of SD card to computer and wipe SD card then reload everything back onto SD card. I know sometimes the SD card can become corrupt and cause bootloops and random reboots
I checked the Md5 sums of everything I downloaded. I only restored my apps, text messages, and Bluetooth pairings. I even ended up buying a new, larger SD card yesterday and I formated and used it when I flashed.
This afternoon I flashed my latest backup of my stock ROM and used Titanium Backup to removed all of the Sprint bloatware. My phone is running very fast now with over 110 MB of internal memory available so I can't complain.
Maybe next weekend I will try another ROM but for now I need me phone to be working since I do not have a land line and I rely on my phone for work.
You said this happened before you ever rooted? Maybe its a factory defect if u got a.warrenty I would suggest unrooting and sending to them.

I got my original Evo on launch day and it had the random reboot problem from the first month. It was very infrequent at first but after a few months it got worse and worse. Finally, one day it started rebooting in a loop while I was at work. I took it directly to a Sprint store where they ordered me a replacement. The replacement has been great. It reboots on it's own once in a great while (maybe once every two months).
This seems to be very common. The reboots I got when I flashed the Evo Classic ROM were as bad as my original phone was just before it got replaced. The difference is that is definitely software based because flashing the stock ROM fixes it. The reboots I had on my original phone happened when the phone heated up randomly and were not fixed by a factory reset.

My girlfriend had the same issue with her second evo. She had the Black Evo at first than a friend of hers swapped her to the white Evo. She had the issue only on the white evo. She ended up having to replace the phone with another one. That one did the same thing for awhile so we thought it was an issue with an app she was running. I have the black evo and made a exact copy of her phone. I never once had the issue.
Sprint ended up replacing it agian with a line that something was different in the white Evo from the black one that was causing the issue. Ever since that day she hasn't had a problem with her phone. I just rooted and did her rom last night.
My question would be does the phone get hot? Or feel hot? The reason I ask is that the phones processor may restart the phone (in effort to cool it down) randomly. That is something to consider.
Glad I got the black

I kept getting the same thing when i flashed classic. I went back to shooter port which runs butter smooth and is fantastic looking with sense 3.0.
DO THIS TO TRY TO GET EVERYTHING WORKING (no more soft reboot)
-connect your sd card to your computer
-copy contents to your computer for a backup
-copy PC36IMG.zip to your sd card make sure it is on root of sd card(attached to message)
-disconnect usb cable then pull battery
-enter bootloader (vol down + power)
-when it asks if you want to install the new update select yes
-after thats done pull the battery again
-enter bootloader then select recovery ( you should now have amonRa 2.3 )
-flash zip from sd card (vrsuperwipe.zip *thanks to virus*)
-go back and go into wipe menu, wipe dalvik-cache, wipe sdext, battery stats, and rotate settings.
-go to partition sd card and partition for a gingersense rom if you have not done so already. (0 swap, 1024 or 2048 ext2, remaining FAT)
ABOVE PROCESS COULD TAKE SOME TIME, MAKE SURE YOUR SD CARD IS MOSTLY EMPTY BEFORE YOU DO THIS (ONLY HAVE PC36IMG.ZIP ON IT)
-select usb mass toggle and connect to computer
-copy over your choice of rom, i suggest the shooter e3d port by team nocturnal.
-flash rom
-go to flash zip from sd card again this time select TeamNocturnal folder and pick a kernel to flash (try all of them if you would like, some phones run better with different kernels. mine runs well with HDMwIn kernel.
-wipe dalvik-cache one more time and you are ready to reboot with no more random restarts hopefully.
good luck - and please hit the thanks button if any of this works for you

Hey everyone.
I know there's a couple other threads with this problem, but none of them included their last_kmsg files. It took a bunch of tries before I could stay booted up long enough to grab it, but I have one.
I'm getting a significant number of reboots on my EVO. Like almost unusable at times. It seems fairly random, although there's a slight suspicion is has something to do with the GPS. Maps has been a crash-cause before and the most recent bout last night was brought on by foursquare. (the annoying part is I had just used 4sq fine 30 minutes prior with no issues. Then, booted it up, refreshed locations and my phone was unusable for hours.)
I've done all the standard things. Fix permissions, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe data/system, reinstall the latest CM7 build (update-cm-7.0.2.1-Supersonic-signed.zip), wipe cache, wipe dalvik. I entered my google account info but told it not to sync anything. It is now rebooting less than a minute after it starts up. I haven't installed any apps at all since this most recent wipe/reload of CM7. It reboots with and without the sd card installed.
I'm at a loss here and getting incredibly frustrated. Many replies say it's as easy to fix as wipe everything and re-do it. Obviously something abnormal is screwed up on my phone and I can't figure it out.
Here's the pastebin from this morning: pastebin.com/Ki7H8bH3 (Crap, I don't post here enough to be allowed to post links. Just add the http part to that.)
And then when I got awake enough, I did another complete wipe/reload. The rebooting is even worse now, it's taken me almost an hour to get to a point I can install es explorer to try and pull another file. And when I did, it was blank.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
1. Go to the link below and download the PC36IMG.zip file for amon RA v2.3 and place it on the root of your SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
2. Shutdown your device.
3. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. There will be a short pause and then a few lines of text will scroll across the screen. Afterwards, the bootloader will automatically detect the PC36IMG.zip file and prompt you to install it. Follow the easy prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into your new recovery. Go to the backup/restore menu and make a nandroid backup of your current setup.
4. Now go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it EXCEPT the SD card.
5. Go to the flash menu and flash the rom you desire to flash.
On many occasions, reflashing the recovery solved rebooting issues and hopefully, it will solve yours.

Hi dougjamal,
Thanks for the reply.
I've made some progress. Last night I had done a majority of what you suggested, with installing amon RA. I've also just formatted my entire sd card just to be sure.
I haven't tried wiping things other than cache and dalvik, so I'll try that.
My progress I mentioned is that I had CM7 up and running until I flashed a new kernel and gapps in there. So I guess I'll just stick with the stock CM7 kernel, try your extra wiping and see how that works.
Thanks!

Ugh, it's the randomness of this that has me so frustrated. I thought I had a good install again, I left it sit on the "touch the android" screen for a few minutes and it stayed on. Made it through the setup process ok. I allowed the setup to "auto-download" a handful of the google apps it asks if you want. Once they got to about 38%... boom, restart.
So I did another toooootal wipe and I'll manually install those apps one by one. We'll see...

Don't rule out a corrupt download. If you have the time, download both Salvage-Mod 1.2.1 and the gapps zip from http://www.salvage-mod.com/node/4. If you like CM7, you may like Salvage-Mod. It is pure gingerbread. If you decide to flash it, see whether or not you get bootloops with it.

I re-downloaded CM7 this morning thinking that might be the issue, but it hasn't seemed to help. I'll give a different rom a try probably, maybe there's something other than CM7 I'd be content with.
Whelp, I downloaded SalvageMod and their gapps. Wiped everything, installed salvage, installed gapps, rebooted.
I got through set-up, was ok for a couple minutes, then as I was going into my contacts to see if they had sync'd yet... reboot.
This makes me think this can't be a ROM issue.
Any other ideas?
Does the same thing happen when you run a stock (or close-to-stock) rom? Main reason I ask is that this might actually be some sort of hardware problem, but one of the best ways to test for that is to be running on stock software. I wouldn't necessarily suggest flashing an RUU to get to the latest official release, but there are stock rooted roms out there that you could try.
You probably went with CM specifically to get away from Sense and the default HTC stuff (that's most people's reasons anyway), but if you flash a stock rom and it's still rebooting like that then I'd say chances are REALLY good that it's hardware and that you'd have grounds for getting a replacement phone (just remember to unroot first.)
And if it stops randomly rebooting on you then you'll have at least narrowed things down a bit.

Hey jesuspgt,
I haven't tried that yet. I'll look around for a rooted stock ROM later and give that a shot.
My current status is back to uncertainty. At the moment, my evo has been sitting here fine, not rebooting, for the past hour or two. It's still the Salvage ROM I first installed (i.e. I haven't reinstalled it since it rebooted). Now I haven't really used it any, so it might go to hell as soon as I do that, but for now, it's on and only had that one (maybe two, I can't keep track...) initial reboot.
That's what makes it tricky to diagnose. I know using any custom ROM runs the risk of loosing stability and all ROMs probably produce a reboot here and there. Tough to tell if it's just a "comes with the territory" type of reboot or an actual problem.
Even though I'm sure there's some CM features I'll miss, maybe Salvage is my answer.
Thanks!
*sigh* Well I decided to try using some apps and guess what... reboot.
All I was doing was trying to play a game of Androminion, which is about as basic and not-tasking as possible, so I can't imagine that's what crashed things.
The only thing I can think of that you *may* need to do is reflash your hboot and/or your baseband, PRI & NV from within recovery. You can download it from the link below.

Excellent, I'm going to try that. My hboot is still 0.93!
Hey dougjamal,
Just wanted to drop an update. I know how annoying it is to help someone out and never hear how things ended up!
Who knows what combo helped, but I'm fairly stable now. After updating my hboot, I flashed to Sprint Lovers, did the ##GPSCLRX# trick and then flashed to the latest nightly of CM7 (63 I believe). Only one or two crashes and one bootloop since then.
Of course, as luck would have it, a new problem showed up in the form of a dead spot on my touch screen. Right about where the "Clear" button is for notifications, that entire strip across the phone won't respond to touch. I was hoping it was a nightly issue, but I switched to a different rom and the issue was still there. Looks like it's going in for a warranty claim after-all!
Thanks for all your help

Posting here since I cannot yet post to the actual ROM forum.
I'm running the Synergy ROM, RC1 and have a couple of issues. First though, thanks to the DEVs for all of their time and efforts, this looks to be a very good ROM!
I've been through most of the 200+ pages on the ROM's thread and did not see any information that may help (except turning off auto rotate of the home screen), but it's possible I missed.
The main issues I have are slow response issues. They are:
Slow response when I pull down the navigation bar.
Slow response when hitting one of the soft buttons (i.e., the + button to launch the app specified by the settings in Rosie).
Very slow response when I come out of a game that was in landscape mode. It takes a couple of seconds for the screen to switch from landscape back to portrait (after flipping the phone to portrait) and then another few seconds for it to put all the icons back on the home screen (home screen is blank when I come out of the game). I did turn auto rotate off and that has helped, but was wondering why there was such slow response without it.
Google apps such as Maps and Calendar that are started by another application, but do not shut down the starting app exists. This, of course, drains the battery and was not an issue on the stock rom.
When I flashed the rom, I did do a factory reset and erased all other caches. My apps and app data (not system data) were restored via TB.
I have also frozen the following apps via TB:
Flash
All live wall paper apps
Stocks
Flickr
FM Radio
News
Stocks
Smoke & Visualization Wallpapers
Voice Dialer
Voice Search
Thanks!
Mike

Absolutely correct. On top of this, the other reason you may be seeing slow response would be the fact that this is a very large rom, and takes up more space in your usable memory than most roms. What I have done to *somewhat* alleviate this issue when I'm running the synergy rom is to move all of the apps that I can (except for those that I use widgets from) to the SD card.
Just my recommendation

My thought was that when restoring an app, such as WSOP Texas Hold'em, I also wanted to restore the data so it restored games won, amount of money, etc.
Is that data what you are saying I should lose when flashing new roms?
Thanks,

Quite a few of my apps are on the SD card. I have 313MB free on the internal storage. Should that be enough to reduce some of the lag.

I tried doing a recovery through bootloader, but it wont let me move down from fastboot. Did I just brick my phone or is there any other way to get past this screen? can i plug my sdcard into the computer and delete this boot animation and if so, where would I find it? If you can boot into recovery, you did not brick your phone.
I've had this problem before and I don't even use Titanium. I also had plenty of free space on internal. Ram never seems to free up though. It's the strangest thing.

Does anyone else have issues with anything that requires data syncing (Facebook, Twitter, SMS, etc) stopping unexpectedly? It seems to happen at around 30% battery and the only way I've consistantly stopped the problem is to wipe and reflash Synergy Rom.
Any ideas?
Yea Idk what's going on with it after about an hour I would get android.process has stopped and needs to force close. I can't even use any app as that constantly pops up. Great ROM but unusable at this point.
Did you do a complete wipe before you installed it. Most of the issues I have seen arise because a complete wipe has not been performed. If you like the rom, do a complete wipe (factory, partition and dalvik) and reflash it.

This is after a full wipe, twice. Once the battery gets to a certain point, everything starts crashing and never recovers no matter what I do. Battery pull, full charge, cold restart. Nothing works.
Edit: I've also noticed that the GPS is locked on and I cannot shut it off.

Yea I also did a full wipe two different times. I didn't notice it happening once the battery gets to a point I just know that after an hour or so of use it was unusable.
1. If you use DualRomX2 would that possibly speed it up? Because doesnt it install Roms on EMMC?
2. Im also really frustrated by the slow response on alot of things like right rosie button and notification pulldown.
3. Video recording for me is just awful. Im not sure about actual quality but the framerate for sure is horrible. I compared a video i shot on stock and with Synergy and there is a HUGE difference. Synergy video being much worse.
Great Rom just plenty of little annoyances.
Synergy ROM loading issue
Flashed Synergy ROM last week and was very impressed. However, saw where 3.0 Sense items were missing and realized after reading several other posts that the carousel +widgets.zip should have been loaded with the ROM. So I reloaded the ROM and widgets through AMON-RA Recovery (Followed all of the original instructions I had followed the first time I loaded the ROM). Everything looked fine until I rebooted the system. Now Synergy ROM start-up screen loops over and over. At this rate the fill battery I started with will run out, and I'm not sure what will happen at that point.
Anyone have any suggestions for this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Options:
a) Pull your battery, boot into recovery, format data/wipe cache/dalvik cache/format boot/format system, & flash a different rom.
b) Pull your battery, boot into recovery, format data/wipe cache/dalvik cache/format boot/format system, flash Synergy again, reboot.
c) Pull your battery then turn on your phone like normal.
d) Pull your battery then boot into recovery, wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache, then boot into rom.
Edit: I don't use Amon_Ra, when I refer to "recovery" I was referring to CWM. Hopefully someone with experience comments in regards to Amon_Ra recovery.
Yeah I don't have too many issues with it... last night it got kinda squirrely so I fixed permissions in recovery and re-flashed the Warm Theme without wiping any data, it's been all good ever since.
The ROM is my daily driver... I really do think that these issues are app-related. There is something that certain apps do that this ROM is not built for, I'm just not sure what it is. It's been real good to me overall though, battery life and all.

b) Pull your battery, boot into recovery, format data/wipe cache/dalvik cache/format boot/format system, flash Synergy again, reboot.
c) Pull your battery then turn on your phone like normal.
d) Pull your battery then boot into recovery, wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache, then boot into rom.
Edit: I don't use Amon_Ra, when I refer to "recovery" I was referring to CWM. Hopefully someone with experience comments in regards to Amon_Ra recovery.

SlimSnoopOS, as it turned out I pulled the battery and rebooted into Recovery after a few hours, but thanks for the direction. These were the exact things I did. The reason I used AMON-RA instead of CWM is that Synergy says in a number of places that it only loads with AMON-Ra (and I'm a coward!),
Awesome, glad everything is functional again!
Hey everyone,
So this is my last ditch effort to attempt to save my device. I would really prefer not to perform another warranty exchange given that I am not under insurance, but I'm afraid I have no choice.
My phone was rooted and I was using Darkside without issues, as I had been for the past two weeks. I am always careful when I flash roms and I made sure to follow every possible protocol. That's the background information.
My battery life was running at approximately 6 percent yesterday and I sent a text message as normal, and it was stuck at sending. I tried turning wireless data off from the toggles in the pull-down and it was unresponsive. When I went to Wireless Network in the settings option, my phone rebooted. Once it started up again, my service would not come back, and the phone would continually bootloop once it got past the traditional "media scanner running", etc. My window of opportunity to do anything was really slim.
I charged my phone to see if it made a difference, but it didn't. Tried with my SIM card removed and it still bootlooped. I was able to get to CWM from the advanced power menu before it rebooted again and I fixed permissions and cleared cache and dalvik. Now the phone wouldn't even get past the boot animation before rebooting.
I put the phone into download mode and reverted back to stock using Odin. The phone now got past the boot animation in stock mode, but was unable to find service and after about 10 seconds fell into the same bootloop pattern. I tried removing the SD card but that didn't help either. Using Odin again, I reflashed recovery, followed by root and tried reinstalling a rom through CWM (I have only used regular CWM, not the touch version) with a superwipe to ensure a clean flash. Once again, it wouldn't make it past the boot animation before bootlooping. I reverted back to stock using Odin, and this is where I stand.
I have tried all traditional methods to salvage the phone and, for the life of me, I cannot understand what happened. The only thing I notice is that regardless of how long the phone stays on before rebooting, it is never able to find service. It's like the radio or modem broke and the phone has no other choice but to restart forever. But reflashing the stock UVKL1 should also reflash the proper modem and radio, right?
Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions (aside from the typical reverting to stock) as to how I might be able to stop it? I searched but haven't been able to find a situation quite like this one. Thanks in advance for your help.
Really sorry to hear about your problem. Assuming the 2.3.6 stock image you flashed via Odin is the one provided by Przekret and that that didn't work, then I'd try one or both of these two longshots to try to clear possible corruption problems in either the kernel or modem spaces:
For each of the following wipe cache and Dalvik cache in CWM before flashing and again wipe Dalvik afterwards and also fix permissions:
1) Format system (do this 3x) under mounts & storage in CWM. Flash the standalone Darkside kernel X v1 final immediately after flashing, e.g., the current Darkside rom. (You'll need to wipe data, too, if not coming from a Darkside rom. Do not do any Superwipe - neither the standalone version nor using a flag.)
2) Flash the KID modem (do this 3x). Both Odin- and CWM-flashable versions are available. (You can always flash back to KL1 if the problem is fixed.)
Hope this is clear. It's late! These are both things that have helped get my phone out of troubles, though not as bad as yours. Good luck!

Also if u used the one from przekret then I'm almost positive that Odin package flashes the new radio too. If memory serves me right. Op let us know what happened
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. I'm on the phone with T-Mobile, I see no other solution but to get it exchanged under warranty and it's not getting here until March 15th, according to the representative. I suppose I'll just use a replacement phone in the meantime. It's just really weird and frustrating... I could understand a bad flash or something similar, but I followed every step accurately as I always have and everything was working just fine until it randomly decided to die without warning.
Well since you're getting another one anyways I would continue trying to fix this one, just in case you come up with a solution and for another worst case scenario for your new phone.

Forgive me for asking, but what is the EFS folder?
Hey guys. I just updated to Wicked Sensations 1.2 from 1.1. I used 1.1 for a few weeks and loved it, naturally I wanted 1.2 when it came out and I read the changelog. So I downloaded it, put it on the ext SD card. Booted to Clockwork Mod Recovery. I did a Nandroid backup. Then I wiped data 3 times, wiped Dalvik cache 3 times, and then installed from zip file. The install went great. I rebooted after it was done and the rom launched fine. I went through the initial setup and restored my Nova Home Screen settings. Then I went to try out the included Wifi Tether app. I launched it, it asked for root access, I granted it. Something didn't work as it was initializing, so I closed it and rebooted the phone, just to make sure all of it's processes were killed and my normal wifi would work normally. On reboot, the phone decided it needed to "Upgrade Apps". So I waited about an hour and it never left that screen. It didn't show me any sort of progress like it had before either when it optimized apps for Jellybean coming from ICS. So I popped the battery out. Now I'm doomed. Stuck on the boot screen with the "SAMSUNG" text with the animated glow effect. I also can't seem to get it into recovery mode to restore any of my backups.
Any thoughts? I'm fairly new to this so don't rule out dumb mistakes. Also, I noticed in the Wicked Sensations 1.2 instructions that I could have upgraded without doing a full data wipe, but it said to do a full wipe and clean install if you had any trouble with the upgrade, so I don't think that is the cause of my problems. Do I need to turn to Odin?
You have a soft brick since you can get up the boot logo screen....time to bust out Odin to save the day.

Thanks a bunch. I wasn't sweating too bad since I could turn it off and on and see a spark of life in it. Thanks for the link too. I'll confirm success or failure later tonight after a good few hours drive back home.
That fixed it for me. Thanks again.
So I'm having a problem I can't seem to fix.
I'm rooted, have been running the stock everything but with a few tweaks and some bloat removed. Everything works great but I am hoping to improve battery life. So I researched a few ROMs and pick a couple to try. I can flash them just fine with no problems, get all my apps back and set up with no problems. and I can use the phone all day just like normal.
Now the problem: if ever I have to restart for some reason, or even after I make a nandroid back up, when it restarts and boots up I eventually get several messages where processes are one by one stopping. until the phone is useless and froze up.
So it goes through 10 or more of these:
Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped
Unfortunately, the process android.process.phone has stopped
etc, etc,etc
I have tried everything I could find on here to fix, but it seems all fixes are for a single process failing. This happens to me on all Roms I have tried, but I am just wanting to run Sonic. Even if I restore the nandroid I get the messages. If I factory reset or restore my kid-of-stock backup I am fine. If I start over and reflash a clean Rom I can set up and use but as soon as I restart it happens again. Sometimes when restarting I get a message about android updating but can't figure out how to stop that from happening.
Thanks in advance for any help!!! This is very annoying.
Are you doing full wipes and factory reset? If you are doing this between each flash then it sounds like you are restoring bad data into your apps.

Try re-flashing the latest Gapps and seeing if that will help.
It has done when I've had the same problem before.

I thought the same thing so I tried without putting back in any apps. And still happened. And if I flash Sonic with TB it does it right away when I get booted up for some reason.

Thanks, I'll try to find the latest Gapps now and report back if it helps out. But I'm not real familiar with the Gapps part so it may take some searching to figure out what theya re for Sonic Rom if it matters the rom.
This is the reason why I do not do any backup.. Most stuff on my phone is not important enought to require a back up.. If I have issues, I just reinstall the rom and my apps from the market.. I have only reinstalled my current rom once, and that is because I was not able to change my current prl...

Sounds like you need to do a FULL Wipe before you Flash. Also make sure your Downloading the Rom over WiFi, or Hardline.

I have been doing a full factory reset, wipe system, wipe cach and dalvic. I downloaded the Roms onto my computer and transferred them to sd card. It happens for all ROMs except the stock backup I made.

Do not restore anything with TB whatsoever and I can assure you it will work. There is corrupt data somewhere.

The process I use for Flashing Roms is the same one I've always used. It's the one that's in my Sig. I'll also relink, in case your on the mobile. I have used it for a very long time now. It avoids a lot of the hassles of a bad flash.

Thank You All
Thank you all for your help!!!
So far I have managed to flash the rom and reboot several times with no issues.
I have only had this GS3 for a week now and I feel I can finally play with some roms and see what I like. I usually find one I like and stick with it. On my EVO Shift I used the same rom for 2 years.
Here is what I did for anyone that may have same problem:
Wiped everything, per-normal.
Loaded ROM.
Loaded a few of the apps I wanted to keep some settings for (like GO Launcher and Handcent) using Rom Toolboxes App manager.
I then rebooted to see if I had any problems... none.
Used Rom Toolbox to install just the apps and no data for my other 50+ apps I wanted to keep.
Made Nandroid backup, which forced reboot... no problems.
Installed Titanium Backup, this is where I was nervous because I thought it might be that app causing problems with asking about new ID and such. Installed just 2 apps that I wanted to keep data for that Rom Toolbox for whatever reason didn't have, maybe I didn't have a recent backup. 2 apps were Tasker and GO Bookmark widget. When asked to change ID I selected "later" and after restoring 2 apps I imediatly deleted TB.
Reboot to see if I got errors... none
Setup all settings and tweaks I wanted.
Made Nandroid backup... no issues yet
I then deleted all TB backups I had on SD card figuring one was the culprit.
I am still nervous to re install TB but at least as of now I have a working nandroid to revert to so after a couple days I will reuse it.
As of now I have had no issues what so ever... and I can tell battery life on this Sonic rom is much better.
Glad your all sorted out . I do not think that Titanium Backup the App itself is was causing the issues. Although I do recognize somethings that could. Restoring GoLauncher with settings Data could cause issues. Especially from one Rom to the next. Hopefully your not trying to restore the Data settings you had on the Shift. Also with Handcent, I would not restore settings across different Roms.

I had the exact same problem with a reoccurring message that would flash on and off every second or so. I did both a data restart then a reboot of the android software by pushing the down volume button then holding the power button. When the LG logo appeared I released both buttons and followed the instructions for an android factory reboot. Apparently it is the SIM card. The android com.android.phone communicates with the SIM card and allows calls and texts to be sent and received using the android software. My SIM card got damaged somehow and could not receive the call from the android app com.android.phone. I had to buy a new SIM card for ten dollars and had my stored files on the SIM moved to the new one and no more problems. Telus and Bell move the files to the new SIM for free i'm sure other major service providers offer the same free service.
@pokey2000 Thanks for that info. But this is the Sprint S3 section. And the user you are replying to has a Sprint S3. Sprint phones are Cdma and do not have a removable sim card.
