[Q] Anyway to get the sense 3.0 mail and weather app? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

i absolutely love the effects and videos of the weather, they were beautiful.
as for the sense mail, i personally like because it was nice, cool looking and easy to use.

No, they rely on the sense framework. Someone would have to port a sense rom over to this phone for it to work.
Maybe now that sense is supposed to be open source there's a shot at that happening, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not sure what you are looking for exactly for weather, but the videos on the new BeWeather are pretty slick: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bellshare.beweather&hl=en

Rom request

First off excuse my ignorance, as I am not a developer.
the thing I hate most about Sense is the Contact interface, facebook and google voice in particular. Now I know google voice isn't a part of sense but thats kinda the point.
Facebook for sense is a good idea done bad. All the mundane features are hidden and obscure. Also when you use google voice, half the sense features don't integrate and just make things feel cumbersome.
Is it possable to make a true "vanilla" Rom at least when it comes to contacts and facebook. Can we get the android facebook to do the contact integration like the Nexus and can the sense contact interface be completely discarded?
I assume is is vary difficult since it hasn't been done yet but I wanted to request it just in case it can be done
People are working on vanilla 2.2 and2.1 roms as we speak. Should have more stable versions soon.

so these roms would have no sense it it at all? The reason I ask is because I have tried a few roms that say they are Vanilla but as soon as you go to a contact, the sense interface is still used.
try the CyanogenMod Test Rom.
No sense at all. It's nice to see it totally plain, but there are still enough bugs in the rom that I went back to stock to wait for a future release. But I still recommend you check it out for a day or two.

I tried it last night. Facebook still uses the HTC sense to sync contacts (witch is broken and I didn't try to push the friendstreem.apk) and I am pretty sure it had the sense finger slide in the contacts

You may have tried Ozzeh's or Jager's "vanilla" roms (which still have some sense left) but if it had any sense in it you didnt try Cyanogen. His is completely free of sense.

I may be wrong about the contacts menu but the facebook sync was definitely missing from the android app witch lead me to believe I would have to push friendstreem.apk to fix it but I didn't try so I may be wrong

OK, that makes sense then.
Because yes, right now the only way to get Facebook sync to work is to use friend stream....but that doesn't mean that the ROM has sense UI in it. It means you REALLY want Facebook sync.

ya, it may sound minor but if you use the friendstreem.apk, it doesnt show there thumb mail pics in the android quick dial links, at least it didnt for me on another rom

ya once that gets more of the bugs worked out its definitely more my style. Assuming a good 2.2 rom doesn't beat it to the punch.
I find my self still playing around with my droid every night because I really like 2.2 vanilla and my good home run derby account is on there LOL
Use yetirom, absolutely no sense in that one

[Q] HTC SENSE CLOCK WITH FLIPPING NUMBERS.. ripped

hi guyz .. i just saw this post today surfacing on the top of our forum...here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785645
since the clock is ripped is it possible for this sense flipping clock to be ported to our samsung galaxy s????
Omg pleeeeeeeeeeeaseeeeeee
I doubt it...... you need sense and it's a little limited and convoluted.
Why not just install something like Fancy Widget or Weather Widget?

i have been using fancy widget for a long while now.. i agree there is not much difference ..... but we are here to get the best and the most for our devices... if we start being satisfied in everything then this world would come to an end ..
satisfied-----> no development
no development -----> boring world

i can agree to that expect the last part
it's actually quite comfortable pace and quiet, until some one stirs up the water again.
specially all those false alarms at bugs and problems some make it out to be a big deal when it's just a tiny issue.
Now back on topic, I do like Fancy Widget better, is nicer cooler, softer, and those touch spots are configurable as a soft menu to launch apps, which is perfect !
You need the htc framework to support their widgets.
Alternative ?
- Well considering the "scrolling/animated widget" is open source (by koxx if i recall), someone with experience in java/time on their hands could come up with such a widget.

Agreed on the framework, that's why I mentioned Sense being needed.
As to someone else creating a widget, whatever they create they would have to be very careful as other widget developers have had to either terminate their widget or alter so as not to infringe HTC's patent.
in order to install this last version of Htc Clock (from sense 1.6 of desire hd) you need to flash the up.zip on a SENSE rom, if u read the entire post he explains how... bye

Anyone have a clock for AOSP that works like the sense one?

I have been looking for a clock that is like the stock sense one that has alarms and timer and stop watch all included haven't been able to find one for a AOSP rom would like to find a sense based clock that works with AOSP rom that has all the goodies with it. Only thing thats stopping me from wanting to use a AOSP rom all the time. I like the senseless roms but its a pain to find something that may work until it boot loops sucks. Anyone know of any i have checked out the clock forums on here but all they seem to be is fancy clock widgets. So can anyone point me into the right direction. Thanks I am pretty familiar with APK files..

I'm using the Weather & Toggle widget on my hero and using it asa my EVO comes in. It's almost exactly like the stock one and there's skin downloads to match it exactly. I paid for mine because it's worth the couple bux bud, seriously. I don't buy many apps, just help out the devs but this one was a no brainer for AOSP roms.

I'd use AOSP roms in a heartbeat if I could get this too. Can never find a keyboard as good as the HTC one either.

Ya i am likeing cm7 tho the keyboard sucks its a pain to use. The clocks out there are not as good sense based one. Hope someone can fix that. The roms to have dried up not to many people are making anything new. I like evo based roms not ports. If your really want a port go get the phone in my opinion. Im like konies rom elite 3 battery life isnt good on stock kernel the clock doesnt suit me trying to replace it.

Sense replacements
I am on ASOP now and have really missed a lot of Sense stuff since switching to Cyanogen 6 a few months ago.
I have used a number of stopwatch apps and don't really like any of them.
I am using TouchPal, beacuse I don't like the stock dialer, but am not crazy about TouchPal.
I am using SwiftKey as a keyboard, which I do really like a lot.
I use Beautiful Widget's: Super Clock. Its the best thing next to sense. Plus you can change up the skins faster than you do your socks!
Also I use Swift Keyboard. It looks similar to the touch input plus its crazy convenient!

Ehh, I just want the time and an alarm lol. W&T widget defaults to the stock clock, which has an alarm so that's cool. The KB is garbage though you're right. Many months ago when I was on Sense roms with my Hero I was using the AOSP-voice keyboard but now I'm on Better Keyboard 8. My EVO should be in tomorrow and I'm guessing that just the meire size of the phone should make ANY keyboard easier to use lol. The Hero landscape is just a little too small for my big fingers.

Check out HD Widgets. It's on app store for a small amount but is well worth it and it looks great. It has lots of clock widget sizes and styles, with or without weather and is highly customisable.

[Q] Weather APP

I've been noticing that my weather app for my current location always seems to be a few degree's off ...it always reads lower than the posted weather from the National Weather service. Does anyone know where it pulls it's info from? And is there a way of having it pull info from a different location?
BTW
Evo 4g running Fresh Evo 4.0.0.4
What weather app? The stock Sense one?
If so, I don't think so. You can try downloading a different app that supports the provider you wish to use. Where do you want it to pull info from?
One of my choices is a local weather service in my area that "most probably" have the correct weather info....I live in south Florida and the weather down here can change from one minute to the other... I would like a service that was more dependable. I know I might be looking for something that doesn't exist (yet) ...Thanks for the response
WoW so you want a app that tracks your weather sec by sec..?
Okay, well I use Beautiful weather which i bought from the Market
By far the most respectable weather app i have ever used
sooo many customizable weather situations its pretty f*cking cool!
I am staying in Osaka Japan and it is soo exactly perfect i never question it
Of course you have to choose what Weather Service you want to use in Options, Weather Service
but I use google and its much much more accurate then my girls IPhone4
That's exactly what I'm looking for (Hoping it has the UI as Sense) ...What's the name of the APP?

I finally broke down and and bought beautiful widgets because I wanted a smaller weather/clock widget so I could fit more on my home screen. It works well and is HIGHLY customizable. The weather is also more accurate because you can choose what source to use, google or accuweather.

Notifications in Lockscreen?

I've been using my iphone for the last few months but have recently decided to go back to my trusty old HOX. The problem is I've forgotten how to get facebook and twitter notifications to pop up on the lockscreen as they appear in real time. I can't even remember if they ever did do this, but I'm sure I remember something along those lines.
In ios7 the tweets and fb conversations pop up and light up the screen so you can just glance at your phone to see what's going on without actually turning it on. Is it possible in android? I noticed the social networking lockscreen option has disappeared, this might be what I was thinking of.
I'm using sense ARHD latest version, would consider flashing AOKP/CM to get this feature if it's possible.
Thanks.

Thanks, they are already syncing I just want the notification to come up on the lock screen.
I thought maybe there was a setting somewhere I'd forgotten about but now I don't think it's possible, at least not natively.
I might look into 3rd party lockscreens. If I find a solution I'll post here in case anyone else is interested.
Thanks for the help guys
DashClock (and the appropriate plugins) should be able to do that.

If you use ViperX rom, you can add applications on a one-by-one basis in their tweaks for the lockscreen. It comes up a little differently than normal Productivity sense 5 alerts, but I think that should be more what you're looking for.
