[For DEV]Samsung Galaxy W I8150 kernel&platform source code - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hello!
I am an owner of Samsung Galaxy W i8150 and since there is no forum section for this phone yet, I've deceided to open a thread here. Since I'm not a developer, maybe I will become one, but my lack of time and knowlage doesnt help here.
So why I've created this thread? My goal is to find people, whou would develope some stuff for this phone, or at least help me to do it.
What this phone need is a recovery, so we need to port one, maybe CWM recovery would be the best choice. Next thing is a costum rom, preferebly CyanogenMod. I've already make a post there. So far nobody offered me any help or advice regarding that, but I'm an optimist .
We already have root access, that can be acchived with this tool, so this could speed things up.
I really don't know how to start porting recovery or cyanogenmod, so some advice, directions and links would really be appreciated. What I've managed to find is a kernel source code and platform soruce code, any one who is willing to help with this, can download this code HERE (it is a dropbox link, so if you can't download it just make a dropbox account).
I hope that someone who has developed some roms for andorid in past will buy this phone, will help with this project.
That's all folks
Have a nice day!

UPDATE!!!
Developer KezraPlanes has voulontered to port CyanogenMod 7.2.0 (Gingerbread 2.3.7) to this phone, which is a great news for Samsung Galaxy W owners. Next big thing will most probably come from well known developer arco68, he started porting(and we all hope he will continue after gettig his W back from the repair) CM 9 (Ice Cream Sandwich 4.x) on our phone. Lets show those two guys some support, moral or in "beers" ! Good luck guys!
For happy flashing of new roms that are coming to us you'll need a recovery, which you can find here, thanks to the developer raidzero! I think he would also apreciate your support !

I'm probably going to buy this phone, and if I do, I will definitely try to get CM going on it. I already maintain CM for two other phones, but as they're getting old and it's doubtful that ICS will work properly on them, I need something new to work on.

This is great to hear! I have this phone for a month now, and I'm very satisfied. I like it cause is fast enough, and it is not to big to carry it around in a pocket. I really hope that someone like you will buy the phone. I've installed linux on my PC just because I want it to try and port recovery, I think this is the first common step after rooting, cause we need recovery to flash custom rom. But my lack of knowlage on this area is to big for now.

I hope too to see development going further on this good phone.

Thanks for the support!

1st I've already voted for this nice device, thanks for the tip qzem
2nd I have not been able to read any good reviews of this phone yet, how is the battery life?
3) How does it feel in your hand (premium or cheap - feel free to elaborate and find a balance point view that I've not given you, hehe).
4) Could you do some benchmarking? Just to have an idea of how fast it is.
That would be my top 3 questions/request for this phone
Thanks for helping out.

2. Battery life is satisfing, with wifi on and my normal use(30-50 sms per day,few calls and internet browsing 20-40 min per day), phone usually last at least 50 hours.
3. Phone doesnt look cheap, but I eouldnt say premium either. It has nice design but it doesn't stand out the crowd. It fits very well in my hand, and it has a good grip with slightly rough back surface.
4. Now that is rooted I get in Quadrant the overall result somewhere around 1056. I can make more benchmarks and post it here if you like.

Good job! Where did you get these source codes? I sounds that the Exhibit II 4G is Galaxy W . Do you have the source codes of Exhibit II 4G ? I need root and unlock Exhibit II 4G. Thanks

Yes the Exhibit should have the same hardware and display, only different buttons. I've got she source code on this page. You have to Sign up first, than you can download the source code for wanted phone, if it is already up there. If you want to root your phone you should try Doomlord's tool which contains Zergrush rooting method. Link is in my first post.

For samsung galaxy W you have to search it by the name GT-I8150. I'm not sure whati is Exhibit II officiall name.

Well, I haven't got the device yet, but have already started working on a custom kernel.

Thats ia great. Two things you should implement is new frequency table so that we could try overclock it and support for interactive governor
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA App

Interactive is already in, along with some other stuff. Do you know what governor Samsung is using as default on the phone? From what I can see in the sources, they have set performance as the default.

Hm I really don't know what profile is using Samsung as default. Hey when you'll have your kernel ready, I can test it. One thing I'm not sure, how will I flash it since there is no recovery for this phone yet.

I'll work on that when I have the device, as I need access to it in order to retrieve partition layout and sizes.

I have swapped external SD (would be your 16 GB SD) with internal SD (the phone memory). This is done by changing /etc/vold.fstab so that your external (16 GB) SD card is mounted on /mnt/sdcard and I have mapped internal SD to be mounted as /mnt/sdcard/external_sd. I don't have the file to hand right now, but can post it later.

[Q] ICS on A101 AS WELL ?

Hello guys,
I'm new to this forum but I read it from time to time since a few months.
I own an Iconia Tab A101 that I already rooted and so far I haven't received the OTA update toward ICS probably beacuse I used a Stock Rom from Vache which is not a full stock rom.
I already found few ICS ROMs but as I use this tablet for my job, I don't want to mess up with it. So far it dosen't say it would work with an Iconia A101, but only a A100. Did anyone already tried it on the A101 ? (I can't aford to lose my 3G conection/driver as I use it everyday to send my jobs forms)
Is there any way I could upgrade toward ICS without losing my applications and datas ? (I can handle the root and adhoc/wpasuplicant issue later..)
I wish I could install/use Nandroid to get a full backup of my tablet before just in case.... Would you advise me to use that application ? How do I do that ?
I alreadytried to install CWM but failed to it. I probably did something wrong or in the wrong order.
Anyway thanks for your help ! I love this forum.
Best regards
Fabien

Acer didn't release ICS for A101 yet, so it's normal that you didn't receive OTA upgrade.
There is a leak of an old ICS build for A101 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25561591&postcount=6
I'm running it and it works fine. I just needed to delete and recreate APN, as the migrated one was disabled for some reason.
(P.S. You need to install all four update.zip from the archive in order. These are incremental and you cannot skip any.)
Thank you leomatt & smokku for you quick and clear answers. That's the spirit!
Thanks again,
Adrian
Thank you so much ! It worked like a charm.
Next step will be root (again), and adhoc support.
This may help:
1.Load Update1.zip onta a SD card. Rename it Update.zip. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
2. Press POWER and VOL- (the top vol button) and flash the ROM. The reboot will hang. Just power off and continue.
3. Repeat for the remaining updates, one at a time.
4. The final reboot will work and the ROM will be flashed. If error messages are encountered or constant rebooting is experienced, do a factory restart.
This worked for me and restored my Acer back to A101. (I had loaded ICS for A100 and lost 3g...I can't help fiddling with things I don't understand........

Hey. No need to thank me for telling you it even existed in the first place, that's perfectly OK.
For someone so utterly incapable of finding something so simple (seriously, third hit on a search), I suggest you don't even THINK about flashing it; you'll brick your tab.
Someday you'll get, that this forum is about people helping each other, not feeling superior to others.

i about an OFFICIAL rom, not a stock rom modified, or a leaked one, etc..
It would be great if you guys could CLEARLY say what is made for ?
If it's for A100, its for A100, A101 for A101, etc... as well as for which kind of rom it is made for, etc ?
For someone who is used to it, it's easy ! However, even for a newbie there is nothing about Android terminology ! The poor guy is lost and nothing makes sense to him/her.
For example : ROM means Read Only Memory (as oposed to Ram which is Random Access Memory (volatile memory) ) right !!!
Well if the ROM is the operating system, then you don't only read it as you also write in it and can replace its content as well ! However, Android (the os) is a ROM !! Even for someone coming from the IT world, it's kind of confusing ! ;-)
By the way, it says not to install Busybox, but I had to, after to fix some apps.
The wpa_suplicant file however doesn't fix the adhoc issue so far.
I'll get back to the old file in the meantime.

First of all, wrong section buddy, then i hate this kind of threads, there is no "best rom" there are diferent roms, its better if u try it by your self that way u can make a decision. IMO this kind of threads are disrespectful to the devs.
Look at the guide for the a100 in my sig, it has links for the current ROMs available. Current meaning updated.
There is no one best ROM, that's purely user choice, but here is a few you may want to try:
Flex reaper- Acer modded ROM with the Acer ring added, tons of flashable mods for the UI looks, works with the ezt20 kernel for OC and UV and debloated.
Green ICS - also modded Acer stock with a light theming and Acer ring, debloated. Also works with ezt20.
CM9 - under nearly continuous development this is what I would generally suggest as its theme engine allows easy theming without flashing and is, IMO, generally faster then Acer based. Has an OC kernel included but also works with ezt20. Available as nightlies in my sig and a beta release by the CM team.
Jelly time - was basically a proof of concept that I could get jellybean on the a100, however once CM10 began I stopped it in favor of working with CM10, may or may not be resumed.
CM10 - the latest and greatest, its nearly perfect already and I would suggest taking it for a spin to see how you like it.
Short summary of the current ROMs, its all user choice, flash and run whatever version for a couple says and see how you like them, make a backup then flash another and so on, then restore what you like best.

He's actually right. There are too many of these threads plus the answer is user-preference.
I don't understand why none of them can mount external sd card to /sdcard instead of /ext_sd? The internal storage of my A100 has been quickly filled up by 50+ apps. They all installed by default into /sdcard. and my sd card is almost empty.

Use the crossix mount swap method to use your external SD as internal and vice versa.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
The best ROM depends on what your looking for, and between there is what you do, ICS is probably your best choice for the majority of. things since a lot of stuff has issues with JB. Also, JB doesn't have flash so web browsing can be.... different... I prefer jelly bean because the speed, it is awesome how much smoother a and faster it is.

I know this workaround, it doesn't always work fine.
Is there a reason for A100 mount SD card to /ext-sd instead of /sdcard? 8GB is way not enough for heavy users.

Because every device defaults to internal SD as /sdcard, the name for external SD varies. Google sets it this way. Some aftermarket ROMs will set internal SD as emmc and external as /sdcard, it all depends on the ROM builder and if they choose this method or leave it default.

That was just a discussion thread... and now some people think that just because it can run on 512MB RAM they can install it on their phones straight away... If kitkat ever comes to the Arc/S it will take a while for it to become stable enough for daily use. Also, the drivers we use are old since there have been no updates. If you guys want kitkat running successfully on this device, these old drivers need to be integrated with the new software, which is very tedious. Mike is already going to drown under 4.2 and 4.3, adding another OS to the pile will place him under more stress.
Don't assume the work we developers do is simple, just because an update came out that meets the system specifications means it can run just by downloading and installing it in recovery. If you ever tried to create a ROM by yourself, you'll find out that a lot of work needs to be done, along with many user complains and flooding your development thread with useless posts. That's how messed up the user community is nowadays. Jader's UHD ROM thread is one example of how users interact with the developer.

I just point to that thread so he and anybody with the same question can see that it really going to depends on how google code it and how hard could be for the developers to bring that code to our devices...
I never declared that it will be a fact, but you have to admit that the 512 MB its a nice hope.

Yes, it's possible to port Android 4.4 for our device but it all really depends on if there will be any developer / developers who want to spend their time porting 4.4 for our device. Mike have started working on it for our devices, but we will see when or if he releases it or not.
I might see if I'm able to sync the sources, but the main problem on my end is that my PC is really bad and not suited for development.

Just as a suggestion, I'm currently using VanirAOSP and it's pretty good. All I've to say is that right now one should get the vanir_anzu_4.4.2.012814 version, as the latest, vanir_anzu_4.4.2.022314, has a few additional bugs. On the mentioned good version WiFi works, everything is fairly smooth and you're left with enough space to actually install the apps you want, which seems to be an issue on many roms due to Arc's small internal memory.. Only real problem's the default browser lagging terribly, but I hear that's a general issue? Anyway, for anyone interested in kitkat on Arc it's definitely worth checking out.

Tried it. Really cool ROM, some minor bugs but its OK
KitKat 4.4.2 AOKP and ART-runtime enabled
It is very well possible to use KitKat 4.4.2 on our phones. Even with ART-runtime enabled. I personally use AOKP (Android Open Kang Project)'s KitKat version, and I managed to get ART-runtime enabled and running very fast and smooth.
You can find the ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2624761
Of course you have to first install the kernel, which is given in the zip-file. Just unzip the kernel and Flashboot it to your device. Then go into CWM-recovery and go to Mounts and Storage and activate USB-mount. Locate the full AOKP-zip and place it on your SD-Card, as wel as the minimal Gapps for 4.4.2., found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857. Unmount the USB, and install the zip as usual through the menu for it. Then, after installing AOKP, install the minimal Gapps.
Reboot and let your device sit for a while, or play around with it a bit....
I proceeded with installing Mounts2SD from playstore, while before having prepared my class10 8 Gb sdcard into two partitions. One partition FAT32, size about 6Gb and one partition EXT2 size around 2 Gb. Move everything to SD-card through the menu of Mounts2sd, except Dalvik-cache. NEVER MOVE THIS!!! (Don't move dalvik-cache to SD...)
Reboot at least two times to let the script (Mounts2sd) settle in... After this I installed Pimp-my-Rom from playstore and activated the nav-bar and some other scripts to improve the experience. Also I odexed (after finishing all my modifications) the phone through this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527732
I then went to CWM-recovery through a reboot and made a full backup, which I advice you to do also, in case something goes horribly wrong.
Reboot to AOKP. As you can see, this ROM is awesome-fast beyond belief already. I had benchmarks in AnTuTu of around 6000, with NoFrills-CPU at 1401 Mhz. But, it can be faster if you choose to run ART-runtime instead of Dalvik. Be sure to remove all unwanted programs before switching to ART-runtime, because it'll take a lot of space in cache, and every program you don't need (system-programs that is) will reserve more space for ART.
Only and ONLY if your system is running smoothly on Dalvik, I advise you to go to your Phone-settings, (under Settings of course) and tap on 'Build-number' like 10 times. You will now become a developer. An extra menu will appear under Settings, where you can choose to run the ART-runtime library. Choose this and you will reboot.
Wait, wait and wait a long time for reboot. After initial booting everything has to be updated to ART-compiled apps. This will take a long time per app. Just wait and don't disturb your phone. If you get to the phone after booting, then you probably succeeded... You can check under the same settings-tab under Developer-options. If ART is selected, then you have it.
I strongly advice in case of mishaps regarding loss of network etc. to just reboot. Wait, wait and eventually you'll get there. Make a backup as soon as you have a stable working system under CWM-recovery.
I have been running stable ART under this AOKP-rom for about two weeks now and I'm really happy with it. Not only is the phone lightning-fast (6417 under AnTuTu, with CPU on my Arc LT15i on 1401 Mhz), but smooth as hell! Batterytime is amazing. This is as fast as it's gonna get! (I must have tried almost every ROM out there from stock 4.0.1 to 4.4.2...)
Hope you'll try and may it work for you too...!
(BTW my ultimate thanks to the guys from Open Kang Project!)
P.S. stock-browser is lagging... as usual under 4.4, but I use Dolphin and it is fast! Some toggles require reboot to function again. Some programs might fail you due to not being ready for ART. Facebook is a mess for instance, sometimes quitting unresponsice etc. Otherwise I have encountered no problems whatsoever.
Tried ION kernel and stuff and I can say that apart of one or two really minor bug the KK experience is just awesome and will be better within some months i suggest you to follow all the "Xperia Overlay" thing a I hope it gonna be amazing:laugh:

[Q] Phone no more recognized by the PC after installing ROM

Hi.
First of all, thanks for all you great people for working and developing for these phones.
Today, for the first time, I flashed my phone. Having android on Wave 2 feels great!
I installed CarbonRom but I'm not entirely satisfied with it and wanted to try to install some other ROM (like ZenDroKat, I heard good things about that one) and run into a problem. I noticed that my PC doesn't see the phone at all! There is no reaction, not sound when connecting the phone. I tried the front and the back usb-ports, and on our family laptop. The multiloader doesn't find the port either.
Although it did react in recovery mode (TWRP) and installed drivers for "Android Composite ADB Interface", whatever that is.
Or could I install a new ROM without trying to fix this?
Once i had a problem detecting my phone , i was so frustrated : what worked with me , maybe this sound silly but :
Does your phone charge with the USB cable :
if yes in mini USB port there is a tongue inside , trying raising it a little with a sharp metal
if no , maybe your cable is the problem .
between that and this , probable you can install Omni rom , by copying the rom to sdcard if you have external card reader , since you have already TWRP installed.
Thanks.
I did figure it out. Well, I didn't fix it on CarbonRom but I managed to install another ROM. The USB worked in Download Mode, so I just re-installed Bada and then installed ZenDroKat ROM. For now it seems to work fine.
Now, is there a way to delete your own threads?
I have Windows 8 on my computer, when I update my windows with connected phone it shows Acer updates in Microsoft update menu. I update all, and after my computer didn't recognize my phone. Then I delete Acer drivers and it recognize again

Yeah, I'm having issues with ZenDroKat. Namely, it often refuses it go out of sleep mode, I missed phone call due to that.
I'm going to try Omni then, thanks for advice. There are so many roms, it is hard to determine which one is better at a first glance.

Short development history: by Rebellos
The project has been started by Oleg in March 2011 - development progress has been made rapidly by him, however, he had been using JTAG Riff Box to make Wave oneNAND memory organisation the same like in Samsung Galaxy S (SGS) I9000 - phone with very similiar hardware to Wave. The problem is it's very expensive and advanced stuff. In the meantime mijoma found security hole in Wave's Bootloader3 (BL3) FOTA loading code and made PoC-exploit for that. That allowed me to create, with help of srg.mstr, mijoma and b.kubica, simple Badadroid bootloader, loading kernel zImage from moviNAND flash memory - this is where port has been made bootable on literally any Wave phone. However, oneNAND layout still remains untouched and by default kernel is configured to use SGS oneNAND partitions. So nbates66 and anghelyi put all their efforts into making this method of booting operatible. It succeed after few days and ShadowAS1 had released unofficial tutorial explaining how to bring up pre-alpha Android into S8500 device. The problem was that only 1 bootloader version was supported this time, mijoma came up with idea of making our FOTA bootloader capable of supporting alot of bootloaders - he created "BL Univ Boot FOTA". Oleg became very busy with his real life stuff so kernel development practically stopped. Currently I'm the most active kernel developer, altough I'm not so experienced as Oleg is and I'm learning from scratch so it goes very, very slow.
December 2011 - KB_Jetdroid contacted me and we started to work on Jet&Wave modem driver.
April 2012 - mikegapinski has joined the project to get things together and make first really working ROM.
9 April 2012 - Mike got ICS platform booting.
Mike has stopped maintaining platform so I took it over.
Oleg has finally got S8530 in his hands and made SCLCD driver for it. Praise him!
Both S8500 and S8530 versions are semi operatible. The most complicated, annyoing, and needed driver is Modemctl+RIL.
March 2013 - World's first working non-AT commands based RIL for non-Android phone has been released. Most of the implementation was done by KB_Jetdroid, me and Volk204, basing on opensource Replicant's RIL for Samsung Galaxy S.
April 2013 I finally fixed S8530 display driver.
September 2013 - we've got working microphone recording, and shortly after Tigrouzen found a proper patch fixing voice communication during calls.
22 September 2013 - we released first version capable of multicalls.
~~October 2013 - GPRS connections are working
Currently most of the core work is done.
We are working hard with Volk204 on RIL interface, doing small progress day by day.
en very brief : there was one team , that did all the work since the start ,"the Badadroid team" , Badaroid developed by Rebellos and Volk204 was a base for Omnirom ported by volk204 which he is the main developer now , and all those rom you see is basically noob roms , they copy the work of Volk204 , they are actually no developers in the first place, if Volk204 doesn't fix the bugs in his roms , their roms has them . i would recommend
Nand - use Omni rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800014
u wanna keep bada - Badadroid 4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609560
Hero355 is also a good one but he has own bugs and he isn't around much this days , work on it stopped http://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-tizen/bada-android/rom-carbonrom-s8500-s8530-t2840174
read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459391
Thanks, that's quite interesting.
It's amazing that you people are still developing for these phones. They are so outdated that I wouldn't have guessed that anyone bothered with them.

Why would anyone want to keep bada? Isn't the main reason to install android-based ROM to get rid of that awful system?

THIS IS AN ALPHA, RELEASED FOR YOU TO PLAY WITH AND GET A SENSE OF WHAT’S TO COME. AND SOME THINGS DOESN’T WORK. REALLY. IF YOU ARE EXPECTING ANYTHING CLOSE TO PERFECTION, WALK AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER, LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR AN HOUR OR SO, THEN COME BACK. MORE EXCITING DISCLAIMERS/WARNINGS IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS CAN BE FOUND BELOW. READ THEM.
KNOWN BUGS (what doesn't work):
- Modem in 2G mode work incorrect(Network registration don't work with some SIM cards, permanent full signal straight, problem is with audio in calls)
With 3G all is OK, Use this: Settings -> More.. in "wireless&network" category -> Mobile Network -> Preferred Network type -> 3G only
- Conference Calls
- Some problems with audio codec settings, but generally it should
For me : Call diverting , not working
GPS not fully working
Roms is amazing , fast , but not so fast when installing Gapps ,(i did install them , but i disable all of it)
Battery life
don't get me wrong Omni is my daily rom , but this could be a problem if talk to much on phone , battery drop out fast , with average use it won't last 10 hours

SM-T116 rom dilemma!!

Good day XDA!! This is my first ever post or thread on XDA, for about 5 years I have been a spectator to this site, and it has been an essential source for all things us android foondies want and need. But for the past month I have hit a blank when it comes to my new tab3 ve 7.0 sm-t116nq (goyave3g).
It started when I wanted to root it, little to no support for this model was available (at least through the search function) I managed to root through Kingo root on a pc. But now my dilemma is finding/porting rooms for this model. I have no problem with all my Mediatek androids, but I'm in the dark when it comes to samsung. I don't even know where to begin, for other popular Samsung's it's not a problem, obviously because they're popular.
SO, I need some help. I hate this abomination they call touchwiz, I want a vanilla aosp rom for this model, or even better CM or PAC-MAN rom!! I am prepaid to put a lot of time and effort into this. I have extremely limited experience, most of my past successes was actually the success of other xda members (you guys are awesome BTW.) Any info would be apriciated.
So let's revive this tablet and let's start a revolution for budget tablets.

hi! you can read here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/development-7/rom-tab-3-lite-sm-t116-goyave-t3537793
pit file
Can anyone help me find pit file for galaxy sm-t116NU??????
OMG, Im also stuck here with SM-T116BU which was officially upgraded to Tab E (somehow) how it happened, i don't know since this was my son's Tab 3v originally.
lately. i have rooted tru inception (nice job for the rooting guys) then tried TWRP 3.1.1.0 but couldnt boot, down ver to TWRP 2.8.7.0 bcos the others are either not TAR for odin or files are missing to boot TWRP recovery.
so far, i have tried CM-13 but failed miserably, perhaps those files are corrupted as well
I enjoyed loading with my "Note3 with touchwiz" DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO RECOVER, so i tried using the same ROM N9005_TouchWizMM_V4_16-04-2016. installation smoothly with TWRP into TAB E but could NOT make it BOOT.
I guess some files are missing while downloading those as well or those files have been corrupted thru the years.
N9005_TouchWizMM_V4_16-04-2016 not difficult to find but NEED an expert to cook a SM-116 version since this is best "complete" ROM (need kernel) in my Note3 now
I'll keep trying ROM N9005_TouchWizMM_V4_16-04-2016 into THIS TAB E and mixed with SM_116 kernels n I KNOW I MIGHT BRICK THIS SM-116 Tab E, what the HACK so let it be, NO VENTURE NO GAIN hahahaaa

Well. The TouchWiz works perfectly on my note3 so I'll try to cook a TouchWiz for Sm-t116 from the note3 platform. If u have ready ROM, do send them. Tks in advance !
Ps. Out of town next few days ??

Guys please give the firmware rom for TVRP on the TAB-3 Lite SM-T116 ! Cause when I for some reason flashed TVPP I realized that there are no custom firmwares for this device , But I need 100% working FI-WI, and cyanogen mod does not fit, cause Wi-Fi doesn't work there!
