(Odin flashble) Stock Ron? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Is there a factory stock rom anywhere, that I can odin back to?
I have the stock recovery and kernel. But I couldn't find an unmodified stock rom.
Edit: nevermind, I no sooner made this post, then found it. Sigh..

For some dumb reason, I did not realize that was a full unrooted rom. I kept reading it as it just removed root. I'm illiterate.

Will flashing CWM recovery affect getting an OTA?

My understanding is that recovery stays in a separate partition and whatever you do to it does not affect getting an OTA, is that right?
Also, what if my phone is rooted using the Zerg exploit or whatever method, can I still get an OTA?
So basically I think my questions is, what ultimately decides whether my phone can get an OTA, or not?
if you are on stock ROM, you will get it just fine
but you might loose ROOT after it finish the upgrade
if you are on Custom ROM, you wont get OTA
You can get the ota even on a custom ROM. As long as you have the stock recovery.

How would you have a custom ROM with stock recovery? I've never rooted a Samsung phone since this is my first and I'm waiting to root it, so unless Samsung is different I don't see how.

I'm sure within a couple days there will be a custom rom with the new features. that's an assumption but its always been like that on other phones I have had. Hopefully that's the case with this phone also.
I have stock rooted ROM with CWM recovery, is that okay? Or do I have to have a stock recovery?

you will get the notification for the ota, your phone will download it but when it boots into recovery to flash it and its not the stock recovery, it will just give an error and you will probably have to pull the battery to reboot. i did this on the nexus s. if i remember right i never got the ota notififcation again either after it failed.
I know there are methods out there that can flash the entire phone back to stock (kernel, ROM, recovery) but that involves wiping everything. Is there a way to flash back the stock recovery only since I'm already on stock ROM and kernel?
Big thanks...
I wonder where it puts the update after it downloads it. Would be nice to grab it and maybe install without reverting to stock...

It goes to data/cache if I remember right. And there will be rooted roms posted within hours of the ota so its really nothing to even worry about

There is a stock recovery posted in the dev section you can flash in Odin
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Found that and it works. Thanks!
you can keep your phone more up to date by flashing roms as opposed to waiting for an OTA. galaxy s4g is still stuck on froyo. Epic 4g just got gingerbread.
Has has anyone received the update?

What is the update supposed to do or fix?

Update is launching today!

The latest update for the Epic Touch is launching today(12/7). Some people are already getting the OTA.
The first member who gets the update please post it
Thanks
That's the best news I've heard since earlier....(facepalm)
The bummer is we already have it so until there's a .tar we will still have the modem issue

So if you are on a custom ROM, will the update push / prompt? Or do you have to go back to stock?
Does it matter if the custom ROM is EG30 or EK02 based?

Oh no, I don't have it. Sorry if it seemed like I did.
I'd be glad to grab the update if I am pointed towards some instructions on how to do that. My phone is not rooted it that matters.

Question: I'm rooted and on Calkulin's Rom. Should I accept OTA update when I receive it?
Does this Unroot or brick my phone?
Will I still get the update even if I did the qbking manual update? 100% stock not rooted.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I think the bottom line is, if you have anything but stock EG30 on your phone (ROM, kernel and modem) the update will download but the install will fail. I doubt it will brick your phone as the update probably does version checks before it starts the install process.
Same goes for people with the EG31 modem. You folks will have to wait for a TAR leak.

theres no proof of that eg31 was provided by a sprint tester so that would mean his phone wouldnt take the ota either? we will just have to wait and see! but you do have to be on a stock not rooted phone and currently the only way to get back to completely stocl is with the eg31 tar
So im guessing a factory restore odin of eg30 is in order.

Guide to unroot GS2?

I've been searching and have yet to find a complete guide or one stop shop for unrooting and putting back to factory. I'm rooted with beastmod, synergy kernel, and cwm recovery. I do not have a stock .tar or nandroid backup. Can anyone help with providing instructions on how to do this? I want to be unrooted, stock rom, and stock recovery. Basically like how it was out of the box.

That's probably because your flashing with CWM or TWRP and not Odin. I know the counter will start counting if you flash either a whole ROM or Kernel. Not 100% sure if it's for both cases but I remember it was something in the lines of that. I think just flashing a modem through Odin doesn't tic the counter.

Yeah the only time u used Odin was when I first rooted and added cwn. Since then I've been using other recoveries to flash Roms with kernels, themes, mods, etc, etc

Oops my bad. I didn't check the links since I already had the tmo version on my phone, but from what I've read you have to make sure to flash the correct version for your phone. Not sure what would happen if you flashed the tmo version on the telus version, but I dont think I'd be willing to find out
telus link please
I made the mistake of trying to flash t-mobile stock rom through ODIN. It failed and now my counter went to one. My phone is a T989D.
Does anyone have the flash counter reset for TELUS T989D or any instructions as to how to reset it?
thanks

GB27 root?? (same as previous leak)

To get root back can I flash the one from the repository with no data? Or is there a simpler solution

(Sorry if I'm asking a repetitive question.)
Does the leak GB27 match the official GB27 that just came out?
I'm on FL24 stock + root. I don't want to use flash an unrooted FL24, download Kies, update to GB27, then root it.
Wondering if I can just use the One-Click method from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191954
so I can avoid doing all that work and still have the same result.
I'm only asking because I read that GB27 repartitions the storage (or something like that).
I did what you didn't want to do. Some people stated that they are the same but I don't know for sure. I'm having problems accessing the settings and I wanted root back so I just flashed the no data on top of all this. My settings is still messed up and crashes.
