[Q] Nandroid and Rom manager - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello!
After I've installed CWM 5 on my Epic 4G Touch and put in it SD Card from my Epic 4G Everything what was before on /mnt/sdcard right now i can see on /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
But Nandroid from CWM 5 can see all of my old backups. /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/
It is very interesting because Rom Manager can see only new clockworkmod and it is on /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod
Can somebody give me an advice how I can show to Rom Manager what is written on /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/?
Is it possible?
Or how you are doing it and what to do with the info from /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/? How to show to all programms look and install to external_sd but not on sdcard? Or at least to some programs, not all of them?
I'm really sorry for my language but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say?
Please, I need your advice or your experience?
Thank you!
God bless you!

[Q] Issues flashing ROM/KERNEL from SD Card

I successfully rooted and flashed ROM on my phone (Skyraider then Inc Re-Engineered). Problem I'm having, when I copy any downloaded ROM and/or KERNEL from my PC to SD Card, I can not find the file(s) on my phone! Yet they're there when viewing via my PC.
Is there something I'm missing in the process? I've repeatedly read 'How to flash ROM/KERNEL' thread but can't figure out what is wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Phone is fully operational. I want to try other ROMS and KERNELS
Thanks in advance,
V
Try flashing manually and see if you can view them through CW
Hope this helps
Thanks for the reply. I haven't a problem flashing thru CW. Problem is, CW doesn't have ROMs and KERNELS I want to try. I'm going to manually delete the device from my Device Manager (PC) and try reloading/reinstalling drivers.
V
Still not working properly...
No good!
For some reason or another, the driver installed reads 'Android ADB Composite Interface'. Is this something everyone is getting?
If I remember correctly, when I first rooted my Inc Droid, the device was listed in Windows Explorer (hence I was able to add/copy a ROM to the SD Card). It only lists it as a 'Removable Drive' therefore I can copy, but can't see it via Root Explorer on the phone.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
V
Make sure you are putting them onto SD by creating a new folder on PC, put the files in it, drag and drop to SD. Name folder something you'll recognize, use astro to find it on device.

I am now confused by your question. Are you confusing Clockwork and Rom Manager as the same thing? And if you mount the USB storage through CW (Recovery) it should simply load up your SD, I'm almost sure you don't need drivers but someone correct me if I am wrong.
refthemc ... sorry for the confusion/lack of clarity
smtom ... Thanks! your suggestion/tip worked!!!!

I would say keep all Google Apps excluding YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Things that can be downloaded from the market (but keep gmail in)
Maybe keep the popular HTC Widgets and apps and make a seperate add-on for all the others.
and since your are rooted you can add an overclocking app like the one you metioned in you other post
i will go with : gmail, rom manager, a file manager , and if you can add the market enabler app that could be good
Yeah, a file manager would be nice (but put it in /data/apps so people can uninstall it if they want. I prefer Linda since it is light weight) and ROM Manager, Titanium Backup.
my request:
rom manager
youtube
spare parts
take off google books
that is all.

When I try to but into recovery I get this error saying "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)" and it happens like 10 times! Then it says its aborted!
_and this happens after i try to apply update.zip! i can get to the menu w/ fastboot, recovery, etc. but after i open recovery and hit update.zip, that is when it does what i stated below!

try in win xp if you have one or close by mabe it will see it
You need to delete all the partitions on the card and reformat it.
best way to do it on a windows machine is with something like partition magic (off a hirens boot cd)
if you have a linux box, do it through that with cfdisk. Delete EVERY PARTITION and start over
If windows isn't seeing the card, your best bet will be to boot off a unbutu live cd and try and recover your stuff from there.
Oh, wait, did you partition your sdcard WITH stuff on it, without backing it up? If you did that you erased all your stuff. Partitioning it for sd-ext wipes the card and repartitions it.

I second the booting into ubuntu idea. I've used redo backup software, as it's pretty small and fast. From there you can save the files from your sd card onto your harddrive or flash drive if you have other usb slots available. You can then reformat your sd card. Best of luck!
any news ?

[Q] LeeDroid 3.0.8.2 Help

hi,
i have just tried to install LeeDroid 3.0.8.2 and am panicked that i've bricked my phone.
I partitioned the sdcard using Rom Manager - also downloaded and flashed the rom via rom manager.
It seemed to do its thing fine and the leedroid screen loaded up, but now it just keeps looping back on itself showing me that its installing making this funny beeping sound and then goes back to the leedroid screen for maybe 15 seconds and repeats.
Anyone know ever have this experience? can any one help?
thanks
Please make a search...
The best way to avoid bootloop is first to partition the SDcard with Gparted...
Then you need to check a few things (your hboot version among others)
good reading !!!
If it's looping at that point it is almost certainly a problem with the SD-card ext3 partition. Rom Manager is not terribly reliable with making that.
The Gparted suggestion is by far the best solution (assuming you have a PC with a card reader, rather than trying to do it with card mounted in phone)
If you *do* have a reader then try LiveCD with gparted, burn to CD and boot from that.
Make your first partition FAT32, and your ext3 partition at the end of the card. (1GB recommended). Make sure both partition are marked as "primary".
Sorry for jumping in here, but I also need help with this rom (sorry uber noob and all). Figured since the thread was so fresh may as well ask here.
Basically trying to install leedroid v3.0.8.2 (data ++) for my original htc desire.
Cant download from either of the links, they both lead to url 404s.
And i also tried downloading from both rom manager and also the minisite, these downloaded but seem to be corrupt. I cant open the zip file and trying to flash it returns a cant flash (bad) message.
Anybody know where i can get a working zip of this version?

Have you tried here and choose the ROM you want from the white scrolling list? The 3.0.8.3 data version downloads for me.

How can't you install apps, can you describe your problem?
I've uploaded the second newest recovery, 5.0.2.0 (the newest is 5.0.2.7 I think). Put the file into the root of the SD card (ie in no folders or directories, just one of the first things you see on the SD if you scroll down without entering a folder).
Like the OP of Rempuzlle says:
'can t you install apps?reboots?
go to recovery, make a backup of your sdcard on your pc,go to advanced and press Partition sdcard.Choose a size and swap 0.Wipe the phone and install the rom.End'
It downloads, then by the instal the phone freezes and reboots, same problem with root explorer.
Sorry for my bad English...
EDIT
thanks for posting the new cwm.
Problem solved with the new cwm.
Thank you.

[Q] Internal file structure all changed after trying a CyanogenMod ROM

I went from a 4.2 Touchwiz based ROM to a 4.3 CyanogenMod based ROM and the folder structure on Internal Memory has completely changed. I imagine and hope people are familiar with this as it is kind of hard to describe - new "0" folder with all the original internal data in it/folders inside folders with the same name, some with data, some without/etc...I found it a confusing mess.
In the first place it made using the CM rom not a pleasant experience as the phone couldn't see things like my Titanium Backup data, my recovery backups, etc...But even after I managed to find, relocate and restore my TW nandroid (not an easy task in itself) it is still screwed up. It is a bit easier to negotiate the memory structure on the PC but I can't just move folders around back to where they were if I could even remember it right because it won't let me move the Android folder. I really would just like to get it back to where it was.
I'm willing to jump through a few hoops if there is a way that anyone knows of, with maybe backups and reformatting or something like that.
Many many thanks for any help!
4.2 CM Based int sdcard's always been 'sdcard/emulated/0'
have you tried moving folders via recovery from 'emulated/0' to /sdcard/?
I will try that thank you. On the PC even before I found out I couldn't move the Android folder, it was such a large amount of files to move that it froze up. I have a good fast PC so I assume the phone didn't like it. I'll give this a shot thanks again.
What phone model do you have? I am 80% sure sprint doesn't have a 4.2 touchwiz ROM, but I may be incorrect. Have you tried moving all the folders in the 0 back up to the root folder?

Hey Whiplashh I recognize you from Dazed's thread Dammit man you and Spark91 are right I always get confused by it being version 4.2 of the Wicked Sensations rom... but yes it is only Android version 4.1.2. So anyway yes I did try that on the pc - first it just totally bogged and the file move wasn't moving at all. So I tried doing it in small chunks and was making progress until I got an error message that the android folder could not be moved. I am going to try to do it within recovery a little later tonight. Thanks for the input man I appreciate it

Just warning you, when I used ES Fike explorer, it won't let you move that android folder. I usually just delete it and restore my app data with a backup app.
And I see. That is where I know you from! Lol. You really did confuse me with the 4.2 touchwiz! I thought there was an update!! But I understand. I do the same thing but it pays off for me because I stick with v4.1 of wicked.

Hmm...then I imagine Root Explorer wouldn't work either. But hopefully using the file explorer within TWRP will bypass that restriction. I'm trying to work up the courage to do it haha.
And yeah I remember you always saying that wicked 4.1 was working so well for you that you didn't want to upgrade to 4.2
Oh btw now I just noticed that my notification LED is not working...grrr. Why oh why did I stray? (Actually I know why - when Dazed decided to close the thread I took it as a sign from above to try something new after so long on WS). Anyway if you or anyone has a tip lay it on me!
I joined this forum just because i am having a similar problem, i have had many rooted phones and custom roms but never exprienced duplicate file structures.. I went from stock 4.1.2 installed cwm cleared data then installed cm 10.1.3 RC1. My issue is that in root explorer have:
/sdcard/
/storage/emulated/0
/storage/emulated/legacy
/storage/sdcard0/
File paths all lead to the same folders and "update" when i download files. Ive already accidentally deleted all my media in an attempt to consolidate folders.
What should i attempt next? I would like to only have internal storage, /sdcard/ path for onboard sd storage, then still have /extSdcard/.
Im puzzled and tired of 4 copied file locations. Thanks in adv. guys!

Hello krs_uno - I just finished correcting the issue and all seems to be working perfectly. This is what to do...first of all do it on the PC because it is much simpler - all those confusing new folders on the phone's file browser just show up on the PC as 2 tiers of a folder called "0". All you do is simply cut and paste everything from the 0 folder back into the root of internal memory - on the PC referred to as "Phone", and what we want to show up in the "sdcard" folder on the phone. [edit: I forgot to say you should cut and paste in moderate sized chunks or it looks like it's too much for the phone (or PC?) to handle...it bogs/freezes.] The only trick is that to move the "Android" folder you have to rename it first or it won't allow the move (not in recovery on phone either - I tried using the file browser in TWRP). Just rename it again after. If you already have a new Android folder in the root destination (from whatever activity you have done since this mess started) just merge the contents. Same for anything else in there that you want to keep. Then just delete the 0 folder structure - everything on my phone in Root Explorer now looks exactly the same as it did before the mess started (having looked just as you described above beforehand).
I hope it works the same for you...it should.
My notification LED seems to be functioning normally again :good:

I'm all good now (see 2 posts up). Yeah it sure is understandable. I don't know what's gonna get me to switch again...this is by far the best working and looking ROM I've used on any device. I'll follow some of the threads for the new ROMS and maybe in time if something looks really great and stable - I just hate the new file structure (not crazy about some of the changes in the functionality of 4.3 either). Maybe a full internal memory wipe before installing a new version of Android would be benficial...IDK

Through windows i only see the Internal Storage and extSdcard folders, the Internal storage only relates to the sdcard folder in my file browser. I do not see storage or 0 as a file path. Its not even inside of Internal storage, Im going to try wiping data and formatting the internal SD before installing cm 10.1.3 could that fix it?
I think im going to go back to cm 10.1.2 for now its apparently more stable..
I'm sorry I really don't know. I don't know why it doesn't look the same on your computer. Are u coming from a TouchWiz rom? If not maybe that's why? I do like the idea of formatting the internal sd if you're willing to do that. I'm sorry I'm not more help - I kinda just know the little that I know Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I usually keep my stuff strictly on external sd only too, but seeing that wacky file structure had me bent.

I usually just keep everything there and then if I wanna move ROMs, just move all pictures to my external. Then I will have nothing on internal to worry about.
