Ok, so I have had this phone for about a month now and was far too lazy to add my 270 contacts to my phone by hand, so I developed a webpage to convert the contacts from a Backup Assistant CSV to a Kin compatible XML file. This will NOT work with an Office CSV file (maybe in the future, we will see).
Ok so here is how it works. First, log in to your "My Verizon" account on http://verizonwireless.com/

Now, use johnkussack's most excellent KINO application to upload the Cellebrite XML to the root of your phone (instructions for setup there).
Restart your phone.
From the phone app, hit ##77647266488 and press call. Enter 000000 in the code box. Go to the "Contacts" menu at the bottom, and click "Import Contacts".
All of your contacts should import. 270 took me a few seconds. If it is taking too long you probably didn't restart after uploading the file to your phone (tisk tisk), so just shut it down and turn it back on.

Im not being rude in any way, but I think most people wouldnt want to send all of there contacts to a website....a lot of things can happen...

I believe the One/OneM has the same fundamental operating system as the Two/TwoM line, so it should work.

Totally understandable. It is my website and the data isn't even saved anywhere for a moment (other than in memory, then it is dumped). I know that's hard to take at face value, but its truth.
Cant upload contacts
When I try to upload my contacts to convert the csv to xml I get a server error. Is there any other way to convert the file?
I can't seem to get it to work. I'm running kino as admin under windows vista, kino works fine, but the import contacts button wont seem to work, I always get a non-compliant xml error. I've tried filling in the last name field, removing the email field and funny characters, and removing the header at the top. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas or help?

From what I remember, the Kin was very picky about the format of the file. Even if you were to export your contacts and re-import them, you would still have issues with it. If you can, try removing all but one contact, and make sure that contact only has a first and last name and phone number.
Are you trying to do this to add contacts to your phone, or back them up for restoration later?
Im tempted just to tinker around in the "admin" settings... Is that wrong?
well i was trying to add them. I would try it with just one, but unfortunately i ended up just entering them by hand , also i believe i have a Kin two, not a kin twom.
I needed to soft reset my Kin recently due to some random crashing (which I believe was caused by a long text message I was unable to delete). I wanted to backup my contacts and import them after I cleared the phone. I used the same procedure you mention here expect that I downloaded the contacts_export file created by using the "Export Contacts" button on the developer menu.
I renamed the file from "contacts_export" to "cellebrite.contacts.xml" and uploaded it to the phone. After a restart I tried using "Import Contacts" but continually got error messages about Invalid XML. I have spent a decent amount of time trying different things, but I think I have narrowed down the source of those errors (at least in my case).
Each entry must have a first and last name. If you had any contacts in the KIN without that they are exported without a <LastName> tag, and this causes errors during import.
A simple solution for this is to open the exported file and add in empty tags <LastName></LastName> after </FirstName> for any entries without a last name. The same could be done if any of your contacts didn't have a first name.
Once I did that, I was able to use JohnKussack's tool to upload "cellebrite.contacts.xml", restart, and "Import Contacts".
Just another thing to mention, all of my entries only have one number (mobile), a First/Last name (after I fixed them), and nothing else.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like all the posts are about *importing* contacts--my display on my Kin TwoM is completely non-functional (read: dark) and it would be great if I could export the contacts. Any suggestions or threads you could direct me too that would give me the step-by-step?

Question: Does anyone know a registry edit or what line in the .xml file edits the shortcut for messaging? I'm not talking about the key on the phone, but the shortcut on the Homescreen. When you click on the shortcut for messaging it brings you to the screen w/ Text/Multimedia, Windows Live, and New E-Mail Account... When I click on it I want it to open up IMSMS. Anyone know how?
But if anyone knows how to remap the button in the lower right, that would be helpful as well.

try this, its worth a shot.
you will need Total commander. do a google and you will find their official site. its free aswell.
You will need to go into \windows\ and locate tmail:

another thing i was going to mention was that you may loose your MMS and email functionality from that button. im not 100% sure of this but make sure you either take a screen capture or write down everything exactly as you see if you want your button to work like it used to.
hopefully i didnt over complicate things because its not that hard and we are here to help you if you get stuck somewhere.

Okay, restarted it, and no worky, takes me to the WM6 Messaging Screen.
So, I went and checked, and here's what's there for the value.
"\Storage Card\Program Files\Extreme Text\eXtremetext.exe" /MAILLIST
I'm going to remove the part after the quote and see what happens.
Nope, still no worky after restarting.
I'm going to try the other method.

That didnt' work either. I double and triple checked it all, no worky.
What could I be doing wrong?
Just uninstalled it and reinstalled it to the main memory, same problems, I changed the locations so they were correct.

i decided to start a new thread to facilitate Slide2Send 0.5 beta and further versions.
The idea for this application comes from this thread
The program makes use of this wrapper, created by rwt33
Special thanks to Daddy2k for his help with adding a send message in the send items folder.
Issues regarding Slide2Send can be posted here from now on.
Slide2send has the following features
Folder View (Swipe from right to left in inbox view)

Conversation mode and normal mode ,conversation mode currently works as follows, sms messages are grouped by contact/number and send/recieved time, the last send or recieved message is displayed first. if you select a message it is either opened and the details are displayed or a new list is displayed that shows the conversation history. you can then again select a message and the details will be displayed. a red arrow indicates a send message to a contact and a green arrow indicates a recieved message from a contact. Conversation mode can currently only be turned off by setting the <ConversationView> item to 0 in the settings.xml
It should display in both QVGA,WQVGA and VGA,WVGA.
The latest version is 0.9.1 beta
This version has the following:
speed improvements, initial startup time will probably still feel a bit slow, but overall performance will be much improved. (although scrolling could feel a bit unresponsive on some devices, still working on that )
bugfix: NullPointerException in draft folder

unZIP the archive into a folder on your phone, and then run the executable! As its still in BETA - the author hasn't fully completed the software, and in this case, that means no .CAB!!!

In the way that someone can choose if he wants to send from his mobile device directly or a provider on the internet. (I'm currently working on a project to archieve that, so maybe we can work together, which language do you use?)
I saw that you have problems saving messages to the SMS Store. I made a DLL for that purpose. I hope you can use that

i'm afraid the last couple of weeks have been such that development has been at a crawl. Some personal matters have prevented me from working on the app and i have been ill the last couple of days. However i am confident that the first beta will be here soon! that is in the next couple of days

finally version 0.5 has been released. currently there is no installer and no program icon, this will be added in the next version. This version has also no splashscreen at startup.

Here's the problem I'm having, and its bugging me. From all the sense roms I've used, I have HTC Facebook data in with my contacts. I want it gone cause I don't really ever plan on using sense. Can someone help me?

If you want facebook stuff out of contacts, open the people app, hit menu then view, and uncheck facebook for htc sense. This will not remove the facrbook stuff already there you will have to delete it manualy but it will stop new stuff from being added or updated.

I'm not on a sense rom tthough. I'm on cm7. I don't have that feature

I think this is really annoying, too. Especially if you switch between Sense and AOSP roms. Unfortunately, I haven't found a quick way to mass delete all the notes. You have to manually edit each contact and erase it. But as long as you never use another Sense rom, the notes won't fill back up, so that's a plus.
Neat trick I have used before, though: delete the notes with MIUI. It's got a quick clear button to erase all the content in a contact's note box. You still have to manually edit each contact, but it's a little faster than CM7 or anything...

Just putting it out there that there may be an app that can do this.
I know I used an app to erase a bunch of annoying duplicate contacts I had after I accidently restored them 3 times. Of course this is a much more specific problem, and I haven't checked, but just throwing ya some ideas
just went through them all. thumb hurts. lol

I had to do it manually too. I sync my Gmail contacts so it was a little easier to manually erase the "HTC Notes" on the web interface.
1. Export all the contacts to the SD card, which produces a .VCF file.
2. Edit this VCF file with a good text editor like TextPad, and use that to delete any lines beginning with 'NOTE:', e.g. use the regular expression '^NOTE:'
3. Delete all the contacts off the phone - the app 'Contact Remover' can do this.
4. Force a sync; this is because you may get a warning about too many deletions. If so, confirm the delete. Check they are all gone.
5. Import from the SD card.

Not one click, but it works way better than what I've had to do before.
1. Open contacts in gmail on web.
2. Export all contacts to GoogleCSV
3. Download the file.
4.Edit the CSV and just clear the whole notes column or edit them individually if you have contacts with notes already.
5. Delete all your gmail contacts.
6. Import newly edited file.

Wouldn't this remove any contact pictures associated with those contacts?
I don't believe the CSV file stores the picture....which means in my case I'd have just as much of a PITA to fix the pictures.
I'm really surprised no one's created a contact cleaner app yet... there was a great one on my old Palm device eons ago that would let you do all sorts of things to standardize your contacts.

Hi everyone!
I've had my One X for about a month or so and I'm really enjoying my phone! Although there is one thing that really bugs me! When I want to send a SMS to a new contacts, or call a person, every single contact I have shows up. That means both Google, Facebook and SIM contacts. The funny thing is, they only show up in the "Phone" app and the "SMS" app contacts list. If I manually go to "Contacts" app, then only the SIM-contacts show up. I really only want my SIM contacts showing up there.. Is there any way of working out this problem? Here's a picture showing the problem: imgur-dot-com/ZxEGo

You can "manage" contacts at: on your phone, go to People, select Menu (3 dots on top right) and select "Manage contacts". There you will find options for "De-duplicate contacts" & "Merge contacts". Use Merge contacts if you have multiple accounts synced.
Additionally you can go to each contacts and "Edit" and link them to their duplicate entry.

That is in the People app, not the Phone app.
Unfortunately there is no way to remove these additional numbers unless you disable contact syncing from within Facebook. It's especially annoying when someone changes there number but doesn't update it in Facebook. You then end up two numbers for one contact and don't know which one is correct

What do you mean by changing it from within facebook? Does this affect my specific problem?
Why not just phone or text from people? You can set it to show whatever contacts you like. Long press whoever you want to phone or text and bobs dad pumped your gran.

My Google sync does not sync my contacts anymore. Not since April 9...
As you can see on the image, it just keeps showing the white wheel. Everything else syncs. I have tried ticking the sync off and on. Restart the phone...
Any ideas how to get this syncing again?

It just happens sometimes on all android phones...
To get it working again, first disable syncronization, then go to settings -> applications -> "all" tab and look for the contacts app. Then click on erase data.
After that, enable sync again and it should work.

I have the same problem. I notice that I have contacts on my phone that don't show up on my web-based Gmail account. I'm tempted to do this but before I do, I hope you don't mind answering these questions:
1. Which of the following do I clear the data of: Contacts or Contacts Storage?
2. Does this delete the contacts on my phone?

1.you can both, but contact storage is main.
2.You will lose all contacts by erasing data
First make backup of existing contacts this way
- Contacts - menu - Import / export - Export to SD (OR USB whatever you like)
- Clear data of contact and contact storage from setting - app manager - All - Contact & Contact manager
- Erase all contacts from web (otherwise you may get duplicates) to be more secure you can export your web contacts too to a file before erasing.
- Restore contact
Contacts - menu - import/export - import from SD (or USB watever you have selected earlier)- Now it will ask to storage type - Here you can select google a/c then your all contact will get sync)
- Check all contacts are there then start Sync and check from web if it sync correctly and completely

I saw a lot of member after getting helped from Dr.ketan and never press the thanks button. Im really wonder they are still new or do not realize the existing of thanks button. Shame....

Um, sorry. I don't always get to check the forum and my emails because I'm not on the computer and/or the phone all the time.

I encountered another roadblock. I followed the instructions and restored my contacts on the phone, however, my contacts won't show up on Gmail. Did I miss anything?
Have you restore in Gmail account?

I erased everything on Gmail. Then restored the contacts on my phone by importing from SD. When I synced, nothing came out on Gmail. I felt that I didn't have a choice but to click "restore contacts" on Gmail. The new contacts that I saved on the phone still won't show up on Gmail. So I just saved them again on Gmail. Apparently, a lot of other users are experiencing what I'm experiencing, some even going as far as restoring factory settings (I didn't do that yet) but to still no avail. I wish Google / Android finds a solution to this
Do you able to see 'g' besides your each contact on device?
also make sure contact sync is enabled in account settin (as shown in post#1)
Blue "g" icon = yes
contact sync enabled = yes
Try removing your Google account then add again.

My device is sync with the google contacts on the web but when I check it does still say "sync error" but everything is synced. I tried deleting one contact then refreshed it on the web and it is all sync. Where is the problem then? Thanks!

I also had a problem like this.
I'm living in Iran.
But the government of iran and the owners are boycotting technology such as Google.
I've been using a proxy program and managed to solve this problem would solve my problem

After a thousand tries, the problem is still exist. No matter how many times you delete your contact cache/data, reset factory or on your new phone, the sync problem will be back again. Maybe it's bcoz of multi device sync? Mystery unsolved google contact sync issues.

It's been a while since I've been through this, but unfortunately I have a similar problem. My problem is "Google account" in accounts and sync. But I can only select google photos when I click on the sync mark. No selection box for contacts. How can I fix that?
The device has clone s3 and ics 4.0.4 on it. The gapps packages available for this release also do not work. It does not synchronize people in any case. I cleaned the data from the applications, I deleted Accounts.db and reinstalled it.
Finally, I found the following lines for Accounts.xml and added it, but still there is no positive situation. What else can I do? Thank you.
