Hey all, I just joined on a referral from the Dell Axim forums. I just bought a Dell Axim x50v from an auction real cheap, and i'm looking to upgrade the OS on the device. It currently has Windows Mobile CE 2003 on it, and i would like to upgrade it to whatever is the newest that it can handle. I did do a search, but i found a lot of posts, so i thought it would be best to create a new one to effectively set my claim. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm trying to support a friend of mine, who has one of the first Axim X5 with WM2002, to upgrade it...
...as much as possible (ideally to 2003SE, or 2003 at least) :?:
Dell site was obviously useless
Any idea of where I should look?
Is there any forum like this one for Dell PDAs maybe?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

Hello,
I have a Dell Axim x50v recently purchased off ebay along with a Dell Executive Bluetooth Keyboard.
I am on WM2003SE but think I want to go to at least WM2005 for advanced options with my pocket genealogist program.
I also would like to view photos and listen to music on my axim.
Can someone tell me the best upgrade roms to go for, if at all?
photos and muisic work on all os's equally well. not sure about your genealogist program.
wm2003 A05 is pretty stable.
Can I upgrade the Dell Axim X30 to any other operating system? It is currently running Windows PocketPC 2003.
Thanks,
John
judging from the number of views compared to the number of replys
in this thread i'd say i doubt it

Have you guy read this:
Last week, Microsoft formally unveiled Windows Mobile 6.1, the latest version of its operating system for handhelds and smartphones.
Naturally, the owners of current devices are anxious to know if and when updates for their units will be released.
Unfortunately, there's bad news for users of HP's latest iPAQs. Responding to a question from Brighthand, Mike Hockey, Hewlett-Packard's Worldwide Public Relations Manager, said:
HP will not be offering an operating system upgrade for currently shipping HP iPAQ devices beyond what ships on the device today -- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.
This decision comes after having evaluated the potential for delays in firmware and software updates, device recertification, and carry-over costs to our customers that are often associated with an operating system upgrade.
HP is committed to continuing its long-standing relationship with Microsoft and will deliver HP iPAQs with Windows Mobile 6.1 at a future date.

Just bought a HP 214, so I'd be very interested in the 6.1 upgrade.
It does not supprise me that HP have made this decision, they let us all down with the upgrade for the 4700 from 2003 to wm5, that in mind it will be better to have someone cook the rom than wait/trust HP to release a workable upgrade.
This just shows how committed HP is to their customers--they're not! I'm in the market for a new pocket pc and I was thinking about getting the HP 211, but I think I will just go with the dell axim X51v now.
Soo much for their so called "3 years Supports" ...
This is what i got.. 1 single version OS for the rest of your life.
multimedia on ipaq and dell.

Hi guys. I have a hp ipaq hx2750.
Since my parents won't buy me ipod touch or other stuff,
I bought the hp ipaq hx2750 from my dad. (yes from my dad)
It's so old I was on the verge of throwing it away, then I was
introduced to Windoes Mobile 6.5.
So here's my question. How do I update my hp ipaq hx2750 to
Windows Mobile 6.5? Can somebody post a pic by pic guide?
If I jack my ipaq up I won't get another for sure. Thanks for
your help and time guys.
Also need some upgrading guidance.
Hello Guys,
I want to use TOM TOM 7 on my iPAQ HX2750 and since it doesn't work at present, I think upgrading from Win CE 4.21 to WM 5 or 6 might solve the problem. So,
1. Which is best? WM 5, 6.1, 6.5??
From other posts, there seem to be issues with upgrading such that codecs, rom, etc. need to be upgraded too.
2. Will I have to update additional software components in order to sucessfully install the new operating system?
3. Which components will I need?
Hope somewher, some1 will take pity and HELP
Thanks!

A: That will depend on tastes, I like 6.5 but you need to have a powerfull device to really enjoy it.
I hope you find all you need!
Device Power
A helpful hint. My best guess is that the iPAQ HX2750 is one of the lesser powerful devices considering when I bought it in 2004 it came with win CE 4.21.
Will probably be a good idea then to opt for WM5 or 6.1 (at a push)
Thanks again!!!
