Is there a way of adding groups to the contacts view, like on Samsung handsets? For example, I would like to have groups for "family" and "work".
Also, is there a way to have folders as they used to be in the older firmware, like windows folders on a pc and not the transparent look of the new firmware?
The default Contact app does not support groups. You can download 3rd party apps like GO Contacts.

I've got quite a few folders on my homescreen for bookmarks and apps etc and would like to change the sorting criteria of the items or even better sort them how I like so they are placed in the folder how I like.
Anyone able to do this or have any ideas?
Cheers
For Apps in a folder I have not yet found a solution.
For Bookmarks I am using the LiveBook app (a Live Folder). It will show all Bookmarks alphabetically - which is exactly what I want, but your needs may be different of course.
I'm coming from the OG Droid (Android 2.3). There the favorite contacts list was a simple scrollable list.
In ICS 4.0.2 its a ridiculously oversized mosaic with pictures for each contact. I have too many favorites for that to be practical.
Where is the option to change the list from Icons to a Scroll list? Will I be forced to use a 3rd party app for that?

Oh, it's so, so crap isn't it?
And I have almost no contacts with pictures so it looks even worse. I've un-stared all of my contacts for this reason.
I also made some additional mods to the contacts app linked below:
* Removed contact picture from Recent Calls list - now a simple list
* Removed contact pictures from Frequently Called - now a simply list
Since I now have no favourites I don't have the problem you have with that list and my mod does *not* address that sorry... but it might help a bit.
Indeed I have no need for favourites any more because the Frequently Called and Recent Calls lists are sufficient for me.
I may look into the favourites section at some point but as I say, since I don't use them it's not a priority.

Hello Frnds,
Recently I rooted my phone as I wanted to remove my stock SMS app due to missing functions as described in my previous post and also to remove the stock contact app as there is no provision to add birthday. After rooting, I removed these two apps and some of unwanted apps provided by SE. I installed new phonebook app and Handcent SMS app and I was happy unless I needed to add a new contact to my phonebook. When I click on add new contact , it showed me an error message saying application not found to handle this. When I again reinstalled the removed Contacts app back and click on add new contact from my new phonebook app, it opened the add new contact page of the Contacts app i.e. without Birthday entry. I was so annoyed to see that I landed up on the same path from where I had started.. Can anyone tell me how can I chagne the default link so that I can use the Add Contact funtion of new app Phonebook and not of the Contacts app.
Most of such replacement apps, especially messaging ones, need to work along with the corresponding default one. As far as I know, only GO SMS can work individually, but again, it's not recommended to uninstall such vital system apps because they are deeply integrated in stock ROM.

Thanks for ur reply.. But as u must know that there is not provision to add birthdate in the stock contacts app and even if I add some other app from market which has provision to add birthday and click on add new contact, it again opens the same stock contacts app's add contact page...

That last part is the third-party app's issue.
See, there are three elements in a Contacts app: the dialer, the contact list and the contact viewer.
Some apps include only the first two, thus when you open a contact, stock app (and more specifically InfiniteView) appears.
As for birthdays, if you sync your contacts with Facebook inside Xperia, you'll get them.
Or you could add a note to each contact with their birthday.
On GN, the phone book be appeared in the dailing pad and a individual phone book icon. The PB in the dailing pad cannot find and display all,the contact in my PB. I need to search some people via the individual PB icon. I dont understand google duplicate the PB and not same function.
In addition, the OS is designed the app drawer for selecting apps, i think, that the apps will not be shown in the apps drawer when move to home page as quick link will be more clean, the apps inthe apps drawer can be hided if we dont want to show in drawer. Now it made the system complicated and duplicated. The apps drawer can be created folder will be better.
Not really a Dev thread now is it?
Should be in General/Q&A
Just curious if anyone uses the multitasking/multi window option, especially now in OneUI 4.1.1 / a12L. If so, which apps do you use together?
I must admit, excited as I was to use this when I first got the phone (and the updated version with the taskbar in the latest update) I keep forgetting to use it.
Most frequently I use email w/ contacts, email w/ calendar. In both cases I am visually transferring data or cutting and pasting. Sometimes it's a web page with contacts or calendar.
I use it occasionally, more often using the pop-up feature for the calculator and sometimes other apps like Chrome or Notes, but I've been using pop-up for years. The most recent time I used the multi-screen was two fold: Samsung Browser and Notes to make a list of good berm plants, bushes, and trees from a Web site that lists them after looking up what they each look like; and Samsung Browser, a photo app, and a share screen for saving some idea pics off the Pinterest site (not app) which you can only do by dragging the pic to the multi-screen and open it in a photo app to save it from there.
