If I told you guys I was making white housing for our Cappy's, would you guys be interested in buying it?
It's not available anywhere, but I made one for myself and it looks great!
I was thinking of charging $40.....trying to get some idea of how many people would be interested.
Let me know!

Just remember, if and/or when you start to sell these, you need to do it in the Marketplace, not here.
Just my own opinion here, but I'm not loving it. The fact that the sides are white, but the backplate is still black doesn't look good. The front would look better if the top and bottom were also white. It would make the whole thing look complete.
I like the concept but I think it needs to go further.
FWIW, I've always been a jet black gadget lover. I think it looks sleek and refined. White just always made me think back to the old white/beige PCs of yesterday.
i would absolutely buy one, ive been scouring the internet for them for months now
Top and bottom of the front white would look better. White lettering on the back too maybe?
ill buy for $40 maybe a bit more, it just past my bday so i gots money to spend.
Pm me if you want.....
40 seems a little expensive for my liking. And it looks like to me that all you were doing was just adding a vinyl skin ontop of the phone.
Although if you were to make one for the whole phone I think 20-30 would be more than enough of a fair price for one.
actually no, i bought official Samsung replacement housing from Japan, then put 6 coats of white plastic paint, followed by 3 coats of clear. took about a week altogether.
Sent from my Android 4.0 ICS'd Cappy
I agree that i think it needs to be more white, great idea though.
WHITE? ewwww.... just my 2cents.. now a matte black finish ill bite
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
maybe if it were actually white plastic and not just white paint, also the display would have to be white also cause it just looks ugly as of now
i love the white, but like the others on here i think the whole thing should be white. and if its a white paint and not plastic isn't there going to be a chipping issue overtime?
Green?
I dont mean to hijack this thread, but I was very interested in getting a different color housing for my captivate after viewing this. After searching for a few hours for colored housings online I just decided to try what you did with the white and buy my own paint and try it out! I went with an Android Green just to match my theme on my phone (I am due for an upgrade soon anyways). I will try to update with a picture of the finished productas soon as I am done!

well.. I was smart enough to put some clear tape over the outside of the camera lens, however when i flipped it over to get the edges I was not paying close enough attention and sprayed the inside. I was able to get the paint off pretty easily though.
I did an idiot move when putting my phone back together. I was using the phone with just the sd card to take pictures and left the card in the phone when trying to fit the housing back on.. needless to say I snapped the sd card in half and it no longer works :/
Edit: I'm not sure if I'm gonna say that I am done or if I should add another coat. However I am pretty happy with the color I just need to clean it up a bit! Let me know what you all think!

I think it'd be cool if you put a coat on everything that isn't the screen. To me it looks incomplete with the bottom of the phone(both front and rear) still black. Two coats probably isn't a bad idea! Maybe some gloss clear coat over the top to make it shiny? I like the android green choice though.

well this is actually with about 3 coats and 1 "gloss" coat. I'm not sure if I used the right paint. I used the "plastic paint" which probably takes a bit longer to dry. When putting it back together I kept pulling the paint from the tail part so I decided just to completely take the paint off of that part. Also I was thinking about painting the top and bottom of the front, however I did not want to risk covering the microphone hole and the inputs at the top. I think if I hadnt rushed through it so much then I could have had a better finished product.. good thing is these housings are around 8$ on ebay so I can just buy another one and give that one a proper try!

Prep work is 90% of painting. The actual painting part is very quick. You should have sanded better. It looks like the paint will dry and begin flaking off if it has not already.
Well one of my friends suggested I should "wet sand" it. I've personally never heard of that but he said it will make it look a ton better, so I guess I'll try that this afternoon.
Wet sanding= sanding with water to remove particles from the sandpaper.
Start with 200 grit to really clear off the paint. Then move to 400 grit. Then move to 800. Then clean with alcohol VERY WELL.
you want it to be flat and sanded down to 800 grit across the whole piece. Don't stop with 400 grit until all the green is gone. Use 800 to polish it. The rubbing alcohol is used to clean off any particles which may stick. Douse it in alcohol.
There are better ways.. but if you're going to do all of that, may as well use a nice metal flake paint and a clear coat from your auto parts store to get it really nice. If you do the clear coat, don't stick it in your pocket for a few days.
Also, time yourself on that 1 minute shake thing... trust me. Shaking is important. Longer is better. It helps the paint to dry properly and faster.

Ok, So I really wanted the new Samsung Galaxy S2 (Euro) because it has the white with that iphone look but much cool-er.
But forking out that money is a no no.
So after looking I found a white glass for the vibrant along with the white bezel you will get a 1 of a kinda white vibrant!!!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Outer...985?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbeda8621
I just purchased it last night. I will purchase the white housing when I get back home and will see how it goes.
If anyone has this already please let me see some pictures
Ooh, update us on how that works for you. I know how to replace bezel/housing, but I don't know how to do JUST the glass since I think the digitizer is literally glued on. Pictures too! (My reaction to the EBAY listing: Holy ****ing ****! GAAAAAASP!)
If yours works out, I'm so getting one! I really wanted to updated to the S2 as well purely for aesthetic reasons but I heard it doesn't work well with Tmo 3g ):
I am interested in this too. Please get back to us and let us know how it went. I have broken glass and this would be the cheapest fix.
Glad that you're trying this as I kinda want to also. I've heard that the OLED and Digitizer are glued on so you can't just try to pry it off.
If I were trying it, I would try to take an exacto knife blade and cut carefully (oh so carefully) through the glue instead of trying to peel up the screen, which is really fragile. Do you have any kind of plan?
Unfortunately, there isn't much information out there on taking the screen glass off without replacing the whole screen so any info you can give will help out a lot of people who are interested in replacing cracked/scratched glass as well.
Best of luck and please let us know how it turns out!
i will be interested too please someone make a video
Well, One of my co-workers is going to do the job for me. I saw him tackle an IPhone 4 screen replacement too. I have in the past did replace some phone screens on a mytouch and mytouch 4g.
I will see about getting detailed pictures when he does the job. I'm going to be researching it here on out too. Downside is the time it takes to get here!!!!!
Do what you can about tutorial, video or pictures, what ever it may be. I saw this a bought one immediately. I already have a nice back cover in white that has Samsung and Powered by Google on it, so thought this would be an excellent pair.
Let us know
Is it even possible to just replace the glass without the digitizer? I thought it was almost a single unit and you would have to replace both.
I would really like to know.
Just to let you guys know, the listing looks like it has a hole for the FFC. It would be a problem for those with it, but it might irk those without it.

That's nothing a little dab of white paint couldn't fix.
...also, why would it be a problem for people WITH the front facing camera? Seems ideal to me.
Seeing as the glass/digitizer-lcd is nearly impossible to separate with both intact, I was just thinking of gluing the glass to a screen protector, then applying that on the phone. Finish off with a hard case or silicone that covers the bezel (and a little of the phone so it also covers the edge of the glass (which I'm sure will be raised higher due to just putting it on top), and voila!
Having this succeeded would seriously help. I'm this close to just getting the Intl SGS2, but ahh, it wont work with Tmo past Edge .. ;_;
Anyone ever tried/seen a white bezel? Sand it down, paint it? I've seen a gold bezel, but that's about it. Wow, white and gold

You are saying that you'd have a screen protector on top of a stack of two screens? I'd say that's an idea you shouldn't pursue, one because you're going to ruin the quality of the image you see, and two, you won't be able to touch your digitizer on the lower screen. Screen no workie!
If you've got to have a white border and you're not willing to get the whole shebang replaced, I'd say go with some cut vinyl. That's the cheapest route (time and money investment) that you could take. It would be interesting to see a white bezel. (the white Samsung Fascinate was so nice!) It seems like it would be paintable once you scuff up the surface. I just decided to find a solid white tpu case and it looks great in it. Covers the bezel perfectly.

Hm, you're right. Didn't think about the screen quality after two glasses/protectors ;_; I've tried the vinyl cut-out but after a while, I started to really notice/feel the edge of the vinyl when I'm swiping things around. So I really want to try the glass lens.
I'm going to look up that solid white tpu! I've only ever seen transparent TPUs
So is there anyway to really use this?
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recieved the glass.
Now, I want to try this so bad but Im need to be smart about this or I won't have a working phone.
I need to try this on a non working phone. If anyone still has or knows anyone with a screen with glass that is broken. Please let me know.
I will try and remove the OLED screen from it and see if it can be done.
Ooh, can you post pictures? I want to see how thick the glass is
Ha, this sounds like quite the project. I'll be anxious to see photos.
And it would probably look something like this to get it done:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT7wRXeYsyg
Too much work.
This mod wouldn't work unless you know how to attach a digitizer onto a glass screen, also check the listing again - the glass comes without a flex cable soldered on.
so, i've got way too much time on my hands and was looking for a brushed aluminum style back cover to match our cameras online. I could find nothing. i started looking into the process of melting aluminum, which is surprisingly easy, as is creating the brushed effect. as of right now i currently have my back cover pushed into some drywall mud (no modeling clay) and drying so that i can form the second half of my mold. just thought i would inform you guys of my insanity!
TL;DR : trying to make an aluminum back cover from scratch.

I think antenna reception would be a bigger concern. Still, I would totally plunk down some cash to buy one, if you figure out how to do something easily repeatable...
Keep us posted, this sounds like a really cool idea!
i'll definitely let you guys know how it goes. good to know people care because it will keep me from stopping half-way through. haha. i'll probably do most of it this weekend. the drywall mud was pretty dumb, im probably going to use a greensand mold and see what i can do with that. ill just do the dividing line along the back of the back cover.
the bad news: greensand is hard as hell to find at stores or anything
good news: i have scrap aluminum, and i can borrow my girlfriend's dad's propane torch. i went out and bought plaster of paris tonight. Going to set up the mold tomorrow morning and once it is hardened i can start the process of melting+pouring+setting the aluminum in the mold.
turns out walmart sells plaster of paris in a big purple box covered in flowers, which made it somewhat difficult to find considering nobody there knew what it was....
bottom half of the mold is set and drying. here's hoping i can get it back out. haha.
Looks like it might be kinda hard making sure the holes for the speaker are cut out properly!
i made sure the plaster got far enough into the holes to make an imprint, but not far enough to seal the back to the mold.

thats good! Do you have a dremel or something else to smoothen out edges? Molds typically create a lot of extra garbage on the side that needs to be cut off... Your using aluminum right?
If yours comes out good and doesnt hinder the signal quality too bad, i think i might do the same

yeah, i've got plenty of tools and scrap aluminum. depending on how well it turns out/how it affects the phone i may offer to sell them to people on here.
that isnt to say that buying one will be the only way to get one. I will be sure to post a full and detailed tutorial when i am finished for anyone adventurous enough to attempt it.
No to be a pessimist but did you notice that there is something on the original cover that seems to be taped in the cover? I figure an antenna?
How will you do it?

i've been without a back cover while it is setting for about a day now and haven't noticed any adverse effects.
bottom mold is done, and looking pretty good besides a few air bubbles that i need to fill.
You may want to look at the back cover a little more closely. The warning message to not scratch the sheet makes me think the back cover also helps to serve as an antenna possibly??? Not sure, but it seems odd to have the warning.
About the sticker being an antennae, that never crossed my mind. For some reason I always assumed it was something to distribute heat away from the battery.
Both possibilities seem very plausible though.

Purpose of this thread
Just wanted to share my pics (at Bottom) and helpful tips for any first time doers to customizing...or have a place where you can ask questions some noobs might think are stupid but it's cool that what this is for
Obviously i'm not responsable for anything that YOU do TO YOUR phone ...just a disclaimer just incase...obviously this is not rocket science but better safe ...and OBviously Not responsible for the Sellers on ebay...and what they do. Your actions are your own...thanks now that's clear ...we move on.
Ok so i had a black t989d samsung galaxy S II from telus
I bought a white vinyl decal and a white battery door of ebay.
Ebay links of the ones i bought (links may expire over time)
White Door : http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OEM-BATTERY-...785829?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35b9c24ee5
White vinyl decal (basically like a sticker but it will not leave marks or glue on you screen so it's safe)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/White-Vinyl-...495791?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19cd79d3ef
Tips :to applying the vinly on the front
i would recommend buying 2 vinyls just to be safe or mess up sticking it properly...the stickness is best the first time/ second time
Clean your phone first -microfibre clothes are best...like those tiny cloth sheets that comes with sunglasses
I say second time only if you didn't press down firmly on it to make it stick if you just gentle drop on using mainly the weight of the sticker itself it cool to remove it and re-adjust 2 maybe 3 times
Obviously remove the holes for the camera and hearing speaker
Use the bezel, the silver frame that goes around the sides of your phone to guide yourself to being straight
APPLYING:
The way i apply it is holding the top Thick / fat part (front facing camera ) on edges (so it doesn't stick to my fingers) with first finger and thumb rougly around the centre same thing with the bottom part with the 4 android buttons (both hands being above the sticky part not below)
then use my middle fingers to push the lines along the frame to make them come straight....more importantly trying to line up the bottom so the lights light up the drawings on the stick for the 4 button it won't come perfect which is ok but the light should be really close to it if you line up the bottom with the silver frame
Note for the camera part there's an outline sticker that goes around the camera piece as well ...for that remove the battery door is makes it easier
What my black phone looks like after:
Front and back image - Pic 1 and 2
Battery door / camera piece can be seen- Pic 3
LED light 4 buttons - Pic 4
DON't forget to HIT the THANKS button (thumbs up) if you found this helpful

Umm sure but the screen protector should ideally, either cover the entire front including the top, like around the front camera etc...or be the same size or smaller then the rectangle that fits inside the frame of the white vinyl ...only because it will have a weird little raised outline underneath of the protector...if you don't mind that then yeah should be fine...hopefully that makes sense what i said and it's not confusing LOL (PS unfortuantely it doesn't come a protector for the screen)
an alternative...just an opinion ... would be you could get another screen protector (i know a lil more costly) then remove the old one...place the white vinyl on the phone take the new protector (without pealing the back thingy that protectors the stickness) place on top of the phone trace with a marker (on the side that peals away of course)cut the outline with an exacto (X-acto) knife *after tracing, take it of the phone to use the exacto lol just saying to be safe...never know people may try exacto on top of their phone LOL *
Hope that helps...feel free to ask any other questions

yeahh that is a bit tricky but if you look closely i'm not exactly on the light i'm slightly off ...it's nearly impossible to get it dead on 100% but if the light falls under to light up the printed button it should be good enough....i actually mainly focused on the framing the whole as straight as possible using the bezel (silver frame of the phone) as the guide...the button should line up roughly 95% if you get it straight frame on frame... if it helps my top corners both left and right have a lil black space showing (around the curves) you can't even see it really....it cuz i focused on making sure my front camera and senors were not covered and then lined everything up downwards.....hopefully this makes some sense...LOL

Has anyone replaced the chrome bezel on their Note 2? The video on the etradesupply.com website (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR26Iad4dEw#!) makes it looks pretty straight forward. I guess the main thing that is different from the older Samsung phones is that the housing is held on with clips around the bezel instead of being glued. Mine has a few dings so was hoping I could make it look a lot newer for not a lot of money if this was an easy job.
This was interesting to see. I enjoyed it and then started cringing. I like how the disassembly process is so smooth, and effortless. In my reality, probably not so much. The reassembly of my phone, I imagine I end up with parts leftover and my phone not functioning.

Haha, I kind of felt the same way. All I'm trying to do is remove and replace the bezel so it looks like you remove the screws on the back, and then use that tool to free all the tabs between the screen and the chrome bezel. I'm assuming the new one just snaps back in, replace the screws and you're good to go. I think I may order the bezel and tool and give it a try. I'll report back with how it goes.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but anyone got to successfully change the bezel?
So got my new Z1C today, first thing I noticed was the LED lights up the whole earpiece instead of being a poxy little pinprick that you barely see on the XT, very nice!
Problem is on mine that little piece inside that actually lights up isn't quite straight. It looks like a waterproof gauze type thing made to light up I can't tell if whole thing lights up or something underneath? I pushed a little piece of paper into the gap to see how stable it was and it looks like only attached on the right. I'm worried if I drop phone it will come completely loose and more so this gap would let water into the earpiece area?
Please have a look at your own phones and tell me when LED lit, if you look straight in is it a clean line running up to the bezel thats lit of do you see a gap on left or right between bezel and LED?
Thanks
not sure what are you asking but here is how it looks on my phone
PS: sorry for all the dirt up there
Thanks for that! You managed to get a much better picture than me. The dirt being trapped by that mesh might look bad but its keeping the inside clean I imagine. On mine you can't really see in the bad picture but there's a little gap at the top on the left like the mesh wasn't put in quite straight so it's not reaching the bezel and i'm seeing dirt already trapped UNDER the mesh @ not even 24 hours old. Don't wanna just rinse thing under the tap either in case it's not waterproof in the area without that. Gonna send it back I think and get a replacement - better safe than sorry and it's a premium phone shouldn't have anything like this out of the box.
Cheer's for the pic mate

Of course you can wash it out.
Seems a tad OCD, prepare to be laughed at in the shop, made me laugh just reading it.
