[Q] WLAN and Notification LED - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
is it possible to activate the Notification LED when wlan is active (and connected)?

Try you check "Network notification" in WiFi settings. Could work, because it's a notification and notifications activate the LED.
SwiftKeyed from dGB with Transparent XDA App

No, won't work. The description for network notification says "Notify me when an open network is available". I think this is something else (couldn't try this notification on an open network).

Well write a very simple app that receives wlan-statechange broadcast and turn the led on and off based on it, if there isn't an app already. Tasker from the market will most likely be able to do it as well.
If you don't wanna buy tasker i could possibly write you a simple app sometime.

Unfortunately I found no app in the market for this. I also tried Eclipse, but what should I say, I'm a noob . Perhaps I will find some good tutorials for basics.
Can I change something in the rom itself? (eg there is some stuff under "/sys/class/leds")

Probably can but it would be far more difficult.. Go with tasker or get someone to write one for you.

Another vote for tasker

OK, thanks. I try Tasker, I see there is so much you can do with it

Its certainly one of the best apps I have purchased.

tasker can do that...

glad to no longer feel like crap!

Hi
having grown increasingly frustrated at being treated like a second class citizen by app developers/the tech industry in general, I decided to abandon my hd2 and bought a Desire.
so far so good, except now I have to run around trying to find replacements for all the handy little things I could do on my successive years of windows devices.
I like the cleanliness of the desire in
terms of the UI and no more messing about with cabs etc BUT this also means a lack of control e.g it won't transfer my phone book to my car and there's no way of looking deeper into it.
but all in all, I feel I've joined a brave new world and still get to feel superior to iPhone users!
one other thing, has anyone seen a timer like widget that would allow me to turn on Bluetooth or WiFi and automatically turn itself off after a given period. Any ideas?

Have a look at locale.
Can turn on and off services based on conditions.
Word of waerning: Locale also managed to force close my application manager. In case any of you should experience that, you need a 3rd party app like AppMonster to get rid of Locale.
Yep....Locale did the same for me as well. Application manager started to force close. I'm using Timeriffic now, but it has less options than locale.

my phonebook is transferred.
unpair your car. pair again and keep your desire on.
after a few seconds you will get a popup, that someone wants to read your private data.
thats your car. allow it. after that you are fine.
thanks all.
re: locale, I had indeed to install appkiller to get rid of it. I'm now using Setting Profiles.
re: the car, yes thanks for that, it is working now, but with one minor problem, the desire has to have its screen on to connect. which means that even if Bluetooth is on, you have to get it out of your pocket to pair. not a huge issue, but I wonder of there's a solution.
anyways, thanks for your help on this. nice to see that we may be on a new platform but the guys at xda are great as usual!

"Setting Profiles" is the one I use instead of Locale now. Really good.

goto settings wireless -> bt -> press once on your car hands free. there is a checkbox: autoconnect.
mine is connecting without screen on without problems
another happy WinMo Deserter suspect!!! Well done all!
Hi, thanks for the replies. Do you mean Bluetooth settings on the desire or the car?
On the phone. when I hold and tap on the pairing for the car it doesn't give me an auto connect option - it just has a check box for connect and profile.
My car doesn't have anything like this in the menus either ...
Am I being especially thick here?

For WiFi, Settings>Wireless & networks>WiFi Settings>[press menu]>Advanced>WiFi sleep policy
Only a couple of options but better than nothing.
No idea for bluetooth sorry.

Simulate tap on HTC "network" widget

Hello all,
I'm trying to control the "on/off" state of mobile data via my own application and while I know of APNDroid, I find it unreliable with my HTC Desire using the 2.2 OTA update (unrooted). It works two or three times, but once the screen has been turned off for quite a while, it no longer works.
However, tapping on the widget from HTC always works and so I was wondering if there is a way to simulate the tap on the widget.
For instance, I thought about sending an intent to the widget. But I'm not sure where to start as I have no idea what the name of that intent could be.
Does anyone have any clues as to where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.
Tasker is an excellent app and the latest beta of it now supports turning on and off mobile data using this toggle.
Hello,
I know about Tasker and am currently evaluating it.
It has two different tasks to control the mobile data, one internal (Mobile Data) and one using APNDroid (Mobile Data APN).
The former does not to work at all, while the latter only works until the screen turns off for more than 5 minutes.
Hence the reason why I'm looking for alternatives while waiting for replies on the Tasker groups.
You are saying that the latest beta supports turning on/off "using this toggle". What toggle are you talking about? Is that the HTC widget mobile data toggle?
If yes, how do I control it via Tasker? I did not find anything obvious.
Regards
i use switch pro widget and love it
I use switch pro, but some people claim its an APN renamer which its not (unless you tell it to be in the settings)
However it is possible to control htc's data connection as CM has built it into his modified power control widget (see CM6 roms).
As to the exact modification, I don't know as I have never taken said widget appart to see what he told it to do.
Supposing SwitchPro works ok, which I can not confirm as there is no demo version, how would you control it from Tasker?

[Q] Data connection control app?

Hi, anyone know of an app which will block all APN, always on mobile data - etc etc and only will permit them on demand with some designated applications?
I really want everything off but then when I check my email, or use a map, etc I don't want to have to be dealing with messages which tell me that data is disabled and I then have to go and activate the thing manually - and then remember to switch it off.
I want something which will automatically connect while my email program is running and then disconnect as soon as I shut it down.
I have an idea that JuiceDefender should be able to do this but most of JD doesn't seem to be working with a Desire HD. I have to accept the defaults - which means that a whitelist only starts to operate at battery - 15%.
It won't let me set it higher - although the functionality is meant to be there.
Anyway, I am sure that there is something around but I can't find it.
Can someone suggest something?
Ta
In fact I've purchased Ultimate Juice and more of the features are enabled - but it still doesn't seem to be fully compatible with the DHD
Either ultimate juice or switchoro widget.

Thanks - Switchpro, I think.
Juicedefender just about works but doesn't seemto control the wifi as well as it should.
Is Switchpro automated or is it just a collection of manual toggle widgets?

[Q] Llama Query

Hi
I've just loaded Llama to control my htc Desire according to my location. I think it's a great app, but there's only one thing I haven't been able to get it to do: toggle my APN on or off as an action. The app confirms the action, but nothing happens and I have to toggle the APN manually--not a great drama, I know, but I'm betting there's a way to do it.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks

GPS is in use without any app

Hello
On my One X, I can see the GPS search icon on the top notifications bar, even when no app is running. It comes and goes when I look on my home screen. It seems there is a service that tries to get the location.
My question: is there any way (or app) to see which service is currently using the GPS?
Thanks
The locations and weahter widgets on the homescreen?

 HA, You kill me, wrong forum for you
I guess that you could run "adb logcat" and check the log for GPS activicty.
If you search for LocationManagerService you should see that it tries to "request gps", and in that case the process id should be available. That way you can figure out what process that actually requested a GPS pos.
