damn that sucks... should i just go straight to samsung and act all stupid? like "i was updating and now it wont turn back on...."

I'd say T-mobile if possible, but if not just tell them something that wont make the warranty voiding actions obvious. They will probably know that this phone has yet to receive any updates though.
Really wondering whether it's Odin causing these issues or something with the recovery/phone itself. I don't think user error is the cause of these problems.

That's what happened to me. With the s3 being so new and since I bought it from t mobile I went up to the store I bought it from. I told them I put some music on it last night and this morning I restarted it and it didn't turn on. Then I told them I tried charging the battery all day so I don't think it is the battery (just so they already think it's a hardware issue) They replaced it with a brand new one. That was the solution for me. Let me know if it works.

Don't listen to this guy ^^^^^
If it doesn't turn on at all reseat the battery, plug it into the charger it nothing comes up at all bring it back to the store and exchange it.
First off learn from your mistakes. If you don't know what your doing why mess with something that isn't broken? Should have gotten some advice first. Can you get it back to download mode? You unplugged it from your computer to try and turn it on right? Hear that leaving it plugged wield cause it to not turn on. Don't quote me on that tho
To the OP..what exactly did you flash using Odin? Did you flash clockworkmod? If you did..have you tried to boot into cwm?

Try to return the phone its a software problem which will cost samsung nothing. Even if they had to replace your data storage hardware it would cost them nothing while you're taking a $600 hit for no reason. Use the resources available to you. Don't mind the blowhards they don't know what a brick is. Also make sure you research and try to fix it yourself first.

Discussion on how to lie to the carrier to get your phone replaced for free after bricking it is fraud and the discussion of such is against XDA rules. That is what insurance is for. You brick it, admit to it and pay the deductible for a new phone. If you do anything else, good luck but do not discuss it here!

"Turning Wi-Fi on..." continuously displaying

Hi all,
I know this seems to be a wide spread problem and I've read through several threads hoping to fix the problem but nothing seems to be really working for me :/
This first happened while I was running 4.0.3. Wifi was working fine. Then one day when I went to switch it on like I normally ever would, it seemed to get stuck at the "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message. Reboots didn't help anything.
So I decided to upgrade to 4.1.1 thinking that doing a factory reset and flashing a new ROM would fix things. Flashed Paranoid Android ROM with no problems (wiped data, dalvik cache, etc etc) and saw the same problem with wifi when I tried turning it on. Reboot did nothing. Tried flashing the boot.img manually and that did nothing. Tried flashing Trinity kernel and once again nothing.
Can anyone help me out? This is really killing me and I think it's also destroying my phone's battery life as well
My Galaxy Nexus is GSM yakju if that helps out at all.
Thanks!!
This was also my problem... except my phone rebooted every 2minutes... I just flashed stock everything and then sent it to Samsung

So any other suggestions other than dead wifi chip?
Unfortunately, your phones WiFi chip is dust! Same thing happened to me! Did some research and found out that its a known issue! Sent mine in and received a new Gnex four days later!

How does this work exactly? Do you need a receipt or anything? I'm guessing I need to flash back to stock rom and unroot? And probably call or talk to Samsung to get it set up? Any other details I'm missing?
Thanks!

Well for me, I bought GNEX from someone else and I had to ask the guy to give me the receipt cuz Samsung wouldn't take it unless I show proof that the phone was from Canada (I live in canada)
Also I would recommend flashing to stock uprooting and re locking... Just in case

Well I guess you have to contact your friend. Also, if you can't get a support from Samsung (I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't help you...) I guess you have to go to any repair shop, since it looks like a hardware problem.

Wind s3 touchscreen not working

Hi guys, I'm not asking this for myself as I have the rogers version and I'm quite experienced with flashing properly.
My friend has a wind (t999v) version of the s3,he does not know how to root or flash and he never did either. What he did was update his phone to the new jellybean firmware, the proper way. After the update his touchscreen stopped working. The menu button, back button, and settings buttons still work but everything else on the screen is non responsive. He brought it to the wind store and told them. They returned the phone and told him that it's his own fault for upgrading and wants 600 dollars to repair it.
I'm wondering if there is another solution for him before I try flashing some custom roms for him. Or whether flashing anything else will fix the issue because it doesn't seem like a software issue to me.
Sorry for such a long post and thanks in advance.
( samsung sends their phone to a third part to fix, and they were the ones that said there's nothing that they would do without 600)

He's with wind and they said that there is nothing they can do for him.

That's a bunch of BS. It's an OTA for goodness sakes. OTAs go through Samsung and then the telecom. So, if the OTA was available, it had to go through his telecom. If the OTA is the cause, for whatever reason, then they should honor that.
Seriously, that's BS.

[Q] help with softbrick.

I just bought this GS3 off of craigslist and it was rooted with paranoid android 3.1 which didn't have hands free activation so we couldn't activate the phone. when I brought it home I tried to flash the stock 4.1.2 rom from freeza in order to get the phone activated. it softbricked the phone and I lost recovery mode with it. I have tried twice to unbrick using odin and can't get it to work. someone PLEASE HELP.
update. after several failed attempts with this method
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmqJbZqOaU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
my final attempt turned it from a soft brick to a hard brick. the phone will no longer turn on for any reason. my computer does for whatever reason recognize if it is plugged in or not though so I'm getting something.
If the phone won't boot into anything but download mode i believe Odin is your only option.
Make sure it's a good usb cable and try different ports on your computer.

tried the method in the video several times with different usb ports and different usb cables. still don't have recovery mode and can't get past the samsung screen. I've even tried a couple of the older firmware files just to see if it had something to do with that. does samsung not have a bootloader to sideload a custom recovery from an sd card? this is the first sammy I've owned. I'm used to htc.
my last attempt turned it from a soft brick to a hard brick. wtf!!!
The phone is a SPH-L710 correct?

The last attempt I used the files from the video link. All the previous attempts were with two different files from Samsung-update.com. the guy I bought the phone from won't answer his phone either although it is next to impossible to ever get a refund from someone off of craigslist. Should have waited for the phone to be activated to pay him.

Yeah, scams are becoming more-and-more prevalent on Craigslist (although, it was never the most trustworthy place, in my opinion). It's becoming best policy to meet the person at the Sprint Store and have them activate the phone before you pay them.
The optimistic side of me says you should get the phone repaired (JTAG repair should work for you, this site has good reviews from XDA members). But the realistic side of me says that the person who sold you the phone probably reported it stolen to Sprint. As far as I'm aware, though, there's no way of checking without getting your phone fixed.
I'm sorry you got screwed on this. But you can take this as a life lesson, and insist on getting the phone activated before paying them money.
I don't think he reported it stolen. Tha part checked out at the store. The tech at the sprint store couldn't figure out how to activate the handset on paranoid android 3.1. A stock Rom should have fixed the issue but for whatever reason I screwed up recovery when I wiped the internal memory. I've done that several times on my nexus tablet and soft bricked it but was always able to fix it. I have no idea why the Odin method wouldn't fix the issue.

If that's the case, the $60 JTAG repair might be exactly what you're looking for.
There has got to be a way to unbrick it myself. I'd rather not pay someone to do something I know I can do myself if I can find the method.

The JTAG repair involves shorting something on the motherboard. A search on Youtube might give you directions. When it comes to electronics of this level, I know I don't trust my skills enough to solder. But if you're comfortable, it might work for you.
Shorting the resistor is pretty strait forward and doesn't require resoldering anything. Just don't have the jig for the phone. One of the sprint repair facilities in my are is working with me on a replacement. It is open enrollment atm for all protection plans and it covers waranty work. Lucky me. I'm only out an HTC EVO 4g LTE instead of that and a gs3.

S3 ATT Bricked Black Screen Will Not Boot.

Hey everyone. Thanks in advance. I have searched the forums, the web. Ended up here. I rooted my phone, added carbon rom. With goo download I think it was called. "Goo" something. Now my phone is dead. Will not boot to download mode. Will not turn on at all. The only time I can get anything response from the phone is when I pull the battery plug it in and hold the three buttons. The light stays red, but that is all. No activity from the screen. I have read the phone is "hard bricked" and that I basically need to buy a new phone. I hope that is not the case. Any help is much appreciated. Sorry if this is a repeat post, but after hours of research and no specific answers I felt this what the only way.
Thanks again!
My two suggestions...
1. Hold up (or was it down?) volume, home and power all at the same time. Until you get a reaction. Then figure it out from there
2. Your phone is done for.. Find out where the closest att service center is and say your phone screwed up during an update of theirs. Or just say your phone stopped working and hope for the best
A main question is, does your computer recognize your phone at all?

Thank you for the response. I tired 1 a hundred times and no luck. 2 is my next step tomorrow. BUT the weird thing, is if i pull the battery and plug it in the red charge light shows red. Also, having a PC the computer does the beep as if you plugged in something via USB. This i just recently discovered. Although i really dont think it matters. I also tried making a jig, no luck either. Most likely fail on my end with that.
At this point in time I think the best bet will be the ATT store. Unless someone has another solution, that is the only way I see it being fixed. Gotta read the details when you mess around with this stuff. Now I am paying the price.
Does Odin recognize it when you plug it in to the computer? Keep in mind you need the right drivers for it to recognize a working phone... And this is a longshot to day the least
