I read that the Motorola phones are able to Bluetooth tether without having to root to a Xoom. Is this also possible with a Verizon Xperia Play?

Verizon locks that ability out, so they can charge you for it.

According to this article, CM dev Koushik Dutta has released a free tethering app.

Has anybody been using this with their Nexus yet?
How does it work? What does it do to CPU and Battery Temps?
I'll be trying it when I get home from work today.
The stock android and the galaxy nexus has built in tethering so I see no need for this.
Not sure why it would be of interest to the galaxy nexus forums.

Koushs method is less detectable by carriers

It's of interest to the Verizon users of the Nexus because Verizon charges money to tether. This way we can tether for free.
I was under the impression it was USB tether only, and not wifi tether. There are already plenty of free USB Tether apps out, but this should be less detectable as others have said.
To each their own. I like Wifi tether myself.

It is USB Tethering only. I don't think he'll have WIFI tether working soon in the same fashion. USB tethering is great, as long as you're using a PC. What about if you're using an Android Tablet? Honestly, this doesn't really fix any problems for most of us, except the people that want to constantly tether at home and download extreme amounts of crap on their 'unlimited' plans......
I'd have to agree with dcoy82, alot of people prefer wifi over usb, cables are a hassle
I have android 4.2.2 with the tethering mod and I can't get my xbox to connect to my phone. Anyone have any solutions?

I have the WiFi only variant and under networking options in settings, I am given the option to tether. I tried it out, and it created a hotspot which I recognized with my phone.
What is the purpose of this? To share WiFi that other devices have access to already? Maybe as a network repeater?
Would really like to know the answer.
Thank you!

INNNNteresting... the Nexus 7 2012 has that feature removed on the 3G model - much to everyone's annoyance. I wonder if this means I'll be put back in on the 2013 model...

If the Wi-Fi only model has it, I don't see why not.
Still want to figure out the purpose of this though.
I have actually been looking for something that would allow me to tether from a wireless connection.
Not that I say that stealing WiFi is good, when I go to hotels, I can often spoof my mac address to gain connectivity to the network. Wondering if I can spoof address on my nexus, then tether to my laptop, even though this could just as easily be done on my laptop.

It extends the WiFi signal like a repeater

No. It doesn't.
I really don't know what purpose it would serve on a n7 WiFi. I use it in reverse, I will create a hotspot on my LTE phone so the n7 can piggyback on that when I don't have WiFi available.
you can use it to create a LAN and transfer files between devices...at very fast speeds...

I already use superbeam, which does a great job already. Not sure what other uses it could have.

My hotspot worked this way two days ago but now when started then original wifi connection is lost by the nexus?
Any ideas what I may have changed?

It could be for remote wireless charging, via your Qi. A little known feature called Wi-Qi.
jk LOL

I have noticed this too. I remember it would maintain WiFi connection with tether enabled, now it doesn't. Not sure if its due to the JSS15Q update or that I recently flashed Bulletproof kernel.

Anyone tried to use DS4 with SGS2 via BT or USB-OTG ?
Should work. I saw on note 3 with OTG
I don't think it'll work flawless because DS4 is having problems with Ps3 already

Probably, but WiFi tethering would be much easier.

USB is more secure.
I just ordered a pixel c last night. I can test with my Nexus 6P when it comes in for you
Also another reason for this is if you want to share a purchased wifi connection with another device (ex : Airplane or Hotel wifi)
Thanks. I was able to test it and it worked.
