Rooted but can't install rom

Okay just rooted my galaxy s 2 with the auto root, I want to install roms using rom manager but sometimes it will rom manager has denied super user permission but other times it will not say it all and it will download complete I hit install rom wipe everything then a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and the android dude on the side pops up and stays there, I take the battery out then put it back in and it takes me to the recovery system but it only says reboot now, apply update, wipe data, and wipe cache with the triangle with an exclamation mark in it and the android dude still showing behind it. Any clue to what can be wrong?
Sounds like you haven't flashed a custom recover, if you have unlocked the bootloader already then you may be able to flash clockworkmod recovery from within rom manager,
Not sure I have an evo 3d

What do you mean by haven't unlocked bootloader?
I hold the vol. down, power and home button at the same time then vol up to continue it says Odin Mode, product name SPH-D710, Custom Binary download: NO, Current Binary: Samsung official....Downloading do not turn off target!! Been on the screen for a while now.

No u just need Clockwork Mod recovery to flash a rom rom manager won't do it, I had this problem and really rooted again with a method that included clockwork mod in it. I have a Mac so I don't think it'll be the same way but try this. If u can go to the ACS website they are always easier.

First, just to make sure, you wrote Galaxy S 2 in your OP, but you are on the E4GT (Sprint) version correct?
If you are, and used sfhub's Auto Root, did you proceed to option 'C'? If not, you have not yet installed a custom recovery, which is what you need to install custom ROMs.
Try this, hold [Power] + [Vol. Up] at the same time for several seconds (30+.) If you are booted into CWM recovery, you will be all set to flash ROMs, if not you still need a kernel with CWM (option C in the auto root process.) Based on your comments in the OP, you do not have a custom recovery. I believe you described the stock recovery.
Easiest thing to do is go back to the Auto Root batch file and complete option C. This will give you recovery without increasing your custom software counter (counter = bad for warranty.)
Yes I'm with sprint and no I didn't proceed with c thanks for informing me I will try to see if it works. Thanks.

[Q] Cannot get into CWM after SFhub Autoroot

Hey guys I rooted my eg4t with autoroot from SFhub and I downloaded ROM manager from the market to get into CWM but I get a triangle with an exclamation point when I try to boot into recovery. I tried the lost kernal with CWM and I flashed it with odin and I do not want to do that again because I lost wifi. So I am thinking about flashing Calkulins eg4t but since I cannot get into CWM what should I do at this point.

After you use the autoroot, there are other options in the autoroot menu to install CWM. The autoroot, I believe, only adds root to your phone. CWM needs to be added additionally.

This exactly ^^
This video explains getting CWM after you have root access: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZRnH-_XZmM
And our phone does not have ROM Manager support, so that app is basically useless at this time.
No shiznit now i feel dumb thanks guys

Nah don't feel dumb, you just didn't realize. I've made similar errors in the past.

BTW if you got the yellow triangle then that didn't come from the Auto Root package. You must have done something else at some point to put a kernel on your phone that wasn't signed by Samsung.
Nothing Auto Root does nor any of the ODIN tar packages I put together will trigger the yellow triangle nor will they increase the ODIN flash count.

This is probably what caused your yellow triangle.

If he didn't have cwm installed he probably went into download mode instead which shows that yellow triangle but not the error one

Well he did say he tried to flash a kernel that had CWM included in the kernel by using Odin in the OP, and doing that will trigger the yellow triangle.

[Q] Going back to stock using CWM

Hi,
as my usb board is broken and need to send my GNEX back to my retailer. But I have to bring it back to stock first.
Is there a way to get the phone back to stock without ODIN/Fastboot?

Did you make a backup of your Stock Rom?
you could flash that in CWM. I think you'll be okay like that
Already did that, but then I'm still on CWM recovery instead of stock recovery, what would mean that I cannot use my warranty for a three months old phone :-/
Here, this should save you

Mobile Odin.
Just flash a stock rom (the one that has a recovery included, it will overwrite cwm)

His USB connection is broken.
After flashing recovery.img with Mobile Odin the Recovery doesn't work anymore.
Just the Droid with red exclamation mark, however the Bootloader/System working fine.
Any chance to get stock recovery working again?

Missed that part
That recovery with the little android and red exclamation mark is stock recovery, i believe.

[Q] Dissapearing recovery mode?

I noticed when I first got the phone that there was surprisingly no recovery mode. I'd get into bootloader and try to enter recovery and I get the dead android guy with a red triangle. Well I recently rooted and installed touchwiz recovery and was able to boot into it exactly once. After that though it does the same thing of giving me the dead android with the red triangle. Phones is barely a month old so do I just need to take it back to stock and return it or whats going on?

Sounds like you didn't remove/rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p
This file flashes the stock recovery every time the phone boots. The recovery you describe is the stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357642
Delete boot-from-recobery.p
If you have rooted your device, detele boot-from-recobery.p in "/system"
Yup. that fixed that. Wonder why that step wasn't in any of the how-to's I read. LOL.
It's in mine =]

Just some background for learning purposes:
There are TWO files added to your system when you apply an OTA update: a script (/system/etc/install-recovery.sh) that applies a patch (/system/recovery-from-boot.p) to the recovery partition, effectively re-flashing the stock recovery every time you boot your device. These files do NOT exist in Google's factory images -- they are only placed on your device if you apply an OTA update. They serve no purpose other than what I just mentioned, and are not part of the stock ROM (in other words, deleting them is perfectly safe, and will not affect your ability to apply any future updates using CWM).
I'm having the same problem. I can't get into the recovery mode. I just see a red triangle with an exclamation point.
Here's what I have done so far with my G-Nex. I had mine originally at 4.0.4 Yakjuxw. I received an OTA update to 4.1.1 JRCO03C and started to have some wifi issues. I did plan to flash it back to 4.0.4.
I used Mark Skippen's toolkit (the DOS-like GUI) to unlock the bootloader, to root, and to flash it to 4.0.4 IMM76I Google factory, and finally to root it again.
After reading more about manual ADB commands of doing the steps I've done above for further learning, I found out I can't get into the recovery mode.
I checked on the /system/recovery-from-boot.p and the file do not exist.
Will trying to flash a custom or stock recovery fix it?
TIA
The red triangle screen IS the stock recovery, but flashing CWM should sort it out

Yes. Except that I don't have any options to choose from. I only got a picture of a lying android with the red triangle screen and an exclamation point.
Yeah, that's normal for the Nexus...

I see. I hope you could bear with me more as I'm new with this. Will flashing custom recovery require me to do a cleanup of my files, I mean like wiping dalvik-cache and everything?
Shouldn't do, just flash it when in the bootloader

To get the options when you are on that screen, just hold power and press volume up. More details can be found in the "basics" link in my signature.
Thanks guys for this. I came across this thread as I was flashing my GNexus back to stock as I'm selling it tomorrow. I've run custom recovery ever since I got this phone and I forgot how a stock recovery looked like.
I was going crazy reflashing the recovery.img via fastboot only to see the red triangle and the android lying on its back which is normal. I was expecting a similar recovery with less selection on the menu for the stock recovery.

always happen

excuse me, when i want go to stock recovery, why always red triangle appear? i'm from cwm before, then i flash the stock recovery for ota update. please help me

it's because it's STOCK recovery, it's to stop people who accidently go into it from doing things to they're phones, you need to reflash CWM to have the ability to flash rom's etc etc
