Final edit: LoS Checker is up! Please head over there for further discussion!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18915457
EDIT: I have it working! Need some testers in #samsung-epic-touch on freenode. MUST know adb! Please come and test!
I'm reposting this from my ROM thread. I hope someone can help me out! If you have LoS and can help, please send me a PM ASAP and I will PM you my gTalk and walk you through this!
I think I may finally have an idea about the LoS bug and how to temporarily fix it without Tasker!!
If anyone goes LoS and knows how to use ADB (preferably, however, Root Explorer or similar would work) PLEASE let me know! I need to confirm something! If this happens, someone hop on ADB or check in Root Explorer to see if this exists:
Code:
/sys/devices/virtual/net/eth0
or
Code:
/sys/devices/virtual/net/ppp0
If either exists, I need a copies of the folders. Zip them up and post it please! Please also let me know if you were on wifi or not at the time.
EDIT: Also, please run this as well and get me the output:
Code:
netcfg
EDIT2: Please run these commands in adb shell as well, during the LoS and after. Very important!!
Code:
service call connectivity 4
and
Code:
service call connectivity 5
Thanks guys!
I haven't had one since I flashed the latest Zedomax kernel, but I'll do it if it happens.
I'm on the stock kernel and I happen to be in a low signal area today which seems to be when it happens to me. I'll make sure to do this for you if I find my phone LoS'd

And thanks ayman, but I need the files when the phone is currently LoS. I believe that folder won't be there when the phone goes LoS. If it goes away, that's good news for my next step in development. If it stays, I need the folder so I can sift through it. Thanks anyway man.

Updated the first post, the most important info is the service call stuff. I have forced the phone to shut the cell radio off using a command but I need to verify that LoS looks the same way to the phone as it does when I force the radio off. Please help out development
If i get one and ill post my stuff here

The folder doesn't go away, I had my friend test it for me but he couldn't get me the files. (I've never personally had LoS)
OK, I think I have a solution for this. I found a way to identify if the phone really does go LoS. I will post about it in my ROM thread in a little bit.
Who wants to test?! Head into IRC!
I'm up for testing later this week!
If I turn my airave off I'll get them at a comical rate.

I've had them occur while in the same room with my airave.
Really? I've had a few with the airrave. I usually know because txt messages start failing, but it's mostly when I get little to no service.
I'm sure that I'll have a LoS by tomorrow afternoon, I actually just restarted my phone after one, so it'll likely be another hour or three.
I'll have at least one or two by tomorrow afternoon, so I'll post then.
This is frickkkkkkin awesome
Hoping for good news soon

This just happened about 24 hours ago to me. i noticed it says "unable to start wifi" also i think that affected my wireless tether.
My phone has the simple root done to it. I have Astro File Manager, ROM Manager, and like i said before i did the simple root with Unrevoked3. i am a mac user, i dont know if this second paragraph of information helps.
What should i do? should i just wait for the update to 2.2 that is supposed to be updated to my phone sometime soon? i tried restoring from an old backup and also tried to do a full system clean as well but still same thing. I am a newbie to this but i feel as though i have somewhat of a grasp on this.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
You guys sure keep the mods busy around here.

that suggestion didnt help
I feel your pain, most responses around here aren't helpful... just negative... you'd think that if someone took the time to reply they'd just share... typical forum behavior though.
I can’t seem to find a clear answer on this… some say it works, others say it’s broke.
*watching in hopes someone can help*
yeah i am just hoping i get the 2.2 update soon and it fixes it. so i am guess i am gonna have to wait until then and then take it from there. unless someone has some ground breaking suggestion. cause, i've been looking around and it seems like this is a problem thats been occurring as of recently.

I have sky raider 2.5.2 and my wifi keeps trying to connect then obtain ip address then disconnects and keeps trying all over again why please?
so since nobody gave me any good feedback i decided to take on the task like a blank canvas.
Step 1: Reinstalled original Kernel
step 2: Full Data/Cache Wipe
step 3: reuploaded all of my data from last backup...
it appears everything is working fine.WIFI works great!!! I need to double check wifi tethering though. if anyone is interested i can repost if tethering is working.
I need testers for an early build of infinity2 for the Nexus S 4G it is highly likely it WILL NOT, and is currently basically a stock AOSP rom with Netarchy and SU, busybox etc.
I need feedback on whether this boots, installs on your Nexus S. I do not expect it to, and if it does, there will probably be something missing. Please help me with this, as I really need testers otherwise I can't release this myself.

Thankyou, haven't applied CDMA stuff yet (Wimax too)
Edit: building with Wimax apk and settings, still needs other stuff for correct working but I want to see if this caused it. Also allows download of any file type (thanks to eddieringle).
New download up at the same URL, please download again
Making a backup now, will install and report back as soon as backup is finished.
Update: Boots, no service and get an error when trying to turn on wifi.
Anything else you want tested before I go back?

Please test this new version, should have a working 4g vendor (thanks mikeyinid) also, LWP and default wallpapers should be included as well.

Booted for me, connected to Sprint, connected to Google Servers, connected to wifi. No 4G in my city yet so I can't test that but everything else seems to be working. Gmail, Market and other Gapps are working. What are your plans with this? Like I have said I will continue to test when needed. Right now it seems like stock Rom rooted. I do like your boot screen animation though.

Hey guys,
Please dont flame if this doesnt work, BUT after i got a LOS event, i decided to go into the ##DATA# menu to just look around for any sort of settings to help.
I did ##data#, then EDIT, then enter your MSL. i went into Other>Multimedia, backed out, then DSS.
My radio reset itself and got reception/data back!
Give it a try next time u got a LOS problem and report back here....

I followed that all the way to the DSS. What do you mean by that?

Rebooting seems a lot simpler and less of a chance of screwing up any default settings. unless Samsung comes out with a new modem software , im sticking to rebooting. Besides, my phone doesn't really loose signal, only happened once so far since launch day. Just lucky I guess.
My phone gets LOS only when I'm in certain areas, and I used to do a reboot whenever I noticed it.
Now I just have a tasker profile set up so that whenever I get LOS, the phone reboots automatically, unless I'm using it. LOS doesn't bother me anymore.

Please show how you have done this. I can't seem to figure out how to set that variable.
This worked for my LOS issue but make sure you have the stock kernel before trying it.
Some users said this worked for them. I just tried it this morning so time will tell.
***I think you need the stock Kernel or else you might get a bootloop
The MSL can be found by downloading "terminal emulator" and typing "getprop ril.MSL" It is case sensitive.
From there, go to the phone, and type ##72786# , at the SCRTN screen select yes, let the phone reboot, let the activation go through its thing NOT TOUCHING THE SCREEN unless it tells you to. Let it do a reboot again.

Yes. There's a 95% chance you'll get LOS. Some times, you can go into Roaming, but then when you try to go to Automatic, you'll get LOS. Because Roam Control itself's method of changing networks is turning off the radio. The issue is LOS prevents it from turning back on.
Haha sorry guys, I was asleep. Of course I'll share!
I made a new thread for this because I don't want to interrupt the OP's thread. It can be found here:

Cheers.
I haven't had LOS in over TWO WEEKS!!
All I did was odin the stock kernel on top of my stock rooted rom and voila the yellow triangle at boot up was gone.
I still have all my su permissions for wifi tether and other apps that need su permission. I only lost my cwm recovery, but I don't need that when the rom is stable, phone works perfect and does not LOS EVER!!!
Coming from the Evo 4G I had Juice Defender Ultimate installed on it and carried it over into the Epic Touch. For the longest time I was having issues with LOS and through trial and error and a couple flashed kernels and ROMS, at least one thing I do know now is that this program on extreme setting will kill signals on the Epic. IDK why this is because I used the extreme setting on the Evo. I changed it to "Aggressive" instead of Extreme and my issues with LOS are pretty much done.

Hey everyone, got another official rom for you guys.
I've been building for a few weeks now, all running pretty smoothly on the AT&T variant. Hit me up if you guys find any issues with the Sprint build. I don't have one myself, so I am unable to test.Official CM based, so e975 kernel.
Check it out here: http://codefirex.com/index.php?p=/discussion/258/rom-ls970-4-3-cfx-toolchain-4-8-y-codefirexperiment-nightlies
The good news: Data and GPS seem to work right off the bat, across reboots.
The bad news: It seems that I can't send texts. Also, the signal icon in the statusbar never shows any bars (though it does show the 3G icon). It appears as if I have a dead signal 100% of the time, even though I'm able to browse the internet (albeit very slowly) and make calls.
Thanks for your work!

Out of curiosity, I just compared sources between CM and cfXe and not really sure what I was looking for, I removed one line from the cfXe sources, built it, and boom, everything is now working:
device/lge/ls970-common/ls970-common.mk
remove line 187, ro.telephony.ril_class=LgeLteRIL \
I'm not entirely sure of the consequences, but I was getting 3G and 4G, and SMS and MMS were sending both over 3G and Wifi. Also, I noticed a dead touch area on the screen, not sure if it is my device only, but the easiest way to get there is to go to settings, and then try to click on bluetooth.
edit: looks like I have a busted digitizer
Anyone mind testing out this build? It looks like it is not quite there from my side, but I figured I may as well have someone test it out to be sure. The issue is that it is using the GSM ril instead of the ls970 specific CDMA ril. If this does not work, I should be able to get another one out real soon that does fix the issue.

First things first. Upon initial setup, the first thing that it asks you to do is to insert the device's SIM card. Obviously that doesn't apply to us CDMA folks. It allows you to skip this step, so I did. after a few seconds the phone connected to sprint and 3G data appears to be working. Signal bars are working. I was able to sign in to my google account. I haven't rebooted because I can't test much right now, but the basics seem to be working on initial boot. Can't test GPS right now. Also can't test SMS right now, apologies.

Testing this build out myself since I also have nothing to do. So far, everything is extremely fast, fluid, and stable! Have working data and everything (But then again, I'm one of the few lucky ones who never had any problems with data ). Gonna test out MMS soon. Only real problem I have with 4.3 AOSP ROMs really is the SMS issue where texts don't send over 160 characters. But I flashed the 4.2.2 messaging apparently, which usually fixes that. So far so good, though! I'm really digging it.

From what I can tell, that "fixed" data, but is still not quite correct. It is most likely just using a generic ril, and not the CDMA RIL that it is supposed to. I am going to do another test build real quick here, then hopefully push the fix before the next nightlies run.
EDIT:
Can someone test out this real quick? I am almost positive this should fix the issue, but I just want to be sure before I push.

I will be. I am the official maintainer of the AT&T and Sprint LGOG for CodefireXperiment.
Ok so first off, been using XDA for a while now to root various things, you guys have always got me what I need to get things figured out on my own, I have never before this day had to request help and for that, you guys are legendary.
Now I am semi newbi here, I know whats what for the most part but I have a hard time holding information in my short term memory so I am sorry if I miss little things
On to the problem!
So I got an AT&T LG Nitro HD P930, on ebay, I then spent the better part of a day rooting it, took me a lot of work but I eventually got it rooted and all that jazz, everything was going great... but everything changed when the fire nation... wait no... when I put CM9 on it, that crashed quite often, so I put on CM11 to check that out, no Data, so I rolled back one to CM10.2, and still no Data.
Could I have missed something?
Edit:
I thought at one point the ImeI might have gotten pushed out, but I double checked that and it is there, I have noticed at times I look at the service and it says I have 4 bars and an E next to it like back in the 2G days, but rarely and I have not had it stay long enough to test the data but if I get the chance I will edit and leave what happened here.
Also to note, I do still get random crashes but I can live with that.
P.S.S. XDA Devs are the shiznit, thank you guys for many years of amazing rom's and HP Touchpad support, my tablet is nothing without you guys!
Potential fix
Ok so admitadly I may have jumped the gun on not finding anything via the search function, I did find something digging around that might help me out. just incase anyone else checks this thread due to the same issue I will post back here if it worked, I found the fix on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521525
Posted by Kaos420 about half way down.
Now to test it!
Issues "Unbricking"
So my second go around seems to be having trouble taking off, I cant seem to get the V10F to flash to my device following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488 exactly as it is. always just reboots into my old OS. Any advice?
Edit: Noticed I forgot to rename V10F correctly and tried again, seems to be running smoother, feel like a total noob...
Have you checked you apn settings ?
Fixed it

I had read something about that and had a backup of my APN but it turns out you cant flash APN data after 4.0+ or some such nonsense.
In the end I managed to get the root to take hold after restoring it from unbrick up, now I have CM9 on it and it is working just shiny. so this thread can be deleted or closed or whatnot.
If anyone would like a step by step on what I did I would be glad to post it but I doubt anyone is interested.
Good thing you got it working. And CM9 was so nice and stable for the Nitro. I often think of reverting back to it just for its reliability.

I would appreciate you doing that. I'm on CM11 with no data.

Its been a while since I did it but I will see if I cant gather all the resources I used, but in the end what I had to do was re-brick it, reverted back to stock everything to recover and re-rooted it all again, then I just skipped CM11 and went back to CM10. Now I am in a whole new **** storm haha but thats a story for another time.
