Hello everyone!
I have rooted HTC Wildfire with cyanogenmod 7.1.
When I plug it in PC via USB everything seems to be ok.
Then I copy some files >5MB to the sd card.
At the begining transfer looks good, however after 10s transfer stoped.
USB connection is lost and the problem appears every time I try to copy files on my SD Card.
If I try to do it by Remote Deskotp via Wi-Fi everything is ok even with large files.
If I try to do it in Recovery mode the speed is very low (about 1,5MB/s) however it works.
I also checked today CN 7.0 and last NIGHTLY - the same issue.
The second issue appears rarely. After lost usb connection my phone gets freeze and I have to pull my battery out and reset it
I have searched all the Internet and nobody has problem with lost connection on Wildfire. Everyone has problem with extremly low transfer speed via USB...
But I cannot copy files on my SD card through USB
Please help me
I also have the same problem with CM 7.1 Stable. Connect a USB, computer detects it and after that I disconnected. In my case, does not block my phone.
Is there a solution for this problem?

Can you tell me where I can find "another kernel" ?
Since yesterday I have flashed phone for the first time.
How can I check my current kernel?

OK, I have KERNEL: 2.6.35.14-nFinity.
Can you tell me which kernel helped you with the problem?
The same as yours...the usb connectivity for me works... have you tried to flash another rom?

I have checked CN 7.0, CN 7.1 and NIGHTLY full-239 - the same issue.
Now I'm using nightly full-239.
There must be problem with writing on SD card. Few houres ago I took 2 pictures and I got a message: SD disconnected.
Ofcourse capture pictures had not been saved and I had not have access to SD card.
After that I rebooted my phone and took more then 10 pictures and everything was OK...
SD is brand-new and on Android 2.2 with sense everything worked.
When I reading anything from SD card there is no errors. They appears during writing.
Backup your SD data somewhere, perform a full format (Not a quick format), and try again. Also, are you using any A2SD scripts/apps?
Do you mean full format of SD card? I think I have tried to do sth like that...
I have only quick office on SD card however before I have done it the issue has also performed.
Then I guess you have to for elimination of options. There can be only two cases - Bad SDCard or ROM issues. While I personally don't think it is a ROM issue (I use CM7 myself, and transfer stuff to my phone over USB on almost a daily basis), you can try going back to the stock ROM to check if the issue persists. Alternately, try borrowing an SDcard from somewhere else(If you don't have a spare), and check again (Preferably, after reflashing the ROM)
I have taken some trials and here are the results. If you don't have time read my summary please.
I change my max mhz (from 691) to 576 and then:
1) pull out my "bad" 8GB SD and insert my old 4GB SD
(reboot caused by taking out/in SD)
-I copied more then 800MB on it with no problems....
2) Insert again "bad" 8GB SD (no reboot)
- copied more then 500MB with no problems...
So I have changed my max mhz to 691
3) the same sd
- copied 800MB and everything seemed to be OK, however my phone got freeze. Reboot necessary by pulling the battery out.
-copied once again 800MB music - THE SAME EFFECT
As previously, the home button was able to back to home screen
and after disconnect usb cable there was information about it in upper bar.
So it wasn't full freeze however reboot necessary by pulling the battery out.
4) Back to 576 Mhz with no reboot
-Unfortunately point 3) and battery reboot
5) Correct reboot
-as above then reboot caused by taking out/in SD.... (?)
6) Thanks to reboot caused by taking out/in SD file transfer at 576Mhz was completed and phone did not get freeze...
7) Changed to 691Mhz, in/out SD - without 'auto' reboot...
file transfer completed without getting freeze !
SUMMARY:
SD card is good - Brand-new, micro sd Sandisk 8GB SDHC
When I take out/in my SD card it may cause reboot.
Thanks to taking out/in both at 576MHz and 691Mhz file transfer via USB works correctly and phone don't get freeze.
Transfer speed is ~2,5MB/s in all causes.
There was also no problem on the stock ROM (android 2.2.3 with Sense)
I really do not understand it. Can anybody explain me what the matter is?
To my mind it is not normal way to complete transfer with a good result...
I can add that my min frequency is all the time 352MHz..

Hi!
I tried searching the forums for the problem but couldnt find anything related to mine!
I have a problem where the phone suddenly just says "No write access to file" when i try listening to stuff on spotify, take pictures etc... Yet i can access the SD on ASTRO.
Has anyone else noticed this one? Any tips? Rebooting the phone fixes the issue for a while.
Same issue here. I found in other android related forums a lot of people complaining about this as well - seams there's no solution yet (reboot helps in my case - format the card didn't). Some people reported that a change of the sdcard hasn't solved anything. I guess we have to replace the device.

Don't give up yet, if you are running a task killer, remove it and try without it.
As I said on the other thread, I removed it and I'm now testing it. Atleast now it seems to sync Spotify's offline playlists without errors..

I have no task killer running but still the above mentioned issue. I also removed the sd-card and put it back in several times. I cleaned carefully the contacts of the sdcard, removed ALL apps but it still happens every other day.
And no, the desire wasn't plugged into the pc via USB. m(
i had the similar kind of issue. when I switch on the phone from standby mode.. sometimes it says "cannot backup the phone data.. SD card not accessble". When I opened the Estronge File manager I can see no files under the SDcard..
This problem has started to me only after I have installed ebuddy and started using it. Then I have uninstalled the ebuddy and till now i did not get this problem again (3days tested after uninstall)
You can give a try by uninstall any recently installed apps.. my doubt is some apps are creating this issue on slow writting SD cards (my Sd card is Class 2)..

Been there, done that! *sigh* It happens also with no apps installed (plain stock)
Also just happened to me after installing a Touchdown update - camera was reporting no access to SD card and Astro (file navigator) was showing some weird behaviour (opening the 'download' folder took me back to the home screen)
A reboot appears to have solved it but a bit worrying
Not sure if this is 100% related, but I'll include it here. This didn't happen to me at the start but has started happening in the last few days.
I've had my phone set up to connect by default as a disk drive without asking me. Now when I connect to my computer, I get the message on my computer that there is something wrong with the drive and it needs to be scanned and corrected. I don't because I don't always trust Windows auto corrective measures, you can't always go back.
The problem really kicks in when I connect my Desire to the computer and it (the computer) says card needs to be formatted. As soon as I get this message, I know it's all over. I can't access the SD card on computer or from the phone. When I disconnect, the phone says the SD card is empty, and I get the small SD card with question mark up in the top right of the notification bar.
My system is running Win 7 x64.
I get the same problem every other day with the "cannot backup the phone data.. SD card not accessble". I also got an error message when trying to download an email attachment saying that there was no storage space but Astro shows around 6gb free on the sd!

you have another sdcard than the stock SanDisk 4GB card, I guess? If so, could you tell us what sdcard you are running?
I have had the same problem as reported above (backup error) recently. A reboot solves it, but not permantely.. (I also had a problem where the home screen froze, but the lockscreen worked fine. I guess it could be related but I don't know...)
It's a bit annoying with these kind of problems..

It just happen again after I replayed to a text messages..
I started my terminal emulator and checked if the sd card was still mounted (which it appeared to be). But noticed that it's set to remount as read only on errors (Not saying it's the problem, just that it may be the cause of the symptoms..)
Then I checked the rights (ls -l -d /sdcard) It was set to ---rwxr-x (owner: system, group: sdcard_rw) = Owner has no rights, group has full right and others read & execute only..
Also one thing I noticed was that the date was set to 1970-01-01 01:00 (aka start of "unix-time"). That can happen, but it still seemed a bit strange..
BUT: Apparently, that is the way it's "supposed to be", as after a reboot it says the same..
This was just an update on my experience with this error, and what I've tried (so far)..
Stock Rom and card and it is happening to me periodically.

Update: A working solution?
I read on another forum where they (Vodaphone actually) recommended that you reformat the card if you have this sort of problems... So I thought: What a heck.. It can't become worse..
These is the steps that I did (pretty straightforward..) and it works (for about two days now without any big problems..)
Backup the card
You probably don't want to do that using Windows... (You can download free Linux Live-CDs from Ubuntu.com or other places)
Why?? For me, and I don't doubt you may encounter something similar, Windows wanted to reformat the SD Card before it mounted it (DON'T do that if you want to backup your files [and I'm not sure on what the phone would think about that]).
I guess it could work Fine in Mac OS X (but I haven't tested..)
Reboot the phone (mine had trouble recognizing the card after I had disconnected it from the computer)
Go to Settings > SD and phone memory (* ) >Unmount SD Card > Format SD card
Reboot again (not shure if it's needed but just to be sure)
Connect to the computer and put your data back on (be careful, the best is perhaps to only transfer "your stuff" and not replace any files that already are on the card). AND BEFORE you pull out the cable, make sure you unmount the card from your computer!!!!
Done!
(* Translated from Swedish, don't know what it says exactly in English.. )
If you need directions for how to use Linux for this, feel free to contact me..
Try doing a google search for h2testw its a bit of software that can be downloaded that test SD cards and removable drives. I recently had a problem with a new card ran that and it told me that the card had a problem, I sent it back and got a new card and don't have any problems now although they were different to what you were experiencing.
I get the same issue about once enery couple of days. I'm first alerted to it when I get a notification saying the automatic backup has failed, then no writes are allowed to the SD card. It's solved temporarily by rebooting.
Phone is stock, Orange ROM, stock 4Gb card. I use HTC sync and often use the phone in disk drive mode.

All my issues disappeared after i removed the task killer.
Just today, I've started getting issues. It *only* happens when I try to open Spotify. It was working fine this morning on my way to work, but now every time I open the app, the SD card gets mounted as read only. I have used Quick App Clean Cache, and wiped the cache within Spotify itself. Rebooted, powered off, removed and reinserted SD card, and nothing fixes it. ****ing annoyed and pissed off that this keeps happening.
After RoufianosV2.5 rom up..
Mounted Readonly SD card
The SD card has an unexpected problem....
Help me!!!
me too ><
and this was how i solved the problem,i unmounted the micro sd card under the SD & phone storage options then remounted it again. thats how i solved it, hope it helps.
I think that reason is your Room. to me, i used old Room (V1.9 in xda forum) i always see this problem. You put SD-card out and put card reader in, click right--->properties-->tools--->check--->select to fix. Hope you will fix this. The best way, I recommend that you should use other room more stable such as LeeDroid v1.8 (I am using it)
This happens to me on LeeDroid 1.8 as well.
Looks like I'm moving back to OpenDesire (TBH...the only reason I changed was to get psx4droid working )
I switched my sd card to old phone and connected to pc (you could use card reader instead), windows 7 recognized error and offered me to fix it, that's how I solved the problem.
Avoid using phone for data transfer until they find better solution...
Happening to me too using LeeDroid 1.8
The problem seems to be in some corrupted image files. Some of my images just suddenly become corrupted and when I open the gallery and it tries to load the thumbnail of the image the sd card goes into read only mode. I managed to fix it by finding the corrupted images, opening them on photoshop and saving them again, but the problem is coming back all the time.
Hey gang,
In messing with my mother-in-law's new Sprint HTC EVO 4G, I think I screwed up the SD card; when I try to wipe the Davlik cache, it errors that there is no sd-ext mounted, and windows (several machines) will not read the contents of the sd card. One laptop will bring it up as a removable drive, but when clicked it says "insert media" - on the file browser on the phone I can see all the contents just fine, but now can't copy anything to the card via the USB cable.... when i plug it in, the phone asks if i want to use the SD card or charge, I choose charge, it goes back to home screen and at the bottom you can see it "preparing SD card" again.
What did I do, and how do I fix?! Please and thank you!

Are you using the same cable every time you've tried it? Perhaps the cable is bad? So you're able to access the contents of the card fine from using a file browser on the phone? If that's the case, most likely your card is fine, and the problem lies within the USB cable. I would try another USB cord if you have access to one. (the evo's stock USB cable sucks, and are known to fail from time to time)
Do you have a card reader? If so, does the computer read the card fine when it's inserted directly into the card reader?

1. The Sd-EXT message is fine; it skips that partition because you don't have it set up, so no harm done there.
2. If you have a card reader, I'd mount it to the pc, copy the contents to the pc, format the sd card [make sure its fat 32], then copy the contents back.
I'll try another cable, however, I should say that I was able to use the same cable and my HTC Inspire to read just fine; having said that, there is a crack at the base of the cable that plugs in to the phone, so I'll certainly be willing to try another cable; I even unmounted the card in both devices, took the card out of her EVO and put it in my Inspire, and it was read just fine..... that further complicated my dilemma.

You can always try that route.
You'll never believe this...........
I still had the .zip for mywarn's ROM that I tried first (that was draining the battery like CRAZY), it's booted up and windows sees it fine now..... ??!?!??! - I had the Kings Alliance ROM installed while it failed. Working now though - I tried replacing the kernel as suggested in another thread (that's currently on page 2 but only for a few Im sure lol) and the drain still seemed significant. Losing roughly one percent a minute.... thanks for the replies guys, I'll keep ya posted... think I'm gonna try gingerbread-evo-deck 1.2 now.... we'll see what happens.
If you have that bad of battery drain, you can try downgrading to PRI 1.77. The latest PRI has also been very good to me.
I just installed gingerbread-evo-deck 1.2 and it has no market! How do I obtain a market icon if it's not in the ROM?

You know, I never believed in this, but last night I did flash back to 1.77 and my phone's only been off the charger now for 30 minutes, but for the first time since I started using Mik's GB/Sense ROM and can't use SBC, I'm still sitting at 100% instead of the typical 5% drop right off the charger.
So been trying to work out this issue for past couple of days now. Galaxy W (obviously) PACman rom.
Updated to the latest version of rom, all fine but didn't go pristine. Eventually had some issues, biggest of which being I couldn't access internal SD card as storage, yet all my apps were working fine. So, tried again, went pristine, all fine for about a day, no issues whatsoever .... until dreaded internal sd unmounted. Tried again, pristine, double formatting everything and double clearing cache etc. No problems. Updated kernel to skull kernal to fix the bluetooth. No problems.
And now again, it's happened. I've tried to keep a mental correlation in what I'm doing to hopefully give me an idea of what's going on but not having much luck; hoping someone here knows what this issue is as it's driving me mad
I've changed my name in Google; could it be some sort of permissions thing?
USB; phone set to Media player, it might be it's happening after I've transferred but since everything is working fine, it's hard to tell
I've not restored anything, gone completly pristine (took hours) in an attempt to retrace my steps and not get this issue again. Part of me thinks I may as well just leave it as everything works, I can even install fine. But I can't browse it via any file manager or via USB, and a couple of programs I use (CoPilot for one) won't start properly because there is no SD card mounted.
Things I've tried -
CWM, fix permissions
Reboot
Checked Storage under settings, I can see how much free space there is etc.
Enabled and Disabled USB Debugging and tried to see it on my PC (nothing, external shows up fine)
Anything else anyone can think of before I wipe the lot and try again for a 4th time?

No idea why it's doing it, but yeah, seems to be the USB transfer. Problem solved.
So changed USB from Media Player to MTP and back again while connected to PC, internal storage now available.

After a reboot, same again. Everything "works", I can install and uninstall, but I can't browse the internal sdcard0 with a file manager or via PC. The above trick isn't working now.

Just thought I'd give it one last bump. Situation is that after every reboot, my internal sdcard is not mounted. I have to connect the phone to a PC via USB, then disconnect and hope that the phone mounts both sdcards. Usually works first time but sometimes I have to connect - disconnect 2-3 times before the internal card is mounted.
Anyone happen to know how to mount the internal card via command line? I could then workaround it with a script via smanager.

Hey guys and girls!
This morning my phone turned off by itself (13% battery left) and needed somewhat longer than usual to reboot (in the meantime I plugged it back in to the charger). First thing I noticed was that my whole theme got reset as well as it started showing me introductional tips ("long press here to move your apps to the homescreen, ecc.). It also started to update apps in the Play Store even though I set it to manual ... so basically a LOT of things were reset.
The biggest problem I'm having now is though that all my files (pictures, videos, music) that are stored on an external micro SD card are corrupt. It's not possible anymore to open anything. I already removed the micro SD card and put it into an adapter to have a look at the files via the laptop. But nothing, even though the sizes of the files seem OK, I can't open them.
Does anyone have a clue as to what exactly happened here? Are those files lost (at least of some I have a backup) or is there anything I can do to "repair" them? Help is really appreciated, thanks!
PS: Things like the card unmounting and re-mounting never occurred. So I can't tell if the card was dying or if actually the phone ruined my files.
Did you happen to be using a SanDisk SD Card? I've had my 10 brick 2 of those until I switched to Samsung SD Cards about a year ago and haven't had issues since.
I never could manage to recover files from the damaged SD cards.
I have a Samsung SD card and had something similar.
I guess I was on Viper Rom and basically my phone restarted around 15-20% of battery. After a long wait for booting back again, all my settings were gone.
Files and others in the SD card was okay but basically until I formatted the card, I wasn't able to boot into the Download Mode to install a new rom...
I fixed the restart issue by installing the official HTC Rom.
Thanks for your replies.
It is indeed a SanDisk 16GB card. It seems though that the card is still working (no problems accessing it via phone or laptop), just the files appear to be broken. In the meantime I also tried apps like PC Inspector File Recovery, but to no success
I'm still on stock HTC Sense by the way, no root, nothing.
Anyone know though why that happened (resetting everything, etc.)?
Hit me with a PM I'll give you a SanDisk restore tool which works quite ok. there is a huge chance some files can be recovered, some will be damaged though. Don't push any new files on the card after you tried to restore the files
HTC 10-Corrupted microSD card
I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering if there is a solution. I have an HTC 10 which has an micro SD card in it, that is "married" to the phone. When connected to a computer, the computer recognizes the phone, and the microSD card, and begins to load the folders/files. Eventually this process stalls, and the phone/drive is no longer readable by the computer. To get the computer to recognize the phone/card again, I need to restart the phone, but the same thing happens again.
I have like 20gigs of data on the card, and cannot just put the card in a reader, because it's encrypted to the phone. Any possible solutions? It's frustrating to see the files/pictures for a minute or two, and then have them disappear. I have tried copying/pasting the files while they're visible, but this often triggers the computer to no longer recognize the phone/memory card. I've tried to un-encrypt the microSD card, but the phone can't recognize/access the microSD card long enough to complete that process.
Please help if you can.
