I must be a complete noob. But i've been trying to figure out how to use this program, but i don't know how to turn it on? Not listed under widget or apps or... how in the world do i try this out??!
You won't want to use it unless you are rooted and remove HTC Sense.

Not exactly...the new update blocks you from using other launchers.
If you don't have the update it'll work without root and you don't need to remove sense.
On the other hand, if you have the update you will need to root your phone first.

That is because it is not technically an app, at least not the type that you are accustomed to using. Do this to get it to work.
1. Go to Settings ---> Applications ---> Manage Applications
2. After the list loads scroll down to HTC Sense, tap "Clear Defaults" and "Force Stop"
Touch the home button and it should give you an option on which launcher you would like to load.
Hope this helps!

Already rooted and running fresh. And apparently this came with the most recent fresh update, but had no idea out to try it out! So thanks! This is exactly what i needed.
disabling sense and using the stock launcher was the only way to get my computer to see my phone. i tried launcher pro but my comp will not see my phone now, very very frustrating.

Really?
I've been in root land so I haven't used it and I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't BLOCK other launchers, I think it just doesn't include the 2.1 AOSP launcher "Launcher 2."
As far as the system cares, your home screen is just an app like a browser or music app, it is just a matter of disabling which one is set as default. This can be done in the applications menu via the method described above, or you may find the application "Home Switcher" useful if you like to try out different home screen launchers?
I certainly could be wrong, but I would be surprised if they blocked the ability to turn off sense as the default.
You do not need to be rooted to use either ADW.Launcher nor LauncherPro.
I highly doubt the launcher is causing your computer to not see the device.

Why? What does rooting, or removing Sense, have to do with using an alternative launcher? Take your time, be specific.

No, the new OTA removes the stock Launcher2. It doesn't block anything.

Wrong. You can either use the Force Close trick to get Sense to close, or you can just grab Home Switcher from the Market and use that to close Sense.

I doubt it either, but wit the stock launcher as default my comp saw my phone n that was the only way, wouldnt work wit sense. Wit the new update, they removed the launcher so i tried launcher pro as default n it didnt work. But the weird thing is that my computer at work sees my phone wit no problem, so it must be something within my comp that i cant seem to figure out. n my comp is fully updated n drivers are all up to date so its weird.
I just loaded launcher pro last night. Took me a while to figure it out too as it is NOT in the apps and there are NO instructions.
Is it just me...or is there some conspiracy in Android land to NEVER HAVE ANY INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!
grrrr
Anyway...somehow one time I tapped the home button on phone and it popped up with a window that asked which one I wanted to use. No idea how I got it, but there it was. It had stock android, launcher, and sense listed. (I am still pre-ota). I have played around with all three.
However...honestly...I found launcher to be a complete slow tortoise! Seriously. Everyone hatin on Sense and Launcher was the slowest thing I have ever seen. And I hadn't even added any apps to it. Not sure I like it at all.
Only cool bit is the home screen rotation...which is what I was looking for. I should go leave comments on this....
LauncherPro is a speed demon and is great to use (been doing so since I found out about it).
I have no idea why it would be slow for you at all.
Cuz he has sense still running I would think

Be sure to clean slate your HTC Sense Launcher. I am running EVOlution V9 now, so can't remember exactly where the option is; but it's there somewhere. I installed Launcher Pro on my Stock ROM yesterday before rooting and loved it. Everything worked great once I deleted everything off of my HTC Sense Launcher and set Launcher Pro to default. Running it on Froyo now as well.

You think? I heard so many great things about it, but it is nasty slow on my machine. So if I choose it from that pop up window...then you think sense is still trying to run but with that launcher??
So...how is this done? You have to actually get rid of sense or can you turn it off without root?
(ps...i do plan to root, but not until i make a decision in my 30 day period...yes, i have commitment issues!)

Open Sense again. I think if you hit menu, something like "Scenes" or similar will appear. Select that and select "Clean Slate." That should clear your Sense homescreen.
Then try Launcher Pro again.
I know I've read somewhere that homescreen icons disappearing after reboot is inherent to Froyo and TW. However, this only happened to me after installing Bonsai 3.0.1 using the twcrushd launcher. I've been using Bonsai since 1.1.4. The TW launcher in Bonsai 3.0 did not have this behavior.
I didn't hear anyone else talk about this, so I assumed it was just me. I even Odin'd back to stock EB13, re-rooted, and installed Bonsai 3.0.1. Still no change. Other launchers do not seem to have this issue.
So I guess my question is, is this normal behavior using twcrushdlauncher?
Just to make it clear, it's not that I get the default icon placeholders waiting for the SD card. The icons are completely gone.
Same exact thing for me. Moving back to phone works to get them back but then tried to get them to stay after moving back to sd, no luck. I'm guessing the card may need to be reformatted. I hope I'm wrong.

Save yourself the time. Already tried it. Backed up the SD card, formatted on computer, formatted again in phone. No change. LOL!
Thanks for the heads up. I just changed all my apps back to phone memory. Guess till we figure it out, just need to deal with the memory hit.
Grr... I won't be able to fit all my apps on the phone memory. Does Darktremor's Apps2SD work on our phones? Wonder if that would fix anything...
I had apps in phone memory disappearing, so just went back to TW3.

No other launchers don't have this issue. I've had serious fc and apps getting screwed up w/ launcherpro in the past. I really liked the twcrushd, but I just tried go launcher ex and I think I've found my new launcher. After 2 days it seems fast, stable, and I like it's features and style.
hmm
I have noticed this for a while with any froyo rom. The icons do show a generic image on the launcher after boot....but, they do eventually display the proper image and work correctly. Sometimes I have to restart my launcher, but within 2 minutes they fix themselves. It seems to me thats the last task thats completed after booting up. I have never had them disappear for longer than 2 minutes
Launcher pro fixed it for me. Actually, regular twlauncher worked too. Guess it was just twcrushdlauncher. Thanks for the help!

Yeah that was usually the case for me too, but I left it on for hours before realizing they weren't there. Also, when they appeared late, there would usually be a generic android logo placeholder. This was not the case here. I really tried everything as described in the OP.
holes45 --> All the other launchers worked fine for me too. I'm glad you found a replacement you like!
Yup, me too. Put TW3 back on and restored data from Titanium and all my homescreens were back to before upgrade.

You really should try both out for a few days and find out yourself. There are not too many options out at the moment so trying things out to get a feel for them is best. Also, go and read what has been done to the kernal and read their threads. I understand that you want to get the best of the best right now, but understanding what you're doing to your phone and the differences between the kernals / roms is one of the things XDA is about.

Hi Tri4life, thanks for the reply. I've been reading/researching for months before posting. I have only tried Juggs with the Bullet kernel though because to be quite honest, in my line of work and with all the things I have going on, flashing constantly and having my phone off/on is just not something I can do... I'd love to have an extra GS2 to experiment with, but unfortunately I can't flash and test drive a lot, I need my phone up and running as much as possible being a SQL/Oracle DBA on call basically 24/7 for a major group of hospitals.
If I can figure out a way to quickly restore my apps and settings after a ROM or kernel flash, then maybe I can do this more often, but from what I'm reading folks are saying that's hit or miss, so I've been mostly doing all my app installs and customization from scratch after a flash to a new ROM.. which takes me hours to do..
So basically I'm looking to go with some of the common successful configurations users have had luck with on here.
Faux for me! So smooth and getting 1d battery on it. Bullet doesnt come close i was getting 10 hours on that thing!

Maybe something that might help. I use Titanium backup Pro and Adw Launcher EX. I spent a lot of time gettings things right on ADW and now that I have it I backup its settings. ( this is also placement of items on homescreen ). I then use Titanium to back that up as well as all my other user apps + data. Everything is stored on my sd card. If I plan on formatting I just move my titanium backup folder to a desktop. Then format, mount, and re add to the sd. I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium, have it restore my apps and their data. Then I add my account. I will clean this post up later, but it really makes things nice and allows me to install new roms in under 10 mins and keep all my previous settings.

Yes, that is extremely helpful (especially the part about having the TBU.apk ready to install TBU without adding your account and going through the market) I actually paid for Titanium Backup Pro, so I have the full version and should be able to do this.... I've just heard folks saying that this doesn't always work...
As for launchers, I used to use LauncherPro, now I'm trying Go Launcher EX... mostly because I saw folks saying good things about it, it looks like it has more options (especially for theme-ing) and it has also been updated more recently than LauncherPro. I've never tried ADW Launcher Ex... Why do you prefer it over LauncherPro and Go Launcher?

Regarding the launcher, its all about simplicity for me. Adw is just as quick and go launcher ( in my opinion ). Also everything I needed adw takes care of. For the most part I would say they are equal competitors, but I just don't need all the extra options or features that Go Launcher provides. But yes I used Go Launcher Ex and even recommend it to my friends. Keep in mind you can do the same backup with it and restore just like ADW. Oh, but one difference I believe is that Go Launcher stores the backups in a separate file and folder as its app. So using titanium wont back that up. It will just stay on your sd card or internal. Doing the normal wipes to install a new ROM wont remove it, but of course a format will. Just a heads up, and also I haven't used Go Launcher in over a month so they probably pushed out a lot of updates and changed that feature.
About Titanium backup. You will have to have both the TBU.apk and the TBUpro.apk to install. The pro key is installed after, else you will have to wipe TB's cache from application settings. Also, if the ROM does not come with a file manager app on it by default then you will have to push with adb the .apks over. Also I think you can just copy/paste them into the app folder as well.
edit- again, I can give you my exact steps when I get home tonight. Just typing quite fast here at work.

Im using 0.0.7, its the one that comes with the rom Dewizzed. I think from 0.0.6 to 7 it just changes from a tmobile boot image to a custom one. I tried 0.0.6u with Beastmod, and it boot looped, im not sure if it had issues with beastmod or what, and ended up using DeWizzed as my rom after that instead which i think is 0.0.7r.
Im using the original modem, as im a Telus user(no wifi calling here).
I believe both kernels have most of the same features, Bullet may have more governors IIRC.
I just did a battery calibration starting yesterday actually and im at 20% after 1 day 14 hours. Not heavy usage, but i find while i use was using it there wasnt much drain.
And as i said, its SO smooth.
"I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium" ... Great idea.
I'm saving Titanium Backup (com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1) and ROM Manager (com.koushikdutta.rommanager-1) in a folder so that I can reinstall them quick without having to log in and grab them from the Google Market. Good thinkin'

My phone used to be fine a week ago.I've replaced twlauncher with Go launcher ex last week.I've been swapping launchers for a long time. But now my phone is misbehaving.App drawer lags sometime. And it freezes every now and then. After that I have two wait sometime for the phone to come to life.Deleting shortcuts takes time. And when i reboot my phone the phone takes ages to load after swiping the lock screen. When i try to delete some items from sdcard,it freezes and media scanner get's stuck at 100percentage.Notification bar also gets stuck and sometimes goes back itself. The powerbutton sometimes fails too.Any one has any idea?
I'm rooted
stock rom,a2sd,terma's kernel,
running v6 supercharger,[email protected] battery tweak, and kickass kerneliser
a2sd can be the problem try to put all your apps on internal and then see if it make less lag or not
flash new firmware and then use ya sgy without tweaks like v6........
Hates to do that.Done that several times before.May be i should delete the scripts.

So youre currently using go launcher?
Kindly check task manager and see ram usage. If you have a full set of Go apps, that might be the problem... I tried before having all go apps with different themes. My phone lagged like hell and all those apps were ram whores. Try a different launcher... Oh, and for best performance, stick to stock apps, that is the best and fastest... (But if you really want a good launcher, try 360 launcher... Its almost exactly like GoLauncher, but more lightweight.)
I've had this problem before, many a time.
I find that if I clear my text and call logs, things will often get back to normal!

Just got my galaxy s3 today. Been messing with it sense. Unfortunately i've had issues with some launchers and I don't know why. Apex/Nova/Holo have all been giving issues in the terms of putting down Widgets at the home screen. All three will tell me that there isnt enough room on the page for the widget when that same page is completely blank.
Another issue i had was super lagginess. I haven't rooted yet because im still kinda noobish and i dont want to do anything derpy to the phone. And i wanted to give touchwiz at least a little bit of time. Aside from that though ive been installing and un-installing launchers like mad and im still getting a bit of lag from switching between pages for an example. Ive got scroll effects turned off and speed nearly all the way up (or low in Apex i think) and its still feeling sluggish.
Was wondering what recomendations you guys could give. Like i said i want to stay stock for a bit...at least until cm comes out
When you reboot the phone, do you get the prompt that asks you what program you want to use (for the launcher)? Select your desired launcher, and press Always.
Yea I get that option and ive placed it for my holo launcher but for whatever reason apex and nova were giving me issues like lag and starting to fc things. Was just curious if any one knewbl what was up. Any good launches you would recommend?

Going to ask something slightly noobish but how do I make one of the launchers a system app? Im still stock at the moment so im trying to figure out whats going on.
I did a full wipe just now and its sill giving me issues that there isnt enough room on the page for the upload of the widget. All im trying to do is upload a stock digital clock widget and its giving me issues in both apex and holo. Is it because they might be touchwiz widgets and the launchers aren't recognizing them? I dont know if that could be the issue but like I said im still stock. Now that i look at it though I may have to root my phone sooner than I wanted. Been on battery for three hours and im already discharged at 51% grr..:crying:

Q: I can't add widgets to my homescreen from the Widgets tab of the drawer. Help!
A: In order to use the in-drawer widgets feature, you have to either enable the Root Helper from advanced settings or install Apex Launcher as a system app (instructions below), both of which require root on your device. This is due to limitations of the Android framework, so there is no way we could change this requirement. If you have just installed it as a system app and still cannot add widgets from the drawer, please reboot your device and try again. If you do not have root access, you may still add widgets from the system widget picker. Just long press on the homescreen and choose "Widgets" from the popup list.
