A month or two ago I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my R800X on 2.3.2. Ever since 2.3.3 has came out, I've wanted to update, but I cannot due to my bootloader being unlocked. Thanks to some very helpful instructions by a fellow XDA member, I did the instructions to relock my bootloader, but I am still rooted. Is that normal? How can I check to see if my bootloader is locked? I really want 2.3.3
You can check it by trying to use fasboot. If your locked, fastboot commands won't work (they'll come back with "you need root first" or something like that). Also, I think you need to do something to get rid of root and put the rom just like it was stock or the install might fail. Might try a factory reset. Good luck!

No if you root your phone that's all that will happen

I think it would be best if you flash your stock firmware to your phone first....as i have seen i lost both root & bootloader unlock after i did so...

Ok thanks how do I reflash the att stock image if I wanted that

once you have the bootloader unlocked and clockwork recovery installed you can make a complete backup of your phone in the recovery mode.
Thats what i did before i flashed a new rom. The stock att rom is not available here so you need to make a backup as far as i know
And ok I dnot want to unlock so I was going to go the route of flashing the other region firmware. But if I dint have the stock att firmware to go back to I dint want to do that. Guess I will have to wait to see if someone can figure out root without unlock. Thanks for the help though I understand now.

I had att but flashed to r800a 2.3.2 using wontanserver.com (its free just got to register) then used gingerbreak and updated OTA to 2.3.3 with bootloader locked. R800a is like att but no att bloatware.

Right but if you ever wanted to go back to r800at stock firmware is there a way?

I was wondering this myself, since I too have an AT&T play, running the 800a firmware on GB. I've been having some issues with it though. Is it possible to go back to AT&T stock?
No unless you unlock bootloader and find someone who made a back up of the att rom.
What problems are you having?

Hey guys had a few problems when modding my cousins Xperia play, I unlocked the bootloader and got it up and running no problems. But I also read if you have an unlocked bootloader you can't update with Over the air updates, is that true, if so, do I have to re-lock the bootloader in order to get them to work?
Yes,u have to re-lock it for OTAs,but using SEUS or PC companion is fine, but u might have to reset the phone.
Cheers
If you update using any method that isn't a manual flash, be prepared to brick the phone. Re-locking the bootloader is possible, but if I were you I would just flash newer firmware.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking about flashing something newer manually, hopefully it will stop the "there are updates available "messages for my cousin. Wish I didn't bother rooting the phone for him now

Using root explorer or any program that can delete system apps I just delete the mobile care apk and run free

Awesome, I was hoping it was something that simple
Okay, I tried to unlock the bootloader but after that my play didn't boot anymore so I flashed a new firmware. Root acces was no problem but I am not able to install cwm on my phone anymore. I run the script on my pc, there are no errors but I just can't get into the recovery menu. Could this have something to do with my unlocked bootloader? I tried to find out, how to install cwm on unlocked bootloaders, but I did not find something satisfying

Just download cmw installer from the market and install it that way. No computer necessary.

In order to flash custom kernels onto your device you need to unlock your bootloader first.

This guy is right. When it says you have to be rooted... Its not in the sense as root for superuser... Its more the bootloader. Meaning your bootloader has to be unlocked.

Umm unlocked boot loader is like you can put any sim card in right!?
No I think that's sim unlocked. Not for r800x. But not sure if it unlocks sim when you unlock with Sony method with other xplys.

Hi everyone. I completely apologize for this question as I am absolutely new to Android and to unlocking a phone. I just bought a R800x Verizon Xperia Play for the sole purpose of being able to play emulators. I will not be activating it to use as a phone. I have read as much as I can and am still a little confused in regards to being able to unlock the bootloader and install roms.
If the bootloader message says No, am I not able to unlock it or install roms at all?
If it says yes, can I install any rom, or am I limited to what I saw as Cola and a few others?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone help me out. Or can I keep it locked but install cola?
You can.unlock the bootloader I have mine unlocked using sonys unlock method but.if you wish to.stay with a locked bootloader yoj can.install cola but you'll have to.root 2.3.3 install clock work mod.recovery I my.self.am.vefy glad I unlocked my.bootloadef and since yoj habe.no.intentions of using the phone side yoj could install numeruous amounts of gsm roms

If I unlock it using that method. I've read the forums. I just need to get flash tool then and pick a rom I want to use. Most roms come with the clockwork recovery from what I'm seeing.
