I have recently started getting notices in my top bar advertising different products. The one which came up this morning (and is by far the most common) is for Mobo Task Killer Pro and the icon up top was "App Released". There are other notices from time to time, and I cannot for the life of me figure out which program is doing this. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!
Some apps use notification bar advertisements. I'm not sure how to tell exactly which app it is, but if you've installed or updated anything recently, I would look at those apps first.

You could try downloading AdFree from the market. That might put a stop to the ads.
If you're rooted you could freeze them one by one, and see when it goes away? I haven't had an app with notification ads yet, but accuweather had a problem and displayed an error in the notification tray that wouldn't go away. I tried suppressing the permission with cyanogenmod, but it doesn't seem that it is a separate permission. You could try blocking the Internet, but it may not work.

Well
Thanks all ... I have done quite a bit, including seeing what processes are running, which is why I turned to the boards; but please let me try this instead:
If anyone KNOWS who is pushing those status bar ads (on bootup by the way), please let me know.
Thanks
Maybe this will help.

Hi everyone,
Got a bit confused now. I've installed some apps from the market and when I go to "My apps" I see a list of installed apps.
The problem is, their status is set as their price tag, like 'free', but not as 'installed' as it should be.
Those apps are still on my phone and they do run, but in this case I don't know if there's an update are not.
Is there a way to fix this, please?
I hope someone has a clue.

Have you tried to restart your phone?
I have this star with an orange circle dot inside it that pops up at around 5:30am (eastern time) almost everyday since a few days ago. When I pull down the top bar to see the notification, it is an advertizement that will open up an internet browser.
I would love to know how this is happening and what app it might be that is causing this. I have about 90 apps installed and dont want to go ahead and delete everything to hunt it down.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
BTW=running Calkulin's Evo2 Froyo rom.
Have you tried going into Settings > Applications > Running Services? You should be able to spot anything running that's out of the ordinary that way.
I did check, didnt see anything, but i will check again today as I bet it will pop-up today a few hours at 530am. Has anyone seen this as well??
here is an idea....
use titanium backup to FREEZE all USER APPS, except for ones that you are SURE are not it...then if you see that at 0530am it did not happen, unfreeze a number of them, maybe 10 or so. at the next 0530am continue this process...until you find the group of 10 that causes the problem to resume.
It's some rogue app that is pushing ads (AirPush). Go to the market and check the reviews on some of the latest apps you've downloaded. that'll help you track it down along with anthonyandrews's idea.

Initial nailed it. I recall this being discussed on the forum a short while back. Thats just ugly for an app to do that though.
out of curiosity, what was the app?
It's called heyzap. New way of ads.

Does anyone get random app notifications that seem like spam. Apps like "badoo" and other crap.
Also, I get random pictures in my gallery that are apparently downloaded into my phone without me knowing. I delete them, but every few days I notice 1 or a few have shown up again.
I'm trying to add screenshots, but I keep getting errors. Ill edit on computer.
edit: Here are the screenshots.

I get those notifications every once in a while. I believe they come from certain apps like yahoo messenger used to do that. Same thing with the pictures there like cached images for apps or ads. Try using an add blocking host file if your not already it helps a lot.

I've always used yahoo messenger and have never got those. I would double check any obscure apps you have added to your phone. Some probably have bad intentions.
I can't really see any of my apps being questionable. Of course I wouldn't really know for sure I guess. I was just hoping somebody would be able to pinpoint the problem, but it probably is something that happens quite often and is hard to pinpoint.
It is definitely caused by an app you installed. Your best bet would be to get your apps sorted by date of install and start deleting your most recent apps until this goes away.
When this happened to me, it was from some live wallpaper I had installed.
Ya I guess that makes perfect sense. I just wondered how many other people have seen it. I plan to clear everything and do a hard reset anyway. Starting from scratch cause I'm tired of ridiculous lag.
Allstar...
look for an app that removes " airpush " notifcations
AirPush Detector - Dan Bjorge
Addons Detector - Denper
Lookout Ad Network Detector - lookout labs
I get them, I think they are Go Locker ics theme.
I had that go locker ics theme...and I never had an ad like that...but meh...I got rid of all the go software save for go launcher...though I think I might be going back to the launcher pro that I had on my garminefone
This app will tell you the culprit.

Big thanks!! It showed me the one app that was causing the spam. Mp3 Music Download was the culprit. I haven't used it in awhile so I deleted it. Thanks for the tip.
I've only had this happen twice and once I was half asleep so I didn't pay close attention but a few minutes ago a + sign shows up in my notification bar and when I pulled down it looked like an ad, who's responsible for this and how do I stop it/block it?
Was for some bamboo something or another.
download the app Air Push Detector, it will tell you which app is putting the plus sign up there and then uninstall it and your issue will be resolved Mine was Music Paradise...

Thank you so much, will try that right away
Found it, stupid LWP from Demonic (should've been a giveaway lol)
It's from an app that you must have recently installed or has been updated - it's spamming you. If you click on it it will usuall take you to some bs site, tell you your phone is slow etc.. If you have titanium try freezing some recent apps and see if it comes up. And check the running applications. Update your AdAway signatures (if you don't have that app might want to check it out - pretty good host file lists). Just my thoughts.
The app i have been using is addons detector. Works pretty nice, I have forced both my wife and my parents to install on their androids and leave it installed

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Your suggestions are always appreciated.
[Q] Something is installing " the hobbit" & "kingdom of camelot" apps?
I'm seeing two apps that have been installed THE HOBBIT and KINGDOM of CAMELOT. I did not install them. Any idea what's installing them without my permission? And I'm not saying these are REAL apps. that's just what they are titled. Once I clicked on one and it tried to open a browser window.
Also, I noticed an app called COOL APPS that goes to a browser window: www.iconadverse.com/redirect
I'd like to find what is installing this ****.
Thanks
Maxi
Have you downloaded a free app from the Play Store lately?
A lot of apps do this to make money. Usually it installs some kind of search app.
Uninstall some recently installed apps and see if they go away.
Are you rooted? If not, its not possible for an app to install other apps in the background without user confirmation, or so I've picked up on from my reading.

Sort your apps by installation date, and post the last dozen here.
I don't know if it's worth installing an anti-malware app at this point, but you can try Addons Detector. That might be able to find the offending app.
And odds are that what you see as apps for the Hobbit and whatever are only shortcuts placed on your homescreen by a bad developer. Either way, I'd be concerned and upset. I hope you will find the cause of this and go back to the Play Store to comment/rate as needed (unless you sideloaded it..)
Both are being advertised on Facebook this week sounds like you clicked on it from there.
