Hello everyone,
I know there's a lot of threads about broken screens out there but I could not find a precise answer to my question.
This is what happened. My HTC Desire (with AMOLED) fell on the ground. When I picked it up I noticed a crack. It seemed like it was not on the touchscreen but underneath it. Also, in the first hours the display worked well like always despite the crack. Then, the next morning, I woke up to a surprise. The screen was now loosing it's colors and everything was in a kind of violet range. The next day, the screen was completely black (but I could feel that the touchscreen was still working because of the small vibration during unlocking).
Of course, the "official" screen replacement is too expensive for me and I think I can do it myself. The problem is that I can not find a site that's selling AMOLED screens for HTC Desire, only LCD. So there's my question : is it possible to replace an AMOLED screen with a LCD screen (on the HTC Desire)? Or maybe someone knows a site that's selling AMOLED screens for HTC Desire?
Thank you in advance.
Switching screen for screen won't work. At least you would need to replace the digitizer too, and I'm not sure will it work with your motherboard. Total cost of screen + digitizer would be around $110.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I know people mentioned different digitizer for different screens. I'm not sure that's true but a different motherboard would be required.

Hello!
I broke my HTC Desire, the screen stays black and I perceive two cracks on the LCD.
I tested with androidscreencast and the phone works properly, the touch too.
After some research on e-bay, I found a seller offering me two screens, I am unable to put links then the seller is called: antoine_tech
The problem is that it does not indicate whether they are or AMOLED displays DCL when my phone is original DCL.
My question is, is it possible to put an AMOLED screen instead of a DCL?
Thank you for your reply.
Probably not. Talk to HTC

I have dropped my Wildfire on the floor and after i picked it up i had a spot on the screen(you can see it in the pics attached).I want to order the parts necesary from ebay because i saw they have good prices.
Please help me because i need to know..what part do i have to change to get that spot away from the screen?(the digitizer, the display?)
Thanks!
PS: the touchsreen works perfectly
really no one knows?
asking again..please help
I had exactly the same problem. That mark you see on the screen is due to dead pixels. I dropped mine too and I had a spot just like yours. Here is how I solved the problem.
1. Go to ebay and buy an LCD screen for wildfire. I got mine for less than $50. You just need the LCD not the touchscreen digitizer. I think you can get it cheaper.
2 Replace the LCD. I could not find a dissassembly guide for wildfire, but you can follow the Desire guide. They are pretty much the same. I am talking about the steps. Obviously, they different phones.
Since your touchscreen works, it is easier to replace the LCD.
Now my wildfire works fine with a working LCD.
Good luck

If the touchscreen is working without any problems then it is just the LCD Screen you need, It is a separate part from the touchscreen.
Where i used to work, the sales team used to rip people off by telling them that the touchscreen and LCD screen came together, but most of the time they don't and can be fitted separately, sometimes however they are together and need to be bought together. I have been inside one of my own wildfires to fit a new touchscreen it didn't go very well but it works......... minus the LED lights and i can tell you the LCD screen can be purchased and fitted separately.
Dude of course it is up to you wheyher you wait or not,
But i am telling you, i had the exactly same issue... My phone fell to the floor and i had the spot on the pictures you posted. It is because of the dead/stuck pixels on your lcd. My touchscreen worked fine too. Just replace the lcd and you are in bussiness.
And I agree with the poster above.

dead pixels arent good but what about my dead "lines" ? it looks like the HTC is censuring everything i want to read
Hey, xda dev members.
As this is my first post,I've gotta say I used the "search" function here on forum.
I just didn't find what I actually needed.
The thing is : I got my dad's HTC Desire which had been dropped on the ground.
The screen is cracked but the Digitizer looks undamaged imo.
It turns on,I can hear the startup sound, buttons light up etc.
How do I check if other parts are working properly?
I don't really trust repair shops/HTC service is too pricy and I could replace the screen/digitizer by myself with no problem.
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I can post pics if needed.
seems a bit strange that the screen is cracked but the digitizer isn't damaged, can you feel the crack with your nail?
I changed a digitizer not so long ago, it wasn't so difficult.

I don't know how much a new screen will cost though.
Yeah,I'm disassembling it at the moment.
I just hate getting cheated/ripped by mobile repair centres,so I'd rather do what I can by myself.
It's strange.. Are you sure that the digitizer is not cracked?
Here in Czech Rep. the LCD for the Desire/NexusOne costs something about $70 (1300Kč)..

Here it's approx. 30 $ for digitizer and $50 for the screen.
I guess I'll order both just in case.
The thing is I don't know how to check if everything else is ok.
It was kicked hard but there's sound, button highlight, vibration etc. when I turn it on.
Anyone got idea?
I had the same problem... I crashed really hardly my phone. The digitizer and the LCD were totally broken, but everything worked (sounds, vibration, buttons etc.). So I think that your phone should work normally (besides the screen and maybe the digitizer)... my oppinion

Whoa.I'd completely disassembled it and the digitizer looks undamaged.
I haven't got any idea how it's possible since the screen is cracked all over...
[Edit] Any idea how to tell whether it's AMOLED or LCD?
I can't turn it on,so I can't use the methods involving a turned on phone.
Maybe some serial number methods or something?

Just distinguished SLCD from AMOLED by serial numbers.
60H00287 - Samsung AMOLED LCD
60H00443 -Super Sony LCD
Mine was the Samsung.
Ordering a new one, thanks for helping me out.
Can be locked.
For how much?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Unfortunately,it's AMOLED,so it costs ~60$(190 PLN).
Sorry for doubleposting but I'm not sure if editing a post will bring the topic up.
I found out that the digitizer connector is probably broken. (pic included)
Any idea if I can get it fixed anywhere?

hi,
does anyone know if all the digitizers would fit any model???
i have the s-lcd one
Hi, I'm wanting to replace my HOXs screen.
There are yellow spots on the screen, does this mean I need to replace the lcd panel as well or if I just replace the glass/digitizer will this fix the yellow spots?
Also, I managed to fix a galaxy ace screen (glass/digitizer) by separating the digitizer from the lcd panel and the lcd panel is fine. I know it has been said it's not really possible to separate the two with the HOX but if I have managed to do it for the ace, do you think it's possible for the HOX??
Any thoughts would be appreciated
You don't really need to replace the screen if you have orange spots ,just put the screen on full brightness over night and your problems will be solved , if you want to replace the screen ,replace the whole thing as you said I have seen only one video out of 60 that the guy was successful in ceperating digitiser from LCD ,good luck
They will disapear after some time. I had the spots too.
Thanks for the replies.
Sorry I forgot to mention that the screen is cracked too. But my main concern was separating the lcd from the digitizer. I did do it for the ace and it was pretty easy buy if you think I would be better off to replace the panel and digitizer, then I'll do that.

The things is, the ace and the hox are very different devices. Just because you've managed to seperate digitizer and screen on the ace doesn't mean you could do that on the hox too. Just compare the space between LCD and digitizer of both devices and you'll see what I mean.

You wont manage to seperate the screen from the digitizer trust me, i tryed it and the glue is too strong + the lcd is too fragile.
Hi guys, I just replaced the LCD in my old desire z. In the previous screen, I dropped the phone and from then on the screen wouldn't turn on. So now I've replaced the lcd but it is just the same. The screen doesn't power up. The digitizer seems to be working with the capacitive buttons lighting up. I am assuming that something else seems to have been damaged in the fall. Probably not worth the money and time to figure it out and fix it?

That would be hard to rule out unless someone can test that LCD you are changing with does not have any problem. Another question is that which instructions did you use to change your LCD ? Once I mistakenly stood over my Desire Z which was only few months old then, LCD cracked at that time.
I bought LCD from the following seller on eBay (i checked today and he do not have HTC Desire Z LCD any more)
(Sorry i am not allowed to add URL, if you PM me i can send you details)
In terms of instructions, the only video available in those days was youtube. com/watch?v=Us-28oXfIbg&list=PL604790BEFD39AE09
Now this guy has few other videos on HTC Desire Z.
From the posts of this guy, it appears he now opened up shop for parts and repairs. See if he could help. Nothing wrong with emailing him.

I have pages of htc desire z lcd on ebay.ca...
The problem is probably the flex cable.
Most of the time, lcd screen show signs of weakness : fliker, dead pixels, color lines, shot off after few seconds, etc
