I don't think it was about the script cause I "unsuperduperturbo charged it" the problem started when I chose network again. I took the same carrier that I was on atm (don't remember the reason why I did that).
Also when trying to restore a backup I get "error while restoring sdcard/android/.secure" or something like that.

When I try to restore back up I get this "error while restoring sdcard/android/.secure" or something like that. I'm on cwm 5.0.2.0 and you can see the reason why I need to restore from the quotes.
Happened to me a few times, even on some backups I know previously worked. I just put it down to unpredictable software and start again. If there's things you need from the backup try advanced restore in clockwork recovery or app extractor from the market, a free app which lets you pull apps and data from nandroid .imgs.

Ok so figured the backup problem but the mobile network still isn't working
Do a fresh install (Remember to format /system in mounts and storage, just doing wipe data / factory reset is not sufficient). Then, reflash the radio and try again.

That should disable all the scripts? Cause I tried that and then restored nandroid but I'm not sure If I was running the script when I made the nandroid. And how can I reflash the radio because when you start cm7 for the first time It has data on so it just reboots before you can turn it off and I can't flash cm7 and radio with same cwm so should I do a fresh install of cm7 and then fastboot flash cwm 2.5 and flash the radio?
Keep this zip file on your sdcard, its the same as ROM Manager (ie Temp 2.5.0.7). Flash in your existing Clockworkmod 3/4/5 after fresh installing CM7 to get temporary 2.5.0.7 and then flash the radio. You need not boot into the ROM to do this.

I don't know whether it will solve all your issues or not, but I think its worth to try it. (Again, remember to format everything under the Mounts and Storage Menu, especially /system)
Actually the 3g is now working on senseonfire I guess the reboot was just a coincidence. I'm gona go back to cm7 now and I'll fast the new radio just to be sure.
Edit: Seems to be working fine
Error restoring .secure
HI
As opposed to other items, "android_secure" is stored on the SD card instead of internal flash. So, your "error while restoring sdcard/android/.secure" is likely to happen if your sd card is full. (it happened to me for that reason !!)
I would suggest to mount the sdcard from usb - you can do it from the recovery menu - then try to free enough space for this restoration. Or maybe also try repairing the sdcard filesystem.

Hey there,
I have been running a froyo villainrom (1.6 i think) on my DHD and it was all running fine. I decided to update to the new CM7 so did a backup and wiped everything then flashed the new rom. It stayed on the loading screen for more than 20 mins. Eventually it turned off, each time i turned it on it did the same thing until finally it booted but I was greeted with force closes of the quick start, the keyboard, plus a whole lot of other stuff i dont remember. I decided to reflash CM7 and I ended up with the same problem, except this time it told me my SD card was faulty, I tried rebooting, removing and replacing teh SD card and kept getting the same error. Even my computer wont mount it
I got a spare card from the draw and put CM7 on that and the exact same problem occured, although this time when put into a PC i got the option of formatting it so I did. I then downloaded a CLeanDHD rom and flashed that after wiping everything once again. I still get force closes and cant get past inputting my google account details without the phone reseting again.
I cant restore to my backup as the phone does not recognise the card I made the backup on, nor can I access that card using my computer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Im using clockwork mod 3.0.0.6
Thanks in advance

who is your provider? im not 100% on this on the desire hd, but on the standard desire, you would find your providers RUU rom then flash that to return you to stock then youd have too reroot. but like i said, imma desire user who just got a dhd, so ask some1 with alil more knowldge
Did you do a full wipe, before flashing CM7? If not run one now (i.e wipe /system / cache /data and /dalvik-cache from CWR) before re-flashing CM7. With multiple FC's that is normally the issue, going back to a non cm ROM, not entirely sure about CleanDroid, is problematic without carrying out a full wipe also and may even require using an older version of CWR, see CleanDroid thread for more info on that.
Thanks for the replies guys, yes I did a full wipe of cache/dalvik and factory before flashing.
If i were to try and install a stock rom and was greeted with force closes again, what would that mean about having to re-root the device? I dont want to really loose root access if im going to have to keep trying to fix it
Ok so ive decided to restore it to stock rom. Will this be possible if my phone cant connect to the PC to sync with HTC sync?

it's 90% about wiping problem. maybe you missed "format data"
make sure you have cwm 3.0.0.6 and do full wipe ( i personally recommended full wipe 1.3 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720 , don't do it manually if this is your first time flashing custom rom. )
before that, make sure you have the working .zip rom. check md5 before transfer to sdcard. then do this step .
cwm -> install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> full wipe 1.3.zip -> choose zip from sdcard -> "your-rom-to-flash".zip -> reboot .

Thanks, I have made sure I didnt miss the full wipe. Ive re-tried wiping and flashing between CM7 and CleadDHD at least 20 times with the same problems. I think ill format my SD card and then copy the files across again. Ill also try the Full wipe 1.3 and see if that helps.
Im wondering if my friend makes a backup of his DHD through Clockwork 3.0.0.6 and then copies the backup file from his SD card to mine, will I be able to restore that backup?
Then from there I can factory reset again to wipe his saved settings?
Thanks for the replies so far guys
Is it possible my clockwork is faulty? I treid updating it through rom manager prior to flashing CM7 and it failed but i assumed it just reverted back to what I already had before. Is there a way I can reinstall clockwork through the current version?

I will probably make a copy of it rather than use theirs, just in case it ruins their card like it did mine. Would I have to copy their EXT partition data too? If so I can easilly do that in ubuntu yes?

Maybe you have an ext partition for your apps and/or data on your sd card which you do not backup?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Not sure if this is relevant but I bricked my Desire when I did a Nandroid of a recent Starburst rom. I can't remember which version now unfortunately but it offered data2sd. It's my understanding that performing the Nandroid backup was a bad mistake as the rom had moved vital parts of the phone system to the SD card and the Nandroid backup ignored that as it doesn't see it as a vital part to backup.
A subsequent reboot after doing the Nandroid resulted in the phone booting so far, rebooting, booting less far, rebooting and ultimately, SD card not recognised. Many hours spent learning Fastboot stuff fixed that, then I had a USB brick. Yet more hours ensued and eventually I fixed that too.
I've backed up and even transferred my current rom (Insert Coin CM7) to another SD card tonight with no issues at all but this isn't using data2sd. The speed gains on d2sd were great but I'm wary of using such a thing again as I'm pretty certain that that is how mine died after a Nandroid backup.

I used data2sd but that didn't work at all, starburst was slow as hell, i have to say i moved a lot of things to sd, not ext not only in android.secure, that could be the problem, but if i don't do that i don't have enough space on my internal

No that isn't it i always backup nand+ext
I have s-off and am permanently rooted. I am able to flash and run such roms as CM7.1 and RMK Gingersense from the original .zip file without a problem. However I have been unable to restore a single backup made with ClockworkMod Recovery.
For example, once I flash Gingersense I am unable to restore a backup to CM7.1. If I flash CM7.1 I am unable to restore a backup to Gingersense. In fact, I can't even successfully restore a previous backup of the same rom. I have reloaded CMR several times.
Every time I try to restore a backup, when I reboot I freeze on the white HTC screen. I have tried wiping everything before restoring, but that doesn't help.
It's a pain not being able to play with new roms and variations without being able to painlessly restore from a backup.
Any ideas?

Here are a couple of thoughts.
1 - Is your SD Card full? I had been flashing ROMs and doing back ups a lot recently. As I flashed a ROM to give it a try, I noticed that my back up went very quick. I thought nothing of it, but when I restored that back up, it did not work and caused problems. Looking into things, their was not enough room on the SD Card for the back up to complete all partitions, so it did what it could and finished. You may have several back ups that are incomplete.
2 - You are not waiting long enough for the phone to boot. I have had my phone stuck on the HTC screen for a minute or more before it finally starts the boot animation. If the HTC animation keeps starting over, you have a boot loop, but if it is just on the screen, it may just be taking longer to boot.
I hope this helps.
I had some similar issues at one point. I would try deleting the entire clockwork folder from your SD card and let it recreate when you go back into cwr. That's what worked for me. I believe it was due to some older files that were left behind from prior versions of cwr.
Sent from my ADR6350
Sounds like the same problem I had. Which was a bad SD card format. You can try to format your SD card via Windows and start all over. One thing to note is when you hook your phone up to your computer and mount it that you must use the safely remove device icon in the system tray. This will cause many problems for you if you don't. Trust me, I learned the hard way!
Thanks for suggestions, but I don't think we've got it yet.
Plenty of room for backups (more than 7 GB) on SD card. Have looked at backup files and am pretty sure they are complete. Backups take the usual amount of time, but I notice the failed restores go more quickly than full new installs.
Always use safely disconnect to disconnect from computer (rarely mount to computer anyway - files are usually sent to phone through Dropbox).
Suppose I can reformat SD card, but what a hassle to copy/paste everything back on.
Will try deleting CMR folder, but don't think there could be vestiges from previous versions since this is the first/only version installed since root.
Any other ideas from the incredibly bright and helpful people on this forum?

This is your best solution. If it doesn't work then you might have a bad SD card. It is a hassle to format the card but if you want it to work then it's the best solution.
Just a follow-up for anyone who lands on this thread because they have a similar problem.
Following the advice of spizzo03, I completely deleted ClockworkMod Recovery -- the app, the paid license app and the folder on the SD card. I then reinstalled just the free app of CMR from the Market.
Testing by trying to restore one of my backups ... IT NOW WORKS. Goes through the entire restore process -- system, data, cache, etc. -- whereas before it used to stop while restoring system.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

I made a Nandroid Backup with 4Extrecovery. Then I flashed Sabsa Prime, but I forgot to make a backup of the bluetooth, wifi, and other data. Then, I was thinking maybe I could recover with an emulator, but I dont know if it is possible to do it.

Easiest thing to do would probably be to make a nandroid of Sabsa Prime, restore the original nandroid, back up the data, restore Sabsa Prime, and restore the data.
I've also heard that Titanium Backup Pro can extract data from a nandroid. Never tried it myself.
I'm not sure what you mean by doing it from an emulator. Like, through ADB? I don't know of a way to do that.
The thing is that now, Sabsa goes perfect, battery wifi and all perfect, and I dont know if changing to the previus and then putting it again will work as fine as now.
With an emulator, I was thinkiing of a program for PC that can emulates the phone. Then I could install one app and recover the info, but in the PC. Then I would copy that info to the mobile again.

A nandroid backs up everything. It's basically an image of the hard drive partition, like a snapshot. So as long as the backup finishes correctly Sabsa will be exactly the same as what you have now.
I don't know anything about how you would use an emulator or which "one app" you would install.

you could restore that feom your nand backup, but not the whole file, because each rom has different config. i restore my wifi saved hotspots by manually copyong body of that file from new to old in text editor. you can try it, jist make sure to make a backip of current file and turn off wifi while you do it. much faster then the other option. im guessing you should be able to pull something similar with bluetooth...

When you navigate to "reboot" in recovery (instead of reboot recovery) what happens? And try full wiping and re-restoring.
I reboot, then it switchs on until HTC screen appears, for 2 seconds approximately. Then, it switches off and then switchs on again but it enters directly to the 4EXT recovery.
What I made was:
Wipes
Format all except sd card
Restore

OK, so I'm used to phones with external SD cards where backing up was very easy. With the GN its a pain in the ass. After flashing a rom and factory resetting it, CWM can not find my back ups. I can see them with root explorer on the "sdcard" but CWM doesn't. I tried dragging them to /data/media/, but cwm doesn't see them.
I saved the back up to my pc before resetting as well. Where can I put it so CWM sees it?
I have the same problem with Titanium Back up. I backed up all apps and data, but after the wipe they were gone. I saved the back up on my PC but now I don't see a titanium backup folder to drag them too.
I realize this question has been asked before but all my research points me to dead ends.
Any help would be appreciated.
edit: was able to to drag an old backup to CWM, tried to restore and it failed. Phone is now stuck at Google logo :/. Factory resetting it again did not help.

This is why I use TWRP now.
I've had a bad CWM backup/restore operation fail. I think the dev of CWM is losing the ball and TWRP is starting to become the better recovery solution now.

I've never once had any errors or failed operations or issues of any kind since using CWM Recovery. Even with my old phone (which was not technically CWM, but based on it). Its hard for me to blame CWM and say that those issues are NOT user error.
If you go from a 4.1.X ROM to a 4.2.X ROM then you will have this problem because it changes the file structure that android uses. Same would occur on TWR. You just need to move the files to the correct location after the fact.

Problem is that I tried moving the backup from the old location to the new. When I tried to restore, it failed and never was able to boot past the google logo. I had to unroot and flash back to stock. A great feature that I wish CWM had would be to direct it to where we keep the backup and just restore from there. Since the change from 4.1 to 4.2 I have read many people having similar issues.
Do you have cwm making a md5 for your backup? If not hat is the only time I've had trouble restoring. I've switched from 4.2 to 4.1 and vice versa multiple times without problems.
Also are you using cwm touch or non touch?

Also, like others have said, make sure you are using the latest CWM. You can easily get it by downloading ROM manager and selecting "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It will also tell you what version you have and what version is the latest.
Thanks for the help. I'm also having problems with titanium back up. I copied the backup folder before the wipe, I dragged the files back to the titanium back up folder but TB doesn't recognize the back ups.

In Titanium Backup, select menu then preferences. Scroll down and select backup folder location. Tap the "detect" button then whole device. It should find it.
Also I'd grab a cheap otg adapter... And a 32gig min flash drive to backup to. I have mine run overnight (otg w/charging port) it's basically like having external just deciding when you need it

If you go from a 4.1.X ROM to a 4.2.X ROM then you will have this problem because it changes the file structure that android uses. Same would occur on TWR. You just need to move the files to the correct location after the fact.

an up to date version of CWM or TWRP will 'move' (actually rename with the new path) your file system for you so you don't have to do it manually - that's why peeps keep on telling you to update your recovery...
help!

I have the same exact problem. When I try to move the backup to the main sdcard directory (a 3 gig file) it fails halfway through. No matter if I use adb push or windows/mtp to copy/paste the file.
Any ideas? Please help, I just want to restore my old rom with all my data. I dont care about 4.2 if I dont have my data.
EDIT:
I FIXED IT! This is how I did it. I had backed up my SD card (including clockwork backups) to my computer using adb pull. So I used clockworkmod recovery to format the SD card and /data/media. Then I started up the phone. I used windows to copy the backups to the phone. Now when I went to clockwork and tried to use the restore backup, it worked correctly. I'm now back to my old phone
I have a solution

I was able to solve this problem. Check my post (above this) and the edit! Goodluck!
Reviving this thread
I am reviving this thread because I would like to know if there is any way to preserve CWM backups and Titanium Backup files when wiping data for a new ROM install.
Is it possible to create a symlink using terminal and link to a static directory which could be protected from wiping data? This is granted the shell permits symlinks.
Thoughts?
