I'm trying to unroot my friends EVO. We rooted it back in the day with UNREVOKED. It was the one-click method.
I've searched for guides but can't find any. PLease help.
Again, I am talking about the old Undevoked rooting method we used, not Revolutionary.
How do i unroot?
Flash the unrevoked s-on tool in recovery. Then run an ruu or flash a PC36IMG RUU that matches the version of your bootloader, most likely 3.70.
Go to unrevoked website and dl the s-on file to flash. Ur radio must be no higher than version 2.00.11.19 so u must downgrade that b4 u flash s-on patch. Then just ruu or flash stock pc36img

I am trying to unroot my brother's phone that has 4.54.651.1 on it. Could someone please point me to the right RUU please?
P.S. He was trying to do it himself and he ran the unrevoked file to turn S-ON and he has Radio 2.15.00.11.19 on. What can I do?

I tried that but it fails every time.I get the "ERROR[140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR / The ROM Update Unity cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
When I try to do it through the bootloader I do not get to the "update" option. It just fails.
I downloaded this RUU and it went through successfully

I have a problem. The USB port is fried. I cannot use it. How can I then flash a stock Rom? I can download something to the phone and flash it , but will I still have recovery after flashing s-on from unrevoked?
Also what Rom can I flash? It must be zip format.
Where did you get the download from Aloupha?
*Edit* Never mind found it. Trying to unroot now.
Another question. I flashed backed to my original backup and the phone looks stock. Do you guys think I could get my camera lense replaced through sprint without doing a full unroot? Phone looks as stock as they come...

Well if you are trying to unroot, you would flash a stock rom.

Well I took my phone into sprint with just a stock rom flash and my phone was repaired without question. Although the rep stated that they don't repair physical damage...smh. I declined to tell him that Sprint has repaired many of my phones of my 10 YEAR tenure.

Here is a list of all RUU's and PC36IMG's in all software version's for the Evo. All of these are unrooted and completely stock.
Don't forget to use the Unrevoked S on tool, before running the RUU (if you used unrevoked to root, you'll need to flash that, in order to turn S back to ON)
I thought simply flashing the ROM would unroot me since it is stock? I Used Unrevoked 3 not unrevoked forever.

That doesn't matter. Unrevoked 3 flashes the unrevoked forever zip in the process. Believe me, if you don't flash the Unrevoked S On tool, you will still be S off after running the RUU.
And no, you can't just flash a 'stock' rom using recovery to unroot. You could flash a stock rom, and it will appear to be stock and unrooted, but you will still have super user, busy box, and S off, which would mean you're still rooted. If you need to really unroot, you need to flash the unrevoked forever S on zip first. Then after that, you either run the RUU from your computer, or instead, you download the PC36IMG of an RUU, then place it on the root of your SD card. Then boot to the bootloader, accept the update, and let it finish. You'll then be unrooted, S on, and back to stock.
Ok thanks for the help
Wait one more thing:
whats the differencer in this:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15. 00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe (209.38 MB)

If I understand right the RUU is a computer recovery and the PC36IMG lets me restore off my phone directly correct?

Yes, that is basically it. If you wanted to do it directly from your phone, download the PC36IMG.zip, place it on your sd card, and then flash it using the bootloader. If you want to run it from the computer, download the RUU (which is a .exe file) and run it from your computer, with your Evo connected via USB. I think the PC36IMG is easier, and has less chance of anything going wrong. In my opinion.

You're welcome. Any time! And good luck, everything should go smoothly for ya.
I did this a while back so I may not remember correctly but I think there is an unrevoked S-ON tool. I found the instructions in the rooting section on XDA
So I was trying to unroot my phone to take it back to Sprint. I flashed PCimg to put S-on and was going RUU back to stock ROM. However, for some reason the RUU says it cant find my device. So I decided to just go back and switch back to S-off. But when I try to run Revolutionary it says that I am already S-off. But the bootloader says I have S-on. Halp!
download unrevoked forever son patch and put on sd card. Go into your recovery and flash it. Go back to hboot and see if its on. Lemme know if that works thanks.. if you need the file i can upload it for ya.

Ok well I attempted to do that....but I cant flash unrevoked forever because I have the latest radio version and they are not compatible. So the flash aborts midway through. And unfortunately I cannot downgrade my radio, at least not that I've seen. So now what?
What hboot version do you have?
If it is 6.17 because that's how you s-on'ed revolutionary, you need to run an RUU to get you back to 2.16 so you can reroot. If the computer won't find your device, try running it with the phone in fastboot.

I have an LCD Incredible with radio version 2.15.10.07.07 and I'm trying to return it back to stock so I can sell it to a friend. I have already flashed the stock unrooted ROM (PB31IMG.zip) and it gave me back the stock recovery, I read that I should flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip via CWM but my radio isn't on the supported list and I don't want to brick the device. What should I do?

Go here and flash the 7.28 Froyo radio http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=18 that should do the trick. This is assuming you flashed the Froyo RUU.
I flashed the Gingerbread image, I didn't use the RUU because I was having problems connecting.
I believe you can still flash the Froyo radio. If not just flash the Froyo Ruu, you can also get the PB31IMG file for it at pvillcomp.com. Then flash the 7.28 radio. If you do this, the phone should receive the OTA gingerbread update.
Thanks, that's what I figured. I just downgraded to Froyo to be on the safe side.
Edit: I just flashed the S-On zip via CWM and was curious if it would replace CWM with the stock recovery, it didn't. So now I have a phone with S-On and CWM, what should I do?
Go here, grab the stock recovery and flash it in Hboot. I'm not sure if you will have to reroot first or not. Give it a shot and let me know.

You should be able to run the PB13IMGwhatver zip again and it will give you the Stock Recovery and Stock Rom.
My advice would be to run the newest Gingerbread Stock PBIMG so as to not have to downgrade, then boot, then download OTA, then run that and so on. Simply flash one PBIMG and be over with it
Hope this helps....
Yea, I figured that's probably what I could do. I downloaded the stock recovery and tried to flash it but it wouldn't go. HBoot detected it but never asked me if I wanted to apply it.

Thats because your s-on now. S-off is what enables us to flash radios and custom recoveries like clockwork. You need to do and ruu, either a PB31IMG.zip thru hboot, or the ruu.exe with a pc. That is the only way to get the stock recovery now that your s-on.

s-off / on is not the same as root. A phone can be rooted and still be s-on. However the only way to flash an unsigned file thru hboot on the incredible is with s-off. As far as i know htc has never officialy released a signed recovery only file. So in order to get the stock recovery while s-on you would have to use a signed ruu. Thats all i was trying to say.

This is what I tried to flash but it didn't give me any option to update it.
I'm trying to root my brothers Evo again and running into some problems.
Back story: I had rooted his device with Revolutionary and he was running CM7 just fine. He started to have troubles with his screen so we unrooted it and got S-ON back. He took his phone to Sprint and instead of replacing the device, they decided to just replace the screen on it.
Current story: Downloaded Revolutionary and ran it and got this;
Code:
=============================================
| Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery Tool 0.4pre4 |
=============================================
Brought to you by AlphaRev & unrEVOked.
Waiting for device...
Found your device: PC36100 (supersonic-6.17.0001, Android: 2.3.3, ROM version: 4.53.651.1)
Your device is already S-OFF, what exactly do you think you're doing? Not setting S-OFF.
Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash ClockworkMod Recovery? [Y/ny
Downloading recovery for your phone (supersonic)...Done.
Rebooting to fastboot...
Flashing recovery over fastboot...INFOsignature checking...
FAILED. Unable to flash recovery. Please download custom recovery yourself and flash it over fastboot.
So here I am with the HBOOT saying that S-ON and Revolutionary telling me it's off and won't turn it off.
Not sure where to go from here!?
Thanks!
When it tells you that your Device is already S-OFF, you should have an option to turn it off regardless.
If that doesn't work, I guess you could try and use another method to do it.
and if THOSE don't work, I guess you could just sbf flash it it
I don't have an option to turn it off regardless.. it finds the device and logs the fact it thinks S-OFF is present and asks to download the recovery.
I thought revolutionary was the only option for HBOOT 1.6 at this point. Is this incorrect?
Also what do you mean by sbf flash it?

You didn't do the last step after getting S-ON, which is flashing a stock ROM. Because of your HBOOT version, Revolutionary thinks you're already S-OFF. You need to flash a stock ROM to normalize your HBOOT version, and then Revolutionary will work.
He cannot flash a stock ROM if he is S-ON. Sbf basically resets everything on your phone back to its "out of the box" state
@Druke, can you get to recovery? If there is no recovery you may want to RUU back to 4.54 then try revolutionary again. Or just go through the un-rooting steps again.

This is incorrect. You can flash a signed HTC stock ROM in PC36IMG format (or RUU on a PC for that matter) just fine. As I said, that's the last necessary step to returning the device to stock conditions. Trust me, I've done it probably almost 100 times.
P.S. Since I'm the one that came up with the unrooting method that was used, I would know .

The unrooting Revolutionary root link in my sig has links to some PC36IMG zips that can be flashed in bootloader.
I recommend the 4.54 version. Sometimes it won't work if you're using a version that's too old, or if your SD card isn't a high capacity card or got corrupted somehow.

4.54 RUU or PC36IMG is the most likely to work, however, 4.24 and 4.53 contain the same HBOOT needed for Revolutionary to work again as well.

Ok, I did something stupid and now I think I bricked my phone.
I wanted to go back to stock by flashing an RUU and it failed. Naturally, I remembered I was S-OFF so I went and downloaded the alpharev hboot images required to go back to stock. However, I flashed the downgrader and forgot to flash the Stock HBOOT. I flashed the RUU and now my phone is S-ON and stuck on the wrong HBOOT and thus cannot flash the system partition. Is there anyway I can recover the phone? It is stuck on the HTC screen with 4 triangles on either side. I can access fastboot but can't do anything in there.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you flashed the AlphaRev downgrader HBOOT then the process to unroot using the PB99IMG.zip will restore your device to a working condition and S-ON. I have used this method to unroot many times, the HBOOT contained in the PB99IMG.zip will overwrite the AlphaRev downgrader HBOOT.
The last brick I recovered from was flashing a NEXUS ONE custom HBOOT to my Desire and even after that I was able to revive it.
