If you have an unlocked bootloader please research before you update! I know ota updates will brick phones with unlocked bootloaders, im not sure about ones from pc companion.

The pc companion shows new update but won't allow the user to actually upgrade with a unlocked bootloader.

Hey Folks
I tried now 2 times to get on the new Firmwareversion 4.x for the Arc with root.
Every Time i tried to Unlock per OTA the Phone bricked. So the Bootloader must be open.
I don´t touched the Bootloader, but i think the Bootloader is open, because the Phone had SimLock and i unlocked the phone with SETools with Testpoint Methode.
How do I know if the boot loader can be unlocked on my phone?
It is possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases of our 2011 Xperia™ phones, such as Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ pro and Xperia™ PLAY. Your phone has to fulfill a number of requirements, for example, you can’t unlock the boot loader if you have a SIM lock protected phone. There are other requirements as well, depending on your market and the original configuration of your phone.

is your bootloader unlocked? NEVER accept any OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader, use flashtool!

I am trying to update my xperia ion to version 3.7 from 2.68. But its not happening. I tried with pc companion as well as OTA. Both say that phone has the latest version of firmware. I tried to perform repair via pc companion but it re-installed same version of firmware 2.68. Also my phone heats up quickly while browsing internet on 3G and battery gets drained quickly.
I checked with Sony service station and they are ready to replace my phone as i am facing heating and battery issue. But before replacing the phone i would like to check if issue has been solved in firmware version 3.7. I am concerned about flashing phone directly as it might void the warranty.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

I have an Xperia Arc (not S) with an unlockable bootloader. It's firmware is lt15A and it's running Android 2.3.4. I checked for updates and none are avaialable. It's Rogers branded. Can anything be done to it?

try update via sony pc software. AFAIK ICS needs to be installed over pc companion from sony. in rare cases even then tells u that no update avaiable... than:
root it & flash stock ics. ftf via flashtool
