I purchased the desire for the high spec, question
how much memory should you have free for programs .. ive done a hard reset and only have around 130mb of program memory free
when you read the spec its
ROM: 512 MB
RAM: 576 MB
where is the rest of the space ???
anyone got higher program memory ??? can this be changed ??
mind you i still have 40+ mb left with shed loads of programs but would like higher
superb phone though
i am currently using advance stock kernal but still the ram allotment is 635 i dont want z ram all those stuff as i need more ram when os can also take some space which is fine as the reserved ram is not used at all taking more space in the alloted memory still
I want a custom kernal which can allot atleast 750mb of ram to user when loaded as usual it take 350-400 still i have 350 which is fine for me.
But reserving some ram and not using to the core is not acceptable.
As many other companies does the same and they know 30-35 for OS and rest for user but i can see even xperia P it has 800 mb ram to user visibility and in Samsung galaxy s3 897 mb ram why xperia S along having a different setup. Dont tell Hardware reserve its not acceptable.
I would appreciate if any one guide on how to modify the ram .
Also i dont want any surprise that xperia doesnt have 1gb ram.
Those RAM you don't see is reserved for the rest of the device, specially GPU.

Why there is always about 790mb free ram instead of 1gb as in galaxy? how we can free more ram beyond 790mb to make it 1gb?
thx
Why would you make more free ram ? Free ram is wasted ram in android, its the way it handles it
my question is why 300mb less as s3, both are android why galaxy series give more free ram
Don't know......
Your trying to tell me that the S3 has 1gb memory available when running, your trying to say that android 4.xx is doing nothing in the background and still operating??????
Please post screen shots.

are you doing anythin with your phone? because it doesn't look like...and if you're doing much then it might be due to that it doesn't display it right...
but it could be also that sense is way heavier then touchwiz but also much better...i also don't know
Our device has a 1 GB RAM chip. Why do we see only 693 MB available? On other 1 GB phones the available RAM is at least 850 MB, sometimes even 920..940 MB. Where is the remaining RAM in Nexus?
for the GPU

Is it possible to redistribute this memory like in PCs with integrated video?

Hi,
My phone shows specification as 1 gb ram, and when i open app manager, it shows as total 750 mb of which approx 100-150 mb is free(which has cached processes).
However, as per my knowledge the os should be consuming space in ram, but the fixed 250 mb shouldnt be removed from total ram as far as my knowledge.
So is this some kind of config error or is this accurate? pls help me shed me some light on the matter,
- Hardik

This is normal. Only around 750MB RAM is usable. The rest is SYSTEM reserved RAM, which we can never use. And even of those 750MB, much is used to run necessary system applications to get your ROM going. The amount left for actual user apps is way lower. Perhaps only in the 300MB range.
Uodate with more screenshot
I took a screenshot from a Micromax Phone having 1 gb ram, and one from my galaxy nexus, which also has 1 gb ram,
the galaxy nexus total is 750 snd micromax is 966 mb, i think there is problem in my galaxy nexus ramdisk
