ice cream sandwich user interface. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

remember how most of the really new stuff that was meant for ice cream sandwich (as far as ui is concerned) is now being pushed out for jelly bean? pretty wild to think, huh?

yes, i'm remembering that google mentioned the big ui changes that were meant for ice cream sandwich have been postponed to jelly bean. it's very possible to be excited for both, and that would accurately describe me.

Can't wait to see what G's lawn statue will look like. A green jelly bean with arms? XD

There is probably some merit to this claim. Google set a dead line for code and features to give themselves time to work out bugs and tweak what they had. Im sure any company that tries to stick to deadlines has to draw the line at some point in time. Biting off more than you can chew andignoring expected deadlines causes delays.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.

The only UI change android needed was hardware acceleration imho.

I have heard this too, but just as a rumor on here. Seeing the trade show though, I believe it, there's very few changes from Gingerbread.
There were almost none from Froyo either. Honestly, beyond improvements to the launcher (an irrelevance considering ADW and the like exist) I can't think of how the interface could be improved.

Maybe he said that to stir the pot and get people talking about Jelly Bean? I for one got very excited, as ICS seems to be pretty perfect in my opinion and I can't wait for Jelly Bean to improve it even further.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Hi guys,
So I was reading a dutch tech news site and came across this:
Android Ice Cream Sandwich
Apparently there is a guy who bought a Google Nexus S and found Android Ice Cream Sandwich on it. So what do you think? Is this legit?
Are there already developers going crazy about this and wanting to make this work for the Desire?
I'm kinda curious, it looks nice, but I've seen some other stuff so it might be a home launcher.
What do you guys think?
Here you can see the Android version and the Build number

Translation of article:
A video might show the interface of Google's new Android version: Ice Cream Sandwich. Many of the interface elements are from the tablet version Honeycomb. Google will probably announce Ice Cream on the 11th of October.
The video is according to Engadget made by someone who bought a Google Nexus S on eBay and to his surprise he found a test version of Ice Cream Sandwich on it. We can't check if it's real. Ice Cream Sandwich will, if the video is authentic, borrow a lot of elements of Android Honeycomb, the tablet version of Android. The multitask menu can be seen and the main menu has changed. There are no buttons on the screen for Home, Menu and Back, something that Honeycomb does have.
Ice Cream Sandwich is the next version of Android but Google didn't release a lot information about it. This will probably happen in two weeks, when Google and Samsung give a press conference at the American telecom exhibition CTIA. The invitation, the also was sent to Tweakers.net does not say what it is about, only that the press can come and take a look at 'what's new in android'.
The successor will probably be announced since the event is owned by Samsung. The device, that is know as Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Prime, should get a 4.7" screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. De processor isn't known; they are speculating that Google would choose for a Omap4-cpu from Texas Instruments but Samsung recently announced a new version of their own Exynos-soc.
if u want know much more
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281442
here the same guy that did the video, has got his phone wiped
if u read the thread, a know nexus s dev, seems sure that the phone was runnning a real ICS build..but the phone has been remote wiped by google..so no leak seems possible anymore now
the real question is why someone with ICS (test build phone?) should sell the phone over ebay to an unknow guy?
Ah thanks for the reply .
Shame they wiped it, makes sense for them though.
the whole 'got it from ebay' story sounds shaky to me, especially coupled with remote wipe which prevents anything from being shown in reality.
I would believe it more if someone found it on a train
I assume its just an ICS Test build too...
Not sure if its the real deal or not but hopefully it may be only a few weeks or so until its officially released. What does anyone reckon the chances of a usable build for the Desire would be? hopefully the min system requirements are low and the Desire can live even longer!

with apps2sd / data2sd I would imagine it would run ICS - I thought I read someone that ICS should run on anything that can run GB near enough.
Aren't there a few flaky Ports of HC for Desire? ICS will hopefully be a heck of a lot more compatible than HC for a start
I think it may be a fairly lengthy time till there is a full stable port of an ICS with sense rom though - but AOSP might come fairly swiftly.

(REQ) TW launcher for CM9

Honestly not sure if that is possible. I believe it relies heavily on the twframework-res.apk and I don't know how you could get around that. It would be OK as an option for any AOSP ROM. I just don't see how it would work. Sorry.
You can give this a shot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
I don't have CM9 installed at the moment, so can't test, but it works with other builds than Samsung in general, so don't see why it wouldn't with CM9 ? I've used it on another phone quite a while back. Worked fine.

Personally I love both. TW 4.5 does not work. I read that some have had luck with getting TW 4.5 to work. Mainly I was wondering if anyone could get TW 4.5 to function.
Why all the hate for TW? It's much better than sense or motoblur (oh god....motoblur). I'd take it over stock GB any day.

All of them suck Touchwiz, Sense, the whole lot. Just wish they would just leave it as AOSP.
Lets see stock AOSP build about 90MB
Touch wiz build about 330MB
That is a huge increase for very little extra

Haha agreed. I used to have the Droid 1 and all the ROMs where about 50mb... I come to this phone and they are .25 to .3 GB and I was so shocked. AOSP is the best in my opinion. I do see the appeal of TW to some though

[APP/MOD] Google Now fully ported/working for ICS ;)

**I take no credit for this, nor am I in any way affiliated with its development**
I wanted to post this here for anyone out there who did not know this was available. Also for anyone like me who wanted to enjoy Google Now, but does not currently want to run Jellybean at this time. I installed this yesterday and it has been working flawlessly on my GNex running AOKP M6!

(I am running Mikeyxda's Version 6 Offline/Online)
PS dont be worried, I know it looks a little naked. I just havn't gotten to setting up any cards, I've mainly been toying around with the voice search and learning the commands. But the cards are fully funtional, they were there after I installed the app, but I deleted them.
That is great and all but why on earth would you not be running JB right now? I can see other devices excited about this but we can have the whole package!

not sure how to answer this without sounding rude but...its my phone, i run what i want. sorry, not sure how else to word it.
if someone had a gun to my head and forced me to give an explanation other than that, it would be that I love AOKP, and i want to wait until there is an AOKP JB release.
ive never been one to run and grab the newest thing the second it hits the shelf (no pun intended). id rather sit back and wait until everything i want in a rom is available and stable. ive tried jellybean, i flashed it, explored it, and was not 100% satisfied with what it had to offer thus far, so i flashed back to aokp with which i am 100% satisfied. i certainly experiment with new things when they come out, but I love my phone and I will not sacrafice my personal experience just to be able to say that i have the newest thing. instead, i will hold strong, and monitor the new thing until im ready to run it on a daily basis.
hey, you asked

I dont run JB because AOKP Milestone 6 runs better/smoother than JB and has more tweaks implemented.

Pole count: Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, or Jelly Bean

Just wondering what everyone's favorite is by a pole vote. We would like to know which version you will most likely be using after JB Source comes out.
Please use the following format when you reply. KEEP the count rolling by adding the next number instead of the last post and put a star in front of your pick so it is indicated that is your pick. I will update the pole in this post if it is easily countable. So the next count by rovar should be 0 GB, 1 ICS, *1JB and the next if GB would be *1 GB, 1 ICS, 1 JB
Pole tally:
0 for Gingerbread
*1 for Ice Cream Sandwich
0 for Jelly Bean
Your Reason: I like having flash support. Until JB comes out with it or a DEV makes a ROM with Flash (if possible). I could change my mind though if Butter is really Better flash really isn't required- BUT currently I don't use Chrome but I like it. GB is great too but I like the pull down on ICS way better.
Your Version picks Pro's: ROM I am using is very good for work and play.
Your Version picks Con's: When I get a phone call- if I have other Apps open the phone really lags.
Please be respectful of others opinions. I am posting this so we can all see what others think and maybe to learn about stuff we didn't know or just nod our heads and go "yep". And please keep you comments on Tally's professional and respectful. Some of us are young, old, non-techies and ridiculous techies. I know some of you troll's out there are going to have fun with this, so what ever. Troll's will be Troll's.

IF and WHEN JB source is avaliable for this phone I'll:
0 for Gingerbread
1 for Ice Cream Sandwich
*1 for Jelly Bean
Your Reason: I like the latest shiny, with or without bugs.
Your Version picks Pro's: Stock ROM debloated by myself always ftw
Your Version picks Con's: Have to wait for someone to release fixes to stock "issues" (hotspot).
IF and WHEN JB source is avaliable for this phone I'll:
0 for Gingerbread
1 for Ice Cream Sandwich
*2 for Jelly Bean
Your Reason: New things are always fun to try
Your Version picks Pro's: Calk on JB
Your Version picks Con's: Will be waiting a while for Calk's JB version.
1* for Gingerbread
1 for Ice Cream Sandwich
2 for Jelly Bean
Your Reason: Data speeds/ping. I tether a lot because my college blocks online gaming.
Your Version picks Pro's: It is quick, snappy, and stable.
Your Version picks Con's: The font is far too big and I miss the ICS AOSP launcher.
How does one do a pole vote? Is that like a pole vault, but we jump over voting booths, instead?

Yes, here on XDA everything is possible. Wait for Q2 and our devs will release jb 4.2 for sure with sense 5.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD
I very highly doubt that (the official 4.2 release, not the port w/ sense 5)
Where did you get the picture from?

Ha we wouldn't even get ICS because "DHD can't run ICS" or "sense 3.0 is the best setup for DHD"
http://technosamigos.com/htc-android-4-2-jelly-bean-update-device-list-schedule/ maybe
Let's not start this again guys, let it be.
Sent from a dream.
That would be quite interesting if it would be true. But keeping in mind what happened before it's totally not worth looking forward to this. Neither the source is confirmed/reliable...
Very, very unlikely since we were skipped by the ICS update, and other manufacturers are dropping their dual core phones...
This was most probably a typo.
And since most of us on XDA are already rooted, I would definitely go with a mooded JB anyway
would be a dream we hope. :good:

They didnt say it cant run ics, they recognised it could but it woukd mean a full wipe because if partitioning size. And keeping the customers data integrity intact comes before everything else. The desire x - not sure - then the hd is a type or the whole things fabricated. Somebodys having a laugh. Still hoping for the ics update on htcdev, if that does come it really will be the last.
True I believe it when I see it, and with HTC we will never see it.
think so im running a 4.2.2 atm its not great but its a custom rom it doesnt lag that much but it doesnt have google services which is a downside to this one...

I already upgrade lot of times on my DesireHD no matter ics, jelly bean etc.

We don't know yet, since it's not out yet, so we don't know what it entails.
First time I've read it I thought about a pure android 4.2 versión without sense ...
I think that 5.0 will be not much more heavier than 4.2
