No Speech input? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to try Iris but I have not text to speech input,I might of deleted (thinking I would never use it) but I want it back again. Which file is it?

What did you delete? The whole TTS engine or just the voices?

I'm not sure if this is what you need but when I installed google translator and another software it wouldn't detect speech input and asked me to download this.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.voicesearch
The google translator never told me what was missing, and the 3rd party app gracefully told me what to install to make it work, shame on google.

Is that the siri wannabe?

I think I have your answer

Your topic is Speech to Text but your question relates to text to speech??
On the SE XPlay the "Speech to text" option is hidden via the use of the "international keyboard" which is missing the "mic" icon to enable you to speak into your phone and have it interpreted by the phone into text.
I installed "Gingerbread keyboard" from the market (I know that we are all running gingerbread but SE has not used the "Android default keyboard" with the play) then after selecting this as the default keyboard Speech to text will be possible.

google voice??

Google Now Doesn't Speak

Please forgive me, I have searched but 'Google Now' isn't a great search term...
Basically, I get no voice feedback when using voice search or the Google Now app on my 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update. Initially I was underwhelmed by Google Now and wondered what the fuss was, until I discovered it should be talking back to me in a Siri-like fashion.
I had the leaked 4.1 I/O release previously and same issue. Language is English and I have voice prompts turned on in the search settings.
Any ideas? It's a Google stock ROM and it never worked, so I really don't know what it could be.
Edit: Nevermind, same discussion here. Too bad there's no time-limited delete functionality here, feel free to delete.
Try this
There is my solution:
- Set your locale to whatever you want
- Set the Google Now Voice Language to English US
- Voice Output to Always
- Remove the tick(untick the box) on Hide Offensive Words
I spent hours of tinkering with this and tried all kinds of options, but in the end that solved it for me. This is because recently there was an update to Google Search, which is the application designation for Google Now and it introduced this bug.
I have my locale to my native one English UK en-GB and everything works like a charm as it should be and as it used to work before the update.

Make sure that you have downloaded the offline speech recognition in English US and maybe try asking something like "What's the time?". It will not talk back to all questions. Only the ones that were specifically pre-programmed. If it still doesn't work, try putting your system locale to English US and restarting your phone. And most importantly update your Talkback, Google Search and Google Voice search apps to their latest through the Play Store.
What I did now officially works on my O2 HTC One S and 3UK HTC One X, so it works for sure on those two.
I hope this helps

Search predicitons not working in some text fields.

When i'am using the swiftkey keyboard, (or swype for that matter), i do not get word predicitons in some text fields such as :-
1) Stock browser Search
2) Google Play Search Box,
And many other places.
IT is quite annoying because, the main idea of these apps is to provide meaningful predictions.. Is there anyway to fix this?
But what to Fix?

No. There's nothing wrong to get fixed!
Even with the HTC Sense Input, we don't get word suggestions in Stock or any other browser's address bar and play Store Search box as there we don't need any grammer.
The phone knows that the name of the website (in case of browser's address box) and the name of an app (in case of play store's search box) may not be there feeded in the dictionary. The names of the websites or apps aren't words that are there in a dictionary. But when you type a message, you're typing a language which needs grammar and these words used are there in the dictionary so the phone will automatically provide you word suggestions.

Dude, I agree in case of google play you probably don't require predictions..
But, wouldnt it be helpful if you had predictions if if u were searching for something loooong in the browser..
And as i said , they were only two examples... the predicions also don't work in text fields of 3rd party apps.
with swype u can save a word in the custom dictionary and, just "swype" to get those words/email id's/usernames/numbers passwords even in ANY text
So its was quite annoying when i switched over to swiftkey.
I heard the bug is fixed in android 4.0.4? Is there a workaround?

[Q] Swiftkey as default keyboard

I've searched and have found that with android 4.1.2 there is a problem with Swiftkey keyboard(or any other paid keyboard) not saving as default
after reboot. What I've found is that if I remove all other keyboards' apk it will solve the problem. I've done this except for "Google Voice Search".
I'd like to keep that. And now voice search pops up as default. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Edit: Well I went ahead with deleting voice search with one problem...doesn't exist under that name. Any help finding it?
I use Swiftkey as my default and i don't have that problem.. If you've Greenified Swiftkey, remove from it.. And please don't create new threads unless its an important issue..
Its a normal bug of Sony´s Firmware.

[Q] Can the remote be used for normal voice input (not just search)?

I'd like to be able to use voice input for normal text boxes in apps that don't support amazon's voice search. Is this even theoretically possible? Does it use android's speech API or is it something more proprietary?

In the normal version, Portuguese [PT] isn't working... bug?
Hey, this is a really great app! But it has a serious flaw:
After some questions, voice recognition and voice reply switches to english although it was supposed to listen and answer in German (set to German in settings).
Also, can you add an "listen on launch" setting?

Just noticed that somehow, the app lost my login and I had to re-login. Now it is back to my default language.
I tried to uninstall the normal version after purchasing and installing the pro version but so the pro no longer works. So is it necessary to have both the normal and the pro version at the same time?
I would like to install only the pro version, is this possible?
Thanks for the reply
I purchased this application for my watch but after a few commands it loses the set Italian language and the commands are set to English.
It does not work.

i don't have de pro version , google home devices , like smart lights, work fine for me.
So far, much better designed and simpler than GAssist. No need for a phone companion app. On the downside, it seems results are a scrollable webpage. Still lets me control my home devices, so I'm making the switch from GAssist to this one.

This is good! Had to turn of BT. Kept saying no internet. They will fix BT according to the response on youtube.
Was a pain in the ass to type the email and login. Managed to switch to handwriting somehow.
I like I can change the volume with bezel.
Controls all my home smart devices.
Asked to set a reminder. Crashed after I said the time. Then said number of tries exhausted. Please restart app. Then you just have to close it in "Recent Apps" and it works again.
Is there a way to switch to the normal on-watch keyboard during login, vice the T9 one? I'm unable to login in because, for some reason, the T9 keyboard keeps messing up my password.

T9 kept messing up my gmail and pw. It was not typing the correct letters.
I switched to handwriting by accident. So there must be a way.
Turn off predictive text so the T9 will work like it should.
I uninstalled the free version and purchased pro. You have have the free version installed with pro. I tried pro without the free version. Only works if both are installed.
When I turned off predictive text, the T9 worked as expected. When entering password, the handwriting input came up again somehow.
