(Q) back to stock odin package? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello, I was wondering if there was a full "back to stock" for odin or heimdall to to a full factory restoration. I know there are the system dumps but I would need the pit or tar as I did with my vibrant. I have searched the forums but if I missed it please just let me know and I can remove this post of its redundant.
This would help for most brick situations as well as hopefully regaining apps like vlingo and its double tap feature for those without a backup.

No. There is a odin to flash the stock un-rooted kernel, but you will still have CWM recovery. There is no odin for 100% stock.

I'm also waiting for that.... :-(

Looks like I'll be waiting as well.
Last night I was flashing a rom and made the mistake of formatting a few things in cwm and lost everything but my kernel so I was stuck at the tmobile 4g android boot. The blue bar would load but nothing past that.
Luckily my fiance has mt4g so I was able to download a Rom that way and flash it from her sd card when I put it in my sgs2 :-D

Bubby has stated in another thread that he is waiting on an upload and we should be set. It's coming.

Is there anything I can do in terms of uploads that could help?

[KERNEL][SGH-T989D] Telus Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // TLKJ3

Telus Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // TLKJ3 // SGH-T989D
Please note this is for the Telus SGH-T989D not the SGH-T989 T-Mobile variant.
Explanation
What we have here is a stock boot.img pulled from a rooted Telus SGH-T989D (Samsung Galaxy S II).
With this you can recover your phone using ODIN, in the case of a brick or just to return to a factory state.
Initramfs for Developers
I have extracted the boot.img and posted it up for all developers on my github.
Code:
https://github.com/bubby323/stock-initramfs-TLKJ3-galaxysII-telus
Downloads
Also to restore you're phone I have a nice little tar file that will take care of the job for you that you can grab from here.
How to Flash
We are going to be using Odin in this explanation to flash the stock kernel to your phone.
Downloads
First you are going to want to start by downloading all the needed files onto your computer and then place them onto your Desktop.
Samsung Kies
Odin3-v1.85.zip
SGH-T989D-Stock-TLKJ3-Kernel.tar
Process
Once you have everything downloaded and on your desktop, you are going to want to first install kies.
After this is done you should restart your computer for proper driver installation.
Next, extract Odin to a new folder on your Desktop. Leave the tar in the form it is.
Now, open up Odin by double clicking the .exe in the folder you extracted it to.
The most important step is now, you need to put your device into Download/ODIN mode so your computer will recognize it and be able to flash to it. To do this simply turn your phone off completely (or pull the battery). Then you are going to want to use the following button combination to force your device into download mode:
Hold the volume up/down and power button all at the same time.
Click to collapse
Now ODIN should have recognized your device ( it may take a while for the drivers to complete installation so don't panic the first time).
Lastly, we want to click on the PDA button and then search for the SGH-T989D-Stock-TLKJ3-Kernel.tar we download earlier and placed on the Desktop.
If all of the above has taken place you are free to hit the Start button.
Done!
If all has gone well at this point the flash should be proven successful and your phone should reboot like normal.
If so, please feel pressured to give yourself a pat on the back, that was tough!
Is this a new kernel?

This is a STOCK kernel for the TELUS version.
awesome !
thanks guys
Much appreciated guys. Any chance of a stock ROM in case someone ever needs to ship back to Telus?
If somebody wants to test the rom once I upload it then I will release it for everybody. Ill also work on the device report and build you your own Clockwork.

Great work Bubby.... maybe we'll have something to flash later??... Cheers!
Nice, I wonder if theres any differences from our Tmobile stock rom.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
isnt the hardware the same?
i wonder if we can flash telus rom onto tmobile t989..
warning: dont try this if you cant afford a brick!
I flashed the tar file on my tmobile phone. Only thing it did was change my boot animation from tmobile to telus.

its fairly easy. just use odin to flash a rooted kernel and super user, or use it to flash recovery and flash a custom rom.
Does anyone here have the stock modem? Or maybe someone can guide me on how to extract it from the phone?

Oh and btw is there a way of making this kernel rooted. That would be amazing so then we keep everything stock but rooted.

One more thing would this kernel have cwm recovery built in? I know the tmo has it but again it would be great if this stock kernel would be completed with recovery. Sorry for the many questions I was a very heavy user of bell sgs2 I gotta get used to Hercules now

[Q] Flash samfirmware through odin?

I went to samfirmware and got my firmware, and there is only one file (a .tar.md5)
What do I do with it? I have odin 4.03

unless otherwise noted by samfirmware, their stock ROMs are Odin flashable.
How would I go about it? Which options would I use?
Sorry, I'm an odin noob.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using XDA
I odined it with pda and make sure only auto reboot is checked and should be good to go... oh I used odin 1.85
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
And I presume yours went smooth? Also, did yours get rid of clockwork recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using XDA
Never checked honestly... Should take it off thought cause it's a md5 so... Hell try it. U.shouldnt mess it phone up if I don't go through u put it in the wrong spot
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
Okay it worked, but it's still overclocked and it still has root.... Its installing the OTA 2.3.6 right now
(edit)
Just checked, Clockwork is gone.
:| Are you doing this because of ICS? Because if it comes out it will only be maybe a couple weeks before root and then you can just flash that on top of your current rooted instead of having to go through more work...
Hopefully we will get AoSP ICS so I won't need the touchwiz ugly version. (unless, however, it's the new tw that comes with GS3 )
Yes, prep for ics. I want ics as fast as possible! (And I love touchwiz)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using XDA
Gonna be faster after dman gets ahold of a phone... B4 art even gets it started!

I tried and same thing it passes in Odin and then when rebooting it gets hung up on the black screen with the white "Samsung Galaxy S3" screen.
Please help I dont know what else to do or what else to try?
I didnt remove the md5 off of the file like one person said to do mainly because im not sure how to but other than that I am lost
Is there something i was supposed to do with the dll file that came with it as well? I mean i have to be doing something wrong i just dont understand why its saying pass but is still hanging up at that galaxy s3 screen right after the samsung screen?
I am so in need of help
I too am having the same issue, and I have tried all the stock ODIN roms.
I am stuck on the samsung screen too. Any one have any ideas? I just tried to flash CM10 today, when I have been on CM9 since the beginning of July, so... long story short I could not get back to CWM after CM10 boot looped me.
Any help?
Thanks!

When you download either one..its a zip file. I used 7zip to extract the tar file and used ODIN to flash it. So I'm lost when you say you changed the file name. Shouldnt have to do that.

No I know I did the same exact thing. Someone else said that he deleted the md5 extension at the end after the tar to get it to work I have done it both ways doesn't make a difference. I can still get to Odin mode as well as stock recovery just can't boot...

If 3e is the factory recovery i have already tried that multiple times.
Maybe something didn't flash properly through Odin. Sucks to say but redownload the stock file.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I FIXED IT....
OK if anyone else runs into this what i did was change two things and one of the two worked. FIrst of all I had been using the newest Odin 3.0.7 I downloaded Odin 3.0.4 instead and tried that. The other thing was I used the older Samsung ATT Image which was the i747UCALEM image rather than the newest one.
I noticed right off the bat in Odin it said PASS in green as soon as it was done where as before it would reboot the phone before saying PASS. So I watched my phone reboot and get pass that darn Galaxy screen and about laid a flipping GOLDEN egg! LOL
:highfive::highfive::good::laugh::laugh::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory:
Nice man. Congrats. I still use Odin 1.85 lol ..

HAHA, i hear ya bro I am thinking more or less thats what it was.
Can anyone explain to me why the OP was having problems, now that the solution has been identified?
I'd like to understand issues like this before flashing myself.
Thanks.
He was using a newer version of ODIN (3.0.7)...so he tried an older version (3.0.4) and it worked.

I deleted it because it was a stupid question that I should have known the answer to. It was when you recover a nandroid does the recovery and kernel from when you made the android come with it.
My problem was I am and was on king kang and decided to flash a modem. I didn't realize the jb modems were only for tw roms so when I had no data I though I needed to update prl and profile. I flashed a stock rooted rom from repository, it was rooted but didn't mention had no recovery. Odin kept falling when trying to put a new recovery on. And after 5 hours of fail I finally succeed with a one click from repository. After flashing a modem (fi27) I think. I just wanted to make sure I want going to be stuck with no recovery again because that really sucked. I didn't mention this in the original question but all is well now and I'm back on king kang

Stuck on black Galaxy note 2 screen

Someone please help me. I tried to flash the unroot back to stock through twrp as ma5 wasn't working all that well for me and i wanted to start from scratch unrooted and get the sprint ova for the ma7.
So i flashed the file and it said that it was successful. It even went to the special recovery like it was supposed to before rebooting. Now we get to the problem. The phone wont reboot. It just stays on the first black galaxy note 2 screen. Is there anything i can do to fix this? Someone please help me.
U coukd try and flash another rom or use odin to flash a stock rom.

I tried both of those already. It acts like everything flashes ok but then when it reboots, it stays on the black note 2 screen
You can try flashing twrp through odin and make sure auto reboot is not checked
Then reboot into recovery and flash a rom.
Unless you can reboot into recivery, cause if you can then this is pointless.

I had to order a new phone through Sprint. Luckily it was so screed up they couldn't tell whether it was rooted or not. Which is double good because I also had a broken secure element
