[Q] Does adding swap from the SD card help with Sense ROMs? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Subject says it all. I am curious on first hand opinions, before I backup my sd card and try it. All Sense 3 or greater roms lag or get rosie reloads to much for my liking.

My DZ is running Virtuous Trentacinque beta at the moment with swap. So far I haven't had a single rosie reboot. It is running nicely and is very responsive

In my experience it helps a lot.

G2-sense rom question?

So I just came back to the g2 after leaving the g2x. I'm rooted any running CM 7.1. I'm looking for a sense rom with little problems. I don't care if its froyo or gingerbread I just want something that doesn't have the led, mms or missing sms problems. What are your suggestions? Thanks

Virtuous Unity has no CRT animation so no LED problems.

it does have sms problems though, this one is going to be your best bet VIRTUOUS SENSE
I have it downloaded but unsure about trying just yet? Have you ran this rom and how did u like it?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
I would suggest Virtuous 1.0.2. It is a Froyo Sense 2.1 ROM that is very stable. The only issue with it is when you use one of the non-standard kernels there are screen-wake issues. This is solved by using SetCPU or CPUTuner and setting a broader range of frequencies in the screen off profile.
I tried virtuous 1.0.2 and it was extremely laggy. I took a while to scroll from screen to screen and open the app drawer. I liked the way insert coin ran but couldn't get past the led problem.

Did you use CWM or Rom Manager to flast 1.0.2? RM is not a good way to flash roms as it can be alittle tempermental.
Also, when you flash, reboot before you do any configurations. 1.0.2 has scripts that run on first boot which may give you a false first impression.

Faster because it is almost stock Android and no additional hacks like in CM7 + Needs less space on system partition (because of no added apps).
Cheers for the reply, I assume to take advantage of that extra space I need to s-off and use custom hboot right?
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
I only used MIUI aosp RoM its very fast and smooth
CyanogenMOD 7
I used it for 2 months and never have problems with it!
GingerVillain, Cyanogenmod
Cyanogen. In my experience the fastest ROM my phone's ever seen.
or try MIUI if you're looking for a whole new UI experience - it's pretty damn good. Can't bring myself to change it

Nah you need not, but if you want the extra space you should.
Also it's down to preferences, but my experience also give the win to oxygen hands down. CM is nice in its own way, but at some points it's just disturbingly complex(yes you get a lot of extra features which is unneeded for me) and many times it stutter at some user-interactions, where oxygen just feels more solid as well as minimal to me.
Redux 1.2. No word of a lie.
HTC Desire, Redux 1.2, S-OFF, CM7 HBOOT.
Tried the latest CM7 but it was rather 'sluggish'... Now tried Redux 1.2 and it's really really nice. DIdn't try Oxygen, perhaps I'll do it when I have some time, but not right now!
For me Oxygenrom offers the best performance. Battery life is also quite good
So I've been running Oxygen 2.2 then 2.2.1 and now I'm on the Redux2 snapshot. Still hard to choose between them. But because it's complete, I would change my suggestion to Oxygen.
PHONE: HTC Desire GSM, S-OFF
ROM: Redux2 Snapshot 18082011
RADIO: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
KERNEL: thalamus 2.6.35.14_r1
Oxygen is the best since it is minimal so that you can add many things accordingly to your needs.
Whats best is subjective. Whats fastest depends on how you use your phone. The fastest ROM I have tried is Redux 1.2
Also, just because something is close to stock doesn't automatically mean its going to be faster.
Fastest and best aosp I've found is GingerVillain 2.8
All the benefits of CM7 but with the added tweaks from Richard Trip.
(Found the home screens were a little sluggish when going from one to another when I first started using it, but then added Launcher Pro to it and now it flies!)

That's quite a jump I say. Think Sense 3.0 and 2.1+3.0 hybrids should be smoother if 3.5 is the smoothest, no?

thats not necessary true as sense 3.5 needs less cpu power then 3.0...or so i've read... also, in my experience, all the sense 3.0/2.1+3.0 that i have tried have lags. In contrast, using r5.0, coolbravos9(sense 2.1) and other sense1.9(eg tobascos silky), i experienced no lags...but thats just me...
Lag issue
I am using RunnymedeMod007, no lag issue whatsoever, (radi bwe odlicno)

[Q] Fastest HTC Desire Rom (performance)

Hi all,
I'm currently looking for the fastest / best performing HTC Desire Rom.
As I'm playing Ingress, its really slow and closes very often. I was thinking flashing a Rom without Sense, as it would probably perform better.
I guess 2.3 is faster than the new built? Or is it the other way around?
Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if I should use a 2.3 no-sense Rom?
Regards

I would recommend AOKP VJ 4.2.2 Jelly Bean v2.1. In my eyes it is one of the fastest, smoothest and most stable CM 10.1 based ROMs at the moment. I appreciate that it constantly keeps the mem free above 100mb.
i'd say Mildwild roms are the fastest and most stable.
Been using them for a long time now....still very pleased with them.
They have a few small issues, but overall...the fastest roms available if u ask me.
Currently running MW9.5 Redux, but used MW8 before....i find MW8 a little bit faster and better...it's got a few more options than MW9.5
...hoping for and upgrade of the MW8 version....
Wanted to say thx for all your suggestions. I'm running 4.2.2 VJ CM 10.1 now, and its awesome.
Pretty fast, and i got plenty of RAM, so Ingress does not close when minimizing (not everytime at least)
Thx! :highfive:
