What's wrong with the jumplist? You don't have to use it you can still scroll if needed.
Please help me in understanding why you would want to turn off such a useful feature?
Is there any way to turn it on ?
I have mango but there is no jumplist :/

Because maybe they don't like it? I'd love to have the option to turn it off as well.
You need to have a certain # of apps, then it appears. I believe 20 or 25.

That does not seem to work. I just downloaded a bunch of apps and still no jumplist
If you have your phone unlocked, you should edit the registry with some RegEditor..
Find "GroupingTreshold" in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Start
If have setted it in 60 because I prefer scrolling than using the sortlist.. You can set it to any number, but be carefull because when you have it, you will still have it, no matter if you uninstall apps..
To delete the sortlist you should change the number in the registry higher than the apps you have..
If you have 45 or more apps, the jumplist will appear. Anything under 45 and it should not appear.
If it still is displayed when you have less than 45 apps, then there is something messed up in your registry. A hard reset will fix this issue, or you can go into the registry (if you have a dev unlocked phone), and edit the "GroupingThreshold" key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Start to the default of 45 (or really, any number you want).
This is a rare but known bug. Some people have reported that their GroupingThreshold value was set at 1 when they checked the registry.
Guys, do you know the registry key to change a number of recent games (default is 3)?

I did so, i found an old thread stating this, it didn't work (after a reboot it's set again to 0). I've tried setting it to 1000 and now works :O

Hi all,
It seems that certain people (most notably multiple HD2 users) are having crashes and other issues with ArkSwitch. I have a Fuze (Touch Pro), and I'm not experiencing these issues. Therefore, it's virtually impossible for me to fix them.
I ask for your help finding and fixing these bugs, if you have any device that is not a Touch Pro. The source code is available at http://arkswitch.codeplex.com and I would really appreciate some help from any devs that have an HD2 or pretty much any device other than my own.
Let's use this thread to discuss code issues, and the "main" thread for everything else.
Thanks a lot!
Hi ark,
I'll take a look into it (I have an HD2, and sometimes it freezes for me also)
I've coding skills so no worries
See you later
PS. Nice app!
Cool, thanks!
Works fine on my HD
Only crashes when i try to include a image as a selector
hi Arktronic,
I have included ArkSwitch in my ROM v1.8, but have to remove it in next release.
Here are some problems found:
- I have to exclude it from CleanRAM otherwise CleanRAM will take the phone down.
- top taskbar (I'm using WM6.5.5) will be no longer accessible if ArkSwitch has been terminated by other apps (such as Task Manager 3.1, CleanRAM), or sometimes closed by itself.
However, I like the way ArkSwtich "take down" other apps, such as cprog.exe (Phone). It really removes cprog from the memory and free up some RAM without crashing the phone.
Is it possible to make ArkSwitch NOT to stay in RAM?
P/S: Sorry, I'm off topic. You want to discuss coding? Where can I get the code?
If you don't want ArkSwitch to stay in RAM, enable WM65 compatibility mode. Depending on what the user does then, it will either quit or minimize (but be friendly to the system if killed by CleanRAM or others).
Like I said in the first post, the source code is available here: http://arkswitch.codeplex.com/
Okay I did a debug session,
It seems to freeze here:
// Get the window text or else continue enumerating.
if (!GetWindowText(hwnd, WindowTextSb, 1024)) return 1;
in
static int EnumWindowsCallback(IntPtr hwnd, uint lParam)
In some cases the function GetWindowText doesn't return...
If I remove this call, it will load without any freeze
Interesting. Does that happen when there is another app that has frozen, or is it just random?
Maybe I forgot to lock that callback procedure in memory to prevent the GC from moving it around...

Seems that just some apps makes it freeze. I just noticed that an app written by me in c++ makes it freezing every time
If it is closed instead, arkswitch loads up normally.
I forgot:
It is not frozen. But it hosts a IE control in it if that could help.
btw I don't think is a GC problem...
I don't think an IE control would have such an effect. Is it a normal window, and does it have title text?

I was searching a way to implement IE Control correctly due to netcf's scrolling bug with it. My exe is a modification of this one http://cid-e91b74403814953e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/BrowserWithGestures/BrowserWithGestures.zip which I'm using as support to my main app...
I'll look at that when I get a chance. Thanks again!

I'm going to look again on that piece of your code instead, maybe I will figure it out because it freezes.
I think i found the answer:
Internally, GetWindowText calls SendMessage(hWnd, WM_GETTEXT) to the window.
Since the thread calling GetWindowText (your thread) and the thread that
owns the window are different threads, the SendMessage
internally becomes a PostMessage, which sticks the message in the owning
thread's message queue and blocks until the message is processed by the
owner thread. You are now at the mercy of the owner thread to process that
message. If that thread isn't running a message pump, you're stuck.

you should use
SendMessageTimeout(hWnd, WM_GETTEXT, ..., 1000L,...). You'll be blocked for
1 second tops. You can of course send in a longer delay, but 1 second
should be sufficient.

Let's fix it
I'll post fixed source as soon as I end.
Wow, great find! I'll change it as soon as I can. This explains why other apps freezing causes ArkSwitch itself to freeze.
EDIT: Oh, if you're going to change it yourself, that works too
Fixed. It doesn't freeze anymore.
I'm doing some other checks, then I'll post corrected source code

I read on codeplex "Removed global memory status information retrieval as a test..."
Why you did so?
Where I need to touch to re enable it?
PS. Thanks, i just like to help
I did it as I was testing various things with Long Zheng to determine why ArkSwitch crashed on his HD2. We seemed to get somewhere with the removal of that, but then it started crashing again. I suggest you just go with change set 44738, as that has the latest stuff in it, except for the unnecessary removal of global memory info.

Check out my free app in the Marketplace: AppFinder
AppFinder is the fastest way to find apps by name bar none.
Start typing the name of an app or publisher, and the search results are shown instantly.
tap one of the results to go to the marketplace page for the app.
Check it out and let me know what you think
Been using it last couple days, its a big help! Thanks!!!
I'll check it out thanks!
Thank you - it's very fast like the marketplace search should be. Good for quick looking apps if you know the name.
Are there any improvements coming? Like the Top Downloads or anything else?

does this fix the crash where it closed and wouldn't reopen for me (even after soft reset)?
I had to uninstall, reinstall to get it working again.
I don't think so.
Although I think I know the cause. I will have to roll the fix into another update.
I think there is a small window where the downloaded data file can be corrupted if the writing to flash is interrupted. It will be simple to fix. For now, if you hit it, uninstall reinstall is the only option.

AppFinder is all about making apps discoverable in the fastest way possible.
I think if you're not in the top 20 apps in the marketplace under any one of the categories, then as a developer you're invisible. AppFinder seeks to make it easier to find apps via search, and with the update, via browsing as well.
Update is in the hopper, still waiting for testing to complete...

locales
Ok, so I just figured out I've only been indexing the en-US locale
I've updated the data to include
{ "en-US", "en-GB", "en-IE", "en-CA", "en-IN", "en-AU", "en-HK", "en-SG", "de-DE", "fr-FR", "fr-BE", "de-AT", "de-CH", "it-IT", "en-NZ", "es-ES", "es-MX" };
this change is effective immediately as it is a data update. Still waiting for the update to make it through the approval process. It seems that the holiday has slowed things down a bit
The update finally arrived
Nice new features and still very fast. But unfortunately, in my case, it wont load after the second app start (even at first start if I switch the section). I always have to deinstall/reinstall again once the app was started.
Maybe you can take a look? Feels like a caching problem or something like that. I'm using a Samsung Omnia 7 in germany - if that helps
Feature wishlist:
1. add a settings screen to edit:
a.) the number of list entries on one page (10, 20, 50) to keep the app fast enough
b.) the section on loading (and maybe you also can set this to no section just for fast look-up app search - I used the app for this before the update)
2. Maybe you can use the OS-typical "left-to-right-scrolling-loading-dots" instead of the big ones?
3. New logo if there is enough time

Private Joker,
Thanks for the feedback.
First - there was a bug that only impacted the German locale! I was trying to save bandwidth by truncating unnecessary leading zeros in the price and this caused an exception when the locale was set to German. I've updated the data to include the leading zeros and this fixes the problem for Germans. You will have to uninstall and reinstall though to get it to work. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback even though the app was not working for you at all. I hope you will try again given that the data has been fixed.
Regarding your feedback -
I think you are right on the mark for #2 and #3
I don't understand 2b.
regarding 1a.
perf should not be impacted by the number of items that are shown -
Appfinder actually transfers the marketplace data to the device and indexes it locally. I do this because the network is really, really slow. Aside from having artists and albums mixed up with apps in the marketplace search results, I also was tired of waiting for results to load. Scrolling through the apps means waiting.
The delay at the beginning is caused by reading the marketplace data from flash and indexing it in RAM. Occasionally the loading dots will appear after launching (like the first time that you use it) because AppFinder has transfered a new data file and needs to parse it again. Instead of delaying every 10 or so apps in the list, there is one delay at the beginning (which is relatively small). Right now parsing the file takes about 4 seconds.
Perf could be greatly improve if I had access to memory mapped file APIs. Further compressing the data would help as well - The really slowest part is really reading from the flash. I can improve perf when a network update occurs by reading from the flash in the background before blocking - this would drop the update delay from ~4 seconds to ~1 second.
I could also not query as you're typing -- Waiting until the enter button has been pressed would reduce CPU load and any chunkiness - pressing search would just render the apps instantly.
Anyway, really appreciate your positive attitude and willingness to give feedback in light of what must be a frustrating experience. Please give it another try.
Thanks,
Eric
AppFinder update is in the marketplace!
v1.1 includes a Hot list, New list and Best list. Apps can be filtered to show only free apps.
The apps list shows developer, price, ratings and rank. The lists show the top 1000 apps in each category making browsing hot, new and best apps simple and fast.
When selecting an app from the list, pressing back from the marketplace page will return you to where you were in the app list.
As usual, the app list is displayed nearly instantly as you type, and in the app list there is no waiting for additional results to load as you scroll through the results.
Images are NOT included - I wanted to keep the display and information access absolutely as quick as possible and have traded off loading images.
Please give it a try and let me know what you think
Very nice. Runs smooth and results are displayed quickly. Nicely done. I've rated and reviewed for you too.
Only extra thing that i'd like to see (don't know if it's possible) would be a "highest rated" list that shows apps sorted by rating highest to lowest.
The "best" apps list attempts to order by highest rated.
The main problem is that a 5 star app with 1 rating probably should not out rank a 4 star app with 20 ratings. Best apps uses an algorithm to order apps based on the star rating and rating count.
Hi ebadger,
After this update I don't get any search box. When I start the app I first see a triangle for a second, then I see the search box flash for a split sec. After that I just see a black screen with 6 blinking white dots, like if it is loading. I see the menu too, but it does not matter what ever I choose.
I'm on a Samsung Omnia 7.
Best regards
kjw
do you see anything? the dots should only show while the local data structure is being populated. This should only take a few seconds. Once this completes, you should be able to press on the flames button and see a list of apps. Is this not working?
If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling - sorry for any inconvenience - I can make this more robust to data errors. I'm wondering if perhaps the download is interrupted or corrupted.
ack!
Ok, so it turns out that the behavior of float.Parse is different with German locale.
I just booted my device with German UI language and I can repro in the debugger - luckily it can be fixed with a data update.
I have now updated the data file. Unfortunately you will have to uninstall and reinstall to make it work.
I was trimming leading 0's on prices (i.e. sending .99 instead of 0.99) float.Parse works in English but not in German. Anyway, leading zeros are back.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience to the German users!
works better and hasn't crashed on me so I will edit my prev. ranking and give it 5 stars. Works great.

First of all I did a reisntall of appfinder.
Then I tried to switch to english locale and now appfinder started to work!
But when switching back to Swedish (since I live in Sweden) locale appfinder hangs on the loading dots screen.
So there might be issues with other locales too?

Uninstalled, restarted, installed. But it's a no go, sorry. Same dots...
Have you tried debugging in other locales (swedish for example)?

crud.
Ok, so there is definitely still an issue.
Any locale that uses the "," as a decimal seperator will cause an exception while loading.
I am converting the data to use scientific notation to work around -- the fix will be a little bit tricky. I think you'll have to switch your locale to english for the first boot - once the updated data file has been downloaded you can switch back to swedish and it should work. ugh!
Well, it looks like I definitely need to do another update to fix this particular problem.
Uninstalled, switch to english locale -> reboot, install. Now appfinder works great.
Switch to swedish locale -> reboot. Now I'm back to the loading dots in Appfinder, not working.
I don't really know what you are doing in the app that is locale dependant, but maybe it could be done in a more generic way? Like convert locale dependent data to english format, do your thing, and then convert back to current locale settings. And try to avoid converting different datatypes to text if it's not relly needed, a decimal variable is not locale dependant until converted to text... Just a thought...
Thanks for your effort, though!
Cheers
kjw,
Ok, I have been debugging in Swedish today. I have updated the data file such that it doesn't use the locale specific delimiter for floating points. I have converted the data over to use scientific notation instead. It's really a simple code fix as I can specify the locale settings to use when parsing - my mistake. I have confirmed that with the new data format (just uploaded), the steps:
1) uninstall
2) switch to English locale
3) run appfinder - wait for the dots
4) wait for the dots again
5) switch locale to Swedish forcing reboot
6) launch AppFinder
this will fix it such that it should just work with Swedish locale.
I'm sorry about the inconvenience - I'm working on an update now to fix this and other issues.
Eric
After following your steps it works in swedish locale!
Great work!
Thanks,
kjw
A lot of you guys have been asking about how to read/write/add values to the registry on Samsung devices, so I wrote a small app showing how to use the Samsung native DLLs to do so.
Please notice that you can use this app called RegistryViewer that works on all WP7 devices [read only for now, but useful to discover the registry] here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9716755&postcount=19
This app is limited too compared to the HTC ones, unfortunately a big part of the registry is restricted for read/write.

This is natural when you try to access restricted areas in the registry or you try to read a DWORD while it is a String and vice versa!

Wondering this myself. On my ATT Focus, once I got NoDo installed I started getting the following message when trying to run SamsungRegistry, "SamsungRegistry has been revoked by Microsoft. Please uninstall it."
Not a big deal, just wanted to switch my MobileOperator key back.
I've finally reach 10 unsigned app on my phone. Took way longer that I thought...
This is not new for anyone who's not spending time asking for unlock key, but I've made a small app to automate the process of pushing the limit to 100000.
Here it is: http://bit.ly/qpVyR4
Work on my HTC, may work on other device as well (let me know).
Warning: At least one person had problem deploying app on his Samsung after running this app.
Edit: Updated version with rollback button (which already exists but was hidden )
this has been out for like a month now..... but good job of creating one!

Exactly what I said... nothing new but packaged as a XAP
Advanced Configuration Tool for WP7 Beta
http://forum.touchxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=590&p=2349
has an option to remove the limit, plus set as many colour schemes as you like, and add single registry keys directly.
Its still beta but works a treat so far on my HD2, and comes with about 50 colours for the theme, or input your own with hex codes.
This tools works only on HTC. Minne should work on Samsung too, maybe on LG.
But if you have an HTC, AdvConfig is probably easier to use.
I'm not spending much time making pretty app
I ran this earlier (along with setting the key manually before), and it doesn't work. I still was limited to 10 apps.
But now, frighteningly, I'm unable to deploy -some- apps from Visual Studio (limit reached). I have a real dev unlock, never messed with Chevron.
Thanks, (nico)! I've removed this (stupid!) limit on my Focus (officially unlocked), everything works fine including deployment/debug from VS 2010. Good job!

I'm also officially unlock.
Like with folks with Chevron, I think the limit will be reseted periodically by Zune.
What do you mean by "some" apps?
You can't install more than 10 apps?
Not sure what do you mean, but I'll try to answer.
Using (official) unlock method, you won't be able to deploy more than 10 unsigned apps. 3 if you have a student account.
Chevron also have the same 10 limit (because they intentionally keep MS limit).
This registry tweak try to remove that limit.
In either way, this don't modify the number of app you can install though Marketplace, which is not limited.

I continued dealing with it until I got your XAP, I ran that yesterday and now sometimes I have trouble deploying in VS, even with <10 apps. Restarting VS and the phone doesn't have any effect.
Not that I'm blaming you or anything - just figured I'd note my experience. Some projects will still deploy, not sure of the pattern yet.
Thanks, that the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I'll add this to the first post to warn people.
If you have more infos, please share so we can have something more stable.
Thanks!

Ah this is the tool that some XDA user was trying to pass off as his own tool.

Look up the RRTool in this forum that I wrote, he is basically saying I rebranded the Chevron Tool as my own, even though my Tool runs on the device not from desktop and only prevents relocking, it doesnt actually unlock a device like chevron does. He only has 2 posts and tried to ruin my credability! Not Happy!
He is a lame troll. Don't pay attention. Thank you both guys! Great job!
P.S. Just a small remark: after using your tools (first I've tried (nico)'s tool, later (toady) RRTool. Both works good but behavior of VS 2010 a little bit changed. Now I can't deploy project via Zune - must close it first and use WPConnect.
Did you try to restore the original value (probably 10 for most users) and see what happends?
Nope, I didn't. Just have no time to browse for Samsung's registry editor or reflect back your's or lyriquidperfection app. Could you add an option to restore back an original values? Anyway, it's not a real problem. MS limitation of 10 app (or 3 for student account) it's just stupid and unfair. What, if I have more than 10(3) homebrew projects to debug and run? What, if I want to recreate all apps I need by myself? But of course the "MS greediness sux!" is not a topic for this thread
