Cyanogen mod, cannot get google apps to load - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am loving cyanogen, but I am definitely missing something when I flash google apps. I get to the installation, but when I try to install it always gets interrupted. I try to skip it, but I cannot get back to it later, opening market does not work. How am I supposed to come back to install gapps later?

Re-download the gapps.zip, put it on your SD card, go into cwm > flash gapps.zip > reboot.
It should work. If not, then extract the zip and copy the .apks one-by-one to your SD card, and push them to your system/app. Not sure if that would actually work, but it's possible.

Reflashing doesn't do anything I just tried it again. The only way to get it to try installing again is to wipe data, then I have to sign back in and I get interrupted again. There is a way to cancel it to come back later but when I hit cancel I can't figure out how to come back.

you're making sure to flash the gapps.zip from the cwm recovery, right? it has to be on the root of your sdcard, then boot into recovery and go to "install zip from sdcard" -> "choose zip" -> scroll to gapps.zip

Yep I am doing it that way, just tried again right now and nothing happens on reboot unless I do a factory reset. If I just knew how to come back to it later it would be ok

1. Clear data, dalvik, cache - rinse and repeat 3 times total.
2. Re-odin EH17 stock, found in the dev forum. Let the phone boot to startup.
3. Boot into CWM recovery, flash the GAPPS file.
4. Restart phone - check to see if the flash took.
5. Boot into CWM recovery, clear dalvik, cache 3 times, flash CM7 over EH17 stock...
Let me know if this process works for you.
May or may not work, it would solve the problem temporarily for me but would soon have problems. I shortly moved away from CM7 to Urban Metamorphosis.

OK, thanks I might give that a try, if it was just a temporary fix for you though it will probably only work for a while for me too. Doesn't anyone know how to postpone running it? It says to do so right when the app runs, but no one knows how to do it?

You don't need to flash the GAPPS pack - only if you want to use the market, sync contacts etc. and use voice/maps so on. If you continually cannot get past try ODIN'ing a different modem. EH06 worked much better for me over EH17.

I'm uing eh06 modem. Never went to eh17
Anyways, I downloaded all the gapps from the market one by one. I flashed the zip and they didn't show up so I did it the long way

srf 1.2 issues

I flashed srf 1.2 and genocide kernal 1.1 about two weeks ago and ever since my phone is just been really buggy.
For example: I go to call someone and and it connects for about one second and then ends the call. When this happens it also shuts down all the sounds, like the ringer volume buttons don't beep. The only way to get it back to normal is to shut it down and pull the battery.
I don't know if this is a problem but the 3g symbol has two arrows, sometimes it seems like they are white colored for a really long time like no 3g data is coming or going.
There also has been just a number of little annoying things that happen at random.
I have reflashed once already and it seemed to cure some of the problems but then new ones came up.
What are the possibilites of what is wrong? Rom,Kernal,Both, bad download?
What would you guys do? Should I odin back to normal and then download rom and kernal and reflash?
Can someone give me a link to some known clean files that i need for odin to flash back to eco5. If i do odin back to i need to erase anything before i do? Like themes or stuff like that.
Thank you to anyone that can help.
I would re-download everything to your computer, then transfer to sdcard. Then Odin to stock EC05, then wipe cache, data, dalvik 3 times each, then flash the ROM, then flash the kernel, then any mods you want. Reboot between each flash.

Correction, flash rom and kernel in the same flash, otherwise you'll get stuck on boot without a kernel.
So what files do I need for odin to go back to eco5? Does anyone have a link for the correct files?
I will start with a recommendation once you get up and running to enable journaling seeing that you seem to have some stability issues. Get that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071723
For ec05 stock go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
To get the files also has instructions. If you like visual instructions there is a link in my sig for qbking's videos.

Almost so necessary on 1.2 that it should probably be baked in with the option to flash the zip to turn it off

Ok so I downloaded the journal On and Off files from your first link. They seem pretty straight forward. Once you have your custom rom and kernal installed you use CWM to flash the ON zip file to enable journaling and you do the same thing with the OFF zip file if you want to turn it off. Is that correct?
Now for the stock files in your second link, I am still not sure which ones I need. I read the whole post and I am wanting to go back to complete stock setup. I think I need this file:Ok so I downloaded the journal On and Off files from your first link. They seem pretty straight forward. Are these the two files that I need to return to a stock fresh eco5 setup? I am just wanting to make sure because the files don't say anything about eco5.
Thanks to everyone that is helping me.
Yes, you just flash the journal on zip right after ROM and kernel then reboot. It adds stability. From the look of the link, it will restore you to an early version of stock and you will most likely be prompted for an OTA update to get back to EC05

Trouble Installing T-mobile update on rooted SGS2

Having trouble with today's freshly produced update. I'm on factory ROM, so there shouldn't be any trouble, but everytime i hit restart phone it goes into CM manager, I hit reboot and it just reboots with the update still uninstalled =\
I think you need stock recovery to get the update to install. I may be mistaken though.

how do i go to stock recovery? this update thing pops up every hour, it drives me nuts! (even after i hit 1-day).
Download Bloat Freezer from the market and use it to freeze Device Manager....... The notifications will stop.
Or go back to stock.....

[Q] Can't obtain proper root with IML4K Perfection ICS rom?

As per thread title, I cannot establish proper SU permissions when using this rom. Nowhere in the OP does it state needing to flash the SU.zip on top of the rom, but when I try to anyway, I still don't obtain permissions. Is there something wrong with my phone? I thought the proper permissions were baked into the ICS leaks at this point?
On a side note, I wipe everything manually (Data/Cache/Dalvik), then Super Wipe on top of that, then flash the ROM, fix permissions, reboot, wait 10 minutes, and reboot again. The last time I tried to reflash the ROM, I waited half an hour before playing with it, but nothing still. Any idea of what I could be doing wrong?

Nope, I always flash by installing zip file on internal or external.
Flash back
I had the same problem,
1.Flash back to stock rom
2.open superuser, press menu, go to preferneces, go to su binary
3.once done, backup the stock rom
4.Flash the ics perfection zip from CWM, then reboot.
You should have root access after performing these steps

You need to run superwipe a few times, this has been stated before. Run it 2-3 times then start wiping data/cache/davlik again. Also are you sure its not just one program ? Have you tried another root access program to verify ?
Try the multiple wipes then flash. If you still have problems Put your phone in the dishwasher and report back

[Solved] Flashed cyanogenmod, stuck on boot screen

Hey guys, I'm really new to rooting, flashing roms, and Android in general (I've used iOS since 2007 until a month ago... please have mercy on my soul). I have an AT&T GN2 that I would like to remove the bloatware from, hence why I began investigating rooting, but it's snowballed into my desire to try out some of the amazing ROMs that the developers here have produced. Since the Note 2 uses the Exynos 4, I rooted using the ExynosAbuse exploit and downloaded Titanium Backup to freeze the AT&T apps. So far, so good.
However, I am wanting to get into how to flash custom ROMs, like CyanogenMod, so I downloaded the CWM RomManager and flashed the CWM Recovery. I downloaded the CyanogenMod 10.1 release for the i317 model (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024495) and the latest gApps package (for 4.2.1), and flashed both from CWM RomManager. When it rebooted, it showed the CyanogenMod boot screen, but it appears to be stuck there. I'm not sure what to do at this point, and am hoping I didn't brick my phone. Is there anything I can do at this point?
Use the three button combo to get into recovery, should be volume up, home, and power, and then wipe data or install a stock rooted ROM. That should help get you to a bootable stage.

When I booted into recovery, I got the CWM recovery (which is a good thing, I suppose). I wiped the cache, and then installed the CM 10.1 zip and gApps zip. However, I think I still need to wipe data/factory reset, right?
So, at this point, I've:
1. Rooted the device using Chainfire's ExynosAbuse apk (super easy).
2. Installed RootChecker (success) and TI backup (froze bloatware apps).
3. Downloaded CWM RomManager.
4. Flashed CWM Recovery.
5. Downloaded CM 10.1 port for i317 (the AT&T GN2 model) and the 4.2.1 gApps zips.
6. Chose to install ROM from SD card in RomManager, added both CM 10.1 and gApps, and only selected install (did not wipe cache or user data at this point).
7. Received blue CyanogenMod boot screen... excited... but it remains on the boot screen. Sad face.
8. Removed battery to power the device off, placed battery back in, and then booted into recovery mode (CWM recovery).
9. Installed the CM 10.1 zip and gApps zip from SD, then wiped cache.
10. ???

EDIT: wiped dalvik cache, didn't do anything... apparently, this was a fine release so I'm not sure what could be causing the keyboard issues.

Well, I'm downloading CleanROM right now. I also downloaded another cm 10.1 file just in case, perhaps it's because I downloaded it on the mobile Chrome browser that I'm having problems? I also downloaded a kernel from the thread to help with performance. However, if I can't get these on the phone, it doesn't matter. Since I'm on a Mac, I have to use Android File Transfer, and it isn't registering my phone, unfortunately. I may have to go out and buy a cheap SD card and throw the files on there. It may not hurt to have one around, anyways.

No... I thought that a backup of the original ROM was made when flashing CWM recovery, but I am a noob and that did not happen. Unfortunately, the browser doesn't even work! So I cannot text myself the link for the download. I should be able to flash a zip file from a micro sdhc, right?
Flash the right GAPPS, the crashing keyboard is a symptom of incorrect GAPPS. The December one is for 4.2.1 only, which is what CM10.1 is based on. Make sure you flash the right GAPPS with the right CM version.

Oh... crap. Is there any way I can get the correct gApps on my phone? Ugh... I'm going to have access to a Windows machine today, so I can download the correct GAPPS and put them on my flash drive. I can still put it in USB debugging mode, but will the PC recognize it? Android File Transfer software for Mac does not recognize the phone any more, so I'm a bit limited in what I can do. Unless, like I said before, I can just pop in an SD card with the correct file.
Just grab goo manager from the market and dl the correct gapps to your phone. Either that or use your phones browser. No need for a pc. Boot in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and flash correct gapps. Should be gtg.
Edit: just saw your browser isn't working. Goo manager's your best bet. Could always try another browser from the market as well. Good luck.

Aroma only installs selected apks not system files

When I try to install Hyperdrive rom latest release 15 I select all i want in the aroma but then it starts to install only the apps i chose. It is not installing any of the mandatory system files which makes sense why it installs in like 10 seconds.. I wipe everything sys, delvik cache, cache, data.. using TWRP 2.7.0.1
please help me
This is also happening when I try to install Wicked Rom so ANY suggestions would be awesome. I'm probably going to return to stock and then flash new rom
after reinstalling stock firmware through odin and then trying to install a custom rom same thing is still happening so im guessing i should try and go to stock and than completely wipe everything and then try from there?
I'd install a ROM that doesn't have an aroma installer. Then install the one you want with aroma.

Is there more i could wipe like a partition that is still bad maybe?
I'm going to go to stock again but this time with odin 3.07 not what i was using which was a much older odin and im going to then install a custom recovery and root and please do tell me your favorite recovery im probably gonna try oudhs cwm and then ill see if i run into problems installing roms.
The main problem is the rom likes to install all its apk options for example adobe reader or samsung music app but it will NOT install any mandatory system files which make the phone work.
after i get stock i also wipe data factory reset in stock recovery which delete everything which is fine i knew it would.
This time i'll also be resetting the flash counter which i havent done

for now im going to run stock and restore my stuff but hopefully i can get to the bottom of this
I can't think of where the source of the problem is.
I find it interesting how while an app installs i see it installing like system/app/blahblah.apk and that is like the first thing it starts to install
i think if i can remember a rom usually does system/framwork or something along those lines first
I have also MD5 checked all my files and they are all perfectly matching
Any Ideas?
I have this idea to try and erase every file on my device and then flash a room is that even possible
Could someone download root file explorer and go to their "/" and just snap a pic of the folders i want to compare your folders properties for example one of mine say rwxr-xr-x
Or i have another idea.
Is it possible to reformat my system partition with odin maybe with a PIT file??
Think, why would a rom skip installation of system files? It looks like it blazes through the installation after installing a few system apps
