[APPS] AI like iOS's Siri. Recommend one and rate in here. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I've tried Iris and Speaktoit Assistant. They need work but its a good start.
I want to add that voice recognition and AI are two completely different things. I'm referring to AI specific type apps.

I tried it and it seemed like it was just using canned responses and wasn't actually doing anything. Just seems like a scam to me.

What's the best AI app?

Iris is a good start but keep in mind its alpha so still has a lot of work needed.

Just different voices is all. Samsung (I think) sounds better.
Now onto a recommendation -
We Android users knew that the Apple people were going to show off Siri for a while, what the iPhone people may not know is how utterly useless all those voice recognition/AI apps are. Android has had these things for so long and they are only a novelty. Show off to your friends, use once or twice, move on and start typing everything you need.
No need to find better because it is going to just be a waste. Laugh at what the iPhone users show you, tell them it's cute, and then ask them to come back in two weeks and let you know how often they have actually used it.
Open Siri, hit microphone, "Do I need an umbrella in NY?" - How stupid is that?
Hold my search button, "Weather NY." - Easier and makes more sense.
Neither matters.

Please don't say it's AI. It's far from AI. It's voice recognition and control that's deeply integrated within a limited operating system. To say it's intelligent is not fully understanding the definition of intelligence.

Unless that thing is able to think on it's own, it is really not that intelligent.
I loaded up some of the Android apps to play with and then said to myself, when the heck will I ever use this. When I am sitting in my bedroom home alone so no one see's me having a conversation with my phone. I obviously removed all of them and kept my reliable Google Voice Search.
Google Voice Search on Android does everything I need it to minus having an actual dumb conversation with my phone. It gets me any information that I need and ask of it. Isn't that the main point of a program like this?

Why do people have to come in a thread and complain? If it doesn't interest you why even enter.
Obviously you guys haven't played with a 4S and understand that its not voice recognition.

Neither is Google voice search. Maybe we are interested in knowing what it is you like so much about Siri that you can't already do on Android. Do you enjoy asking your phone what are they wearing to bed tonight?
Is there even a name for people who enjoy talking dirty to their cell phone and get off on it?

Siri Alternative

Now before I risk geting slammed for asking this... I have never used Siri or anything like it but keep seeing it advertised everywhere. Now coming from an iPhone 4 without Siri to Android, which I must say feels like a good move. I was wondering if there is something similar/the same/or better than Siri?
I'm sure there must be something... I am just fed up of my iPhone mates saying well you don't have Siri which is something that is brilliant. Now I don't know if it is brilliant but it would be good to say "Hmmm actually Android does have... which is... etc..."
Thanks
You can check Iris in Google play, still in alpha stage but some users said it's already usable. Haven't tried it myself though.

This statement is very true. It's almost like they get brainwashed. It's pathetic even. But here's what u can tell ur friends "no I don't have siri but what I do have is 'voice search'. It's a google app that was developed back in the days of Froyo and it does all the same that siri does so way to go apple for FINALLY catching up to Android!"

WOW theres more options than I thought there would be. Will have to find time to try them all now
Just thought I would share this with you all as I tried 4 alternatives to Siri.
Couple of simple questions:
"Who is Manchester United's Top Scorer?"
The responses:
Iris: I wouldn't worry myself with that & What is your favourite movie.
Evi: Gave me a link to Man Utd Statistics website.
Jeannie: Christiano Ronaldo
"Who won the FA Cup in 2009?"
The Responses:
Iris: I wouldn't worry myself with that,
Evi: Gave me a link to wikipedia website.
Jeannie: Read some random crap that made no sense.
Sooo they were all useless. I decided to try the in-bult Google Search.
"Who is Manchester United's Top Scorer".
The response: First link in the search listed top scorers Bobby Charlton being top.
Next Questions: Who won the FA Cup in 2009.
The Response: Top link showed Chelsea won the match
Now although the Google one does have to open the browser to display the results which isn't as great looking at it being in-built in to the app at least it understood the question and actually provided the correct answers...
I would follow this thread until it becomes beta...

Sprint Releasing Security Update that Cripples SGSIII

I knew it would come! Since im on T-Mobile, it won't effect me right away but:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2590...security_update_bye_bye_universal_search.html
Which takes away a basic core service that's been around before ISO even existed. Remember desktop search from Windows 95?
I COMPLETELY DEPEND on the global search mechanism on the Google widget because i keep everything sorted using keywords. I have over a thousand contacts separated by keywords, linked together with emails and pics (im in the building trade industry).
Google is known for their awesome search capabilities using keywords, how can they strip something like this away.

Dude is a troll plain and simple. His replies betray his genuineness .
meanwhile, trolls aside, I really don't understand how Apple won the injunction with the overwhelming prior art of Google Desktop Search [released Oct 2004] and (I really dislike using this as an example of anything, but it applies) BonziBUDDY [released 1999].
to lesser extents, we have:
ISYS
- prototyped as "Homer" in 1987
- released in 1988
---- was actually a tool to search documents and databases on a private network, searched locally as well
Copernic Search
- released in 1996
---- web multi-search tool, local search functions added well before iPhone (I don't remember when though)
Microsoft Actors/Agents
- released originally as MS Bob in Mar 1995
Windows Desktop Search
- as of v4, included with WinVista, RTM Nov, 2006

Screen record / multi window / screen record rant

All missing. Really? I will donate to whoever fixes that lameness.
/Rant over
edit....sigh...typo
second screen record was supposed to be Google wallet
But....you already donated to Samsung...
All kidding aside, shoehorning this into the OS that I don't believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) has been officially released (kernel and all) yet will be an ugly endeavor.
I applaud the ROM cooks for their hard work, and agree. I've done my share of donations to the Evo3D gurus, and will continue to for the future the Note2 wizards. I really doubt we'll see these features, at least seamlessly as we'd like, prior to Samsung releasing them.
While I can honestly say I'm disappointed for the same reasons, along with the fact that inductive charging on the Sprint models has been made almost impossible. (I've recently learned you may be able to physically mod the phone)
I also must admit, over all, this is the single best smart phone I've had, the only other phone I've been this excited about was the Palm Pre when it was first released (zomg true [email protected]#)
So, /rant signed, added to, and amended with a pat on the back to Samsung for delivering an awesome phone on it's own standing even with flaws. :good:

Screen record will probably need to be a hack as some rumors are going around about a patent in the US vs. Europe.
Why Multi-App view is not working is unknown.
Google Wallet is dependent on Sprint allowing it, from what I hear.
Inductive charging has something to do with the outside case contacts with the internal battery contacts. the hardware my be causing this limitation although there is a rumor of a hardware hack for this going around as well.

I can't believe Google has evolved so much in a relatively short time and taken up such a huge portion of my life! They have always been one of my favorite companies, and now they may be at the top. I've used their search engine as long as I can remember, of course it's my fave. They give me a free minimalist browser that even my ****ty old HP laptop can run. I bought a Google phone and fell in love with Google's mobile OS, that's free too. Then Google thinks, hey, lets automate search.. And they give me Google Now! Baked in is the best damn mobile voice recognition system I've ever used. I cant believe Google was able to pretty much master the art of talking to a phone, I seriously ask my phone several questions a day, and do it around people with confidence that my phone will understand me and speak back relevant information. It does. Throw in all the different "cloud" storage options they have for free: gmail, contacts, voice, g+ instant upload, drive, etc.. I love Google. I'll never have to enter my contact numbers in a phone again. I have to pause, smile and reflect on that for a second. Or how about freaking satellite pictures of the earth wherever you want, or 360 views from the street. All free again.
Google isn't perfect, sometimes they make me throw my hands up wondering wtf they are thinking, he'll sometimes I complain about it to other XDA members thinking the same things. I know Google makes good money off us (and businesses) through its services.. But from the consumers standpoint, Google offers an almost infinite plethora of options for FREE DOLLARS. And since Google is moving towards all those services being much more tightly integrated, I can't wait to see what they have in store for the future!
