Okay, so I am coming from an HTC phone where you would flash this (*.img) in Hboot. As this is my first Samsung phone, how do I flash this recovery?
Thanks, in advance.
Same issue here. How do we go about flashing this onto the phone? - Im assuming this is done through ODIN (Using the "Flash" Boot Option) - or am I wrong? Also, the new Recovery is not showing up in CWM APP.

I returned my phone to stock and re-rooted. Once my phone rebooted i download ROM Manager and flashed CWM for the Epic Touch.
I then downloaded Quickboot to boot into recovery but it won't through the app or manually. What am i missing?
I have an SD card installed in the phone. Thanks.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Do you HAVE a recovery? If nothing is working, I sure hope you have ADB because that's all I can think of.
connect your phone to your PC
open the command prompt (anywhere is fine, you're not moving files)
run [adb devices]
check for your device. (make sure your phone has "USB Debugging" checked)
run [adb reboot recovery]
That WILL reboot the phone into recovery. If it doesn't, then my only guess will be to flash a recovery into your phone. You can actually try doing that now before ADB, if you want.

If all you want is Root then yes superoneclick, but if you want recovery, so you can Flash Custom ROMs it needs to be Flashed thru ODIN.

Use the Odin method. I also came from the mt4g, in comparison, this is WAY easier to root. Welcome to the sgs2!
sent from the white unicorn.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103
here you go,
make sure you have the drivers downloaded.
Remembering you from the MT4g way back when.... i would just install CWM and then flash a ROM which will give you root.
so...
1.install drivers..
2.DOWNLOAD MODE: Hold +/- and plug in the phone (let it install whatever is necessary)
3.run ODIN
4.put in the recovery tar in PDA
5.Click START
this should be fairly quick flash like a couple seconds, minutes top,.. there should be a quick green progress bar
troubleshooting:
there are times when nothing happens when you click start.. it says initializing and stuff.. don't worry! restart the process but try a different USB port... you can leave it in ODIN/DOWNLOAD mode and try different ports but you should restart the odin APP
now you need to disconnect from the computer to get into CWM recovery
to get into CWM hold +/- and power
NOTE: +/- Power also gets into download mode when you're connected to a computer
so its a universal sequence but depending if you're connected or not.
good luck
Coming from the G2x much simpler.

im guessing you ignored everything i said lol.
i guess you're gonna stick with stock since you're trying to flash superuser?
always wipe both caches when trying to install a zip.
every ROM comes rooted, so yeah. once you install CWM just flash a ROM and you're good... you can flash the stock deodexed ROM too if you want to stay stock.

I rooted my phone by odin method . Flashing clockwork mod recovery over stock recovery . And somehow I was able to install Superuser.
But now when I try to reboot in recovery it takes me to stock recovery mode not custom recovery.
I tried both recovery and they work for a while and after some time they dont.
Why is this happening ?
Su is working fine and I m on UVLH2 .
Thanks in advance

Thats weird...so you can reboot into custom recovery a few times and eventually it goes back to stock? Or can you only boot custom once then it reverts?
First, look for these files and if there, delete or rename them.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Then reinstall recovery and see if it works now.
If theyre not there, good!....well maybe!
Have you tried any other method of installing recovery?
Try using my favorite tool, Mobile Odin.
Free lite version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
(Dont forget to download the flash kernel further down the page)
Or buy full version on play store.
Download twrp here:
http://d-h.st/pNQ
Rename to recovery.img
Open Mobile Odin and tap Recovery and select that file.
Do not wipe.
Tap and confirm Flash Firmware.
Let me know how that goes.

Now that we have the latest official release for the new TouchWiz GB27 4.1.2, I figured I would update this thread for those that have downloaded the update from FL24 to GB27 via Kies.
This guide was written for Sprint devices however the procedure is the same for Boost and Virgin variants of the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. The only difference is the kernel you flash after rooting.
You WILL need to use a PC in order to gain root access
DISCLAIMER
DO NOT USE AGAT RECOVERY TO FLASH ANY AOSP ROM. THERE HAVE BEEN CASES OF HARD BRICKS.
I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR DEVICE. THESE METHODS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE PROVEN TO WORK. FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS MAY GIVE YOU UNEXPECTED RESULTS.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
How to root with SuperSU
You will need...
Odin3_v3.04
Source built Jelly Bean kernel
SuperSU-v0.97
Stock GB27 kernel zip - optional
SuperSU from the Play Store
1. Using a Windows XP or greater based computer, download and extract Odin to a directory which you are comfortable using. You can extract to your desktop if you want. I personally use my documents folder.
2. Power off then press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode, plug in your USB cable after opening Odin. Click on PDA to select and flash the source built kernel.
3. Download this file and reboot to recovery by pressing and holding volume up and power then flash SuperSU-v0.97.zip
4. After flashing the SuperSU zip, flash the GB27 stock kernel and reboot. This is now optional, the source built kernel works perfectly and can be used as a DD.
5. Download SuperSU from the Play Store.
6. Open the SuperSU app and update the binary.
This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

2. Using a Windows XP or greater computer, open the One-Click package.

You now have root access. Congratulations.

Hello, so today i was getting a play market error so i decided to flash another recovery, as mine is the earliest versions of TWRP, so i went ahead and flashed it with Odin. It was successful, but wouldn't boot into recovery. So i went ahead and tried to flash another recovery and now it says NAND write fail. Is it bricked ?
It still boots to 4.2.2 AOSP, but i have no root so can't flash recovery.
I AM OFFICIALLY SCREWED !
After getting out of download mode, it wouldnt boot anymore. Firmware upgrade issue. !
I would say buy a usb jig from eBay. Much faster and cheaper than anything else. It forces the phone to go to download mode and from then you can go to Odin and flash stock.

if you can get into d/l mode, you have it whipped.
Here's the TWRP 2.5.0.2 file:
https://hotfile.com/dl/230303459/7ce1553/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-jfltexx.tar.html
Install with ODIN.
Steps to follow........
Method #1 -
Place file in PDA box*
Uncheck all other boxes.
Press start.
When installation is complete, unplug usb cord and pull the battery.
Insert the battery but Don't turn on the phone.
Place phone in Recovery mode via the Power + Volume up buttons.
Method #2 -
The other way I've read to install TWRP Recovery is:
Place the TWRP 2.5.0.2 tar in the PDA box*
Check the auto reboot box and f time reset box.
Start the installation and let the phone reboot.
I believe Method #2 is the method of choice, but sometimes the Recovery doesn't take, so Method #1is recommended.
Here is an explanation why:
