Restoring a rooted Desire with custom ROM to complete stock? - Desire General

Hi folks,
This might be a silly question, but I'm selling my HTC Desire and I need to restore it to a completely stock setup. It's rooted and running a vanilla Gingerbread ROM with a different radio.
I had a NANDroid backup of my stock setup earlier, but it was taken almost 1.5 years ago and it's gone now unfortunately. Should I just flash one of the firmwares in this thread or is there a better way? Will that restore the stock radio and RIL as well?
Cheers
Update: Flashing one of those RUUs was indeed the solution, nothing else had to be done. It was only a matter of picking the correct RUU. Feel free to delete the thread.

I just tried flashing one of the European RUUs and it said I had an incorrect bootloader. Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind.. U solved..

Enjoy!
I'm interested in trying other ROMs but I would like to be able to return to my current stock ROM if it doesn't work out. Currently I'm running a Bell ROM, but the version is more recent than this one.
Specificially, I'm running 1.34.666.5 with Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M.
Right now, both the firmware and the radio versions are newer than anything on the xda site. Would it be possible for you to obtain a newer RRU? I have checked both the Bell and HTC sites and couldn't find a download link for any RRU.
If it isn't possible, can I expect my phone to update to the current versions OTA if I give it this ROM?
Is it possible for extract the current radio ROM from my phone itself?
I apologize in advance if I'm asking these questions in the wrong place

if you permroot/s-off your phone. you can do a full backup using clockworkmod recovery. however, you do NOT want to flash official ruu's and such, if one is older then the one your on or from another brand, this will happen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
if you want to try this rom, it will have to be A.made into an update.zip rom w/hboot, radio, and recovery all REMOVED, or B. take just the system.img out of it and flash JUST the system.img in fastboot in bootloader (not the fast boot in sense). "fastboot flash system system.img"...you will then need to re-permroot, but skip all the s-off/hboot stuff, you will still be s-off.

Yeah, I need the Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M Extracted from your ROM too. Because I flashed the WWE ROM and I'm having signal issues, compared to my brother who is using that current Bell ROM. If I have to run the Bell ROM to fix this, I'd do that too, but I can't find 1.34.666.5 only the 1.34.666.1 that's listed in this post.
*EDIT*
So... I flashed this posted RUU "[RUU] RUU_Vision_BellMobility_WWE_1.34.666.1_Radio_12.28 b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2".
But found the kernel is different, so I couldn't S-OFF to get recovery back on. So... I had my brother S-OFF his phone and make a
Nandroid of his phone running 1.34.666.5. I then proceeded to flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed" back onto my phone, and then rooted, S-OFF, flashed clockwork" and then recovered using my brothers Nandroid backup. So if you flashed this, the steps are as follows to get back to the original Bell ROM.
1. Flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed"] ROM via multiupload.com /67NZB9NER1
2. Root
3. S-OFF
4. Install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager
5. Reboot into Clockwork
6. Recover using Bell HTC Desire/Vision 1.34.666.5 Nandroid Backup via my upload here multiupload.com /6SETLDCPJE
Hope that helps some people who are stuck!
PS To Flash the WWE ROM you might need a Gold Card, I used one.
I'd like a tutorial on how to extract just the radio from the WWE roms. If we could get them as .zip's, loading them with recovery would be very beneficial. I know that if you install a WWE update through HBOOT, you will lose your root and it will return your phone to s-off. Its a bit of a pain of having to go through the rerooting process every time.

I just wanted the radio to flash over my current ROM to see if there was any difference in network reception for us in the uk. But I got a new sim now which seems to be a lot better.

Ok, so now that I've unlocked my device using the new gfree method, and have true radio S-OFF and SuperCID, I believe that I could now flash any provider image and return to my backup or a stock provider image at any time. I'm right, er, right?

I am not 100% sure on this myself, but I think it should be ok now. Before the problem was that you could flash an older ROM, and it would first off flash the stock HBOOT over the previous eng HBOOT that was giving you S-OFF. So this would immediately put you back to S-ON. However, now with radio S-OFF you will stay at S-OFF in the flashing process, because the change is made in the radio configuration partition, which won't be touched by the flash.

can anybody tell me what the stock radio is on the bell 1.34.666.5 rom is?
is it: 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2

Revert to stock question

Hi all,
Need to revert my phone back to stock 2.1, do you just download the stock rom and flash??
What's the difference between then signed and unsigned versions?
I don't have a goldcard, never made one, is that a problem. I am currently running clockwork mod with oxygen. I have not s-off'd the phone.
Any info would be great as I have to return it to three to cancel my contract.
Cheers

Radio 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Hboot 0.83.0001
Rom Stock 2.1 Update 1
I cant find this rom to flash back to stock, can only find the two H3G roms on the sticky.
Anyone got any ideas on this, need some help fast please.

did you keep the backup from when you first rooted your phone?
I did, but the sd card failed and I lost everything. Can I flash either of the stock roms or will one of them, or both, kill the phone?
If you are on 3 UK then you could use the newest 3 ROM from shipped-roms.com
Thats it? No need to use a goldcard (the one I dont have) just run the exe and it'll flash the rom, radio and be back to stock again?

Problems flashing radio on rooted HOX

Hi.
I'm almost certain someone else must have experienced the same problems I've had but I can't find anything already posted so if I have duplicated someone's thread I apologise.
I rooted my phone using the usual process I found on here.
Downloaded my OTA as supplied by my carrier, 3UK and it failed in CWM recovery, no matter which toggle or option was selected.
I found a thread that instructed me to restore the stock recovery and relock the Bootloader. Tried the OTA again. Still no joy.
I then flashed the original RUU which worked and then the OTA worked perfectly.
For some reason or other, it must have been important but I can't remember what, I had to restore my nandroid backup taken before I started to apply the 1.28OTA (so stock 1.26 ROM, rooted, CWM), which had reverted me back to 1.26. However, trying to then reflash the original stock RUU failed. Strange, as the exact same RUU worked flawlessly less than an hour earlier.
The only difference I noticed was the HBOOT remained at the 0.93 that it had changed to following the OTA update, although the radio version had reverted to the original 1.12.
Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and flash the excellent ARHD ROM, which is working fantastically.
How the hell do I update the radio to the latest version? I had hoped that the ARHD ROM would contain the new radio within the flash, but it looks as if no ROM flashes the radio on this phone.
Thanks.

Until we have S-Off there is no way to flash a new radio.
Ok, I accept that, but what I don't understand is that I'm pretty sure on my old Desire I could flash different radios without being S-OFF.

An older bootloader system was in use with the Desire, HTC have changed it a lot since then
I couldn't flash radios or hboots on desire until s-off. The ruu should still work though. Maybe wrong or older version.

Is the RUU necessary when just flashing custom ROMs?

Hi there,
I completely understand how flashing custom ROMs works and the like, however I'm not too familiar with HTC devices so I'm not entirely sure how important RUUs are.
My girlfriend owns an unlocked One X (CID: HTC_102, 1.29.401.11 (WWE)). If I were to flash Android Revolution HD 8.1, it would technically be following the X.XX.401.XX update tree, right? If we were to keep her One X updated along with ARHD, would we need to worry about flashing RUUs? I think most people use the RUUs to update things like their baseband version, kernel and boot image - but if the custom ROM is taking care of things like the kernel and boot image, couldn't I just flash the updated basebands? I've been trying to Google my answers, but I'm really coming up with nothing.
It's always best to have a ruu handy incase you need to go back to near stock, or something messes up and a ruus the only way of sorting it
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
So basically the RUU is a way of restoring to stock if you, for some reason, do not have a Nandroid backup?
Yes. If you can't get one then proceed at your own risk
For the most part you will never need an ruu.
It returns the device completely to stock.
It differs from custom ROMs because it also flashes the protected partitions like Hboot
It is also the only way to get your phone to load after relocking your boot loader (for warranty purposes)
Better chance of been fixed if you send it back as stock as possible
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Ah, so if I keep the RUU for the current stock ROM I have now on hand (I believe I've found it in the Endeavor Shipped ROM Collection thread) for a 'just in case' situation, I should be all good? Sure is handy that the CID matches the WWE RUUs, they're easy to find.
Thanks for your help, guys.

[Q] Backup before Rooting

Hi
I have an unbranded (unlocked) HTC One X (Bought in UK). I recently received 4.1.1 update but I have decided that I want to root my phone. I have never rooted any phone before so I am pretty much new to the whole process.
I would really like to back up my phone as it is. I am not sure if it is possible to create a ROM of the current state of the phone and restore it if I want to. This is because my phone is still under warranty and if it goes faulty I would like to send it back to HTC in its original state.
I can backup my contacts, messages, apps etc. separately. It is the actual original HTC software I am more worried about.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Anyone please?
I have been browsing through the forum and I have seen few people ask very similar questions but no one seem to have figured it out yet. I have also seen many topics where people are struggling to recover back to stock ROM because they did not make any proper backups.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Check htcruu.com, the UK ROM is widely available.

I have official HTC 3.14.401.27 installed on my phone right now. I have never rooted it or anything. That is why I am asking if there is a way for me to save that as a ROM or save that ruu before I root my phone.
Make sure you make a nandroid backup of your stock rom after unlocking bootloader and installing clockworkmod recovery, and keep that backup in a safe place.

Yup I have been reading that.
But it says that:
These instructions require that you have one of the ICS hboot versions in order to work (1.12.0000 or lower). If you have one of the new JB hboots 1.28, 1.31 or 1.33 there is currently no way to return to stock until a JB ruu is released for your device.
After checking my phone, it seems like I have 1.33. It seems like there is no way for my phone to get back to stock at the minute. That is why I was asking if there is anything else I can do to make it possible before I actually root my phone.
