[Q]Can't seem to flash CM7 to my Play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, sorry for asking, new to the custom ROM scene.
So I have been using the Play for awhile now, so I decided to try something new and try out the CM7 released by FreeXperia team.
I unlocked my bootloader without any problems, then I continued with using fastboot to boot the .img file from the FreeXperia CM7 thread, but I just gave me a battery icon on my Play's screen.
(I have the .zip files in my SD card)
After rebooting it I found out it has the Team FreeXperia logo during boot up and the kernel has changed to "[email protected] #6", but everything remained the same. Many things like Alarm, Wi-Fi and music application wouldn't work.
Do I have to do something in the recovery provided FreeXperia?
Any kind souls can help?

dude.. try this method http://www.xperiagamer.com/Beginners-Guides/loading-custom-roms.html...and may i know what firmware did u use? and did u root?

So... You flashed the ROM too, yes? And wiped cache/user data?

[Help] Custom ROM

I updated my Arc S with the official ICS update from sony however the lag and other issues were driving me mad so i decided to root my phone.
The next obvious step seemed to be installing a custom ROM so i installed clockwork mod and made a back up, everything great so far.
I made a back-up and wiped my phone, went to install the free xperia CM9 ROM and thats when everything went pear shaped.
The ROM didn't install, i wiped my phone again but got the same distressing fail.
Thinking there was possibly a fault with the zip i re-downloaded the ROM and found an alternative (one of the arcronium ones i think) and put those on my SD, all seemed to be well and good, i had a backup and Clockwork Mod what could possibly go wrong?
Well when i tried to boot my phone in recovery all i get is a boot loop! :crying:
The only thing i could do was to use flashtools and flash a ROM to my beloved Arc S
I tried this exact process a few times but suffered the same fate, please can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? or could i apply a custom ROM using flashtools?
Where I'm currently at:
Model number: LT18i
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-70
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Build Number: 4.1.A.0.562
Where I would like to be in an ideal world:
Fully working Arc S running Cynogen Mod 9 :victory:
Any help achieving this would be greatly appreciated!

FXP ROM function best on FXP Kernels... Try flashing one of their Kernels and reinstalling the ROM.
Bootloader open?
And for CM u need a fxp kernel, but u cant use it with arconium, there u need trinity or arc-knight kernel
Make sure to do a "Wipe data / factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition" when going from stock or from another custom ROM
I have no idea if my bootloader is open or not, how do i tell?
I found this link to the FXP CM 9.0 but i have no idea what anything is.

I'm guesing "CM9.0 RC1 FXP127" is a kernel? and if so how do i flash it and what do i do next?
Thanks for the replies, I'll be getting my Arc fixed in no time

No, it's a ROM. You need to read things carefully before just going and flashing this or flashing that. Flash a stock ROM with the Flashtool and start over.

Dude, First thing you gotta do is unlock your boot loader. Google around you will find it. To unlock the boot loader as well as to flash a custom kernel you need something called fastboot. There is a video in youtube on how to use fastboot and flash custom kernel and that user has provided the download link as well go and search. After unlocking boot loader install CWM (either with auto installer or by flashing a custom kernel with CWM) After doing that flash the FXP127 zip booting in to CWM. The FXP127 zip contains the FXP kernel as well so don't worry when you flash that the kernel gets changed as well. Still can't figure it out. I suggest you keep away from flashing roms Just kidding.
I'm on a stock ROM at the moment that i flashed so i'll just follow some instructions and unlock my bootloader first.
Where can i the latest FXP kernel?
Again Cheers guys

You can find CM9 kernel in zip that you just downloaded. Open it an Extract "boot.img" file. That is the kernel. Flash that first, go to recovery, wipe all data, wipe dalviks chcae, format /system and then chose "install .zip from SD card" and select FXPCM9.zip (or whatever it is named) and it will install you CM9. Don't forget on Gapps.
excellent i unlocked my bootloader and i've got the kernel and rom i want, just one last thing, whats the baseband and when do i flash it (if i have to flash it at all)?
Unfortunately i forgot i uninstalled the stock sony launcher and when unlocking the bootloader it wiped launcher pro so my phones pretty useless as it stands so the quicker i can get a new rom on the better!
Many thanks again, I'm slowly getting there
All done
Cheers for the help everyone!
baseband controls radio communications like communications with cell towers
I did not flash any baseband and it works

[Q] arc doesn't boot

Dear masters,
After 20 hours of reading and trying new things to me, I thought I finally knew what to do to get a custom ROM on my XPERIA Arc with stock 4.0.2.A.62 firmware. .62 seemed to be a pain in the ass, because this version doesn't want to get rooted. So I unlocked my bootloader and then flashed 4.0.2.A.42 on it. Everything on my phone was working fine.
Now I wanted to get a custom ICS ROM on my phone so I decided to go for Xperia Ice Cream Pureness V13. I downloaded the ROM and the patch for the arc and succesfully installed it with CWM recovery.
I did this by going into fastbootmode, flashed this kernel by doing "fastboot flash boot boot_ARC.img", because I needed a stock kernel, so I thought it would be better to get an advanced stock kernel. Then I did "fastboot boot recoveryARC.img" and my phone booted into CWM recovery. I had no errors whatsoever during the installation of the ROM and the patch. Using this recoveryARC.img file is my only way, because via the ROM manager app, I don't get into recovery.
When I tried to reboot, I just got another boot logo appearing, but just stays there and won't boot. See the image in the attachment.
So now I'm here with a not working phone and my noobyness.
Please help, thanks in advance,
Ruben
You say that you have installed advanced stock kernel.
Is it compatible with your ROM??
Edit...
Readed a little. Any stockbased kernel is suppoused to work.
Try with the latest stock kernel.
He says to let it be for a hour.
If anything wont help, revert to all stock.

Yea, so it's stockbased.
Anyways, I just kept on trying things and also tried a different ROM and now Jellybean Sandwich 7.3 just WORKS.
Still got no idea what caused the stuck booting screen.
To me, all these files, kernel, rom, flash, root, etc, etc complicates the whole thing and it doesn't make sense to me anymore what works with what etc... LOL. Anyways, it works now, thanks for caring

When I go to 'About Phone' now, I see the kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf / [email protected] #1.
Seems like this is the original kernel, so the kernel never flashed? Strange...
Everything works fine...
No longer booting
So i saw this thread and its relevant to me. Figured i would start here.
Using CWM i loaded Iced bean ROM to my phone.. in my excitement i forgot to flash the arcknight kernal.. Now my phone simply boots to Sony Ericcson boot screen. No further..
on top of that i cannot seem to load into fastboot. When i try the steps from this thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087 i cant get my fastboot to work.. no blue LED.
Have i ruined my phone?
I don't know it will work or not,but man, you can try ...
1: Using flash tool, put your Arc into Fastboot mode.
2: reflash boot_ARC.img
3: try some roms such as Ultimate HD 2.0 (recommended) , Jelly SandWich......
i hope it will be useful for you.

My problem is i cant seem to get into fastboot mode. I followed the steps to unlock bootloader but i cant get into fastboot. never get the blue LED.
@OP
The problem is, you 'jumped' from GB to ICS straight away with cwm flash. When changing OS, be sure to flash the new OS ftf first, then flash the kernel, then flash the ROM thru cwm at last. It's good to know though that now your phone is working again.

[SOS] Xperia S wrong kernel

Hello community,
i hope you guys can help me. A few moments ago i decided to flash a new crom over my existing P.A.C. rom on TWRP based kernel. The rom I decided to flash is XZXperience 2.
So I wiped everything and cleaned the SD Card from not necessary files and accidentaly deleted my backups, too. As if that would not be enough I forgot to flash a CWM Based Kernel. Now my phone wont boot up. In recovery I can not mount my device's external storage (dont know why, maybe caused by twrp?)
Anyone of you know what I could do to rescue my Xperia?
Ty
If u don't have PAC ROM or nova kernel 007 or speed kernel in our SD card then only solution z to flash stock ftf through flash tool or fast boot kernel speed or advance ics
Press Thanks

[Q] Noob help with roms?

hi there
before you tell me its in the wrong section i can't post in the development section yet, i'm a new member.
so basically, heres how it is: i have an xperia play r800i(unlocked UK version) which in october i flashed free xperia kernel onto and cyanogenmod 9.1. i have now decided that i want xdark 4.0.3 on it because the wifi stopped working on cyanogenmod and it has no support for touchpads. however, i dont know if it is as simple as just going into CWM and flashing the .zip from there.
can i do that? or do i need to flash something like doomkernel? and can i flash that the same way i flashed FXP?
i am quite a noob when it comes to this, so any help is appreciated.
it is rooted and the bootloader was unlocked the official way.
thanks
Back up everything with Titanium or something similar. Then place the XDark zip file onto the root of the SD card.
Then, with Flashtool:
1) Flash R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_phoenixvendor.ftf found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
2) Flash LuPus ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804003
Once that's done, boot the phone and enter recovery (pressing back when LuPuS flash screen appears and phone vibrates), clear the cache and dalvik cache partitions, then install the XDark ROM. When that's all done, reboot and all should be done.
XDark seems to be suspended for now though, might be better to go for something that's still currently being supported?
thank you for your swift response, i will be doing that later.
Do both a titanium back up and a nandroid just to be safe also do the normal whipes

[q] my xperia play is stuck on bootloader after flashing kernels

Guys i really need help, I'm using an xperia play and i had just unlocked the bootloader and then flashed a the trueancestors ics rom and the LuPuS_zeus_Stock-gB+iCsv7-full kernel. Now it turns out that i didnt like the rom so i put it back to stock, still with the lupus kernel. Everything was working however i wanted to have the doomkernel v14. So i flashed the doomkernel and it was working however the wifi had erroros so i changed back to the lupus kernel. Again everything was working fine now. I then found out how to fix the wifi problem on doomkernelv14 so refrlashed that kernel. Before i reflashed the kernel i deleted the trueancestors isc rom as i didnt like it so i thought it would be ok. After the flash i tried to reboot the device, and it was stuck on the bootloader for doomkernel, not in a bootloop just stuck at doomkernel bootloader. I tried to fix this by going to recovery (clockwork mod) and then did a factory reset, wiped the cache and data and the dalvik cache as i saw these online for instructions on how to fix this problem. Still i had the same problem, stuck at bootloader. So i tried somthing different and reinstalled the trueancestors ics rom, and tried to reboot the xperia play, again stuck at bootloader. Im sorry if this was a bit long but I AM LITTRALLY BEGGING FOR SOME HELP! Please make a suggestion as to how i can fix this ASAP. Can it be fixed?Thank you for you Advice it is very much aprecciated. Ive posted this somewhere else in which i couldnt find but i really need help on this, please can anyone help. :crying:

When switching kernels with different partition layout you have to delete data and system partition in fastboot mode.
I'm lazy to type again so here is a link where it is explained already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849536&page=100
You can prevent future problems by wiping data and system partittion from CWM and THEN flash new kernel that have different partittion layout

I havent tried this yet, becuase i need my dad to allow flash tool to work (Parental controls ffs -.-") however i saw the thread and i saw this part saying enter these commands "fastboot erase userdata and fastboot erase system i undestand how to get the command thing open but how do u enter these in, and what i mean is do you just open the command thing and just paste these in or do u have to right click somthing open comand promt here and all the stuff then enter them? Also these steps u listed, everything is fine its just my lack off knowladge for some of these things which i do apologize for
" Fully working steps, that is 100% working:
1.flash ftf with unlocked vendor partition (.62 or .79)
2.flash lupus gb kernel
3.erase system and data from fastboot
4.enter recovery and flash your rom "
Where do you get the unlocked vender partition, and which one is better .62 or .79 and if u could send me a link as your helping me i think ur choice of links for this is more reliable than mine, and again this is greatly appreciated.
" Fully working steps, that is 100% working:
1.flash ftf with unlocked vendor partition (.62 or .79)
2.flash lupus gb kernel
Download file name R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf from Xperia Play Index - ROM'S, FIRMWARE, KERNEL'S, GUIDE'S, THEMES, MOD'S second post have firmware files
Guide how to use flashtool you can find at [GUIDE][18th Dec][4Noobs] Flashing A FTF File Using Flashtool
Flashing .79 or .62 firmware is necessary if you are planning to use lupus gb or icd/gb kernel - and you only need to do it once.
Flashing kernel is same, but when pressed on lighting icon, choose "fastboot"
3.erase system and data from fastboot
Ok, i made a zip for you. Download it from attachment, unpack to anywhere you like and double-click file named "start". Power off phone, press search and while keeping it pressed, plug in usb. I don't think you need admin rights for that, but:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROM PLACED ON YOUR SD CARD! Just in case, because that program will erase everything from your phone.
You should be able to enter recovery and/or flash your rom/restore your backup.
4.enter recovery and flash your rom "
Also, read some sticky threads, they are there for a reason
Again im really sorry to bother you with this, but what if i dont want to flash the rom, becuase i didnt like it in the first place so i went back to stock, however this method of returning to stock was to flash the R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_(1253-4437).ftf file. Now what it did was return it to stock rom (AFTER i tried the rom i didnt like) and unrooted the phone, i dont know if it returns the phone to stock firmware, and if the method of the system data wipe thing with the command prompt deleted everything, what can i flash? Little more explaination as to why im asking. Before this boot stuck thing hapenned i had used that same ftf file to return it to stock and unrooted. I re-rooted the phone and then flashed the lupus kernel. Everything was fine. I wanted to flash the doomkernel because like a dum nut i wanted to show off that i could overclock to 2ghz ( if i wanted to) as if alrdy stated before and did so. I think you can only flash zip files from your SD card so the ftf file wont be able to be flashed while on the device. So what do i flash? Should i just flash the rom i dont like and try return it to stock, then flash the ftf .79 firmware again after re-rooting the phone, then flash the doomkernelv14. In short i want to stay with the normal gingerbread 2.3.4 with doomkernelv14. Again i havent tried this yet and also sorry for these long rambly posts, i just want to give you as much info as possible in order for you to help me. Thank you so much for your solution btw much appriciated.:good:
And almost forgot i also want it back to rooted but i can do that myself, i just thought i'd specifiy it just incase its worth anything.

Yes, if you wipe data and system then EVERYTHING is deleted. All your apps (data) and even android OS itself (system). You'll have to either flash new rom or restore backup after wiping system
Doomkernel need wifi modules to be installed from CWM recovery to have working wifi
I'll attach it
Im wondering about my battery life, because it seems to be draining faster. Im using no frills cpu with the lupus kernel alowing me to overclock to 1.6 ghz. I set my higest on 1613 mhz and lowest on 249mhz using the smartassv2 governer. any idea to whats going on ?
ok...i screw up my xperia play... dunno what to do.
hi guys, been a noob after i fed up with my xperia x8 now i having a xperia play f or 2 years and try to install a custom kernel and roms but i end up brick my phone. it just stuck at logo "xperia free play". it still can enter cwm recovery mode but when i use the method press the arrow thing then plug in the usb cable to pc , it seems my pc did detect my phone but cant show up my memory card in 'my computer' window. The i try to use fastboot & flashtool both can detect my phone after plug in. Here is what i do before brick:
first thing i did on my phone was to upgrade the stock kernel 4.0.2.a.0.42, then i unlock the bootloader, root it, and start download the custom rom without download the requirement kernel. after that, i install CWM using fast boot, put the custom rom to sd card, wipe user data, bla bla bla, then install the custom rom, the next thing i see is the problem i talking about earlier. So i try to using the service update from SCE but it just say im using a modified kernel hence i unable recover it using that method. so, i try to use flash tool x10 (i cant get any working download it keep saying error 404 link, this is the best i have now) when i press the flash it come out red words with error usb ...the thing is my phone cant get detected by my computer.... What to do or it is over? (p/s : i download the flash tool & adb package winrar file & the custom rom i mention is close 2 perfection)
I know is a bit long but I really need help on my phone, i still have a x8 here from my mom and mine is xperia play brick for 3 days now i still cant find a way to solve it. PLEASE HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP. THANK YOU FOR THOSE RESPONSE~!

Glad to helpfull
Remember, kernel must much rom. Gb stock kernel for gb sony based rom, you'll get stuck agan in kernel logo if if you flash kernel that don't match rom/firmware
Just read in kernel thread for info on wich roms it works

Man i was doing so well before, but im now stuck in a bootloop. I cant enter the recovery menu as the phone just keeps bootlooping. Also with lupus kernel the menu doesnt come up. I just erased the user data and system with ur zip from before and flashed aurora play with lupus v12.5 kernel It worked like everything else. i got more curious so i did the same thing erased user and system data then flashed gin2jellybean with the same kernel.( i followed ur intructions from before on how to flash roms n stuff) Everything worked again. I wanted a new kernel so i flashed extreme kernel r3. phone got stuck in a bootloop. So i erased user data and system data, then flashed and ftf stock rom and then flashed extreme kernel r3. everything was working. I went into titanium backup and uninstalled some system apps and accidently deleted the one that let you see the running services to see available ram. So i cleared data and and system data reflashed ftf stock rom in flashmode ofc, and extreme kernel in fastboot. I got a bootloop, so i tried all the different kernels that i could and i cant get into the menu for recovery. Can you please help me once again, i'll thank every post.

For most part, you are doing it right, but, to solve problem with recovery, you should use "eraser" AFTER you change kernel

Naturaly, it will drain more battery BECAUSE it's overclocked.

I think you should repeat the fastboot process once again, so:
fastboot erase userdata
and fastboot erase system
then just flash the kernel you prefer.
I had exactly the same problem with my play bootlooping after flashing some kernels. and this solved the problem for me :victory:
sorry for my bad English, :crying:
