Whenever I turn my phone on while it's being charged or plugged into my computer the phone goes right into download mode and the only way to get it out of download mode is by pulling out the battery. I was wondering if this was happening to eveyone else or is it my phone? any suggestions on how to make it stop?

i'm just trying to make sure that something isn't wrong with my phone. for example i can have my phone plugged in, then when i turn it off it goes directly into download mode. in order to get it out of download mode i have to take out the battery. then while its off i plug it in to charge and then it goes into download mode once again. so basically i cannot charge my phone while it's off because it will go into download mode. i don't like leaving my phone on overnight and i usually charge it while i sleep. i've never had this kind of problem with any of my other phones before.

Same issue here, and yes I am rooted. Did not realize it, but it does appear to be going into download mode when plugged in. I thought it was doing it only when coming out of Rom Manager when trying to boot into recovery. Now that you mention it, I have had plugged in on virtually all instances running Rom Manager. Will try to install EB 1.0 from Rom Manager this time while unplugged.
This happens to me everytime with a micro-usb B cable, but does not occur with a micro-usb AB cable.

How do you know if you have a B verses AB cable. Sometime I will use my LG G2x USB cable, which appears to be a B cable and it just happened. Is the Samsung cable that comes with the phone an AB cable?

Well this actually the same way I deduced it.
My g2x cables say "B" on them, and always cause the GSII to go into download mode. So I assume the Samsung cable is an AB cable. The g2x cable also does not work for USB storage mode on my SII.

I am currently on CM7 MTD and I cannot get into download mode to odin back to stock. If I pull out the battery and put it back in the phone just turns on normally even if I am holding down "1" on the physical keyboard while I put the battery back in. I'm not sure what other ways I can get into download mode so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Need to hold the power button and the 1 on the hardware keyboard is that not working?
Sent From My Thugnificent SPH-D700 because its more than Magnificent
No, that's the problem I am having. I turn the phone off (either by going to power off while it's on or by pulling the battery out) and then if I try to hold 1 + power button nothing happens. If I put in the battery it automatically starts booting up as well, it doesn't just stay off like it should.
That's odd :what: you might have to order a download mode jig this will jump you into download mode
Actually its to bad your on mtd cuz acs recovery has the option to boot into download mode.
Sent From My Thugnificent SPH-D700 because its more than Magnificent
Yeah, I've never experienced anything like this so far and I read about the download mode jig method but I was just curious if there were anything I could try before I do that. Unfortunately it's not looking that way.

Try this plug in the phone into the pc with the battery out and try going into download mode with the computer as the power source
Sent From My Thugnificent SPH-D700 because its more than Magnificent
That works somewhat. I think I need to try a different USB cable though because if the cable moves a little the phone just turns back off as if it's not a very good connection. Also, when it says download mode and Odin is open it doesn't act as if anything is connected still.
EDIT: Okay, so I put in the battery and tried to boot into download mode and it worked properly! Still having an issue with Odin detecting my phone but that's more than likely a cable issue and I can easily find another one and try again. Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, I picked up a couple from Amazon for $1 each and I was actually just trying to use one. I think it may be an issue with my drivers now. Eh, always one problem after another when I'm in a hurry to fix things
I may have bricked my phone, and now won't power up at all. Here's what happened.
Last night I tried to unroot my phone in order to install EL30. First I powered phone into download mode. Then used Odin to install EC05, but Odin seemed to be taking forever, as the instructions said it would take 7-8 minutes... It appeared to be working but very slowly. So after half an hour, I decided to let it work overnight and went to bed, leaving the Odin screen running on computer and the phone with yellow "Downloading" on screen.
This morning, the Odin screen had several more lines of successful completed steps, but did not say "Finished" yet. The phone screen was off. I thought maybe the battery had died because perhaps in download mode maybe the battery wasn't charging? So I unplugged it from USB cord, put in a fully charged battery, and now to my problem...
Phone won't power up or do ANYTHING. I know of 3 methods to power up phone, (pwr button, #1 + pwr, volume up + camera + pwr) and none of them are doing anything. screen never changes from black. I've removed battery, tried powering up while plugged into usb/computer, with & without sd card, etc. It's like the phone is just broke!
HELP?!
Hold down the little pin next to the camera. Also wait for awhile and eventually itll go into download mode. Make sure you keep the battery out when trying to go into download mode.

DUDE THERES NO BUTTON [email protected]!?!$#%^?
To the OP:
Did you try leaving the battery out and having plugged into the back of the desktop *if of course its a desktop* and tried to go into download mode using the pc as its power source? Is it a nonstock cable that you used?. Its more than likely because you didn't have a non-stock cable or yours was bad and need a new one. Odin shouldn't take but 5 minutes top..... mine does it around 3:30 minutes..if it seems like its hangs then redo it pull the plug and start over. Usually factoryfs.rfs takes the longest around 2minutes.

First get a better cable, that's why the data wouldn't transfer. 2nd take out the battery and sd card, with Odin up on the computer connect the New USB cable and quickly put it into download mode and Odin away. At this point include the PIT and check repartition. You will need to put the battery back in after it succeeds and tries to boot. For mor tips sea+ch the Development forum for "How to recover a semi-bricked epic" there is a whole thread on it.

No luck on any of the suggestions above. Phone will not power up at all.
I removed battery and SD card, and plugged into usb cable with Odin open on computer and tried powering up phone into Download Mode (#1 + pwr), nothing (also tried holding #1 + pwr for a couple minutes patiently).
I have had a nightmare trying to find a usb cable and usb port on my computer that work together. No this is not the stock Samsung cable. I am using a cable that has worked for me in the past, but often times a cable/port that works one day won't work the next. So you are probably right in that my original issue getting Odin to download to phone last night may have been a cable problem, however my current problem is simply that the phone seems to be nothing more than a paper weight right now. Just won't power up at all.
And no, I didn't have repartition checked. Phone only had been rooted and CMW, no MTD.
Thank you all for your help, and eagerly awaiting additional suggestions?

My good friend works for a sprint repair center and he said that most times pulling the usb during odin will kill the device. I'm not tring to be pessamistic as I really hope you fix it but from what your saying then its VERY VERY unlikely! Especially if you hit repartition and then pulled the cord... if you don't belive me then try it and let me know how it goes lol

Probably 4 out of 5 of these bricks caused by a failed Odin have come back to life by popping the battery in and out and trying to get into download mode. I can count the number that I have seen never come back on my hands. Some people give up to soon, others found leaving it overnight and trying again has worked. But a lot have been revived. Also he did not have repartition checked so has an even better chance.

hope you get this worked out bud

I bet it can be rescued by pulling battery, keeping it out for a few minutes, putting it back in, holding volume +/- while inserting usb cable connected to computer.
5 min ago, i pulled battery when in download mode... brick....
Just flash ROM again and it works
soo umm i just flashed CWM touch 6.0.1.0 and restarted my phone and for some reason my phone wont turn on... i plug it in the charger and it does nothing at all. also plugged into USB on my computer and the drivers kept popping up to install but keep failing but the phone wont do anything at all.
also tried going into download mode and fastboot mode and nothing
This should have been asked in Q&A, but I'm going to ask the obligatory questions and hope a mod moves this thread to Q&A.
What version phone do you have (maguro(yakju**/takju**), toro, toroplus?
Did you install the correct ClockworkMod recovery for your phone?
Will it not turn on at all?
If it does turn on, does it hang at the Google screen, or do you not even feel the vibration confirming the phone is on?
Was your battery charged before attempting to install the recovery?
Can you get into fastboot mode by holding both volume buttons and the power button?

Yank battery, leave it out for a few minutes...maybe even ten. Plug phone into AC (not USB) wall charger. Let sit like that for two to three minutes. Put battery back in phone while phone is still plugged in. Let sit for an hour or so to get a charge on the battery (in case it dumped). Try powering on.
Just saw you think you flashed N7 recovery....ouch. Time to download Wugs kit and see if you can get it back. I'd still try the steps above for the hell of it.

Try powering on.

tried what you said already left it charging for 20 mins and even left it with out battery and sim card out of the phone and still nothing i am 100% sure this is a hard bricked but did not know if there was a way to fix a hard brick as i never bricked a phone before (hard brick anyways)
Seriously, stop advertising toolkits already, OP don't need it to fix this problem..
OP, search for omap flash.
Pressed from my Maguro
You said when you plug it into your computer it fails to install a driver?
Plug in your phone and go to device manager and see if you see OMAP as a device listed.

I would try following that guide IF your computer still detects your phone as OMAPxxx

Hello
Some days ago, I rooted my Samsung Galaxy s4 mini succesfully and it was all great, untill the SU binary had to be updated. I had a custom recovery so I tapped on the custom recovery option and not normal. I had a little battery. The screen went off. It got back and that was it. It was not to boot ever again. No matter if charged or what. I tried to boot to recovery. I took battery off, held upper volume button+home+power button and got battery in while I was holdin them. I even tried without holding the power button. Nothing. Plugging it in charger won't even turn the screen on.
Is it bricked? PLEASE tell me no. Is there ANY way to fix this? Do not care about reseting or what. Just wanna fix it. In addition, I do not know if its useful but, I had swap space too in my SD card. But is not booting in any way with SD out either.
HELP. Thanks in advance ^^
Oh and if I can't fix it, is there any way I could pull my data from the internal?
Thank you

Can you enter download mode? Home+volume down+power until you see the download screen...
If it's powering on it should be salvagable..

Ok, this may sound strange but try it... in a dark room, try and power the device on. Does the screen blink at all? It may power on and display a black screen so it may be difficult to see in day light. If it does the battery may be fine..
If it doesn't do anything it may indicate a problem is with the power source - your battery..
Also, when you're trying to enter download and recovery you're keeping all buttons held down aren't you? I've made that mistake many times myself so I know how easy it is to forget! (I normally reboot to recovery from the OS using the developer options).
I'm suspecting it's hard-bricked. Then this may be the only help;
- Buy a USB-JIG online
- Make sure that the devices battery has charged (even if it doesn't show charging animation)
- Remove your battery
- Plug the USB-JIG inside your phone
- Wait 3 minutes and put the battery back inside
- Wait 40 seconds and the "download mode" screen should appear

I'm intrigued by the jig mentioned above!
Personally, my next step would be the cheapest phone battery I could find.. that would help you diagnose where the phones at the quickest. If 2 batteries won't turn your phone on then it may be game over... but for the sake of a few £/$ it's surely worth a shout!

If I were you, I wouldn't go for the battery first.
Buy a £5 USB-JIG, it will help you for sure. Keep the phone connected to the mains for 2 hours, even though there's not thing that's showing that's connected. Then remove the battery for 30 seconds, connect it again, and connect the USB-JIG. Bam, you're in download mode ready to flash a firmware with odin.
If the phone didn't boot after connecting the jig, then buy the battery because then you have a positive indication that the battery is the problem for you.

To summarize, it honestly does magics and makes your screen available again.
It has 3 resistors in it. And it somehow boots the phone up.

Just search for a USB-JIG on ebay. All of them are compatible with the s4 mini. It is approximately €5.
