[Q] [CM7.1] Remove Verizon Wireless from lock screen - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Is there a way to remove "Verizon Wireless" from the lock screen in CM7.1 and push the clock higher? I've searched but haven't found anything.

I think using a metamorph theme on the lockscreen would do it. that's how I've got mine set up and I don't have a carrier label on my lockscreen. Not sure if they two are related, but it seems plausible.

And what also you might try is going into your /system/build.prop file via root explorer or equivalent. If you see "Verizon Wireless" as an operator name in that file, try changing the name to { } all spaces. I would do that before deleting the operator name altogether.
Please brick up your phone before you risk backing it.
Wait a minute. Scratch that, reverse it.

take this eri.xml and place it in /data folder, use the hex editor in root explorer to change text to whatever (or just a space for blank) then reboot.

Ok, I got the text removed using the eri file, but the clock is in the same place. Is there anything else I can edit or remove in that file to make the clock be all the up to the top?
Didn't see Verizon Wireless in the build.prop file and have never used meta morph

Anybody know how to break down and rename an app?

Hey guys.. im hoping someone out there could help me out with something...
Im wanting to know how to or if I can even do this.. but I want to rename an apk.. so that no matter where you look it shows up as the name I gave it. Is this possible via adb or anyway else?
Swyped by my Snapped CM6 EVO
What would be the point of this aside from renaming someone else's work?
Nobody knowing the app is installed.... that's the only reason..
Swyped by my Snapped CM6 EVO
Ok, why would you need to hide an app from someone else on YOUR phone? Or are you trying to slip something on to someone else's phone?
?? No, my phone... maybe I should move this to the dev section?

Maybe he dont want his wife seeing his porn apps on his phone....check out "better cut" in the market. You can change the icons and stuff but I dont remember about the name, its been a few years since i used it. Also ADW launcher has an option to hide the apps names on the desktop and drawer. Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Sounds like you need a dumber girlfriend..
Launcher pro has an option of hiding apps from app drawer... Never used it but may work for you.

You can rename an apk before you add it to the zip file for the rom you are using. Like i use CM 6.0, and i put all my install apks in the zip system folder before i flash the rom. I name them program_version, and have never had problems. Again you have to do this before flashing the rom though.
pull it off your phone via adb. change the name while you have it on your computer (may have to resign it). delete it on your phone. put it on your sdcard and install it thru astro or whatever you use

That will change the name of the apk but it will not change the name of the app as it appears on the phone whether in /Settings/Manage Applications, the app drawer, etc. etc.
That said, in order to change the name you would have to decompile the app change the name in the xml file and recompile.
Check out apkmanager. There is a thread on it here on xda. It is a script tool that utilizes Brut.all's apktool to decompile and recompile apks so you can edit them. Once decompiled navigate to /res/values/ and open the strings.xml in your xml editor of choice. Look for "app_name" and the value which follows will be the name as it appears on your phone. Change it to what you want, close the xml, use apkmanager to recompile, sign, and install the app, and you are done.
Bear in mind that anytime I have changed the name of an app my only goal was to change the name as it appeared in the app drawer. For example, the SiriusXM app shows up in the app drawer as "Online." I find that to be completely f*ing stupid so, I changed it to SIriusXM. Therefore, I would recommend looking for other places the app shows up on your phone to make sure they are changed as well.

Notification Pulldown

I would like to edit the text "Verizon Wireless" in the notification pulldown. I know if I do this it will also change on the lock screen.
Does anyone know how to complete this?
If you could post a small how to, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx in advance
I do believe you need cdma workshop which is a $100 program and most pirated versions are riddled with viruses.

It is located in framework and the xml is in the xml folder and its eri.xml
Sent from my sexy assistant. (HTC Incredible)
I went to the eri.xml and opened it in a hex editor but it doesn't have the text "Verizon Wireless" in it anywhere.
No-Go
I know it should be around the words, EriInfo 64, but in my eri.xml there is no Verizon Wireless behind it.

Not as simple as that. There is the guide above
Sorry.

[Q] Possible to change app icon text?

Can't seem to find any info on this that is relevant, just some stuff for much older versions and for WP.
I switched out my stock email app with the XFinity app, as it seems to be more reliable on retrieving email. The only problem I have with it is the icon is too big (touches the top and bottom of the launch bar) and the text is too long/doesn't wrap.
I was able to change the icon to a more standard icon via winrar etc, however I can't find a successful way to fix the text issue. Is this even possible?
Attached a pic, app is in lower right:
Well since you have it in the launcher I think the only way to do this would be to edit an .xml file (no idea which one) inside the .apk. You could always put it on the home screen using Launcher Pro, LP lets you customize the name. Probably not what you want to do, but just throwing it out there
Yeah I'm addicted to GTG though
I found several references to changes to strings.xml to allow wrapping etc and possibly change it entirely (not a lot of info there), but it appears to maybe be for an older version or something as the file isn't located in the apk where everyone says it should be.
Thanks though

Is there a way to display carrier name?

Ok, so my main reason is to change my carrier's name to whatever I want and display it on upper left or right part of our screen like on make it mine for iPhone..
I found this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901865 but it only shown on the lock screen..
There is a way but it requires some know-how. You have to edit the eri.xml in the framework-res.apk.

Not sure if this would help you.. but there is a app on Google Play which displays the operator name/logo.

Font Change

How do I add a font style to the font section in personalize.
Download a font I am HTC themes app.
I figured someone would answer that.
I meant custom font. One the store doesn't have. I want a font I've been using elsewhere that condensed and bold that maximizes visibility and the amount you see on screen. All the stock fonts I. The store are just too big.
I have not done it on this phone, but on previous phones, it was just a matter of copying the fonts over to system/fonts and setting permissions using a file manager with root access. I assume on this one you don't need to rename the new font to replace the system fonts.
I think flip fonts work. If you search for HTC flip font apks or just search for flip font I think it will work.
I'm pretty sure there is a thread for them. If I find it I will add a link.
All of these work. Well, they should. I tested 2 and they showed up.

I'd like to use this font. How do I convert it to work.
Well, copy-pasting to /system/fonts didn't work. There must be some additional file(s) that need to be modified to install them on the M9. I'm going to keep looking and see if I can figure it out.
I think you do need to rename them to take place of the default font, unless you make them a flip font apk. But IDK how to do it. I thought there were instructions in the thread I linked but I couldn't find any. Probably wasn't searching very well though haha

I know how to do it that way, actually, as it's how you had to do it on the M7. That seems like unnecessary brute force for this phone, since it can accommodate other fonts. Just need to figure out how to install them. I tried unpacking one of those apks but couldn't find the instructions for what it was doing.
I pm'd the OP for help. Maybe he can explain.
There's an XDA-Power-Fonts.apk floating around somewhere here on XDA.... It has like 200 different fonts to choose from? You might search for that and see if your font is in that list?
You just install the .apk and then set it like normal fonts on HTC ROM's.
Wasn't in the apk pack. That's a shame.

With some help from @cbrown245, I figured out how to do it. I had the location wrong.
Whatever font you want to add has to be renamed DroidSans.ttf and dropped into data/data/HTCFonts/fontFolderName_x (the "x" is a number that may be 1 or 2 or something else).
Replace what's in there wth your font, set permissions to rw-r-r, and reboot. Your system may act up while you're doing this, since you're messing with an active system file.
Alternatively, drop the font into one of the zips in this thread.
