[Q] getting a new sd card - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was wondering if i get a new sd card will my cwm files more over to new sd card when i boot up not including my backups obviously and can i transfer my backups on my old sd card on to my new sd card sorry if this has been asked before but did not see it..

No. You have to copy all your files to a computer then copy them back to the new card. Your CWM is a recovery on your phone storage not your sd card. Only backups, pics, media, and data are on your sd card.

Yes you can transfer your backups. There in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups. Just copy them over and you can restore.

So thats how to erase the sd card what about the other things i listed?
Are they the correct procedure? What do i need on the SD card after the new ROM is on?
Thanks
J
I'd:
1. Backup apps you want the data for using Titanium Backup
2. Copy the contents of the SD card to your PC
3. Format SD card in PC using card reader
4. Copy back the data you want from original SD card backup to the clean SD card
5. Flash new ROM
6. Restore data from Titanium Backup

This is what i would like to get confirmation on, What do i need back on the sd card? Titanium Backup i assume, will the phone put what ever it needs back on if i format from the PC rather than the phone?
Thanks
J
I don't understand what you mean. If you copy everything from the SD card to your PC and then format the SD card you'll have a clean SD card. Then copy back the folders you need (Titanium Backup, photos, music, etc). The phone will then create the other folders it needs on first boot

[Q] Setting up new SDcard?

My SD card has been acting funny and only mounting read-only randomly and I already have another one layng around and wanted to go ahead and switch to the new one.
My question is, is it as simple as copying everything from my old one onto my PC and then copying all that onto the new one? So I need to format the new one first?..
I tried searching but couldnt find the answer... thanks guys
BTW, I have the stock SanDisk in there now and the problems started after flashing CM7... and I'll be switching to a new Lexar 8GB..
Yes. Just copy the contents of your current card to an external drive or computer, format and/or partition your new card the way you want it and then copy the stuff you transferred to your computer or external drive onto your new card. You should always have a backup of SD card in case it gets corrupted or damaged.

Agreed...it's very simple to do. When I switched from my 8 to 16 I made sure to keep a pure backup of the 8 on my computer.

Can't access SD card

Hi,
I both a new A100, I put the Sd card and downloaded some epub files (saved in the SD card, acording an incomming message. But I can't access the SD card, where to find it to open the downloaded files. I need another app, or it's other way.
Can somebody help me?
SD Card is mounted in \mnt\external SD. You may need to navigate up,you might be starting in \mnt\sdcard
I'm having the same problem here
Is there any way i can put everything I downloaded directly on the sd card instead of internal. Like files I downloaded they went to my internal instead of my sd
please reply thank you

Micro SD Card Question

Ok, so I have my Droid Incredible, which is rooted, and the 2gb storage is almost up, I want to buy another Micro SD Card for the phone, will the mess anything up, and is it possible to copy all important root files and put copies of the rules to the new SD Card ?

Your root is on the system storage of the phone, not the SD card. If you swap it out, you won't have any problems.
Also, you can copy the contents of the SD card over to the new one so you don't mess up any applications that have data on the SD card.
Man, thanks i had the same doubt

[Q] New Sd Card swap questions

My question is: If my current (stock) sd card is partitioned, do I need to partition my new sd card in AmonRa before transferring the files over?
Also, what other tips/tricks might be of use when replacing an sd card?
TIA
Jake
back up apps via TB or similar program, reboot into recovery, make a backup, turn on Ms toggle, copy contents of SD card to PC,turn off Ms toggle, turn off phone, switch SD cards, boot phone holding volume down+power, select recovery, create new partition with your choice of settings and ext upgrade, turn on Ms toggle, transfer contents from PC, turn off Ms toggle, run dta2sd if need be, reboot phone, restore apps if need be. I think I got everything there.
