Hello-
I am trying to root my Tmobile Galaxy S2 but I can seem to get my computer to recognize the internal or MicroSD memory. According the the rooting instructions I need to place the Superuser .zip onto the internal memory before I do anything else. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Did you install the proper Samsung USB drivers?
I installed the drivers linked in the rooting thread. The device shows up but the memory is not accessable. I am using windows 7 pro not sure if that matters.
On the phone did you drag down the notification menu, click on the USB notification, and select the computer to access storage?
That was it. Thanks you so very much!!!

Recently I had my galaxy s3 updated to cm10.1, and I'm loving the new features but I'm having some difficulties connecting the phone to the computer for file transfer. My computer does recognize the device, but when I click on it, and look in the internal storage, it shows that there are no files in there, even though there are. When I go in my file manager on my phone, there are 3 storage components: sd card (/storage/sdcard1), internal storage (/storage/emulated/0), and USB storage (storage/usbdisk0). I'm only able to access internal storage, and the rest it says "This operation requires elevated permissions. Try changing the Root Access mode." Not sure if this part is relevant, but just wanted to share. What do?
Since I have installed this update I can no longer access the storage on my one via usb to pc? Before the update I would just plug the usb in and windows would ask if I wanted to open this mass storage device and I would just click yes and then I was in. Now there is nothing. I tried explorer but cant gain access that way either. Is there something I need to install or change in the phones settings now? Also what the hell is MTP mode? Running stock 4.3 now and was stock 4.2.2 before this update. Do I need to update a driver on my pc now to accommodate 4.3? I am drawing a blank now as to what the deal is??? Can someone please point me in the right direction? And yes I have tried different usb cables
MTP mode is what google uses since 4.2. basically instead of the phone dividing up the available memory for apps / storage it now puts all available storage together for you to use what you need it for. before you would get phones with 8gb storage and 1gb would be dedicated to apps, 7gb for storage. when you installed too many apps you would run out of room on the 1gb and start trying to figure out how you could move apps to sd-card to get more storage, etc... now with MTP you don't have that issue. there is no preset to how much storage can be used for what.
you should not need any additional drivers other than what windows will automatically install when a new device is plugged in. also, my phone shows as a device now in explorer and not as a drive letter.
is it possible when you plugged your phone in via usb cable that you accidentally cancelled the new device install? perhaps you can go to your device manager with the phone plugged in and see if there are any devices with an yellow ! point and then try to reinstall drivers for that device.
I don't understand. MTP mode is the only way that the HTC One ever interacted with a PC. To my knowledge, Google removed USB Mass Storage as of JB 4.1
Hi,
Since recently I can't access the Galaxy Note II SD card when connected on USB. I'm on Osx and I'm using Android File Transfert.
It was works like a charm. Now I can plug the phone have acces to the internal storage, but when I try to access the SD card the message telling that the device may be lock or unplugged is displayed.
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock. I search on internet but found nothing conclusive.
Thanks.
Regards,
Ever since I got my G3 from Sprint, I haven't been able to see my external SD card on my PC when I connect with my USB cable. I only see my internal memory. This worked perfectly with my Galaxy S3, but it's been problematic from the get-go with this device. I can see and follow the paths on my device using ES File Explorer, but I don't have that path to click on in my File Manager on my laptop.
If I choose PTP, I can see my pictures, but if I choose MTP, I get nothing. I've toggled back & forth with debugging, but that doesn't change anything. Is it a driver I need to download? I have a 32 gig card, and I want to transfer some files to my pc that I no longer need for this device. I also want to more clearly see what's taking up all my memory, because I can't believe I'm using as much as my Settings/Storage says I am. I don't have a whole lot on here since flashing BarRin, and it says I'm using over 30 gb of internal and over 26 of my external. No way!!
Anyone have a fix?
I am an idiot. I downloaded the drivers, and I'm fine now. If the mods want to delete this thread, that will be fine. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi folks,
Lineage 16 (latest version) is now installed on my S5, however when I connect the USB, the phone just shows as 'SM-G900F' on my W10 PC and cannot be expanded, basically no Phone and Card folders.
I can see them in the phone no problem, but once I connect it, I am not prompted with the usual message on what I want to do, like file transfer etc. and on the left menu appears only the model of the phone.
I had no issues when I flashed the original firmware, so it must be related to Lineage.
I also installed the Android USB drivers, but no go.
Changing the USB Preferences, to PTP or File Transfer only allows me to see the phone folder but no SD.
I also tried a new SD, no success.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Alex

Do you have adopted or removable SD?

I have re-flashed everything and started from the beginning.
lineage-16.0-20190918-nightly-klte-signed + open_gapps-arm-9.0-mini-20190921
SanDisk SD Card 32GB, either way I try to format it does the following:
Phone Storage: attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String android.os.storage.VolumeInfo.getId()' on a null object reference.
SanDisk SD Card unsupported
Portable Storage: When I hit format, it says: Your Card is ready to use - I click Done but still the cart shows in the Storage area as portable Storage SanDisk SD Card Unsupported
The card is OK, also because if I flash the original ROM the same card works perfectly and shows up in my PC too.
This is very annoying, I am stuck on this for days and even trying other cards I get the same.
I hope you can help me to resolve this matter.
Thank you!
Alex
