dude you have to be more specific. were all other devices with wifi able to connect?
Well it's obviously not your device considering you said it worked on a different network.
so my question to you is why ask a router related question in a cell phone forum?
if you have a modem and a router pull the power cable out of both, wait 15-30 seconds, then plug the MODEM in first(has to be this order) and wait for the MODEm to sync up(if dsl is your service wait for the light labled DSL/SYNC to go solid and if cable wait for the light labled CABLE to go solid). After you have properly synced your MODEM then plug the router in and wait for that to boot up.
Now all of that is only needed if you have NO connection on any device, otherwise you will just be wasting your time.
Please give more details to your issue

make sure you aren't using a firewall type program, like droidwall, or if you are, then you need to grant firewall access to market, and probably tick "allow background data" check box, under android's settings menu

That shouldn't be the issue. Unless the app knows to block market on one network and not the other.
If we knew if other devices or even that one could browse webs we could cancel out a large portion and narrow it down pretty quick

Also make sure your sd card is valid. Mount it on your pc and do a chkdsk, I recently had a market download issue and doing a usb mount my pc wanted to clean the disk. After cleaning it, it started to work again.

Make sure that the firewall for your home network (either on your router or modem) isn't in nazi mode like I had mine set as. I had to open up the necessary ports for my phone to access the Android Market. After a while I got sick of reading logs and opening ports so I just decreased the level of auschwitz my firewall was set as.
I apologize if my wordage offends you, but I had my **** locked down TIGHT.

I think you right.. can you give me instruction to change the firewall or port for my router/modem???

I don't know what kind of modem or router you have. I suggest you find the manuals for your respective devices and see how they tell you to configure your settings. As for the ports, a quick google search finds that you need to open port 5228* on the outside and inside of the firewall for the Google Market. Like I said before, I had to check my logs to see what ports my phone was trying to open and then allow them.

Best WIFI app for Windows Mobile 6.x

Hi all,
As I am sure to find a good number of super geeks on Windows Mobile in here, I am simply wondering... out of all the Wifi programs available out there for Windows Mobile, I am looking for something that will do the following:
Automatically detect new Wifi networks and automatically connect to the best/fastest Open Wifi network in whatever location I may be.
Is there such a thing? This would help me cut down on data costs and would also save me a lot of time instead of having to navigate to the wifi networks, finding an open one and connecting to it.
Any input appreciated!
DaScope
cut down data cost??
so your saying you have a limit to your data on your phone?
and its not safe to connet to any and every network with out you knowing btw
hmm.. for me the best wifi app is the one that can crack wep/wpa keys )
I know someone used wififofum, which does exactly as you want. however, they seemed to have trouble connecting to their own (security enabled) home wifi.
this may work, havent tried yet: http://www.wefi.com/download/?cat=mobile

LMAO...good one
I'm pretty happy with the stock comm manager, but it would be nice to have a manager that saved your profiles and that was easy to back up. I use Makisu to back up password protected Wifi accounts, but it's kind of a pain in the butt.

Few items

I have left some items with their default settings, and want to know if changing them will screw up the nightlies (when they resume)
Does USB debugging, debugging notify and allow mock locations have to be on?
Can the device hostname be changed to be more name friendly on my router?
Under privacy, can I deselect backup my data? I don't want anything stored on google.
Finally there is an option (can't remember where) named run in compatible mode. Is this necessary to be active?
Thanks so much!

1. No, but its recommended to have usb debugging enabled, in case anything happens
2.Yes, the device host name can be changed.
3.Yes, you can, just remember you de-selected it in case things go missing
4.No, you don't have to have it checked, but having it checked doesn't do any harm.
Thanks for the really quick feedback!

Fake GPS Location - Geolocation Emulator for Phone

now with mango we got the new gps emulator for our pc's which is great.
but i was just wondering if we can tell our Phones to use some other GPS Coordinates instead of the real ones.
i already guess no, but it could come in handy...
I honestly can't think of a reason I'd want my phones GPS software to think it was somewhere else. What would you use this for? Just out of curiosity

fun
like i want to use chat apps with location
but when im at home i dont want to give out my exact location
i know some service have area instead of exact location,
but i dont want to depend on the 3rd party to disguise it.
so if i could set it 3 blocks away im good.
also it would be fun to send facebook messages from top of mount everest
and maybe now there is no real need for it,
but with the comming of lots with location enabled apps
im sure there will be reasons.
maybe also to use location services on wp7 even if you are not in the area.
to prepare a trip or something.
im sure people would love such an app
of course, such an app will be great!
who know have the program now to transfer GPS data to pc throw usb and create virtual com port ???
for PC navigation program (use WP7 like a usb gps) ?

How do I put a VPN shortcut on my 'home' screen?

Hi,
I am currently using a VPN to get into my network & Then accessing my data that way. However to get to it in Gingerbread, I have to hit menu, then settings, then wireless, then scroll down to VPN, then click on my VPN, then put my password in & hit connect.
It would help a lot to be able to just click on my VPN link on the 'home' screen. I cant figure out how to get the shortcut there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rich
I just tried and you add a shortcut to your home screen, just as you add a widget.
I dont see anything related to a VPN within the shortcut menu or widgets. Any ideas on how to do a shortcut for the VPN?
Tried anycut from the market?
Sent from an Epic in the sky.
Thanks, Anycut might do the trick, of course there is no VPN listed. Is there a way to determine what processes are running in Android? If i could find the VPN process, I could probably get it going.
I believe you can achieve this with Tasker. I know its a paid app but its an option.
As a side note, how did you manage to get tour vpn to work? Are you using ddwrt by chance? Since getting this phone I could no longer vpn over sprints network due to firewall issues. From what I found online if you ask sprint for a static IP it fixes the problem but they charge you a monthly fee. It used to work fine on my old HTC hero.

We use L2TP/IPSEC PSK at work though Sonicwall, and it works great.
I don't have a static IP on my account. Works fine from 3g or my home WiFi.

I am using a Zyxel firewall & L2TP also. It works fine but... sprints lousy service seems to stall out, requiring me to re login to the VPN. Yesterday with 1 bar, I was logged into the VPN but there was not enough 3g to actually use any data, but enough to stay logged in for 2 hours & not get any emails.
It works fine & I suspect if i had better 3g (or verizon) it would work OK.
I was using DDWRT & OpenVPN with CM7 on my Evo 4g & it worked but I switched to a new router.
Yeah, missing emails is never good.
We don't have an Exchange server at work (not cost effective enough to make it work properly across 10 locations), so I'm able to access my email with K9 via IMAP or POP3.
It's strange that it worked with one Sprint phone, but not reliably with another. Has data service had a general decline in your area?

You should try vpn show. You can find it in google play.
Check the "Launch VPN" app on Google Play
Sorry to revive an old thread. I was looking for this as well and found a way. Just adding if anyone searches for this sort of thing.
Add a shortcut to home screen, select settings, then look for VPN.
This works in my HTC ONE on 4.2.2
I use NFC Task Launcher on my Samsung Galaxy S4.
The following could be a little bit different depending on your phone's make and model and rom type. I did the following.
WARNING: I am not responsible for any damage made to your phone or anybody or anything else during the reading or by following the acts of this tutorial in any way possible.
Click to collapse
Open up NFC Task Launcher and go through the tutorial.
- In the end you can create you own task.
- When you create a new task just click for NFC.
If you have NFC Disabled, just leave it like that and when it'll ask you if you want to enable it, press cancel. (TIP; if the top bar overlay is bugging with more information, just tap on one of the buttons after explanation to have it's focus come back to the window.)
- Name the task 'VPN' or something.
- Click on the cross (✚) in the right top corner to add an action
- Search for 'Applications & Shortcuts' and select 'Open Activity', then click next at the bottom.
- The application list will load up. Select 'Settings' as an application and the activities list will be updated.
- Choose; 'com.android.settings.Settings$VpnSettingsActivity' and select 'Add to Task' at the bottom.
- Then press the arrow to the right '→' in the top right corner.
- It will say you need to place a tag underneath it. DON'T DO THAT, AS IT WILL OVERWRITE THE TAG. (I hope you still have NFC OFF!)
- Just press the tick mark (✓)
- Now you have at least 1 task in the 'My Tasks' list.
Now, to add this to you're homescreen, do the following;
- Go to your homescreen.
- Add a widget like you would normally do. The name of the widget is 'Run Task', so look for the 'R'.
- There are 3 options there, background color (I personally like the black BG), select Icon (I've chosen the gear icon since its a setting) and select task. In 'Select Task' choose for the VPN task you've made and press 'Done'.
- Now press the task on the homescreen, and it'll open up the VPN list (at least on SGS4 it does).
- Connect to your VPN as you would normally do.
You can even write this to an NFC, but that doesn't make sense, since all it does is open the VPN settings menu, not connecting to the VPN directly.
Sidenote; This app is also handy for making other tasks, such as tweeting your at work, check in at Foursquare, send your boss an email that you're in the office and turn off the sound of your phone all in one task, just by connecting to your works wifi connection or by taping an NFC task.
Now you can easily connect to your favorite VPN easily.

Mobile Network Traffic despite WLAN connected

Hi,
when my HOX is lying near by PC Speakers, i can hear Internet Traffic over EDGE/UMTS excatly all 3 Minutes. (I hope u can understand what i mean)
I´m wondering about that bescause WIFI is active and connected, and i never had this with my DHD.
Due to optimizing Battery life, i disable mobile Network manually when i´m at home and have WIFI connected.
I use ARHD 9.1.0 with stock Kernel and EQS + APM + %Batterycircle + Autobrighness by jotha.
Baseband: 2.1204.135.20
Build; 2.17.401.2 CL89015
Any Ideas whats generating this traffic and why the HOX don´t use WIFI for that?
its normal gsm traffic. like if somebody sent you an sms, you would hear that sound. not sure why it didn't do it with dhd and now does with hox, but either way, shielded speakers are there to solve that problem. as for adapting your current speakers to shield them, not sure if its possible or not though.

Thanks for your Answer, but i don´t hear that Traffic if mobile Network is disabled, so i thinkt it can´t be "normal GSM Traffic".
oh i see what you mean..
might be network location services?
settings>location>google's location service.
i know the location services use wifi as well, but it might use mobile network in conjuction even if connected to wifi.. try disable that and see if it continues.

Thanks again, tested, but unfortunately the traffic is still there
try download osmonitor, might be other apps more specific that can help, but osmonitor should do the trick i hope.
set your screen not to turn off, just for ease..
goto the connections tab, process tab will also be useful and watch it until the noise happens. you're looking for either a process, that jumps to the top of the list when the sound happens (spike in cpu usage), and then does it every time the sound happens, or a connection, that ISN'T your local or external wifi ip address, but also has similar behaviour, ie the connection is created when the sound occurs, and is then gone a minute later.. (the connection should show an app name)
if you find an app that looks like it could be causing it, then try to uninstall it temporarily to see if it fixes the issue. if it does fix the problem, the next step would be to contact the developer of that app to request a fix for it. it could however be a system process causing the problem.
failing the above, you could try the same sort of diagnostics, but with logcat instead. i don't actually know how to initiate logcat, i'm sure a google will tell you how though.
Thanks again! (i´ll hit the Button )
Okay, got that app installed.
Unfortunately the Sound DOES NOT appear all 3 Minutes when the Display is on.
When it starts and i unlock my screen i cant see any new entries in the Connectionstab.
Processes the same, but "Android System" shortly came on Top. (maybe the Display Unlock is the Reason for that?)
BTW: Why i got 2 permanent open Connections?
1. Google Bookmark-Sync (Whois -> Google)
2. Downloadmanager (Whois -> "The New York Internet Company")
Not idea what that could be.

you should be able to set the display to never turn off in settings>display and gestures
i don't think it'll be very easy if even possible to find it if the screens off (the spike would only be there for a second or 2, by the time it's unlocked etc it will have disappeared)
the other connections, first one is probably the google account sync, and not sure about download manager, maybe something got stuck, you could try clearing data for the download app, but to be honest i doubt that they're any problem anyway so probably nothing to worry about
edit: the download manager bit judging by the whois could be an app relating to that? do you have anything similarly named installed?

This is crazy - when the screen is on, the sound isnt audible. It only happens when the screen is off.
In the Connections Tab is only one Connection without my WiFi-IP, and whois shows me its a DNS Server from my Carrier (vodafone).
In the Process Tab i can see that "System" comes up on Top for ca 2 seconds, further no action.
The 2 Connections which stays established:
Clearing the Donwloadmanager Data was a Success... Thanx again.
The Connection to Google from "Google Bookmark-Sync" is still there. Gmail Sync is deactivated in accounts.
I think i´ll give it up and live with it
