After i flashed the Starburst v1.7 I have no 3G? Speed tests are: Ping 1910ms, Down-15kbps up-51kbps
I've been getting those speeds during the evening ever since the 4s went on sale.
If you know your msl, dial ##debug#, enter the msl, click evdo and look at the bottom at the AN-AAA. If it says pass then that means you are authenticated. Probably means Sprint is slow.
mine says none
How do I authenticate?

Never saw none before. It should be pass or fail. Did you do an ESN repair on this phone and forget to program your account name and passwords? If not, Odin a stock firmware.
You could try to dial ##72786#, which will erase everything and you will need to reprovision your phone. Going to the sprint site and swapping phones and swapping back and reprovisioning could help.
You could always punt and flash back to stock and seek help at a sprint store. Look up DYI USB jig so you can reset the Odin counter. It's a micro USB adapter and a 301kohm resistor jumpered across two pins.
Mine says Fail next to AN-AAA.. I'm on Starbust 1.8 and Stock Pulled w/CWM kernel. Guess I'll flash back to stock and see what it says. But I never had great 3G (or 4G) before this ROM either.

Flashing back may not fix it, it's a provisioning issue. Try system/about phone/ updates/update provision. You may have to call sprint or go to a store. It is fixable. I just had a similar problem but for a different reason.
i would wipe data and cache format system n wipe dalvik n reinstall 1.8
Another thing you can look at is dialing ##data#, select edit, select white box and enter msl. Select data profile.
Username should be your sprint email address. [email protected]
Device ip 0.0.0.0
Primary ha ip 255.255.255.255
Secondary 68.28.57.76 (at least on my phone)
Ha password is secret (yes the word secret in lower case). This is used to setup the encryption for the key exchange. This hidden and you can not see it.
Aaa password is used actually to login to the network. It is phone specific and changes every time your phone is provisioned. It is hidden also. I would not change the aaa password change unless you know it. You probably need todo a hex dump to get this, newer phones prevent QPST, qxdm or CDMA workshop from seeing it.
If the first 4 items I mentioned are different try the above values. Avoid changing the the last two I mentioned.
There are a couple other things you can check with QPST and CDMA workshop but if you are not doing anything illegal, normal provisioning would fix them.
Last night (in bed), I did a nand backup and then the following and check AN-AAA after each...
1. Restored my stock rom nand (includes LostKernel). AN-AAA passed.
2. Factory Reset, installed fresh Starburst 1.8. AN-AAA passed.
3. Installed StockCWM5 kernel AN-AAA passed.
4. Restored by backup from above (SB1.8 w/StockCWM5). AN-AAA failed.
5. Format system and re-installed Starburst 1.8, AN-AAA Passed
So, just re-installing Starburst 1.8 seemed to fix it.
Still had AN-AAA Passed this morning after getting to work (we have bad signal here) and 3G was working at about 300kpbs. However, I just checked again and it say's failed again and 3G is not working. Will look at it when I leave the building.
gedster314, those settings looked the same for me, except the 3rd octet of the secondary address was different. It was 177.
Followup to last post...
I left the building where I should have better 3G signal. Still showed "failed" on AN-AAA. Tried several things.. rebooted, wiped dalvik, wiped cache, resintalled SB1.8, then all those things together with a /system format. Nothing helped, still said "Failed". By this time, I had reached where I was to have lunch, which incidentally is in a VERY good signal area (I635 & MacArthur near Dallas).
Even though AN-AAA still showed failed, I did a speed test on 3G and got back 1115kbps down and 600kpbs up. That's the best 3G speeds I've ever seen on this phone. That area also gives me about 12000kpbs down on 4G. (everywhere else I get about 1/5 to 1/10 of those speeds).
So, I don't see how 3G reception is at all dependant on AN-AAA pass/fail.
Now after starburst 1.8 install im getting LOS for the first time and still crap internet speeds. Guess I'm bailing on this rom. Can't seem to get any help on the strarburst thread.

I purchased 2 Sprint TP's and reprogrammed them to work on the Verizon network. Both work for voice but only one can access the internet and I can not figure out what is wrong with the other phone. I am new to cell phone programming so my knowledge is very basic. I followed instructions contained on PPCGEEKS at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44663. I am using the stock VZW ROM, I've set the MIP according to instructions but when I try to connect at 1X with the one phone I get a message saying "error, network problem, dialing #777". I have tried to do a hard reset but can not do it for some reason so I have reinstalled the VZW ROM a couple of times and setup the programming according to the instructions on PPCGEEKS but I get the same error. What can I do to make this work? The MIP is retained when I reinstalled the ROM-I wonder if I could erase the MIP and redo it if that might not fix the problem. I do not know how to erase it of course. I have spent all weekend trying to get this to work and I really need help.
Thanks
p.s. I got the phone to work finally-not sure why but here is what I did. I found some software on the phone that would do a hard reset at settings/memory/clear storage tab-good stuff to use. I then verified with Verizon that my account was setup correctly. Then I put the old phone back on the network and tried to access data on it and it worked ok so I then put my TP back on the network. Evidently when I did this, it rewrote some information that it was not writing before to the Verizon computers when I did *228 3 because I was then able to get data to work on 1X. After that it works fine. It took me forever to figure this out so hopefully this message will save someone time in the end.

Got up this morning and turned on (or tried to turn on) 4G via the widget. Nothing. Went to settings to try and activate, and 4G is greyed out, with "Turning on..." showing. Went to 4G settings, and everything is greyed out (with "Turning on..." showing).
Pulled the battery and brought back up, same problem.
Did a hard reset. When the phone came back up, first thing I did was to try Wimax. Have same issues.
Phone was updated to Froyo a couple of weeks ago and has been working great until this morning.
Any ideas? The thought of getting a refurb phone doesn't thrill me. In the past the refurb I received (not Evo, but others) were worse than the one I sent it.
Thanks,
Kelly
Couple of questions.
Are you in a 4G market, or in a "testing" area?
Rooted, or Stock?
Try this.. Start 4G, while it is starting goto Settings, About Phone, Hardware Information. Copy down your MAC address for 4G. Shut the phone down, and remove the battery. Compare the address you wrote down to the one listed inside the battery tray. Do they match?
I'm in Dallas (established market)
Stock (never rooted)
Tried what you suggested. When I first went into settings, it showed the MAC as "unavailable". I powered down, removed the battery and copied down the Wixmx MAC, then turned on the phone.
Brought phone back up. Tried to activate Wimax, but apparently it never did. MAC shows "unavailable" (same as when WiFi or Bluetooth are off). Apparently, the Wimax radio isn't powering up?
Ok, I am at work so I am limited to doing stuff via my phone. But there is a post about checking your mac address xml file. Find that post, and follow that procedure to verify your mac address is borked.
Next is to check your RSA keys. You do that by using adb shell, remounting /system as read/write. Then typing in
grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0
You should get at the end of the listing RSA PRIVATE KEY BEGIN, and RSA PRIVATE KEY END. If you dont get that then your 4g keys are lost, and you will need to replace the phone.

Never rooted? Is stroll into Sprint and have them fix it.
I had the same problem once, although in my case it was 4G and WiFi. That was my fault though. If I remember, I hadn't properly cleared my caches between roms and flashed the newer radios twice. I just had to completely wipe and reflash to fix it. That's probably not your problem though. I guess my post isn't all that helpful. Sorry, and good luck.

I'm having the same problem, but I have a rooted EVO.
I've tried:
Wiping both caches twice, then reflashing the latest WiMAX radio
I verified the MAC address on the back on my phone matches the MAC address under hardware information on the phone
I verified I still have my RSA keys
I'm running the stock rooted ROM version 3.26.651.6. Does anyone have any other suggestion I could try to restore my WiMAX?
Try doing a profile update, failing that try a master reset (##786#).

I'd try doing a complete data wipe / factory reset. Reflash the rom. And check to make sure wimax doesn't work before trying to flash the wimax update. A lot of roms have the update already included. If you try flashing the radio twice it causes problems I believe.
Now it works in many areas in NYC, including my apartment in Inwood, Times Square, UWS, UES,..
But when the 4G signal is weak, the phone hesitates which one to use, 4G or 3G, and sometimes it won't decide, and get a "Data" error.

Huh.. I work over at 49th and AoA, and I don't get 4G...even outside.. You suck..
So my friend rooted his Evo with Unrevoked. I verified s-off.
He copied a PC36IMG onto his SD which turns out was some 2.1 rooted stock ROM. After doing that his phone could not make/receive calls/text or connect to 1x/3G/4G. Basically an expensive phone that has no phone functions. Everything else works (WiFi included). He flashed http://link.geekfor.me/rootedromzip onto his phone from http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...vo-install-clockwork-recovery.html#post165998.
When I looked at it, he still did not have a custom recovery so I flashed Amon RA PC36IMG. Full factory wiped data/cache/dvalik. Flashed Synergy RC1. Phone still could not make/receive calls and was getting Error 16 when trying to call. Called Sprint and they reprovisioned phone and fixed calls and texting. Noticed his phone is stuck on 1x and cannot connect to 3G when my phone next to his works fine. Did not test 4G yet since I have poor 4G coverage in my area. Cannot update his profile - just sits there like something is happening but it never completes.
What are his options here? Is it a bad radio or something that we can fix? Can we flash a stock rooted ROM and regain 3G? Remember, no nandroid was made unfortunately.
I would try flashing the latest radios just to be sure. And tell your friend to always make a nandroid backup to avoid this problem in the future.
Well his first time flashing. I think he mistakenly thought the PC36IMG as a custom recovery but it was actually an entire ROM.
Didn't have a chance to nandroid. I'm instructing him how to update newest radio combo and seeing what happens.
Update: Flashed latest combo radio. Updated profile and PRL. Still stuck on 1x even after reboot. Is he hosed? Does Sprint have to do something on their end to fix his EVDO? 4G isn't working either by the way.
Update 2: Wimax Keys Checker - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.joeykrim.wimaxkeys says that RSA Key is present. Relieved that he didn't lose his RSA key. Just can't figure for the life of me why he can't connect to 3G or 4G. Not sure where to go from here? Maybe trying to flashing latest stock rooted RUU? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110733
Bumping for some attention.
Hey, happened to me a couple of times, it will come back. Maybe wipe everything again, have you tried ##data# and entering msl key, wait... Have you updated his data profile in settings

Ok, was on the road when I had wife reply...lol.. When you rebooted the phone, did you wipe cache, and dalvik. Then try updating profile? It sounds weird, but has worked for me,without even updating profile. I have had no coverage before after flashing a Rom,also, did just that, and it came back. If rsa keys are present, that is good. If you would be kind enough to reply, whether fixed or not, would appreciate it,anyway, gonna move on...

Updating profile and PRL doesn't work. It keeps attempting to update but it is never successful.
I haven't had a chance to get his phone to just try reflashing a new ROM or stock ROM to see what will happen though.
He says using ##data# and entering his MSL code and changing EVDO to automatic doesn't work either.

I would start over again ... wipe completely with Calkulin's "fomat all" zip and flash a rooted stock rom like xhausx. Once the phone boots up, call Sprint and have them walk you through provisioning everything. Once all is well, then move into whatever custom stuff he wants.

You took the words from my mouth!
Is he Flashing the RUU's or just running them through the computer? Normally, you sync your phone or through hBoot and then start the program, try flashing stock Froyo and then factory reset once flashed, it helps clear out traces of old roms etc. If you need anymore help feel free to ask, I would be more than happy!
I don't think it worked.
Calkulin's Format, flashed Odexed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379.
It showed 3G but I think it was misleading. Wiped and flashed to evodeck and it went back to showing 1x. My phone has 3G showing on evodeck next to his so he definitely has 3G coverage.
I guess it's just time to call Sprint for a re-provision? Does it have to be on a Sense ROM for them to reprovision?

you dont need Sprint to provision, just get your MSL code and do it your self plus I would do a search for people who may of had similar issues and see what they did. Now if that does not work then why dont you check what your network settings are.. See if its set to CDMA(Auto) I remember my Touch Pro I could of set it to 1x maybe something is getting stuck. I think its in ##3282 you check it and I also remember an app on the market called network that did it for you as well.
If that does not work then flash 3.70 radios and then a 3.70RUU and start from scratch.
He already tried ##data#. He can change his EVDO to automatic but it doesn't stay that way.
Alright I don't know how I fixed it but it's fixed.
Just cannot get 4G now. Wimax keys are present. It keeps scanning and cannot get connect. Previously could get 4G at these locations.
I am running EVO as donor/target phone, my is only 1x speed, no matter which rom I try
Synergery, Mik, Stock-Rooted, differ kernal, different PRL, check the data profile Automatic, Try restore but can not cat automatically update, still need to go qpst to update my profile. I have been working on this for two weeks. I went back to my orig phone, it show ev most of time, the speed is must faster than my evo. Searc all over from goole, still no luck, Anyone any idea to try

i know this post is somewhat old. but Making a back up wont take hardly and extra time! always always make one unless you have 100% reliable roms already backed up.
I have an evo 4g on Sprint, HW rev 3. Was originally running CM9, but that's irrelevant to this problem...
So, I tried to update my radio last week. The first attempt broke the radio -- it was a bad download, I guess. I was able to get a new one over using RA recovery and successfully flash.
I got into a Sense rom, then had no data. Tried profile reset, no luck. Tried ##RTN# reset, no luck. Every time, the phone activates successfully and I can make calls, but data isn't provisioned and I can't get 3G data (4G works fine). Error 67 all over the place, even when trying to update profile.
After tons of research, I found out that it was not authenticating to the 3G network even on Profile 0. Here's the punchline: Using QXDM I read out my AAA secret, it is all zeros! NV positions 465, 466, 1194, and 1196 all read back as zero. Somehow they got wiped.
Is there any way to recover these on my own? If not, can Sprint reset the NV registers to something useful?
Reprovision the data services.
##rtn#
It forces hands free activation.
While traveling away from home, I noticed a large area with no coverage, so I tried to update my roaming capabilities through *228.
The phone rebooted and has been showing "no Signal" since. I could be standing right below a tower and still get the no signal message.
I'm not trying to reflash it, but always get the same problem. I reflashed various versions of boot.img, recovery.img and of the ROM, but always with no luck, the phone is always stuck in No SIgnal mode. Wifi runs fine, so I assume it's not an antenna problem. I'm running the TWRP tools 4.2.3.1 and the x3reme Sense ROM. I can connect it to my computer, and send adb or fastboot commands, not problem.
One problem may be that when I try to wipe the phone clean, I get an error message "can't mount /sd-ext" and the script aborts. So I never fully wipe the phone.
How can I fully wipe the phone? is this what I should be doing? Do I need to go back to CDMA tools to reconfigure?
Thanks in advance!

Interesting things can happen when trying this function:

I don't say you have damaged your sim card already but it's might be worth testing with different one rather than changing kernels and roms.

Interesting point. Thanks.
I should add that I have a CDMA phone (Verizon/VM/PP...) flashed for Page Plus.
Still, I suspect something was written over and this is why I may have to use CDMA workshop to look into this.
Or wipe it and start over.
Does anyone know?
As an update, turned out the problem was in the PRL file.
Using CDMA tools, I reloaded the pageplus.prl file and the system came back alive!
I hope this helps someone else.
