On Line Typing Issue - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Basically having the issue on FaceBook but it has cropped up in other spots as well.
Currently using Gingerbread Keyboard.
The issue is that in both horizontal and vertical, the space provided within which to type something is so darn narrow top to bottom that after the first line of text, I can't see what I'm typing, maneuver the cursor, etc.
Am I missing something or is that just the way it is?

Messaging window

Is there anyways to make the part of the screen where the text your typing can me made to be larger. As I am typing a new text, you can only see one line maybe before it scrools out of view. Most of the screen is showing the text you aleady have read or seen. You know what I mean? Thanks.....
You're probably talking about the text messaging field in the unified communications screen. I don't know about enlarging that text window, but here's a suggestion. Use the default messaging app. Don't go into the threaded messages window, just use Compose New. It doesn't look as pretty, but you get a large field to see the text you're typing and it launches faster.
That seems to be an inconvenience, having to do "compose new mail" each and every time to respond to a text. It seems there would be a way to make that window larger and the other smaller. I'm no programmer by no means, but I have seen these guys do a lot more complex things for our devices.

My SMS screen in M2D keeps screwing up.

I'm running the ATT stock rom minus bloat. When I recieve a text, half the time it doesn't scroll down to the most recent text. I have to scroll down manually. If I close the message app and then reopen it, it usually does scroll to the most recent text. Also, the area in which you type your message is chopped in half, so you can't see what you've typed. I had this same issue on my Tilt and now I'm having it on my Tilt 2. On my Tilt, I was even running a modified rom.
When I have that half line of text I open up the onscreen keyboard, close it and my text box is back to normal. Another suggestion was to make the text box 4 lines instead of 2, so even if you have hte issue you still have 2 1/2 lines. I have the same thing with the most recent text, but I live with it because its not too bothersome.
How do you make it four?
Not sure how that is done?
I was looking for a while and couldn't find the post I was refeering to, all I could find was something for the tp1:
Are there ways to enlarge the sms typing area?
you can use the freeware "TOTAL COMMANDER" and edit the file thread_sms.html. You can do a search to easily find it...windows directory.
look for this part:
<inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBECT" width="98%" height=35 spell...
and play around with the number in height (in this case 35). change to 70 and get 3 lines for text replies. Just change the numbers and see what works for you.
*you need to soft reset after editing the file.

Froyo contacts

Hi,
Was wondering is the standard froyo contacts doesn't list all the alphabetical letters on the right hand side? From all the froyo release so far I see the right side list missing letters : B, E,H, K, N, Q,T,W
Can we someone enable these characters again? I can live without these characters but it's just annoying...
Having the same issue here too...
And pressing the back softkey after playing a song in Music Player also causes some letters to disappear.
same issue in my sgs...strange
Yes, mine too (JPO).
The letters missing: G, H, O P
Wow, I got JPO as well..... hmmm seems the letters appears based on something. I did remember awhile ago, some letters start appearing.
It can't be by contacts, cos I got google contacts that have "b" in it but it still doesn't show the letter.
i flashed from jm1 to jpa. maybe this is the problem?
lost: GHOPX
for me it seems that if a letter has little contacts it doesnt show, and the next letter after it also dissapears..
any1 can confirm?
It's a feature. It's meant to enable users to quickly browse through their contacts. Yes, it sounds rather strange but what they intended was that you don't waste your time trying to get the the correct letter (particularly those with larger fingers) but rather in an approximate area in which you can therefore thumb up or down to the right contact.
In some ways it works, in other ways it can be annoying.
It's because of size of the fonts and the size of the top search box. There is no space for all the letters to be shown. Set lcd density to 200 and you'll see the magic.
For set lcd density to 200 have you used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=762070

where i can change this value?
You can use that app or you can change it manually by changing build.prop ro.sf.lcd_density setting to 200. Be careful with this because TW doesn't work with setting below 200. Make backup first an enable debugging so you can revert through the adb. Read all about it first in the forums!!!
yikes lcd density at 200 makes everything looks aweful......is there any other way to get it to show all the alphabet just like in eclair?
thats really strange, didnt notice though.
although it can be shown by changing the lcd density to 200, but all other application becomes not full screen, it is not the perfect solution, someone please kindly make a study on this issue, it seems caused by the inproper layout parameter of contacts resource.
I guess eclair didnt have the edit box for "search" taking up space....now in froyo with the new search box, theres lesser room!
very annoying really though Don't want to change the LCD density as it screws up other apps.

You can fix the other apps with spareparts app from the market. Compatibility mode option should be unchecked.
Tw can be replaced with the adw or launcher pro. The dialer and calculator are not in full screen view only.
Like I said , read all about it in the forums.
I personaly like the lcd tweak very much because of a larger resolution effect. You get more space on the display for icons and widgets and you can see more stuff in apps without scrolling.

[Q] Easier text editing?

I have a stock E4GT. While entering words with Swype is great, unless I am missing something, I am finding editing already-entered text (in web fields, in the email app, in the gmail app, etc.) really annoying. Sometimes I get the annoying giant copy/paste/etc. toolbar which covers up most of the text field, making scrolling in it difficult. Sometimes, I can't move the cursor to a given location, either because the device insists on selecting a whole word rather than just moving the cursor or because for some reason things don't show up on the right line. The on-screen keyboard has no arrow keys for precise positioning. Often (especially in the email app) when I tap on a word further up and then try to tap on one of Swype's alternatives for it, the alternative doesn't replace the word I tapped, but occurs in some fairly random spot in the text field. Zooming in would help, but typically I can't zoom while editing a text field.
I really, really miss the ease and precision of editing text on the resistive screens of my Palms with a stylus, with an on-screen keyboard that has arrow keys (I used myKbd, which I wrote). Swype beats the Palm on-screen keyboard (but maybe not the Treo thumbboard) for speed of entry (and the Palm TX had some infamous hardware-based digitizer problems), but correcting stuff on the E4GT is really annoying.
Am I the only person who writes lengthy, thought-out emails?
Enough griping.
Question: Is there anything I can do to make editing text less painful?
Will ICS fix this? Is there some app, perhaps a root-requiring one, that improves text field editing?

Browser zoom issues

Is there a way for the browser zoom to stop acting this way trying to fit elements even after zooming ?
As you can see zooming in on this webpage is causing stuff to overlap ...
Another thing is can you stop the web page to zoom in when enterting text fields ?
I am asking this cuz suppose there are fixed elements on the screen , zoomin to a text field sometimes causes it to overlap between the fixed element and squished between the keyboard ..
Any solutions to uniformly zoom the whole page without trying to fit everything on one page would be great
