Recently I had a brick on my Desire, which caused that I couldn't boot past the HTC Boot logo. I already made a thread about it, but without a solution. I sent my desire back for repair, but I think it wouldn't be a good idea if we all had to do this. So I would advice everyone to unroot, untill one of the genius devs has found a solution.
Symptoms:
-Boot stuck at HTC Boot Logo
-Going in to recovery takes a long time
-Recovery usually doesn't even work
Posible Solution:
-Some users are reporting, they can boot without SD and SIM (dont know if repartitioning the sd totally solves everything)
-Some users report, say that the situation is solved if you flash a diffirent rom (didn't work for me)
Finally I would like to motivate my opinion why people should unroot.
When I posted my first entry I though I was the only one, but now more and more people are getting this problem.
This problem is as said above probably something which can be solved but right now its a dangerous development.
This is the first I've heard of this issue and it not being solved by the SD card removal or reformatting.
How many people have this problem unresolved, and what exactly were you running when it happened? What rom, radio, which recovery was used etc.
I have rooted my phone and flashed about 20-30 ROM's and haven't had a single problem.
I must have been lucky to get a phone that don't brick so easy. I hope that you who have problem with this get a solution soon.

I've read about 5 diffirent posts about this. All the post are on the first two pages i think. I was running DeFrost, and used r5's recovery. And I was running the most recent radio that is now availible
@Milioo So what you said make me feel like you blame all the devs here at XDA comminity bricking your phone and have to be responsible for your bricked phone and it was bricked because of THEM. Hello, when you first rooted it and started to get cooked roms into it, you should have known there are chance that you phone would be bricked. That's always the first thing you need to put in your mind and every single dev has told so.
So if I were you, I would just shut and find the way to solve the problem or ask for solution. Anyone here would try to help. Clearly, you are not asking for solution but complaining.

I'm really sorry if i made you or anyone else feel like that. I've always have great respect for the devs who work their asses of to make great roms for us. and always look forward to new cooked roms made by them. The only reason the I made this thread is that i don't want other people to get bricked.
Could you please tell me where i implied that the devs were a fault here?
And finally, if anyone is to blame its HTC who are working so strongly against people putting custom roms on their phone, who ust want to make their user experience better.
I've had the same problem that the phone wont boot at all and get stuck at the white HTC Logo.
But it was easy fixed with a run of all the wipe options, and then flash the rom again.

Ok guys i'm sorry for posting this thread, clearly it isn't really a problem. I just wanted to post it because these instructions dind't work for me. But i will gladly remove this thread (If its possible)
hi mate .
I have the exact problem and I think it is a real problem - see my thread
Can someone help me - stuck on htc boot - very strange situation -- I was not allowed to put the link to it...
I did everything do get it started but no luck at all. is strange that can access fastboot, the pc recognize the device but the recovery didn't work at all, even one time I couldn't get it: when I push the power button the logo htc screen just appear and get stuck there.
so if every one has any idea what could be please help us,there are more than a week I tried every day to get it work again.
many thanks.
I had this problem months ago I was running my desire on a custom rom had a2sd installed formated the sd card and the phone wouldnt boot reflashed a fresh rom and everything worked fine again.
I too had this problem...
You didn't by any chance apply the unrevoked recovery did you? If so, did you also use ROM Manager.
If you read the top page of the unrevoked thread you'll see that it says that the two combined cause a problem with flash memory. To fix the brick I ran an offical HTC RUU, re-rooted using Paul's method, and then re applied unrevoked. I now definitely DO NOT use Rom manager.
Hope it was some help mate.
Yes best option if u can access hboot is to go back to stock using ruu
then re root it shd solve all probs
in my case I can acces hboot.
I did also stock ruu and PB99IMG.zip, and installed ok but just won't load OS getting stuck again on htc logo screen. I mention that I had hboot 0.75 and after stock ruu I got hboot 0.80...
still in truble, really don't know what else to try, because recovery don't work at all and I can't install a new recovery.
Is there a way to flash a recovery from fastoob???
RUU
When I flashed a RUU, it was still stuck at the bootloop.

If you can do a logcat of the boot-loop and pastebin it. We'll see what the problem is...
In terminal or command, write adb logcat or adb-windows logcat and then run it for the duration of the loop.

Yea the RUU upgrades your H-boot, Does just running the RUU achieve anything, you should just have a fresh clean non-rooted ROM load up on your device straight after running it?
Pop onto irc and visit the modaco chat room....we can have a talk about possible fixes
chat.freenode.net
#modaco
Feel free to look for me, and message me
just give the adb logcat comand while in bootloop and saying waiting for device and that's all
Have you tried restoring a good misc image? Just incase this could be related to that like other forms of brick are...
how can I restore the misc?

Although... with the mention of recovery taking an age, is that standard recovery, unrevoked or fake flash?
The above method uses the standard HTC recovery image, similar to fakeflash does. Worth a try *if* you can get it to work... May or may not resolve the issue though (I'm just guessing here) but could possibly in a weird kinda way help you to do a successful RUU restore using the PB image method...
Hi,
Just got a new Motorola Defy (came from HTC Legend)
I'm trying to install the CyanogenMod 7-thing from the thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
I'm following the guide, but all I end up with is a Motorola Logo on my boot screen (and a short blue and green light in the notification-bar)
The only way to get my phone back to life is to follow this great guide:
http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/593/how-to-unbrick-or-flash-a-defy-firmware.sbf/p1
It only works with the JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1-firmware - JRDNEM_U3_2.34.1 kills the phone totaly and there is no picture on the screen at all
If i try to use this guide/rom it works fine - but this is not Android 2.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10190621#post10190621
Any clues on WHY I can't get the Cyanogenmod on my Defy ?

The blue and green light is from 2nd boot init. If the blue light appears, press vol down -> goto custom recovery and wipe system, boot and data. Then Reboot and press vol up during reboot process to enter flash mode. with rsd you should flash a froyo first before you upgrade on CM7. I.e. uk 3.2.4.145 and then the nordic one.

Thanks for your quick reply
So, if I install this one:
2.) Flash 3.4.3-11 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite in bootloader mode
And then try to re-install the cyan-thing.
Will it then work?
Just to be sure - are you telling me that I should firmware upgrade it with both an UK FW and afterwards a nordic one.
Should theese be same version?
Why start with the UK-one?
Well, now I installed the:
2.) Flash 3.4.3-11 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite in bootloader mode
But now I'm not able to boot to recovery-mode - Not with System Recovery-app or with volume down thing
App-just boots the phone
Stock way just shows the ! and Andriod-guy - but I'm not able to press the buttom-corner to activate it
Try pressing - and +volume buttons at same time. Also i dont succeeded in installing cyanogen beta 3. So try installing a version before of cyanogen. It was the only thing that worked for me.,like i said on the other topic.
Hellgnomo>Didn't work for me
and if u hang volume up and then power on your defy? dont get the bootloader?
if u get bootloader u can install another sbf rom file.
i suggest a well tested rom/mod like pays rom

For me it worked fine. I just followed the steps on the topic and I had no problems. Now I'm facing some problems with the ROM itself, but it is normal due it is under development.
BTW, thanks and congrats to Quarx, great job!

Nope, not able to get in to the bootloader by pressing the Vol+ key
It worked fine before adding the new FW.
I would suggest flashing the Nordic 2.2.2 ROM as it is has the kernel that quarx's cm7 is based on (available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537), root, install the 2nd init bootmenu, backup ur data, wipe data/factory reset from bootmenu (accessed by pressing vol down when the blue light flashes on booting up), apply cm7, press down when the blue LED flashes and select 2nd init boot in the boot menu, and bam your should be good

Not with System Recovery, not with Vol+ ect.
Any clues?
But, the good thing is that after applying the Nordic-thing, my phone speaks danish

Hmm, will try that later on.
Just a short Q - if I instal the CyanogoenMid 7 - will my launguage then still be Danish or will it flip back to UK again?
im not sure, i think most likely you will lose it, as CM7 only uses the kernel and changes most of the other stuff?
I would try other roms b4 doing cm7 as I found cm7 quite a bit more difficult and troublesome to get installed than other roms.
That said it is the best!
Just install 2ndInt app and practice getting your phone into recovery with your stock sbf loaded... its a bit of a skill. good luck.

Hey,
I have a very similar problem to the OP's, but I can't post on teh dev section yet to ask for help there.... Can anyone here help me out please??
I installed the Clockwork modification for Defy as it seemed to be the way to install CM7 described on the CM7 post in the dev section...
I wiped everything, system and cache, and then tried to install the CM7.zip file several times to no avail.
I had bricked my phone and then solved the situation with the Nordic Firmware from this thread.
It was easy to root and everything works swell, but I just can't install CM7 with this clockwork mod I am using, and trying to install CM7 is the reason I bricked in the first place.
Is this CM7 impossible to install through CWM and I have to absolutelly use 2nd Init?
Does this version of 2nd Init solve the problem or do I need another one? I can't access market now because I still got to fix the 3G and stuff (Brazil phone and lost reception when flashing euro ROMs).
Thanks, hope someone can help me out and shed some light, I have been all weekend reading these forums trying to find a way but nothing works...
Cheers,
Andrew
yeah 2nd init will solve your problem, dont install clockwork, as 2nd init has all the features of clockwork as well as the 2nd init boot etc

Nevermind, I installed the 2nd Init and went from there, then it worked.
It was on the thread name of CGM7 that it was for 2nd Init but as a newbie I never realized!
Maybe it should be more like specified that it has to be with 2nd Init and not Clockwork or Modified CWM for Defy, so that ignorant people like me don't go through the same way and lose so much time on it.
I'll ask the OP of that thread to put some sign there, I mean, it's a great guide, I just didn't know it was for 2nd Init...
Cheers,
Andrew
I've had my desire rooted for over a year now. The other day i managed to S-off with the hope of flashing clockworkmod recovery 3. I followed the instructions as posted on this site, which didnt work for me.
My problem is that the phone will not go into recovery mode, i can get to hboot. When it does the checks it says no image....
I have tried using android flasher to install another recovery but this hasnt worked either.
Any suggestions....
you may have look looking at my thread, from an hour or two ago. Looks like almost the same problem. After a hard reset (voulume up and down + power), and then pulling my battery(?) I was able to get to the bootloader screen, go to recovery and it actually give me options to restore from last backup. I dunno anything else really and would hate to lead you astray. Wish you the best.
i meant you may have *luck*
Also, when searching endlessly for my answer, one thread suggested docking sd to computer and downloading boot image to it. I had mine though, perhaps it would work for you. I would advise attempting to find the thread yourself as I am sure there was more explicit step(s) to take.
Hello xda developers
I have sadly bricked my HTC Desire, this happend about 2 weeks ago where i tryed to update my HTC Desire to the newest Cryonmod.
It downloaded the update like normal and rebooted, but something went wrong i just showed the phone with an exclamation mark, and now when i turn the phone on will i just get the phone with an exclamation mark.
I am able to enter Fast Boot:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.10.05.23

I am not sure about the carrier, but it was bought by TDC i Denmark 2010.
Is there a way i can recover my phone? to make it harder is the only device i have that can read/write on a SD card my phone, so i need to transfere the new rom over the usb in some way.
First an advice: Never use rom manager again, it's horrible and causes many (heavy) problems.
Now to your problem:
Use the search, here many threads of guys who also had this problem.
Well i suppose the screen with the exclamation mark also have a triangle. in that case just hold down volume-up and press power, when that screen is showing. Then it will enter a stock recovery menu, where you use volume buttons and power to flash update.zip, and you will be back into clockwork mod recovery.
From here you can mount the sd-card and transfer a working rom-file in order to flash it.
And no there is nothing wrong in using rommanager.
Also if you want further help in danish(guessing you are danish since you bought it from TDC denmark) pm me i'm quite experienced doing this.

Well as you stated yourself, similar problems have been resolved several times over, the only problem is for people to understand the solutions. This is what i have already tried to help OP do in my previous post(by actually explaining what to do). I only offered him additional help in his native language as well, and it'll not be relevant for most people(who aren't danish). So no it's not senseless.
Also both your posts have been quite irrelevant to the topic, so you are not the one to correct me...
edit: also that is why i like helping in pm's as there is noone filling the thread with empty useless comments like go search...

Hello guys im very new to Android and i want to ask something.
Maybe its a noob question but what i did it.
I S Off my Wildfire S and i Permanently ROOT it this is all i done till now.
I never put some recovery things etc.
So today i saw something that i want to install on my device but i need to put 1st my device in recovery mode and install it then.
So when i went to recovery mode 1st for few seconds its show me a black screen with device and green arrows like all is normal and after a second showing me BIG RED TRIANGLE like something is wrong so what i think is
I dont have a recovery?!
I mean do i need to put it by myself?! this is why im not able to boot in recovery?
And if im right can someone provide me i mean show me where to look for this TUT what recovery to flash and how im sure there already have a quide and etc.
If someone can point me out i want to understand more about this devices what this recovery doing exactly i guess its recover something and maybe i can do backup etc.
Thank you in advance
I have the same issue. I used the instructions and SW at htcdev to unlock the bootloader, which worked fine. Went to try recovery and had the same issue as above. Had to take out the battery to get the phone back.
Ideas?
