AP News Widget - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Does anyone have a .apk of the AP news widget that came stock with this phone?
After rooting/flashing Midnight ROM, that is something that I really miss!
Thanks so much!

thank you; for some reason, I didn't see that when I looked!
Although I think the one that came stock on the phone is a bit different...

I pulled this off my phone, you can check if it will work for you

thanks for posting this, but it didn't work..might be because I am not using tw launcher but adw instead..

No it works with other launchers

weird; it won't install when I try to install it..
running midnight 2.1 Rom.

At the risk of stating the extremely obvious did you try pasting it directly to system/app?

yes, sir, I did just that...I will reboot and try again though, just in case!

yeah give them a try, they look really good
it seems whatever CM7 version mods he has on his website are using the old update method, so wont work with CMR3. and pushing the framework-res.apk manually gives a boot loop, so hmm. ill have to contact him and see whats up...
You just have to use amend2edify I think that's what its called there is a script floating around that makes things work in 3.0

thanks for the tip. i also found out that the CM7 versions on his website arent for the DInc. the folders within the framework-res.apk all have "-v4" tacked on the end. example: they are named "drawable-res-v4" instead of what the DInc CM7 has "drawable-res." and you cant just rename it because then the XMLs wont link to the files properly. and i dont know how to compile those so, ill have to see what i can figure out... thanks tho.

When you did this, did the Skin even show up for you to choose when you restarted? Another person was telling me they had that problem.
I'm running the RMK ROM debloated if that helps.
No did not show up. I gave it same permissions as wood.apk with root explorer.
Edit....I also am running that rom

I just tried this on my phone, it seems to work as well. I just extracted the images from the drawable.* folders and replaced the ones inside of the Blackboard.apk (Renaming it didnt show up. Had to leave it the same name. I'm not exactly sure how to sign a skin and edit the rigth xml files yet lol)
DL this file, use root explorer to place in /system/app and give same permission, restart and then select it. The preview still shows Blackboard, but the skin is WarmZ
I think that should do it. deleted it twice and set it back in the /system/app and it works. Hit the thanks if so
EDIT: If I need to give thanks, thanks to Incubus from the DInc community for this skin. It's his work

Well, I tried to come as close as possible to the ICS dialer and this is what I came up with.

Yea unfortunately it doesn't work w/ Calk's ROM, it just removes both apps , tried both flashing it and manually pushing it via Root Explorer....
I tried pushing these with rootexplorer. After pushing, they don't show up in the app drawer and I got FC with the contact storage and messaging after that. I tried pushing my backed up phone app and contact app and they both were still missing. Only after pushing the other ICS contact apk was I able to get both my phone and contacts back. Something is wrong with both of your APKs. I'm running stock deodexed no-ciq

[Theme] Alternative Conversation Skins [V1.2]

Hey guys, I'm a relative from the AT&T LGOG community.
I made a small (amateurish) theme for the mms.apk for my phone and wanted to try and port it to the sprint variant.
I used the LGUSMms.apk from a deodexed ZV9 stock ROM (posted by b-reezy HERE).
I do not have the Sprint LGOG and therefor have not been able to test this.
Some great users have tested and reported it works. Thanks guys.
LINK to original AT&T thread.
I have spent the last 2 days re-theming the conversation skins for the stock LGUSMms.apk.
I was inspired by whiteguypl's theme HERE.
This has his dark holo theme included. (Has the same little issue where the text color of links that people send you is the same as the background color).
(If you have an issue with this whiteguypl, please let me know).
I have included screenshots for all the themes.
I know they are a little rough, I am still brand new to themeing.
This was some pretty tough work (mostly because I had to learn a lot and made a few mistakes in the process).
Usual Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for any harm done to your device from flashing this.
I have flashed it fine on my phone without issues but cannot promise the same for you.
This replaces the LGUSMms.apk from /system/app/, so I strongly recommend either a system backup in recovery or at least making a copy of your LGUSMms.apk before installation.
Install via recovery.

Are you on a deodexed rom?
If not, maybe try renaming /system/app/LGUSMms.odex to LGUSMms.odex.bak (I'm assuming this is the name of it).
Then reboot.
I had a user say that that worked for another mod on a stock odexed rom.

Right, if you are deodexed there shouldn't be a .odex file, so there shouldn't have been anything to rename (if you renamed the .apk then the system won't see the app anymore, you'll want to change it back).
Did you try changing the conversation skin at all? Maybe one just didn't work (my guess it would be the blue striped background, the image names were different).
Can you try copying the THIS file (just the .apk in the .zip, maybe the .zip didn't flash right) to /system/app and making sure permissions are set to -rw-r--r--.
You'll have to reboot every time you change an app in there.
Thanks, and sorry it didn't work like it should have at first, I appreciate the help.

Great!
By copying the .apk or something else?
If so, maybe the .zip was messed up.
I'm thinking maybe the script is not mounting the partition correctly due to differences between the AT&T and Sprint versions.

And I was hoping to do more, but don't know when (see above) and was also hoping to fix the text color issues. I have been looking around in the .xmls and think I may have found the link colors, but I have yet to find out where the colors are set for individual skins (ie. the green "nature" theme has blue text in it because the original paper skin had blue text in it, I haven't been able to find where that is set).
Just wanted to give you an update, changed ROM's and flashed V1.2 and it worked perfect.

Right, there's a bit of the top showing though, and I can still open the app.
Except for the one in the middle, because the page indicator is right there.

Well, I'm a noob at decompiling.
So what I did was change the extension from framework-res.apk to .zip, and extract it.
In the /res/ folder there is no /values folder.
I've been searching for a bools.xml folder, but no luck.
Is this something that will only show by decompiling?
Or is the GN2 framework diferent from the GS3 one?
TIA
That would work to edit images. You need to use apktool (search it ) to decompile the file before you can edit those values. I will be home in about an hour if you can find somewhere to upload it i can take a look. However i believe if you look up apktool it will be pretty easy to do yourself. Just dont forgot to make a backup in case something goes off

Thanks for all your trouble.
However, I got the file on your first link, renamed it to framework-res.apk, and copied it to system/framework.
As I started to get a lot of force closes, I did a reboot.
This resulted in an endless boot loop, which forced me to pull my battery, get into recovery, and restore my system.
So back to the drawing board, I guess.

Funny I'm just headed out to work. The first post has a zip to install screen rotating. The second post is your unmodified original framework so when you try the modified again. if it does not work, you can replace with the original file from the second post instead of having to wait through a full reset
That does seem odd. Maybe it's the flashable file. It was for my gs3. I've replaced them with the update scripts from a Galaxy note 2 package. They are the same download links as before. I verified that it is the modified file there. Was there any error? Did you verify that it actually copied the file? Easiest to tell by looking at the date it was modified. Its really not that great of a mod anyway. The constant rotation gets annoying and this method doesn't give a toggle. Still try the new zips and see if that makes the difference

Well, I flashed the ScreenRotation.Zip, and while nothing wrong happened, nothing happened at all! Everything is just normal, no screen rotation.
Bummer, huh?
